Moravian, the third seed, was knocked out of the 2003 Commonwealth Conference Tournament by a 4-3, ten-inning loss to top seeded Elizabethtown College at Owls Field in West Lawn. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning on a an RBI-single by freshman third baseman Mike Sofka, which scored junior outfielder Ethan Ordog, who had reached base after being hit by a pitch. The Blue Jays tied the game with a single run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI-triple Adam Rebert. Moravian took a 3-1 lead in the top of the tenth inning when Sofka hit another RBI-single, this time scoring sophomore pitcher Chris Clancy, who had been hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Junior outfielder Greg Peters, who walked, scored on a balk. However, Elizabethtown scored three times in the bottom of the tenth for the victory with the final runs coming off a Moravian error in the outfield. The Greyhounds had just four hits in the game, two singles by Sofka, a double by senior first baseman Bob Frey and a single by senior shortstop Luke Bricker. Clancy went the distance on the mound, allowing four runs, only three earned, on 11 hits and three walks while fanning eight.

At Albright College in 2003 Commonwealth Conference Tournament - Lost 12-6  Boxscore

Moravian, making its first appearance in the postseason since 1992, dropped a 12-6 decision to Albright College in a first round game of the 2003 Commonwealth Conference Tournament. The second seeded Lions, who have defeated Moravian in four consecutive games, will play fourth seed Messiah College, a 4-2 winner over top seeded Elizabethtown College in Wednesday’s other first round game, on Friday, May 2nd in the winners bracket game at Owls Field in West Lawn beginning at 3:00 p.m. The Greyhounds, who have lost six straight games, will play the Blue Jays at 11:00 a.m. Moravian took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Junior outfielder Greg Peters drew a walk with two outs and moved to second on a wild pitch. Peters would score on a single to left center field by junior outfielder Ethan Ordog. Albright took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Dan Rist and an RBI-single by sophomore Patrick Bergmaier off Moravian staring pitcher Brett Porter. The Greyhounds would take a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Freshman third baseman Mike Sofka led off the inning with a solo home run to left field, his second dinger of the year. Junior second baseman Matthew Turtell hit a two-RBI single to score freshman catcher Adam White, who had singled, and senior shortstop Luke Bricker, who had reached on an error. Sophomore outfielder Chris Clancy drove in Turtell with an infield grounder.
The Lions would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning on a three-run home run to right centerfield by senior Michael Tinney. Moravian got the lead back in the top of the sixth inning when Ordog led off with a single. Sophomore Adam Goetz pinch ran for Ordog and scored on an error on a ball hit by Bricker. In Albright’s seventh inning, Bergmaier drove in the first run with an RBI-single, which scored freshman Nate Ottaviani, who had reached on a two-out error by the Greyhounds. Slivinski deposited a 1-2 pitch over the right field fence. Bricker allowed all five runs in the inning as Moravian’s third pitcher of the contest. The Lions, who were making their first postseason appearance since 1998, added a run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI-single by sophomore Justin Holland, off of Moravian senior Bob Frey, the Greyhounds’ fourth pitcher of the game. Moravian had eight hits in the contest with Ordog and Turtell each collecting two hits. Porter allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk in 4 1/3 innings while fanning four. Sophomore Andrew Wach tossed 1 2/3 innings, allowing a run on three hits and a walk. Bricker was touched for five unearned runs on two hits with one strikeout. Frey allowed a run on a hit and a walk.

The Greyhounds dropped the second game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader versus Albright College, 7-4. The loss costs Moravian a potential home game in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament, which begins on Wednesday. Albright took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and extended their lead to 3-0 in the second inning. Moravian cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the second on an RBI-triple to center field by sophomore outfielder Chris Clancy and an RBI-ground rule double to left field by junior outfielder Ethan Ordog. The Greyhounds tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on a triple by senior first baseman Bob Frey and an RBI-ground out by junior pitcher Greg Peters. Albright scored three times in the top of the fourth inning for a 6-3 lead before Moravian scored a run in the bottom of the fifth on a triple by Peters that scored junior second baseman Matthew Turtell. Albright added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning for the 7-4 final. Moravian had five hits in the game with four going for extra bases. Peters went the distance on the mound for Moravian, falling to 1-4 on the year. He allowed seven runs, only two were earned, on ten hits and five walks while striking out four batters.

