Moravian closed out its 2006-07 season with an 88-69 loss at Elizabethtown College in the team's final game as a member of the Commonwealth Conference. The Greyhounds had an early 10-6 lead before Elizabethtown began to pull away. The Blue Jays posted a 37-22 halftime advantage after shooting 15 of 35 from the field, one of eight behind the three-point line and six of nine at the foul line in the first 20 minutes. The Greyhounds connected on just seven of 19 first half field goal attempts (46.8 percent), two of nine three-pointers and all six of their free throw attempts in the first half. The Greyhounds snapped their six-game losing streak with a 108-102 triple-overtime victory at Widener University. The last time Moravian scored over 100 points was a 105-93 triple-overtime win at Juniata College on February 4, 2004. Moravian trailed the Pride 41-27 at halftime. The score was tied at 3-3 before Widener took the lead for the remainder of the half. The Greyhounds were ten of 24 (41.7 percent) from the field in the first 20 minutes, one for ten on three-pointers and six of 11 at the foul line while Widener made 17 of 32 field goal attempts, four of 11 three-pointers and three of three foul shots. Widener came out of the locker room and maintained its lead for the first six minutes of the second half. The Pride led 49-34 with 13:47 when the Greyhounds went on a 19-3 run to take a 53-52 lead on a free throw by junior guard Ryan Miller with 7:37 remaining on the clock. Moravian eventually built a six-point lead, 64-58 with 3:41 to play before Widener came back. The Pride tied the score at 65-65 and then again at 67-67 before Moravian took a 71-67 lead with just 28 seconds to play. The Greyhounds still led, 73-70 in the final seconds before Widener's Bobby Edmunds hit a three-pointer with three seconds to tie the game at 73-73 and send the contest to overtime. Moravian was 11 of 25 from the floor (44.0 percent) in the second half, five of nine on three-pointers and 19 of 24 at the foul line while the Pride made nine of 22 field goals, one of eight three-pointers and 13 of 19 free throws in the second half. In the first overtime, the Greyhounds had an early lead and were up 82-79 with 1:50 remaining before Widener came back and took an 84-82 lead. Moravian tied the contest with 29 seconds remaining in the first overtime on a pair of free throws by junior forward Mark Franzyshen. The Pride's Essien Ford had a shot to win the game at the end of the first extra five minutes but missed. In the second overtime, the Greyhounds again took an early lead, up 90-86 with 3:21 to play. Widener again fought back and eventually took a 93-92 lead with 59 seconds left in the second overtime. Moravian freshman forward Eric Weaver hit one of two free throws with 30 second on the clock to tie the game at 93-93. Ford would attempt a pair of three-pointers in the final five seconds trying for the Widener win but missed both shots. The Greyhounds came out and dominated the third overtime early on, scoring seven points in the first 1:13 and taking a 104-95 lead on a free throw by Weaver with 1:04 left on the clock to seal the win. Moravian was eight of 16 from the floor, two of three on three-pointers and 17 of 24 at the foul line in the three overtime periods while Widener made ten of 23 field goals, two of ten three-pointers and seven of seven free throws in the extra 15 minutes. Moravian did finish the game with a 52-38 advantage in rebounds. The Greyhounds had five players in double figures led by Franzyshen with a career high 29 points to go with four rebounds. Moravian suffered its sixth straight loss in its final home game of the season, falling to Messiah College, 79-47, in Commonwealth Conference action in Johnston Hall. The loss eliminates the Greyhounds for a possible berth in the postseason. After a 2-2 tie, the Falcons jumped out to an 8-2 lead and never looked back. Messiah pushed the lead into double digits at 20-10 with 6:39 remaining in the first half. The Falcons went to the locker room with a 29-19 lead after shooting 13 of 26 from the field and three of seven behind the three-point line. Messiah, which did not attempt a free throw in the first half, also had a 17-15 edge in rebounds after the first 20 minutes. The Greyhounds struggled shooting the ball in the first half, going six of 22 from the floor (27.3 percent), missing all five three-point attempts and making seven of ten free throws. Messiah continued to stretch its lead in the second half with 50 points after the intermission. The Falcons' lead eventually reached 30 points in the final three minutes of the contest. Messiah shot even better in the second half, making 16 of 26 field goal attempts, seven