Vs. Messiah College Lost 98-91
The 2000-01 season came to a close for the Greyhounds with a 98-91 loss to Messiah College in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian trailed at halftime, 50-45, and was out-shot from the floor 59.6 % by Messiah to 45.8 percent. Senior forward Chris Hayn led Moravian with 24 points in his final collegiate game while sophomore guard Kevin Hall added 20 points. Senior guard David Jordan tossed in 15 points to complete his career with 1,059 points, 15th in school history. Jordan also made two three-pointers to finish his career with a school record 150 threes. Sophomore forward Ken Greb had 13 points in the game and six rebounds. Hayn led the squad with seven rebounds as Moravian out-rebounded Messiah 36-35. Freshmen guards Lucas Malishchak and Steve Weiler each had four assists in the game with Weiler adding nine points.
At Elizabethtown College Won 81-78
For the second time in two weeks, the Greyhounds defeated a nationally ranked team as the squad traveled to Elizabethtown College and rallied in the second half for an 81-78 over the 23rd ranked Blue Jays. Moravian trailed 38-31 at halftime before outscoring Elizabethtown 50-40 in the second half. The victory also snapped Elizabethtown’s 15 game home winning streak. Coming up big in the second half for Moravian was freshman guard Jon Leader. Leader, who had played a total of 50 minutes in the Greyhound’s first 22 games, played 15 minutes in the second half and contributed 13 points including three three-pointers that sparked the Greyhound rally. Senior guard David Jordan scored 12 of his game high 16 points in the final 2:27 with a pair of three-pointers and a six-of-six performance from the charity stripe in the final 1:02. Senior forward Chris Hayn had 14 points and seven rebounds in the game while sophomore forward Ken Greb had 13 points and six boards. Junior forward Mike Frew led the Greyhounds with a career high eight rebounds while sophomore guard Kevin Hall added eight points. Freshmen guards Lucas Malishchak and Jay Leader each had six points in the win.
At Lebanon Valley College Lost 82-72
Senior guard David Jordan tossed is 20 points and made four three-pointers to break the school career record of 143 but it wasn’t enough as the Greyhounds fell to Lebanon Valley College, 82-72 in Commonwealth Conference action. Jordan has made 146 three-pointers in his career, breaking Matt Getter’s two-year old record. Junior forward Mike Frew had a career high 15 points in the game with four rebounds while sophomore forward Ken Greb had 12 points, a team high eight rebounds and four assists. Moravian was just five of 11 from the foul line in the second half while Lebanon Valley was 29 of 39 at the charity stripe.
Vs. Albright College Won 63-50
The Greyhounds forced visiting Albright College into 30 turnovers and outscored the Lions 39-25 in the second half to earn their fourth straight victory with a 63-50 triumph in Commonwealth Conference action. Senior forward Chris Hayn led the way for Moravian with 16 points while sophomore guard Kevin Hall had ten points. Sophomore forward Ken Greb had nine points while senior guard David Jordan was held to three points just one game after surpassing the 1,000-point career plateau. Hayn had a team best five rebounds in the game as Albright out-rebounded Moravian 43-31. In addition to the turnover difference 30-9 in Moravian's favor, the Greyhounds were 19 of 24 from the foul line while Albright was just 6 of 13 at the charity stripe.
Vs. Wilkes University Won 104-96
Senior guard David Jordan scored 28 points to surpass 1,000 points for his career and the Greyhounds scored 64 points in the second half to defeat the number on team in the nation Wilkes University, 104-96 on Alumni day. Moravian led by 12 points midway through the first half before Wilkes responded to take a 41-40 halftime lead. The Colonels extended their lead to 53-45 before the Greyhounds began to rally in the game. Moravian tied the score at 57-57 on a three-pointer with 12:12 to play. The two teams traded the lead until the four minute mark when the Greyhounds took the lead for good, 79-77 on a lay-up by sophomore forward Ken Greb. Wilkes had tied the game just eight second earlier when senior guard Dave Jannuzzi scored a lay-up. Jannuzzi had 33 points in the contest and became Wilkes' all-time leading scorer in the contest. Jordan would get his 1,000th career point on a three-pointer, one of seven in the game, with 2:37 to play, giving Moravian an 85-80 lead. Moravian was 15 of 26 behind the three-point line in the contest with sophomore guard Kevin Hall adding four treys with two of over 25 feet. Hall added 24 points in the victory while Greb gad 16 points. Senior forward Chris Hayn had 12 points for the Greyhounds while freshman guard Lucas Malishchak added 14 points including an 8-for-8 performance from the foul line in the final two minutes of the game. The Greyhounds out-rebounded Wilkes 32-31 behind eight boards from Greb and six from Jordan. The 104 points was the first time the Greyhounds had scored 100 since netting 105 points in a win over Western Maryland College on January 6, 1996.