Moravian suffered its fourth straight loss in Commonwealth Conference action, falling to Albright College, 12-1 in the first game of a conference doubleheader. The victory for the Lions, qualified the team for the Commonwealth Tournament. Albright jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and the Lions added seven runs in the fifth inning for a 10-0 lead. Albright scored twice in the top of the seventh inning for a 12-0 advantage before Moravian scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run to left field by junior outfielder Greg Peters. The Greyhounds had just five hits in the game with Peters collecting two of them, including a double. Sophomore pitcher Chris Clancy fell to 4-4 on the year for Moravian. He allowed ten runs on 11 hits and four walks in five innings of work. Clancy did strike out two batters in the game. Sophomore Daniel Wright pitched the final two innings of the game, allowing two runs on two hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Moravian has postponed its final Commonwealth Conference home doubleheader of the season versus Albright College for one day until Sunday, April 27th at 12:00 p.m. due to inclement weather and poor field conditions.

At Albright College - Lost 21-13   Boxscore

Moravian lost the first game of a three-game Commonwealth Conference series against Albright College, 21-13, in Reading. Despite the loss, the Greyhounds are still tied for first place in the Commonwealth and need just one victory to clinch a home playoff game. Moravian had a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning while senior shortstop Luke Bricker scored on an RBI-single by senior third baseman/catcher Jeff Meila but the Lions tied the game in the bottom of the first. The Greyhounds pushed seven runs across the plate in the top of the third inning for an 8-1 lead. Junior second baseman Matthew Turtell led of the third with a single and scored on an RBI-single senior first baseman Bob Frey. The RBI was Frey's 99th in his career, putting him one RBI shy of becoming the first player in school history with 100 career RBIs. Junior outfielder Ethan Ordog reached on an Albright error and was credited with an RBI when Frey scored. Junior Michael Young drove in the next two runs with a single up the middle. The Greyhounds next two runs scored on a double by Bricker, and he scored the final run of the inning an RBI-single by Turtell, his second hit of the inning. Albright again responded, this time with nine runs in the bottom of the third to take 10-8 lead. Moravian tied the game at 10-10 with a pair of tallies in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Meila to score Bricker and an RBI-single by sophomore outfielder Chris Clancy to score Turtell. However, Albright scored five times in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead for good. Moravian would score its final three runs in the top of the eighth inning. Clancy drove in the first run with an RBI single and the other two runs scored on an error on a ball hit by junior outfielder Greg Peters. Albright would add single runs in the sixth and eighth innings and four tallies in the seventh inning. The Greyhounds finished the game with 24 hits led by a 5-for-7 performance by Turtell. Bricker, Frey and Clancy were each 4-for-6 in the game while Meila went 3-for-5. Freshman designated hitter Bryan Wolf also picked up two hits in the game. Moravian sophomore Stephen Tomaszewski started on the mound for Moravian and tossed just 2 2/3 innings, allowing ten runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out three batters. Junior hurler Brett Porter suffered the loss for the Greyhounds, pitching 4 1/3 innings. Porter gave up ten runs, only seven were earned, on 11 hits and a walk while fanning one. Sophomore Adam Goetz pitched the final inning of the contest, allowing one run on one hit.

The Greyhounds dropped the second game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Elizabethtown College, 10-2, to fall into a first place tie with the Blue Jays in the conference standings. Elizabethtown now has the tiebreaker over Moravian for the top seed in the upcoming Commonwealth Conference Playoffs. Moravian trailed 3-0 in the game before scoring two runs in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run home run to left field by senior first baseman Bob Frey. The homer was Frey's third of the season and the 20th of his Moravian career. The home run also gave Frey a total of 200 career total bases, making him the first player in school history to reach 200 total bases. Frey also owns the school records for home runs and RBIs and the two RBIs in the game moved Frey within two RBIs of becoming the first player in Moravian history with 100 RBIs in a career. Elizabethtown would put the game away with five runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh inning. Moravian had just three hits in the game with senior designated hitter Jeff Meila and freshman third baseman Andrew Wayne each collecting singles in the fourth inning in addition to Frey's home run. Junior Greg Peters suffered the loss for Moravian on the mound, allowing eight runs, only six earned, on eight hits and four walks in five innings. Peters, who falls to 1-3 on the year, also had one strikeout. Frey tossed the final inning of the game, allowed two runs on two hits and a walk.