of ten three-pointers and 11 of 14 free throws. The Falcons also had a 37-26 advantage in rebounds for the game. The Greyhounds dropped a 71-64 decision at Lebanon Valley College in Commonwealth Conference action. The loss, Moravian's fifth straight, virtually eliminates Moravian from reaching the Commonwealth Conference postseason tournament. The Flying Dutchmen jumped out to a 7-0 lead and slowly pushed the lead into double digits. Lebanon Valley's largest lead on 17 points, 38-21, came with 1:32 remaining in the first half. The Flying Dutchmen went to the locker room with a 38-25 advantage after shooting 16 of 36 from the floor, five of 12 behind the three-point line and one of three at the foul line in the first 20 minutes of the game. Lebanon Valley also had a 22-19 advantage in rebounds and committed just seven first half turnovers to ten for the Greyhounds. Moravian was 11 of 28 from the floor (39.3 percent), one of ten on three-pointers and two of four from the field in the first half. Lebanon Valley maintained its double-digit lead until the midway point of the second half when the Greyhounds began to close the gap. Moravian suffered its fourth straight loss, falling to Susquehanna University, 76-70, in a Commonwealth Conference game in Johnston Hall. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 6-2 lead before the Crusaders went on a 16-2 run to take an 18-8 lead with 14:30 remaining in the first half. Moravian would cut Susquehanna's lead back to four points, 24-20, with 9:45 on the clock but the Crusaders put together a 7-0 run to push their lead back to double digits at 31-20 with 6:18 to play. Susquehanna would head to the locker room at the intermission with a 43-28 lead after making 16 of 36 field goal attempts, two of nine three-pointers and nine of 12 free throws in the first 20 minutes. Moravian was ten for 27 (37.0 percent) from the floor in the first half, two of nine on three-pointers and six of nine at the foul line. The Greyhounds had a 24-17 advantage on the boards in the first half; however, Moravian committed 18 turnovers to just six for Susquehanna. The Crusaders kept their lead in double figures for the first five minutes of the second half, leading 53-42 with 15:02 to play. Moravian slowly began to pull back into the game, eventually getting within two points at 59-57 with 10:46 remaining in the game. The game remained close in the first half with neither team having a lead over six points. Moravian's largest lead was 15-9 with 15:19 on the clock while the Lions largest lead was three points, 27-24 with 5:45 to play before the intermission. The teams went to the locker room tied at 35-35. The Greyhounds were 12 of 30 from the field (40.0 percent), five of 12 behind the three-point line and six of six at the foul line in the first half while Albright connected on 15 of 26 field goal attempts, one of five three-pointers and four of five free throws. The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead but the Greyhounds took the lead on a three-pointer and would lead by as many as six points twice, having a 14-6 advantage with 12:39 remaining in the first half. Juniata then went on a 15-2 run to take a 23-16 lead with 7:19 showing on the first half clock. Moravian did not score in the final two minutes of the first half as the Eagles went to the locker room with a 34-21 lead. Juniata connected on 12 of 29 first half field goal attempts, three of nine three-pointers and all seven of its free throw attempts, and the Eagles had a 22-14 advantage on the boards in the first 20 minutes. Moravian improved to 3-3 in Commonwealth Conference action, winning its sixth game since returning from break with an 82-74 victory over Elizabethtown College in conference play. The Blue Jays jumped out to an early lead and led by as many as ten points, 27-17 with 8:25 to play until the intermission. The Greyhounds responded with a 23-7 run to end the half, heading to the locker room with a 40-34 lead. Moravian connected on 14 of 31 field goal attempts (45.2 percent) in the first half, five of 12 three-pointers and seven of nine free throws while Elizabethtown was 13 of 30 from the field and eight of 11 at the charity stripe. The Blue Jays missed all four of their first half three-point attempts, and Elizabethtown made 13 turnovers in the first half to 11 for the Greyhounds. Elizabethtown did have a 21-16 advantage on the boards in the first half. Moravian came out of the locker room and quickly pushed the lead to 14 points, 53-39 with 17:54 to play. The Blue Jays cut the score to 53-44 with a 5-0 run. The Greyhounds answered with a 10-1 run of their own to build their biggest lead of the game, 63-45, with 14:21 to