2005-2006 Review

The 2005-2006 Moravian College men’s basketball team posted an overall record of 9-16 and a 4-10 slate in the Commonwealth Conference. Head coach Jim Walker has a record of 334-293 in 25 years at Moravian College and an overall record of 358-319 in his 27th season as a head coach.

Senior forward Zach Zsilavecz (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) averaged 11.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game and contributed 25 steals, 29 assists, six blocked shots and 23 three-pointers. He was named to the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Weekly Honor Roll. Classmate Ed Reid (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl HS) contributed 9.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, along with 32 assists, 24 steals, 21 blocked shots, and 24 three-pointers.

Sophomore Ryan Miller (Easton, PA/Easton HS) led the team with three-pointers with 42. He averaged 9.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per game and contributed 23 steals, and 47 assists. Classmate Justin Chestnut (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland HS) added 8.4 points per game and 2.0 rebounds per game along with 27 steals, 20 three-pointers, and a high of 84 assists. Sophomore Mark Franzyshen (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata HS) averaged 7.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per game while adding 13 assists, 17 steals, ten blocked shots and two three-pointers.

Sophomore Chris Earley (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan HS) contributed 6.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while adding 18 assists, 12 steals, 12 blocks, and six three-pointers. Junior Mike Clemente (Toms River, NJ/Central Regional HS) put up 5.8 points per game. He also had 54 rebounds, 50 assists, 24 steals, two blocks, and 33 three-pointers. Junior Matt Devlin (Sadsburysville, PA/Coatesville HS) added 5.4 points and led the team with 4.4 rebounds per game. He had 17 assists, 15 steals, five three-pointers and 23 blocked shots.

Sophomore Eric Whitman (Blairstown, NJ/Notre Dame HS) averaged 3.7 points and 2.3 rebounds each game along with four assists, ten steals, one block, and ten three-pointers. Senior Joe Depasquale (Forked River, NJ/Lacey HS) contributed 37 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists, nine steals and 11 three’s while classmate Tyler Tripucka (Glen Ridge, NJ/Glen Ridge HS) added 13 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks.

Sophomore Greg Jones (Bronx, NY/Mount St. Michael Academy) had 27 points, 21 rebounds, 26 assists, and 12 steals and four three-pointers. Sophomore Chris Bays (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown HS) had seven points, two rebounds, and five assists, one steal and one three. Junior Kyle Hatfield (Boca Rotan, FL/St. Andrews School) put up five points, four rebounds, and one assist while junior Jeremy Walker (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) had four points, one steal, one assist, and one three-pointer. Sophomore Michael Peck (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) added one point and one rebound while freshman Dave Bowden (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South HS) had seven points, and three rebounds.

Senior Steve Wenderfer (Chester, NJ/Mendham HS) contributed four rebounds, one assist, and one steal before getting injured, keeping him out for the rest of the season.