At Delaware Valley College Won 89-91
For the second straight game, Moravian used a big offensive second half to post a victory as the Greyhounds won their first road game of the season and their first in a year with an 89-81 victory at Delaware Valley College. Senior forward Chris Hayn netted a career best 26 points while sophomore guard Kevin Hall had a career high 25 points in the contest. Senior guard David Jordan chipped in 16 points to move within 23 of 1,000 points in his career and freshman guard Lucas Malishchak added ten points and six assists. Jordan led Moravian on the boards with nine rebounds while Hall grabbed a career best six boards. Sophomore forward Ken Greb had six points, five rebounds and four assists in the win while freshman guard Jay Leader had four assists. Moravian shot 50 percent for the second straight contest and was 80 percent from the free throw line while Delaware Valley was just 53 percent from the foul line.
Vs. Susquehanna University Won 95-55
The Greyhounds had their highest point output of the season and handed the Susquehanna University squad its worst loss since the 1967-68 season as Moravian topped the Crusaders, 95-55, in Commonwealth Conference action. Sophomore guard Kevin Hall tied his career high with 21 points to lead all players. Hall was 5 of 9 behind the three-point line and the Greyhounds were 50 percent behind the arc, making 13 of 26 three-point attempts. Three other Greyhounds scored in double figures with sophomore forward Ken Greb netting 16 points, senior guard David Jordan scoring 13 points to put him 39 away from 1,000 and freshman guard Steve Weiler netting 11 points. Jordan led the team with seven rebounds as Moravian out-rebounded Susquehanna 49-36. Freshman guard Jay Leader had six rebounds while senior forward Chris Hayn and sophomore guard Willie Reynolds each scored eight points in the victory.
Vs. Juniata College Lost 76-75
The Greyhounds had a pair of runs at the end of each half to make a game of it, posting a 15-2 run to take a 36-34 halftime lead and another 15-2 run late in the second half to tie the game at 67-67 with 3:18 to play, before Juniata College's Shane Crandall hit a baseline jumper with six seconds left to give Juniata a 76-75 win in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian has taken a 75-74 lead with 29 seconds remaining on a driving lay-up by freshman Jay Leader, who scored a career best ten points in the contest. Juniata was hot in the second half, making 57 percent of its shots and 67 percent of its three-pointers. Senior guard David Jordan paced the Moravian offense with 24 points to move within 52 of 1,000 in his career. Sophomore guard Kevin Hall had 15 points while sophomore forward Ken Greb added ten points and team leading nine rebounds. Jordan also had five rebounds in the loss.
At Widener University Lost 93-70
Despite shooting 51 percent from the floor and having four players score in double figures, the Greyhounds were unable to slow down the top team in the Commonwealth Conference, falling at Widener University, 93-70. Moravian trailed 43-34 at the half after shooting 58 percent in the first half. Senior guard David Jordan moved closer to 1,000 points in his career with a team best 16 in the contest. Senior forward Chris Hayn added 15 points while sophomores guard Kevin Hall and forward Ken Greb each had 13 points. Hayn and Greb each grabbed eight rebounds for Moravian.
Vs. Drew University Won 93-79
The Greyhounds used a balanced scoring attack to snap a two-game losing streak and earn a 93-79 win over Drew University in Middle Atlantic Conference action. Moravian won for the fourth time at home this season and for the first time when the team had shot over 50 percent from the floor. Senior guard David Jordan, senior forward Chris Hayn and sophomore forward Ken Greb each scored 18 points in the victory and sophomore guard Kevin Hall added 11 points. Greb, who tied his career high with the 18 points, led Moravian on the boards with seven rebounds while Jordan and Hayn each grabbed five boards. Freshman guard Lucas Malishchak added seven points, four assists and two steals in the game.
At Messiah College Lost 66-45
The Greyhounds were never able to get on track as Moravian fell to Messiah College, 66-45, in the final Commonwealth Conference game in the first half of the season. The Hounds shot just 27 percent from the floor and 58 percent at the foul line for the contest while trailing 43-21 at the half. Sophomore forward Ken Greb led Moravian with 14 points while senior forward Chris Hayn added 12 points and both players have five rebounds. Freshman forward John Cartegna had a team high six rebounds and senior guard David Jordan was held to a pair of free throws in the game.
