The Greyhounds had their 2004 season end in the championship game of the 2004 Commonwealth Conference Tournament at Owls Field in Reading. Moravian, the third seed, fell to second seeded Juniata College, 4-1. The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning and added two more runs in the fifth inning for a 3-0 lead. The Greyhounds scored their only run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. Senior outfielder Greg Peters walked with one out and moved to third on a single by freshman outfielder Pete Moore. Peters eventually scored on a wild pitch. Juniata would tack on a run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 4-1 final. The Greyhounds had just four hits in the game with Moore collecting two of them. Senior designated hitter Michael Young and junior outfielder Steve Tomaszewski also had hits in the game. Freshman pitcher Sean Brown tossed his first complete game of the season for the Greyhounds, allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out four batters.

Vs. Messiah College in Commonwealth Conference Tournament at Owls Field - Won 5-0       Boxscore

Moravian moved into the championship round of the 2004 Commonwealth Conference Tournament with a 5-0 victory over top seeded Messiah College in the second elimination game at Owls Field in Reading. The Greyhounds, the third seed, will now play second seeded Juniata College on Saturday, May 8th beginning at 12:00 p.m. Moravian needs to defeat the Eagles twice for the program's first conference championship since 1990 and first outright title since 1985, the last time Moravian won two games in the postseason until today. The Greyhounds 15 wins are the most since a 15-win season in 1998. Senior pitcher Greg Peters tossed his second shutout of the season against Messiah to improve to 5-3 on the year. Peters, who blanked the Falcons, 4-0, during the regular season, scattered five hits and did not walk a batter while striking out four. Moravian would give Peters all the offense he needed in the top of the second inning when sophomore first baseman Richie Cline walked and scored on an RBI single by sophomore second baseman Andrew Wayne. Moravian added three runs in the top of the fourth inning when junior third baseman Chris Benigno came up with the bases loaded. Benigno hit a ground ball to third base but a throwing error allowed all three runners to score and Benigno to end up on third base. The Greyhounds final run of the game came in the top of the ninth inning when Benigno scored on a wild pitch after walking to lead off the inning. Moravian had just five hits in the game including a double by senior designated hitter Michael Young and singles by Wayne, Benigno, junior Mike Trimble and freshman Sean Brown.

Vs. Elizabethtown College in Commonwealth Conference Tournament at Owls Field - Won 4-2       Boxscore

The Greyhounds survived their first elimination game in the 2004 Commonwealth Conference Tournament, defeating fourth seeded Elizabethtown College, 4-2, in a game played at Owls Field in Reading. With the victory, the third seeded Greyhounds move into the next elimination game versus top seed Messiah College. The win was the first in the postseason for the Greyhounds since 1990 when Moravian defeated Johns Hopkins University for the Middle Atlantic Conference Southern Championship. Junior pitcher Chris Clancy tossed a complete game victory for the Greyhounds, his second of the season. Clancy allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out nine batters. Elizabethtown scored single runs in the top of the first and third innings for a 2-0 lead. The Greyhounds cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third inning when senior shortstop Matthew Turtell, who was hit by a pitch, scored on an Elizabethtown error. Turtell did have a hit in the bottom of the first inning to tie the Moravian single season with 43 hits. The Greyhounds took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Freshman outfielder Pete Moore hit an RBI single to score senior outfielder Greg Peters, who had led off the inning with a double. Senior designated hitter Michael Young followed with an RBI double to score Moore with what was the winning run from first base. Moravian added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a bases loaded fielder's choice by Peters that scored freshman second baseman Mike Rodrigues, who had walked. The Greyhounds finished the game with ten hits including three by Moore and two by junior catcher Mike Trimble.