The Greyhounds clinched the program's first postseason appearance since the 1992 season with a 6-5 victory over Lebanon Valley College in the second game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader. With the sweep of the doubleheader, Moravian became the first team in the conference to clinch a playoff berth this season, and the Greyhounds will not be lower than the third seed in the playoffs. Moravian took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on an RBI-single by sophomore outfielder Chris Clancy to score senior first baseman Bob Frey and a double steal play that had freshman third baseman Mike Sofka steal home. The Flying Dutchmen cut Moravian's lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning but the Greyhounds got a single run in the fourth inning as Clancy scored on another double steal play. Moravian extended its lead to 5-2 with two runs in the top of the fifth inning on a two-run home run to left field by senior shortstop Luke Bricker. Lebanon Valley would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after scoring four runs off Moravian starting pitcher junior Brett Porter. The Greyhounds would push the winning run across the plate in the top of the seventh inning when senior catcher Jeff Meila hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score sophomore outfielder/infielder Adam Goetz. Moravian finished the game with just five hits in the game including two by Sofka. The Greyhounds moved into sole possession of first place in the Commonwealth Conference with a 9-6 victory over Elizabethtown College in the first game of the weekend three-game series. Moravian jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when senior shortstop Luke Bricker led off the inning with a single and scored on the second of five Elizabethtown errors in the game. The Blue Jays tied the game for the first time with a run in the top of the third inning. The Greyhounds would take the lead back in the bottom of the third on a single to left field by sophomore outfielder Chris Clancy that scored junior second baseman Matthew Turtell. An error in the outfield on the play allowed senior first baseman Bob Frey to score as well, giving Moravian a 3-1 lead. Elizabethtown knotted the score at 3-3 in the top of the fourth by Moravian took lead right back with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bricker tripled down the right field line to score freshman third baseman Mike Sofka, who had singled, and Bricker scored on a double by Turtell. Moravian would build its lead to 6-3 with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI-single to left field by junior outfielder Greg Peters that scored Frey. Elizabethtown scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning and once in the top of the seventh to tie the score for a third time at 6-6. Moravian took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore Stephen Tomaszewski, who started on the mound for the Greyhounds before moving to first base and left field, came up for the first time in the game with one out and the bases loaded. Moravian remained in first place in the Commonwealth Conference with a ten-inning, 10-7 victory over Messiah College to close out the three-game series between the two schools. The Greyhounds were the visiting team on their home field because of games being rescheduled. Messiah took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Moravian tied the game in the top of the third inning on an a RBI-triple by junior second baseman Matthew Turtell, which scored senior shortstop Luke Bricker, who had reached on an error, and a sacrifice bunt by senior catcher Jeff Meila that scored Turtell. The Greyhounds took a 6-2 lead in top of the fourth inning with four runs. Bricker drove in the first two runs with a single. After scoring a run on a Messiah error, Meila singled to score Bricker. Messiah cut Moravian's lead to 6-3 with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning but the Greyhounds got the run back in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI-double by senior first baseman Bob Frey that scored Turtell. However, Messiah scored four times in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game at 7-7. Moravian would score three times in the top of the tenth inning for the victory. Bricker drove in the winning run with a bloop single down the left field line and Meila drove in the game's final two runs with a single to right field. Moravian had 11 hits in the game with Meila going 4-for-4 with four RBIs and Turtell going 3-for-5. Bricker and Frey each had two hits as ten of Moravian's 11 hits and all nine RBIs came from the top four spots in the line-up. Junior outfielder/pitcher Greg Peters pitched the final two innings for the Greyhounds to earn the victory. Peters allowed two runs on two hits with two strikeouts. Moravian has rescheduled its weekend three-game Commonwealth Conference series with Messiah College due to inclement weather and field conditions. The nine-inning single contest scheduled for Friday, April 11th at Messiah has been moved to Tuesday, April 15th and it will be played in Bethlehem instead of Grantham. The doubleheader for Saturday, April 12th will be played at Messiah instead of Moravian.

Moravian has had its Commonwealth Conference doubleheader with Lebanon Valley College postponed a third time due to poor field conditions and inclement weather. The two teams have rescheduled the twinbill for Monday, April 21st at 1:00 p.m. in Annville.

Vs. Susquehanna University - Lost 7-5  Boxscore

The Greyhounds dropped a 7-5 decision to Susquehanna University in a seven-inning make-up Commonwealth Conference game. Susquehanna had a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning but the Greyhounds would tie the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI-single by senior first baseman Bob Frey that scored junior second baseman Matthew Turtell. The Crusaders would build a 4-1 lead after three and a half innings before Moravian took its only lead in the game. The Greyhounds pushed across four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 5-4 lead. The first runs scored on a Susquehanna throwing error and the second scored on an RBI-single by freshman third baseman Mike Sofka. Senior outfielder Jeff Meila and junior outfielder Ethan Ordog each drew bases loaded walks to score Moravian's other runs. Susquehanna scored three unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning for the 7-5 victory. Moravian had six hits in the game with Frey collecting two of them. Sophomore Chris Clancy went the distance on the mound for Moravian, allowing seven runs, only four earned, on nine hits and two walks. The Greyhounds' non-conference game with the University of Scranton, originally scheduled for Sunday, April 6th has been postponed due to scheduling conflicts and rescheduling of conference games for both schools. No make-up date has been scheduled at this time.

