Vs. Albright College – Won 5-2

Sophomore pitcher Randy Woolley earned a 5-2 win in the second game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader over Albright College to finish the year at 3-3. The win completed the Greyhounds season with a record of 14-20. Woolley allowed three hits and two walks while striking out three batters in the game. The Greyhounds trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning of game two before scoring five runs to win the game. Sophomore outfielder Michael Abbate drove in the first run in the fifth inning with a bases loaded walk before senior second baseman Jarrett Hughes had a two-run single to put the Greyhounds in the lead. Abbate drove in Moravian’s other two runs with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Moravian had just four hits in the game with two coming off Hughes’ bat.

Vs. Albright College – Lost 5-2

In the first game of the team’s final Commonwealth Conference doubleheader of the 2000 season against Albright College, the Greyhounds fell behind 4-1 after two innings and were unable to get back in the game, falling by the final of 5-2. Senior designated hitter Joe Pochron was 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles, a RBI and a run scored while sophomore outfielder Curtis Hoff was 1-for-2 with a double. Senior pitcher Matt Seitzinger went the distance on the mound, giving up six hits, seven walks and hitting two batters while striking out two. Seitzinger finished the season with a 4-3 record.

Vs. Allentown College – Lost 8-0

The Greyhounds managed just three hits off of Allentown’s pitching in a 8-0 loss in the team’s final non-conference game of the year. Moravian’s hits included a double by junior shortstop Mike Gill and singles by junior pitcher/designated hitter Joe Pochron and sophomore third baseman Bill Quinn. Pochron pitched eight innings in the game and allowed 11 hits, four runs and three walks while striking out seven.

Vs. Muhlenberg College – Canceled

Moravian’s game with rival Muhlenberg College has been canceled due to Muhlenberg’s Centennial Conference schedule.

Vs. Wilkes University – Lost 13-3

The Wilkes University Colonels scored all 13 of their runs in the top of the sixth inning and senior Nate Lipton tossed eight strong innings as the Colonels defeated host Moravian College, 13-3, in a Middle Atlantic Conference baseball game Monday. The first six runs of the inning were charged to Moravian sophomore Randy Woolley and the other seven were charged to freshman Jerry Coveney. Moravian (13-18) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a triple by junior Joe Pochron and a sacrifice fly by freshman Bob Frey. The Greyhounds made their lead 2-0 in the fifth inning on a triple by junior catcher Dustin Levy and a double by sophomore outfielder Michael Abbate. Moravian added a run in the eighth inning on a singles by senior Jarrett Hughes and freshman Aaron Buckner. Wilkes (20-12) had eight strong innings from Lipton, who allowed nine hits, three earned runs and three walks while striking out six. Moravian starter Matt Seitzinger pitched three innings and allowed just one hit.

Vs. Lebanon Valley College – Won 5-4

Junior shortstop Mike Gill hit his first collegiate homerun in the second game of a MAC Commonwealth Conference doubleheader to give the Greyhounds a 5-4 win over Lebanon Valley College and a sweep of the twinbill. Gill’s homerun in game two game was in the third inning with Moravian trailing 2-0. Gill hit the homer to right field with two outs to score freshman third baseman Jeff Meila, who had walked, and junior catcher Dustin Levy, who had been hit by a pitch. Lebanon Valley tied the game in the top of the fifth inning before senior second baseman Jarrett Hughes put Moravian ahead for good in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run double. Sophomore Randy Woolley pitched the final 5 1/3 innings for the win after reliving starter senior David Jelleme, who turned an ankle trying to back-up third base. Woolley had three strikeouts in his second win of the year.

Vs. Lebanon Valley College – Won 4-2

Senior pitcher Matt Seitzinger tossed a two-hitter in game one of a MAC Commonwealth Conference twinbill to give the Greyhounds a 4-2 win over Lebanon Valley College. Seitzinger had a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning, which tied the game, but he did not allow a hit after that to pick up his fourth win of the season. Seitzinger had one walk and one strikeout in the contest. Moravian took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of game on a Lebanon Valley fielder’s choice and error that allowed two runs to score. Sophomore outfielder Curtis Hoff had a RBI on the play. Senior second baseman Jarrett Hughes drove in what was the winning run in the fifth inning with a single that scored sophomore outfielder Michael Abbate. The Greyhounds added an insurance run in the sixth inning on a RBI single by freshman third baseman Jeff Meila that scored freshman first baseman Bob Frey. Frey had two hits and scored twice in the contest.