At Juniata College in Commonwealth Conference Tournament First Round - Lost 10-2       Boxscore

Moravian dropped its first game of the 2004 Commonwealth Conference Tournament, falling to second seeded Juniata College, 10-2. The third seeded Greyhounds will now face fourth seeded Elizabethtown College, a 1-0 loser to top seed Messiah College, in an elimination game at Owls Field in Reading, Pennsylvania on Friday, May 7th at 11:00 a.m. Juniata jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on RBI singles by Darren Hake and Zach Sternberg. The Greyhounds would cut the lead in half to 2-1 in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by freshman outfielder Pete Moore that scored junior catcher Mike Trimble, who had reached on a fielder's choice. The Eagles added a run in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Marc Frailey. Juniata took control of the game with a four-run fourth inning for a 7-1 lead. David Saintz had a two-RBI single before William Russell connected on a two-run home run. Troy Beaver added a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning for the Eagles, and Juniata scored two more runs in the seventh inning on a solo home run by Sternberg and an RBI triple by Saintz. Moravian's other run came in the top of the eighth inning on a solo home run by sophomore first baseman Richie Cline, his seventh homer of the season. The Greyhounds had just five hits in the game with two each by Cline and Moore. Senior shortstop Matthew Turtell had Moravian's other hit, and he added three assists in the field to set the Moravian single season record with 96 assists. Junior pitcher Steve Tomaszewski suffered the loss for the Greyhounds, snapping a personnel three-game winning streak to fall to 5-3 on the year. Tomaszewski allowed seven runs, just five of them earned, on seven hits and two walks in four innings of action. Senior Brett Porter tossed the other four innings for Moravian, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out one batter.

The Greyhounds dropped their final game of the regular season, falling to local rival DeSales University, 9-2, in non-conference action. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0- lead in the top of the third inning. Moravian would respond with a run in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI ground out by sophomore second baseman Andrew Wayne that scored sophomore outfielder/pitcher John Howarth, who had singled to lead off the inning. DeSales would extend its lead to 7-1 with a single run in the fifth inning and two more runs in the sixth inning. The Greyhounds pushed their other run across the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning on another RBI ground out by Wayne, this time scoring junior shortstop Adam Goetz. DeSales would tack on two more runs in the top of the ninth inning. The Greyhounds had nine hits in the game with two each by senior shortstop Matthew Turtell and sophomore first baseman Richie Cline. Freshman Sean Brown suffered the loss on the mound for Moravian, allowing seven runs, just four of them earned, on 12 hits with four strikeouts in six innings of action. Howarth tossed two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while junior Daniel Wright allowed two runs on two hits in one inning.

Moravian finished off the 2004 Commonwealth Conference regular season with a 5-4 loss at Widener University in the second game of a conference twinbill. The loss snapped a five-game Commonwealth winning streak for the Greyhounds. Moravian took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by senior designated hitter Michael Young that scored senior shortstop Matthew Turtell. Widener tied the game in the bottom of the third inning with an unearned run. The Greyhounds would then take a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning with on an RBI single by sophomore second baseman Andrew Wayne and a Widener error. However, the Pioneers would score four times in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 5-3 lead. Moravian would get a run back in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single by junior outfielder Steve Tomaszewski, but the Greyhounds left the tying run at third base. Moravian had eight hits in the game with two by sophomore first baseman Richie Cline. Senior Brett Porter started for the Greyhounds on the mound, allowing four runs, just three earned on nine hits with one strikeout. Junior Chris Benigno suffered his third loss of the season, allowing a run on two hits with a strikeout in 2/3 of an inning.

The Greyhounds defeated Widener University, 20-8, in the first game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader and with a split in another Commonwealth Conference doubleheader between Albright College and Lebanon Valley College, Moravian clinched its second straight Commonwealth Conference Tournament appearance. The Greyhounds took a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by freshman catcher Adam White, a two-RBI single by senior shortstop Matthew Turtell and an RBI double by sophomore second baseman Andrew Wayne. Moravian extended its lead to 10-0 in the top of the fourth inning with six more runs. Turtell got things started with an RBI single while senior designated hitter Michael Young had an RBI double and sophomore first baseman Richie Cline had an RBI single. The final three runs of the inning scored on a pair of Widener errors. The Pioneers cut Moravian's lead to 10-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning but the Greyhounds responded with eight more runs in the top of the sixth to push the lead back to 18-5. Cline had an RBI single followed by a sacrifice fly for junior third baseman/pitcher Chris Benigno. White drew a bases loaded walk for an RBI while Turtell drove in two runs with a double. Wayne had an RBI single before senior pitcher/third baseman Greg Peters hit a two-RBI triple to finish off the scoring in the inning. Widener would score three times in the bottom of the sixth inning but Moravian tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh inning for the 20-8 final. Sophomore outfielder John Howarth had a sacrifice fly in the seventh for the Greyhounds while freshman outfielder Pete Moore connected on a solo home run, his second homer of the season. Moravian had a total of 20 hits in the game with Moore collecting four of them. Turtell and Cline each added three hits while Wayne, junior outfielder Steve Tomaszewski and senior outfielder Ethan Ordog each had two hits. Peters improved to 4-3 on the mound, allowing five runs, just four earned on five hits and a walk while striking out four batters in 4 2/3 innings. Benigno tossed the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, just one earned, on three hits. Benigno also struck out three batters.