Moravian has had its Commonwealth Conference doubleheader with Lebanon Valley College postponed until Monday, April 7th due to poor field conditions and inclement weather.

Moravian earned an 8-1 victory over Lebanon Valley College in the first game of a three-game Commonwealth Conference series. The Greyhounds scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning to give sophomore pitcher Stephen Tomaszewski all the offense he would need in the game. Moravian scored on three Lebanon Valley errors and sacrifice flies by juniors outfielder Greg Peters and second baseman Matthew Turtell. Tomaszewski tossed all nine innings for the complete game victory, and he allowed one run on seven hits and two walks while fanning nine. Moravian added a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run home run to right center by senior first baseman Bob Frey. The homer was Frey's second of the season and the 19th of his career. Senior catcher Jeff Meila had led off the third inning with a double to centerfield. Moravian added a single run in the bottom of the sixth inning fielder's choice by Turtell that scored freshman third baseman Mike Sofka and gave the Greyhounds a 6-0 lead. After the Flying Dutchmen scored their only run of the game in the top of the seventh, Moravian responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI-single by Sofka and a Lebanon Valley error, the Flying Dutchmen's eighth of the game. Moravian finished with nine hits in the game with Sofka, Turtell and senior shortstop Luke Bricker each collecting two hits.

The Greyhounds won the first game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader versus Susquehanna University, 4-2, when the game was called due to rain and poor field conditions in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and would extend their lead to 2-0 in the second inning. Moravian, which had a runner thrown out at home in the third inning and didn't have a hit until the fourth inning, scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning for the victory. Senior shortstop Luke Bricker led of the inning with a double to center field. Senior right fielder Jeff Meila drew a walk and was pinch run for by freshman Andrew Wayne. Senior first baseman Bob Frey followed with a triple down the right field line to score Bricker and Wayne and tie the score at 2-2. Junior outfielder Ethan Ordog drew a walk to put runners on the corners before freshman designated hitter Bryan Wolf tripled to center field to score Frey and Ordog. The umpires suspended the game for 30 minutes with a 3-2 count on Moravian's next batter, junior outfielder Greg Peters, before declaring the game over. Sophomore pitcher Chris Clancy improves to 3-1 on the season with the victory. Clancy allowed two runs, only one was earned, on five hits and three walks while striking out three.

Moravian opened its three-game Commonwealth Conference weekend series with Susquehanna University with a 14-8 victory over Crusaders. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a solo home run to left field by sophomore outfielder Chris Clancy to lead off the inning and an RBI-single to right center by freshman third baseman Mike Sofka that scored freshman designated hitter Bryan Wolf. Moravian would add a run in the third inning on a solo home run to left field by senior catcher Jeff Meila for a 3-0 lead. Susquehanna cut Moravian's lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning. The Greyhounds would get the two runs back in the top of the fourth on a RBI-double by Sofka, which scored junior outfielder Ethan Ordog, and a suicide squeeze bunt by junior second baseman Matthew Turtell that scored junior outfielder/pitcher Greg Peters. The Crusaders took their only lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when they scored four runs. Moravian would tie the game at 6-6 in the top of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Sofka that scored Ordog. The Greyhounds would take the lead for good with four runs in the top of the seventh inning. Wolf drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to score senior first baseman Bob Frey. Ordog hit an RBI-single to left center to score Clancy, and he would score on an RBI-single to center field by Sofka. Turtell hit an infield single that scored Peters with the final run of the inning. Moravian added four more runs on the top of the eighth inning wit a bunt single by Peters scoring Frey with the first run of the inning. Sofka singled to left field to score Wolf and Ordog, and Peters scored the final run of the inning on a Susquehanna error. The Crusaders would get two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to finish off the scoring in the game. Moravian had 13 hits in the game, led by Sofka, who was 4-for-4 with six RBIs. Clancy, Ordog and Peters each picked up two hits in the game. Sophomore pitcher Stephen Tomaszewski improved to 3-1 on the season with the victory. Tomaszewski tossed seven innings, allowing six runs, five of them earned, on 14 hits and three walks while striking out five batters. Peters pitched the final two innings of the game, allowing two earned runs on two hits and a walk.