Vs. Muhlenberg College – Postponed to April 26th

The Moravian versus Muhlenberg College baseball game has been postponed a week until April 26th. The contest will still be played at Gillespie Field in Bethlehem and it will start at 3:00 p.m.

Vs. Drew University – Canceled

The second game of the Moravian-Drew twinbill was canceled when rain came in the third inning with Drew leading 1-0. The field was unplayable after the downpour and the game was called. The contest will not be replayed this season.

Vs. Drew University – Lost 4-3

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and scored a run in the seventh inning, but the team’s rally fell short as the Greyhounds lost to Drew University, 4-3, in Middle Atlantic Conference action. Senior outfielder Jarrett Hughes, junior pitcher Joe Pochron and freshman catcher Jeff Meila each had two hits in the game. Pochron added double while he and Hughes each drove in a run. Pochron yielded four runs but only one was earned in 4 2/3 innings. He also had four strikeouts.

At Susquehanna University – Lost 6-5

The Greyhounds gave up three homeruns and the Crusaders held off a Moravian rally in the seventh inning as Susquehanna won a 6-5 decision in the second game of a MAC Commonwealth Conference twinbill to earn a split. Senior outfielder Jarrett Hughes, junior outfielder Joe Pochron, sophomore third baseman Bill Quinn and freshman designated hitter Jeff Meila each had two hits in the game with Pochron driving in two runs. Senior David Jelleme suffered his second straight loss on the mound with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.

At Susquehanna University – Won 12-8

Freshman first baseman Bob Frey set the Moravian College single season homerun record while senior outfielder Jarrett Hughes broke the career hit record in the Greyhounds 12-8 victory over Susquehanna University in the first game of a MAC Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Selinsgrove Area High School. Frey, who was 3-for-5 in the game with two doubles, connected on his seventh homerun of the year to break Ed Barnett’s and Jud Frank’s record of six homers in a season. Frey had two RBIs in the game. Hughes was 3-for-4 in the contest lifting his career hit total to 124, surpassing Mike Folcher’s mark of 123. Hughes added a double, a RBI and four runs scored in the game. Junior outfielder Joe Pochron was 3-for-4 in the contest with a homerun, a double, two runs scored and four RBIs. Freshman third baseman Jeff Meila added three hits while sophomore designated hitter Bill Quinn had a pair of hits with a double. Senior Matt Seitzinger returned from an elbow injury to pick up the win on the mound with five strikeouts in six innings.

Vs. Delaware Valley – Lost 8-3

Despite freshman first baseman Bob Frey tying the school record for homeruns in a season with his sixth, the Greyhounds fell to Delaware Valley College, 8-3, in Middle Atlantic Conference action. Frey connected on a solo homerun, the first hit at Gillespie Field this season, in the sixth inning to cut the Aggies lead to 6-3 but that would be as close as the Greyhounds would get. Frey tied Ed Barnett, who hit six homers in 1985, and help Moravian build on its school record total for homeruns in a season, now 18. Sophomore third baseman Bill Quinn Had RBI double in the fourth inning and junior shortstop Mike Gill added a two-out RBI single in the fifth stanza. Junior catcher Dustin Levy had two singles in the game while sophomore pitcher Randy Woolley suffered the loss on the mound.

At Lehigh University – Canceled

The Greyhounds game against NCAA Division I Lehigh University was canceled due to a Lehigh doubleheader being rescheduled to Monday due to Sunday’s snowfall. The game will likely not be rescheduled.

Vs. Widener University – Lost 7-1

In game two of a MAC Commonwealth Conference twinbill, Widener jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning in a 7-1 win over Moravian. The Pioneers had just eight hits in the contest but worked Moravian pitcher junior Joe Pochron for ten walks in the game. Widener’s Bill Wright, kept Moravian scoreless and without a hit until the fifth inning. Sophomore outfielder Michael Abbate hit a one-out single to score junior catcher Dustin Levy, who had broken up Wright’s no-hitter with one out.