Moravian won its fourth straight Commonwealth Conference game and moved a step closer to clinching its second consecutive trip to the Commonwealth Conference Tournament with an 8-4 victory over Widener University in Commonwealth Conference action. The Greyhounds now need to either sweep Widener in Saturday's doubleheader to close out the 2004 conference season, or win one game and have Lebanon Valley College defeat Albright College once in their three-game series to clinch a playoff berth. Moravian fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning on an unearned run, and the Pioneers extended their lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. The Greyhounds got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning senior shortstop Matthew Turtell hit an RBI single to center field to score junior third baseman Chris Benigno, who had started the inning with a walk. Moravian would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI double down the left field line by senior outfielder Greg Peters, to score sophomore outfielder John Howarth, and an RBI single up the middle by Turtell to score Peters. The Greyhounds took the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth inning by scoring five runs for an 8-3 lead. The Greyhounds dropped their final non-conference road contest of the season, falling to Haverford College, 9-2. Moravian's only two runs in the game came in the top of the sixth inning when freshman shortstop Pete Moore connected on the first home run of his collegiate career, scoring senior outfielder Ethan Ordog, who had walked to lead off the inning. The Greyhounds were already trailing 5-0 when Moore hit his homer. Moravian had just three hits in the game with two by Moore and a single by sophomore first baseman Richie Cline. Junior Adam Goetz suffered the loss on the mound for Moravian, allowing nine runs, just seven earned on eight hits and a walk with one strikeout. Juniors Mike Roxbury and Daniel Wright each pitched an inning of scoreless relief for Moravian with Roxbury allowing a walk and a strikeout and Wright allowing three hits.

Moravian completed a tripleheader sweep of Susquehanna University in Commonwealth Conference action with a 6-2 victory in the final game. The Greyhounds improved to 10-8 in the Commonwealth Conference with the three game sweep and improved their chances for a second straight playoff berth. Moravian took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single to right field by senor designated player/catcher Michael Young that scored senior shortstop Matthew Turtell. Susquehanna would take its only lead of the day in the top of the second inning on an attempted double play by Moravian with the bases loaded and one out. A Moravian error allowed the second run to score. The Greyhounds retook the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning with a pair of runs. Junior third baseman/pitcher Chris Benigno hit an RBI triple down the right field line and then scored on a Susquehanna error. Moravian added three insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a three-RBI double by sophomore second baseman Andrew Wayne. Moravian finished the contest with eight hits including two by Turtell. Junior Andrew Wach started on the mound for the Greyhounds but left after 2/3 of an inning with an injury. Senior Brett Porter came on to pitch 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs, just one earned on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Benigno tossed the final 1 2/3 innings for his first save of the season, allowing just one hit and one walk.

Susquehanna scored a run in the top of the fourth inning on a home run by Ben Nyce to cut the Greyhounds lead to 2-1, before the Crusaders tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single by Tim Larson. Moravian quickly regained the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI single to left centerfield by Cline. The Greyhounds put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Moravian began a Commonwealth Conference tripleheader with Susquehanna University with a 14-1 victory in the first game. The Greyhounds were the visiting team as the first contest, which was played as a seven-inning game, was originally scheduled to be played as a nine-inning game in Selinsgrove. Moravian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Senior catcher Michael Young hit an RBI double to left center field to score sophomore second baseman Andrew Wayne and sophomore first baseman Richie Cline followed with a single up the middle to score Young. The Greyhounds would extend their lead to 5-0 in the top of the second inning on a two-RBI single to right field by Wayne and an RBI single to left field by Young. Moravian would make the score 6-0 with a run in the top of the fourth inning when senior shortstop Matthew Turtell stole home on a delayed steal play. Susquehanna would get its only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on a bases loaded walk. The Greyhounds scored twice in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single up the middle by senior designated hitter Ethan Ordog and an RBI double to left field by senior outfielder Greg Peters. Moravian added four runs in the top of the sixth inning for a 13-1 lead. At Susquehanna University - Postponed until April 24th

Moravian's first game of a Commonwealth Conference series with Susquehanna University has been postponed due to poor field conditions in Selinsgrove. The game has been rescheduled for Saturday, Apil 24th at 12:00 p.m. in Bethlehem with the Crusaders being the home team. The two teams will then play the regularly scheduled doubleheader beginning approximately 30 minutes after the first game. All three games will seven innings.