The Greyhounds dropped a non-conference game to Alvernia College, 23-8. The Crusaders jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and led 14-2 after three innings. Alvernia had 20 hits in the game including nine home runs. Moravian its first run in the second inning on a bases loaded walk to junior catcher Michael Young. The Greyhounds would add another run in the top of the third inning off an RBI-single by junior outfielder Ethan Ordog. Moravian would cut Alvernia's lead to 14-8 with a six-run fourth inning. Young led off the fourth with a solo home run. Senior shortstop Luke Bricker drove in a run with an RBI-double while senior first baseman Bob Frey grounded into a fielder's choice to score a run. Ordog would add another RBI-single before junior outfielder Greg Peters finished the scoring for the Greyhounds with a two-RBI double. Moravian had 13 hits in the game with Young, Peters, Frey and sophomore designated hitter Chris Clancy each collecting two hits. Freshman third baseman Andrew Wayne added a double for Moravian. The Greyhounds used three pitchers in the game with sophomore Zach Dimovitz taking the loss after two innings of work. Freshman Daniel Wright pitched three innings while freshman John Howarth tossed one-plus innings in the game.

Moravian earned a 7-4 victory over Widener University in Commonwealth Conference action to take two of three games from the Pioneers in the 2003 series between the two schools. The Greyhounds fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning but took the lead for good in the bottom of the stanza when freshman designated hitter Bryan Wolf was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and sophomore outfielder Chris Clancy grounded into a fielder's choice to score a run. Moravian added a run in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI-single by junior second baseman Matthew Turtell. The Greyhounds extended their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI-single by senior first baseman Bob Frey. Moravian tallied three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI-double by junior outfielder/pitcher Greg Peters and a two-run single by senior shortstop Luke Bricker. Widener would score three unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning. Moravian had nine hits in the contest with Bricker going 3-for-4. Clancy was 2-for-4 while Peters was 2-for-3. Junior Brett Porter earned his first victory of the season on the mound, allowing an unearned run and five hits while striking out three in six innings. Moravian has postponed its single game with Widener University, scheduled for Friday, March 21st, until Monday, March 24th due to poor field conditions in Bethlehem. The two schools will play a doubleheader at Widener on Sunday and the single game at Moravian on Monday beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Vs. Muhlenberg College - Lost 6-5  Boxscore

The Greyhounds dropped a 6-5 decision to rival Muhlenberg College in non-conference action. Moravian led 5-2 after four innings but errors let the game slip away. The Greyhounds had a 1-0 lead after the first when junior second baseman Matthew Turtell scored on a steal of home on a designed play that had senior outfielder/catcher Jeff Meila thrown out at second base. Moravian added a run in the second inning on another designed play with junior outfielder/pitcher Greg Peters stealing home. After allowing the Mules a run in the third inning, the Greyhounds would score three times in the fourth inning with senior first baseman/pitcher Bob Frey scoring on an error and freshman third baseman Mike Sofka driving in two runs with a triple. However, the Mules would score five runs in the next four inning, and only one of the runs was earned as Moravian committed seven errors in the game. The Greyhounds had five hits in the game with Turtell collecting two of them. Peters, who was the fourth Moravian pitcher in the game, suffered the loss, surrendering two runs on a hit in the final two innings. The two schools are now tied in the annual Matte Award standings at 6-6.

The Greyhounds closed out their spring break trip to Fort Myers, Florida with an 11-2 loss to nationally ranked Ohio Wesleyan University. The Battling Bishops were ranked 13th in the American Collegiate Baseball Association preseason poll. Moravian completes its trip to Florida with an overall record of 4-3 and a 2-1 mark in the Commonwealth Conference. The Greyhounds fell behind in the first inning when Ohio Wesleyan scored on a solo home run. The Battling Bishops took a 6-0 lead in the third inning before Moravian got on the board. The Greyhounds used consecutive singles by junior Matthew Turtell and seniors Luke Bricker and Jeff Meila to score their first run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Meila picked up the RBI with his hit. The Greyhounds second run came in the seventh inning when senior first baseman Bob Frey hit a solo home run to left center, his first homer of the season and the 18th of his career, a Moravian record that Frey already owns. The Greyhounds had seven hits in the game with Bricker and freshman designated hitter Bryan Wolf both going 2-for-3. Sophomore Chris Clancy suffered the loss on the mound, pitching the first four innings of the game. Junior Brett Porter tossed the last three innings and had two strikeouts.

On a grounder hit by Moravian senior catcher Jeff Meila that scored Turtell, Illinois tried to make a play at second base on the play but an error allowed the second Moravian run to score. The Blueboys tied the game in the top of the second inning when the Greyhounds made errors on the first three balls hit in the inning.