Vs. Elizabethtown College Lost 83-75
Despite the first double-double of senior guard David Jordan's career and another double-double from sophomore forward Ken Greb, the Greyhounds suffered an 83-75 loss to Elizabethtown College in Commonwealth Conference action. Jordan led the Greyhounds with 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting and he had a career best 12 rebounds in the contest. Greb had a career high 18 points and added 12 rebounds with eight on the offensive end in the loss. Moravian trailed 53-50 with 9:37 to play when the Greyhound bench was assessed a technical foul. The Blue Jays would extend their lead to 70-54 before Moravian would make a run at the end of the game. The Greyhounds got within five points at 78-73 with 1:12 left in the game but Elizabethtown would put the game away from the foul line. Sophomore guard Kevin Hall added 15 points in the contest which saw Moravian play without senior forward and starter Chris Hayn due to a concussion.
Vs. Lebanon Valley College Won 83-74
Senior guard David Jordan scored 27 points and the Greyhounds connected on 30 of 35 free throws in the game as the Greyhounds earned their first Commonwealth Conference win of the season, defeating Lebanon Valley College, 83-47. Moravian trailed by two points at halftime but connected on 23 of 26 free throws in the second half to earn the win over the Flying Dutchmen. Jordan also led the Greyhounds with nine rebounds as Moravian out-rebounded the taller Lebanon Valley squad, 36-29. Sophomore guard Kevin Hall and sophomore forward Ken Greb each scored 13 points for the Greyhounds and Greb added seven boards. Senior forward Chris Hayn, junior forward Mike Frew and junior guard Doug Spadt each added eight points in the win.
At Albright College Lost 75-58
Senior forward Chris Hayn scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds but it wasn’t enough as the Greyhounds fell to Albright College, 75-58, in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian played the taller Lion squad even in the second half with each team scoring 43 points and the Greyhounds only lost the battle of the boards for the game by one, 39-38, however, Moravian trailed 32-15 at the end of the first half. Senior guard David Jordan scored 11 points and led the Greyhounds with eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Ken Greb added five rebounds and four points in the game.
Vs. Muhlenberg College Lost 75-69 in Greyhound Nike Classic Championship Game
The Greyhounds jumped out to a 14-point halftime lead, 35-21, over rival Muhlenberg College in the championship game of the 23rd Annual Greyhound Nike Classic but Moravian couldn't hold on for its 11th tournament championship as the Mules out scored Moravian 54-34 in the second half to earn a 75-69 win. Muhlenberg picked up its fourth title when playing Moravian for the championship in ten tries and the fifth title overall for the Mules. Sophomore guard Kevin Hall, an All-Tournament selection, led Moravian with 19 points. Sophomore forward Ken Greb was also named to the All-Tournament team after a 10-point, career best 13-rebound performance. Senior guard David Jordan scored 13 points and had six rebounds while freshman guard Lucas Malischak added ten points. Senior forward Chris Hayn had eight rebounds in the loss.
Vs. Centenary (NJ) College Won 78-47 in Greyhound Nike Classic First Round
The Greyhounds won their first game of the new year, defeating Centenary (NJ) College, 78-47, in the first round of the Greyhound Nike Classic. Muhlenberg College won the other contest, 78-64, over Grove City College and the two rivals will meet in the championship game for the tenth time with Moravian holding a 6-3 advantage. The Greyhounds used a balanced scoring attack led by senior forward Chris Hayn with 13 points. Sophomore forward Ken Greb had 12 points while freshman guard Lucas Malischak added 11 points. Hayn also led the Greyhounds on the boards with seven rebounds while Greb and junior forward Mike Frew had six rebounds each. The Greyhounds had 19 offensive rebounds in the game with 12 in the first half as Moravian built a 45-20 halftime lead. Sophomore Kevin Hall added eight points in the game while freshman guard Jon Leader led the Greyhounds with four assists and three steals.
At Muhlenberg College Lost 85-78
Despite having five players score in double figures, the Greyhounds were unable to hold off rival Muhlenberg College, falling by the final score of 85-78. Moravian had fought back from a 12-point deficit early in the second half to take a 64-63 lead with 6:37 to play before falling behind for good. Senior guard David Jordan and sophomore forward Ken Greb each scored 15 points in the game. Greb, who tied his career high, also led the Hounds with seven rebounds while Jordan led Moravian with four assists and he added five rebounds. Sophomore guard Kevin Hall had 14 points in the loss while freshman guard Lucas Malishchak had a career high 12 points to go along with four steals and three assists. Senior forward Chris Hayn was the fifth Greyhound player in double figures with ten points. Moravian heads to the Christmas holiday with a 1-7 record.