At Delaware Valley College - Cancelled

Moravian's non-conference game at Delaware Valley College for Tuesday, April 27th has been cancelled. Delaware Valley has had to reschedule a Freedom Conference game with the FDU-Florham for that date.

At Elizabethtown College - Lost 11-8       Boxscore

The Greyhounds dropped an 11-8 decision to Elizabethtown College in Commonwealth Conference action to close out the three-game series with the Blue Jays that began back on April 9th. Moravian led 7-6 after seven and a half innings before Elizabethtown erupted for five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the victory. Moravian's first run of the game came in the top of the third inning when senior shortstop Matthew Turtell scored on an RBI single by senior designated hitter/catcher Michael Young. Moravian scored twice in the fourth inning on an RBI grounder by junior catcher/third baseman Mike Trimble and a sacrifice fly by freshman outfielder Pete Moore. The Greyhounds added two runs in the top of the seventh inning two-RBI double by junior outfielder Steve Tomaszewski. Moravian would take the 7-6 lead in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run home run by senior outfielder Greg Peters. Moravian's final run of the game came in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI single by Moore. The Greyhounds had 13 hits in the game with Young collecting three of them. Turtell, junior third baseman/pitcher Chris Benigno and Trimble each had two hits while freshman second baseman Mike Rodrigues had a double. Senior pitcher Brett Porter tossed five innings in the game, allowing six runs on 12 hits and two walks while Benigno took the loss, allowing five runs, just two of them earned on six hits in three innings. Moravian snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over Albright College in Commonwealth Conference action. Junior Steve Tomaszewski tossed his second complete game shutout of the season for the Greyhounds to improve to 3-2 on the year. Tomaszewski scattered five hits and five walks while striking out nine batters in the nine-inning contest. Tomaszewski has pitched four complete games this season and lowered his ERA to 1.56 with the shutout. Moravian's only two runs of the game were unearned and came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior shortstop Matthew Turtell and sophomore second baseman Andrew Wayne drew back-to-back two-out walks before pulling off a double steal. On the play, the Albright throw to third base ended up going down the left field line, allowing Turtell to score and Wayne to move to third. Wayne then scored on a Lion error on a ball hit by freshman outfielder Sean Brown. The closest either team was to scoring in any other inning was when Moravian freshman outfielder Pete Moore was thrown out at the plate trying to score from first base on a double to right field by Turtell in the bottom of the third inning. Moravian left eight runners on base while Albright stranded all 11 runners it had on base. The Greyhounds had five hits in the game with junior third baseman Mike Trimble collecting two of them. The victory evened Moravian's Commonwealth Conference record at 7-7.