Vs. Widener University – Lost 8-1

Moravian scored its run in the first inning but had allowed two runs in the first inning and gave up six other runs in a 8-1 loss to Widener University in a MAC Commonwealth Conference. Junior shortstop Mike Gill walked with one out and stole second and third base. Gill scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Jarrett Hughes to give the Greyhounds their only run of the game. Senior pitcher David Jelleme lost his first game of the year on the mound.

At Lafayette College – Won 15-14

The Greyhounds defeated NCAA Division I Lafayette College by a final of 15-14, holding off a ninth inning rally by the Leopards for the win. The 29 combined runs in the victory at Lafayette was the third time Moravian and its opponents have combined for over 25 runs in a game this season. Freshman first baseman Bob Frey connected on a pair of two-run homeruns in the game, the second two-homerun contest of his career. Sophomore third baseman Bill Quinn had a homerun and a double in the game. Quinn had a total of four hits as did sophomore outfielder Michael Abbate. Abbate also scored three runs, had two RBIs and stole a pair of bases. Junior shortstop Mike Gill had two hits in the game as did freshman second baseman Paul Block and freshman catcher Jeff Meila. Freshman Jerry Coveney earned his first collegiate win on the mound.

At University of Scranton – Won 7-6

Sophomore Eric Lee earned his second win of the season in a complete game in the second contest of a Middle Atlantic Conference doubleheader against the University of Scranton at Lackawanna County Stadium. Lee had five strikeouts but allowed eight walks in the game. Moravian had just six hits in the game but scored seven runs. Freshman infielder Charlie Bowden had two of Moravian’s hits including an inside-the-park homerun. Freshman catcher Tony Mack also had two hits in the game.

At University of Scranton – Lost 6-5 (8 innings)

Playing at the home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, the Greyhounds split a Middle Atlantic Conference doubleheader, losing the first game, 6-5, in eight innings. Junior Joe Pochron pitched seven innings in the game and left with the score tied at 5-5. He had a career high ten strikeouts in the game and allowed just three walks. Freshman Jerry Coveney suffered the loss on the mound. Sophomore designated hitter Curtis Hoff had two hits in the game as the Greyhounds scored all five runs in the second inning.

At Juniata College – Won 4-3

Senior pitcher David Jelleme ran his record to 3-0 with a complete game victory in the second contest of a MAC Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Juniata College. Jelleme scattered six hits and allowed three runs but only one was earned in the 4-3 win. He also had one walk and one strikeout. The Greyhounds managed only four hits in the game with two by junior outfielder Joe Pochron including a triple. Pochron also had two RBIs while junior shortstop Mile Gill and sophomore third baseman Bill Quinn each had singles.

At Juniata College – Lost 8-2

In the first game of a MAC Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Juniata College, senior pitcher Matt Seitzinger was touched for three runs in the first inning before being replaced by sophomore pitcher Randy Woolley. The Greyhounds had just one hit in the 8-2 loss, a single by junior shortstop Mike Gill. Senior outfielder Jarrett Hughes and freshman first baseman Bob Frey drove in Moravian’s runs with sacrifice flies during the game.

At Alvernia College – Lost 14-13

Freshman first baseman Bob Frey connected on two solo homeruns but the Greyhounds lost a 13-7 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning to lose to Alvernia College, 14-13, in non-conference action. Junior outfielder Joe Pochron also connected on a solo homerun from Moravian and Pochron completed the game with two hits and four RBIs. Sophomore Curtis Hoff pitched five innings in the game and allowed six runs on three hits, five walks and a strikeout. At the plate, Hoff had two hits and a pair of RBIs. Moravian’s pitchers allowed nine walks in the game and the squad committed seven errors in the game.

At King’s College – Lost 18-15

Moravian spotted King’s College a 10-0 lead before getting on the board in the third inning in a 18-15 loss in Middle Atlantic Conference action. The Greyhounds closed the gap to 16-15 at the end of four and a half innings but the Monarchs responded with two more runs to seal the game. Senior Jarrett Hughes, freshman Paul Block and Bill Quinn each had two hits in the loss. Moravian used five pitchers in the game with freshman Jerry Coveney hurling three innings.