At Susquehanna University Lost 78-61
The Greyhounds dropped a 78-61 decision to Susquehanna University in Commonwealth Conference action. Senior forward Chris Hayn was the only Moravian player to score in double figures in the game with 17 points. Sophomore forward Ken Greb added nine points and a team high eight rebounds while senior guard David Jordan added nine points, the first game this season he did not reach double-figures in scoring. Freshman guard Jay Leader had the best game of his brief Moravian career with seven points, four rebounds and three assists. The Greyhounds shot just 29 percent in the first half and 33.3 percent for the game.
At the University of Scranton Lost 99-83
Moravian dropped a 99-83 decision to the University of Scranton despite having four players score in double figures led by 23 points from senior guard David Jordan. The Greyhounds were down by nine points at the half, 45-36, and rallied to take a 54-52 lead before the Royals put the game away with their hot shooting in the second half, 64 percent from the floor and 96 percent from the foul line. In addition to Jordan's 23 points, senior forward Chris Hayn added 18 points, sophomore forward Ken Greb had 13 points and freshman guard Lucas Malishchak tallied a career best 11 points. Hayn, junior forward Mike Frew and junior guard Doug Spadt each had five rebounds in the game and Spadt had a career high six assists.
At Juniata College Lost 75-72 (overtime)
The Greyhounds battled back from a 38-23 halftime deficit at Juniata to tie the game at 66-66 with 1:23 remaining before falling 75-72 in overtime to the Eagles. Moravian was led in scoring by senior forward Chris Hayn, who had 19 points and a team best seven rebounds. Senior guard David Jordan contributed 14 points in the loss with 12 in the second half and the Greyhounds only six points in overtime. Freshman guard Steve Weiler netted 11 points, all in the second half and he also had a team best four steals in the contest. Sophomore forward Ken Greb led Moravian with four assists and he added six points and five rebounds.
Vs. Widener University Lost 74-62
The Greyhounds opened their 2000-01 Commonwealth Conference season with a 74-62 loss to preseason favorite Widener University. Moravian did have four players score in double figures with sophomore guard Kevin Hall, senior guard David Jordan and senior forward Chris Hayn each scoring 12 points and freshman guard Lucas Malishchak netting 10 points. Sophomore forward Ken Greb had a career high 11 rebounds in the game and Hayn added a career best ten rebounds as Moravian won the battle on the boards, 49-44. Jordan added seven rebounds while freshman guard Steve Weiler had six boards. The Greyhounds were hampered in the game by poor shooting especially in the second half as the team was 10 of 37 on field goals and one of ten on three-point attempts.
Vs. Allentown College Won 65-62
The Greyhounds opened their 2000-01 home season with a 65-62 win over Allentown College despite missing 12 free throws in the second half and 14 in the game. Sophomore guard Kevin Hall led Moravian in scoring with a career high 21 points. Sophomore forward Ken Greb and senior guard David Jordan in scored in double-figures with Greb netting 12 points and Jordan adding 11. Senior forward Chris Hayn grabbed a team high eight rebounds in the win while junior forward Mike Frew added seven rebounds and eight points. Freshman guard Lucas Malishchak had five rebounds, four points, four assists and three steals in the contest.
Vs. Clark Univ. at Salem Bank & Trust Tournament Lost 98-83
Senior guard David Jordan scored a career-high 39 points and grabbed five rebounds but it wasn’t enough as the Greyhounds fell to Clark University (MA), 98-83, in the consolation game of the Salem Bank & Trust Tournament hosted by Roanoke College. Senior forward Chris Hayn added 14 points and four rebounds in the loss while junior forward Mike Frew pulled down five rebounds. Freshman guard Steve Weiler had eight points in his first collegiate start.
Vs. Roanoke College at Salem Bank & Trust Tournament Lost 89-72
The Greyhounds opened the 2000 season with an 89-72 loss to host Roanoke College in the first round of the Salem Bank & Trust Tournament. Senior guard David Jordan, sophomore forward Ken Greb and freshman guard Steve Weiler each scored 12 points in the loss. Jordan added five rebounds while Greb led the team with five assists. Senior forward Chris Hayn led Moravian with six rebounds and he added five points while junior forward Mike Frew netted seven points.