The Greyhounds lost the second game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Albright College, 11-8. Moravian fell behind, 1-0, after the first inning before taking a 4-1 lead in the top of the second inning. Sophomore second baseman Andrew Wayne drove in the first run with an RBI double, and he eventually scored on an error. Freshman outfielder Pete Moore drove in a run with a fielder's choice while senior shortstop Matthew Turtell drove in the final run of the inning with an RBI single. Albright cut Moravian's lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the second inning before the Greyhounds added four more runs in the top of the third for an 8-3 lead. Junior designated hitter Chris Benigno delivered a two-RBI double while junior outfielder Steve Tomaszewski had an RBI single and junior third baseman Mike Trimble drew a bases loaded walk to drive in the final run. The Lions would score the game's final eight runs for the 11-8 win. Moravian had nine hits in the game with Turtell and Benigno each going two-for-four. The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when senior shortstop Matthew Turtell, who had doubled to lead off the game, scored on a ground out by senior catcher Michael Young. The Lions scored twice in the first inning and once in the second for a 3-1 lead before Moravian tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the third inning. Sophomore first baseman Richie Cline connected on a two-run home run to score junior pitcher Chris Clancy, who had singled. The homer was Cline's fifth of the season. Moravian would take a 5-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning when Turtell hit a two-RBI double to score sophomore second baseman Andrew Wayne, who had singled, and junior third baseman Mike Trimble, who had reached on an error. The Greyhounds fell to Elizabethtown College 8-0 in the second game of a Commonwealth Conference Doubleheader at Gillespie Field in Bethlehem, PA. Moravian had just four hits in the game with three coming in the bottom of the seventh inning. Senior catcher Mike Young hit a double down the left field line in the first inning, while senior outfielder Ethan Ordog, junior third baseman Chris Benigno, and freshman outfielder Pete Moore each collected a hit in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs. However, Moravian was unable to score a run in the game. Blue Jays pitcher, junior Steve Luongo struck out 11 and allowed only four hits in seven innings of action while improving to 3-0 on the mound. Freshman outfielder Sean Brown hit a game winning single driving in junior third baseman Chris Benigno with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to come from behind and clinch the win. The Greyhounds also added a run in the seventh inning when senior outfielder Greg Peters sacrificed to center field scoring junior pinch runner Adam Goetz. The other Greyhound run came in the third inning when junior outfielder Chris Clancy had an RBI single up the middle scoring Peters, who had walked earlier in the inning and moved to second base on a hit by senior shortstop Matt Turtell. The Blue Jays scored one run in the second inning off a homerun by junior first baseman Eric Wetzel. E'Town scored another run in the top of the sixth when sophomore shortstop Jon Kalejta hit a shot down the right field line to score senior second baseman Adam Shephard who had reached base on an error. Junior pitcher Andrew Wach got the win and improved to 2-1 on the season. He allowed 3 hits and struck three out in a complete game.

The Greyhounds salvaged a doubleheader split against Commonwealth Conference rival Messiah College, winning the second game of the twinbill, 4-0. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for Moravian and improved the squad to 5-4 in Commonwealth Conference action. The Greyhounds scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning. Senior catcher Michael Young hit a two-RBI triple while sophomore first baseman Richie Cline and senior pitcher Greg Peters each had RBI singles. Moravian had six hits in the game with senior outfielder Ethan Ordog adding two hits including a double. Peters evened his season record at 2-2 on the mound with his second complete game of the year. Peters allowed just four hits while striking out three batters in the shutout.

The Greyhounds earned their first victory at the Clearwater (FL) Invitational with a 14-1 win versus Wentworth Institute of Technology. Moravian jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when senior outfielder Ethan Ordog hit an RBI single to left field that scored junior outfielder Mike Trimble, who had hit a one-out single. The Greyhounds extended their lead to 2-0 in the third inning on an RBI single to center field by Ordog, which scored Trimble. Moravian added another run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by senior second baseman Matthew Turtell that scored sophomore first baseman Bryan Wolf, who had tripled with one out. The Greyhounds erupted for 11 runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 14-0 lead. Junior Steve Tomaszewski led off the inning as a pinch hitter and reached base after being hit by a pitch. Ordog sacrificed Tomaszewski to second base, and Tomaszewski scored on an RBI triple to right centerfield by junior designated hitter Chris Clancy. Clancy would score on an error before freshman first baseman Mike Dubitsky singled to score a run. After a pair of wild pitches allowed two more runs to score, Tomaszewski hit a two-run single to center field. Sophomore Jon Howarth followed with an RBI double, and Clancy added an RBI single. Sophomore third baseman Richie Cline drove in the final two runs of the inning with a double to left field. Wentworth scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. Moravian pounded out 18 hits in the game with Clancy and Trimble each collecting three hits. Turtell and Wolf each had two hits while Clancy, Cline, Tomaszewski and Wolf each had two RBIs in the victory. Junior pitcher Andrew Wach earned the victory on the mound for Moravian, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out four batters. Junior Daniel Wright tossed the final inning, allowing a run on two hits with one strikeout.