At King’s College – Lost 4-3

The Greyhounds dropped the first game of a Middle Atlantic Conference doubleheader to King’s College, 4-3. Junior Joe Pochron suffered the loss in the first game on the mound. Pochron, who had four walks and five strikeouts in the game, allowed four runs but only two were earned. The Greyhounds had six hits in the game with two by freshman Jeff Meila. Sophomore Bill Quinn hit a solo homerun for Moravian in the seventh inning.

Vs. Elizabethtown College – Won 3-2

Moravian also won the second game of the doubleheader with Elizabethtown College by the same final of 3-2. Senior pitcher David Jelleme started game two on the mound for Moravian and went 3 1/3 innings before sophomore Randy Woolley came in to finish off the game. Jelleme had a walk and two strikeouts while allowing four hits and one run. Woolley allowed five hits and one runs in his 3 2/3 innings. Senior Jarrett Hughes have two of the Greyhounds four hits in the second game including a double as Moravian posted singles runs in the first three innings to win 3-2. Freshman Bob Frey knocked in a run with a single as did junior Mike Gill. Junior Joe Pochron had a RBI on a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

Vs. Elizabethtown College – Won 3-2 (10 inn.)

The Greyhounds won the first game of a MAC Commonwealth Conference against Elizabethtown College, 3-2, in the bottom of the tenth inning on a one-out double by freshman Bob Frey that scored freshman Blake Martin, a pinch runner, from first base. Moravian scored its first two runs of the game on a two-RBI single by senior Jarrett Hughes, who was playing in his first game of the season after an injury. Sophomore centerfielder Michael Abbate was three-for-three in the game while Frey added three hits and Hughes had two. Senior Matt Seitzinger hurled seven innings in the contest and allowed just three hits and two walks with one strikeout. Senior David Jelleme pitched the final three innings to earn the victory and had three walks and two strikeouts while allowing one base hit.

Vs. Ursinus College – Canceled

Moravian's game with Ursinus College has been canceled due to poor field conditions after Tuesday's rain. The game will not be made up because neither team has an available date.

At Messiah College – Lost 2-0

Moravian lost the second game of a doubleheader to Messiah College, 2-0, in MAC Commonwealth Conference action. The Greyhounds had just six hits in the contest including two by junior Joe Pochron. Sophomore Randy Woolley tossed five innings in the game with no walks and one strikeout and senior David Jelleme pitched a scoreless inning in relief during the loss.

At Messiah College – Lost 2-0

Senior Matt Seitzinger allowed just six hits and two runs, but only one was earned, while striking out three and allowing no walks but it wasn’t enough as Moravian fell to Messiah College, 2-0, in the Greyhounds opening MAC Commonwealth Conference game of the season. Moravian was limited to just five hits in the game including doubles by junior Joe Pochron and sophomore Michael Abbate.

Vs. Kutztown University – Lost 7-1

Freshman second baseman Luke Bricker had a pair of singles as Moravian was limited to just seven hits in a 7-1 loss to NCAA Division II Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in the Greyhounds home opener. Sophomore outfielder Michael Abbate had a hit and scored Moravian’s lone run on a passed ball. The Greyhounds used six pitchers as scheduled

At Haverford College – Lost 6-3

Freshman first baseman Matt Genna connected on a two-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap a four-run rally that lifted the Haverford College Fords baseball team to a 6-3 victory over Moravian College in non-conference action. Moravian took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-out solo homerun by junior outfielder Joe Pochron, his second of the season. Pochron had two hits in the game. Haverford responded with a run in the bottom of the first on a pair of Moravian errors. The Greyhounds retook the lead with a single run in the fourth inning on a RBI single by sophomore outfielder Curtis Hoff. Moravian extended the lead to 3-1 in the top of the sixth inning on a solo homerun by freshman designated hitter Bob Frey. Hoff and Frey each had two hits in the game while freshman first baseman Jeff Meila had three hits. The Fords scored a run in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 3-2 before taking the lead with the four runs in the seventh inning. Moravian freshman Ryan Boyle suffered the loss on the mound while junior Jeff Lezinski earned the victory for Haverford.