Moravian dropped its first game at the Clearwater (FL) Invitational, falling to Drew University, 2-1. The Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the seventh inning and scored the winning run in the eighth inning. The Greyhounds scored their run in the bottom of the ninth inning on an RBI single up the middle by sophomore third baseman Richie Cline. Cline's hit scored freshman Pete Moore, who was pinch running for senior outfielder Ethan Ordog. Ordog led off the ninth with a walk. The Greyhounds stranded Cline at second base. Moravian had seven hits in the game with Cline and junior Mike Trimble each collecting two hits. Senior Greg Peters pitched the entire game for the Greyhounds, allowing two runs, just one earned run, on six hits and two hits while striking out 11 batters.

The Greyhounds let a 4-0 lead slip away in a 6-5 loss to Juniata College to close out a three-game Commonwealth Conference series played at the University of Tampa. Moravian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Junior outfielder Chris Clancy doubled to right centerfield to score senior outfielder Ethan Ordog, who had led off the inning with a single, and Clancy crossed the plate on a two-out, RBI single to centerfield by senior designated hitter Michael Young. The Greyhounds added a run in the top of the third inning when junior catcher Mike Trimble was hit by a pitch, stole second base and came around to score on a Juniata throwing error. Moravian extended its lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning when Young drove in sophomore first baseman Bryan Wolf with an RBI single to centerfield. Wolf had reached on an infield single. The Eagles cut Moravian's lead in half in the bottom of the fourth inning on a pair of unearned runs. The Greyhounds would make their lead 5-2 in the top of the eighth inning when Clancy ripped an RBI single through the left side to score senior outfielder Greg Peters, who had walked to lead off the inning. However, Juniata scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the contest, and the Eagles pushed the winning run across with one-out in the bottom of the ninth. Moravian had nine hits in the game with Clancy going three-for-four with two RBIs and Young going two-for-three with a pair of RBIs. Senior Brett Porter started on the mound for the Greyhounds, pitching five innings and allowing two unearned runs on six hits. Freshman Sean Brown suffered the loss in his first appearance for the Greyhounds, allowing four runs, just one earned, on four hits and four walks in 3 1/3 innings. Brown did strikeout one batter. The Greyhounds took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Junior outfielder Chris Clancy drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a two-out single through the left side by sophomore third baseman Richie Cline. Cline scored on a double steal with Young, who would cross the plate on an RBI single to centerfield by freshman shortstop Pete Moore. Juniata scored a run on Moravian starter, junior Steve Tomaszewski in the bottom of the fifth, and the Eagles added a pair of unearned runs in the seventh inning to tie the score at 3-3 and force extra innings. Moravian would earn the victory with four runs in the top of the eighth inning. Senior second baseman Matthew Turtell singled and moved to second when junior catcher Mike Trimble reached on fielder's choice sacrifice bunt. Senior outfielder Greg Peters loaded the bases with a bunt single, and freshman outfielder Sean Brown emptied the bases with a three-RBI double down the left field line. Brown scored on a double to left field by Clancy. Moravian finished the game with eight hits. Moravian opened up its 2004 season with a 13-4 loss to rival Muhlenberg College in non-conference action. The Greyhounds fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning and trailed 4-0 after three innings. Moravian was down by a score of 10-0 before the Greyhounds pushed three runs across the plate in the top of the seventh inning. Junior outfielder Steve Tomaszewski started the inning with a double to right centerfield, and he scored on a wild pitch and throwing error. Sophomore first baseman Bryan Wolf singled to right field and scored on an RBI single to left field by freshman shortstop Pete Moore. Sophomore designated hitter/pitcher Jon Howarth, who reached on a fielder's choice in the top of the seventh, scored the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by junior third baseman Mike Trimble. After allowing the Mules to push the lead back to ten runs in the bottom of the seventh inning at 13-3, Moravian scored the game's final tally in the top of the ninth inning with freshman pinch hitter Sean Brown singled and scored on an RBI single by senior second baseman Matthew Turtell. The Greyhounds finished with nine hits in the game with Turtell going three-for-three in the leadoff position. Junior pitcher Chris Benigno took the loss for the Greyhounds, allowing five earned runs on six hits and three walks in five innings of work. Junior pitcher Adam Goetz was touched for eight runs on ten hits in two innings of action and both Benigno and Goetz each hit two batters. Howarth tossed the final inning of the game, allowing a pair of walks but no hits or runs. Muhlenberg retakes the lead in the annual Matte Award standings with the victory, 6.5 to 5.5.