Vs. Juniata College at Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic – Won 15-4

The Greyhounds closed out their trip to the Eastern Mennonite University Sarasota Spring Classic with a 15-4 victory over MAC Commonwealth Conference rival Juniata College. Juniata won the tournament while Moravian placed second and had three players named to the All-Tournament Team, senior Matt Seitzinger, junior Joe Pochron and freshman Jeff Meila. Seitzinger hurled his second complete game of the tournament in the win over Juniata, allowing eight hits and two walks while striking out one. Pochron was two-for-four in the game with two RBIs and a double while Meila’s lone hit in the game was a two-run homerun. Sophomore outfielder Michael Abbate was three-for-three in the game with three runs scored and four RBIs. Abbate led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo homerun. Freshman Paul Block and Charlie Bowden each went two-for-three with a pair of runs scored and a RBI in the game.

Vs. Kenyon College (OH) at Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic – Lost 6-3

Junior shortstop Mike Gill and junior pitcher/designated hitter Joe Pochron each had two hits in the game and freshman outfielder Jeff Meila added a double and a RBI but it wasn’t enough as Moravian fell to Kenyon College (OH) at the Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic. Pochron started the game on the mound for Moravian but it was sophomore Randy Woolley who took the loss despite striking out four batters in two innings.

Vs. Eastern Mennonite University (VA) at Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic – Won 8-6

Junior outfielder Joe Pochron was a perfect four-for-four and drove in seven of Moravian’s eight runs in a 8-6 win over host Eastern Mennonite University (VA) at the Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic. Pochron had a homerun and a pair of doubles among his four hits. Sophomore outfielder Michael Abbate and junior shortstop Mike Gill each had two hits and scored two runs in the game. Gill and freshman outfielder Jeff Meila also contributed doubles in the win. Freshman pitcher Ryan Boyle worked the final two innings of the game with three strikeouts for the win.

Vs. Bluffton College (OH) at Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic – Won 14-3

Sophomore outfielder Curtis Hoff had three hits including a homerun and added three RBIs and four runs scored to lead Moravian to a 14-3 victory over Bluffton College (OH) at the Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic. The Greyhounds scored their 14 runs on just 11 hits as Bluffton’s two pitchers issued 11 walks in the game. Junior catcher Dustin Levy had a pair of doubles for Moravian and he also drove in two runs. Junior outfielder Joe Pochron, freshman first baseman Jeff Meila and junior third baseman Bill Quinn each also had two RBIs in the game. Senior pitcher David Jelleme earned the win for Moravian after relieving sophomore Eric Lee in the first inning with Moravian trailing, 3-0.

Vs. Eastern Mennonite University (VA) at Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic – Lost 14-3

The Greyhounds were limited to just three hits in the game including a two-run triple by junior outfielder Joe Pochron as Moravian had its season record evened at 2-2 with a 14-3 loss to host Eastern Mennonite University (VA) at the Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic. Junior catcher Dustin Levy and freshman first baseman Bob Frey also had hits for the ‘Hounds. Freshman Ed McAviney suffered the loss on the mound by allowing nine runs in two innings of work.

Vs. Bluffton College (OH) at Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic – Won 7-6

Sophomore outfielder Michael Abbate scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Greyhounds a 7-6 victory over Bluffton College at the Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic. Freshman Jeff Meila led Moravian in the game with three hits including a three-run homerun in the third inning. Junior shortstop Mike Gill added two hits in the game. Sophomore pitchers Randy Woolley and Eric Lee combined for the win on the mound.

Vs. Kenyon College (OH) at Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic – Won 1-0

Senior pitcher Matt Seitzinger tossed a four-hit shutout to led Moravian to its first win of the season, a 1-0 victory over Kenyon College (OH) at the Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic. Seitzinger went the distance allowing just one walk and striking out five. Freshman first baseman Bob Frey drove in the only run of the game with a RBI single in the fourth inning to score senior outfielder Joe Pochron. Frey knocked out two of Moravian’s four hits in the contest.

Vs. Bluffton College (OH) at Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic – Lost 5-4

Sophomore outfielder Curtis Hoff and freshman first baseman Jeff Melia each hit solo homeruns in Moravian’s first game of the 2000 season but it wasn’t enough as the Greyhounds allowed four unearned runs in a 5-4 loss to Bluffton College (OH) in the Eastern Mennonite Sarasota Spring Classic. Hoff had two of Moravian’s six hits in the game. Junior Joe Pochron started the game on the mound for the Greyhounds and allowed four runs, one earned on seven hits, four walks and three strikeouts. Senior Dave Jelleme pitched the final two innings of the contest.