play. The Greyhounds earned an 81-78 victory at Albright College in Commonwealth Conference action. The win was also Moravian's ninth of the season, matching its win total from the 2005-06 season. The Lions jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the game, but Moravian rallied and eventually took a 25-22 lead with 6:42 remaining in the first half. The teams went to the locker room tied at 39-39. The Greyhounds connected on 14 of 35 field goal attempts (40.0 percent) in the first 20 minutes, and Moravian was six of 16 on three-pointers and five of six at the foul line. Albright made 16 of 28 first half field goals, and the Lions were seven of eight at the foul line while missing their only three-point attempt. Moravian would lead almost the entire game with the Flying Dutchmen having the lead just once at 3-2. The contest was tied 11-11 with 13:59 remaining in the first half when the Greyhounds went on a 15-4 run to build a 26-15 lead with 8:10 until the intermission. Lebanon Valley ran off six straight points to pull within 26-21 but Moravian answered with a 7-0 run to lead 33-21. The Greyhounds went to the locker room with a 42-33 lead after shooting 14 of 32 from the floor (43.8 percent), six of ten behind the three-point line and eight of nine at the foul line in the first half. Moravian also had a 19-17 advantage in rebounds in the first half. The Flying Dutchmen struggled shooting the ball in the first half, making 10 of 27 field goal attempts, three of ten three-pointers and ten of 12 free throws. The win also marked the 350th at Moravian for head coach Jim Walker, who is 350-315 in 27 years at Moravian and 365-325 overall. The Greyhounds are now 37-21 in the history of the tournament. Montclair State led the entire first half except for a brief 2-2 tie. The Red Hawks largest advantage would be 12 points, 28-16 with 7:46 until the intermission, and Montclair State had a 33-23 edge with 3:46 remaining. Moravian finished the half with a 12-3 run capped by a lay-up by junior guard Ryan Miller just before the buzzer to go the locker room trailing by just a point, 36-35. The Greyhounds were 14 of 29 from the floor (48.3 percent), three of nine behind the three-point line and four of six on free throws in the first 20 minutes while the Read Hawks were 16 of 31 from the field, three of seven on three-pointers and just one of five on free throws. The Greyhounds jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead but saw the Rangers pull within one point at 13-12 with 10:50 before the intermission. Moravian slowly built its lead the rest of the half and headed to the locker room with a 38-21 edge. The Greyhounds shot well in the first 20 minutes, making 13 of 28 field goal attempts (46.4 percent), four of ten three-pointers and eight of 13 free throws while Drew was just seven of 22 from the field, four of 11 on three-pointers and three of seven at the charity stripe. The Greyhounds lost their second straight Commonwealth Conference game, falling at Susquehanna University, 82-73. The Crusaders jumped out to a 5-0 lead but Moravian would eventually take a 6-5 lead, one of three one-point leads in the first half for the Greyhounds. Susquehanna would eventually pull ahead for good at 11-10 with 12:49 remaining in the first half. The Crusaders eventually pulled away for a 40-26 halftime advantage after making 14 of 32 from the floor, four of 11 behind the three-point line and eight of 11 at the foul line in the first 20 minutes. Moravian struggled shooting in the first half, connecting on nine of 32 field goal attempts (28.1 percent), two of ten three-pointers and all six of its free throw attempts. Susquehanna had a 22-20 advantage in rebounds in the first half, and the Crusaders forced Moravian into 17 turnovers in the first half while making 13 miscues themselves. Moravian dropped its 2006-07 Commonwealth Conference season opener to Widener University, 78-65, in Johnston Hall. The Greyhounds scored the first two points of the game and held a 14-11 lead with 13:04 remaining in the first half before the Pride went on a 17-2 run to build a 28-16 lead with 7:41 left before the intermission. Moravian answered with its own 15-2 run to retake the lead at 31-30 with 2:39 remaining in the first half on a three-point play by junior forward Mark Franzyshen. Senior guard Michael Clemente banked in a three-point shot at the buzzer to give the Greyhounds a 36-34 halftime advantage. Moravian connected on 14 of 30 field goal attempts (46.7 percent), three of eight three-pointers (37.5 percent) and all five of its free throw attempts in the first half; however, the Greyhounds committed 12 turnovers in the first 20 minutes and were out-rebounded 19-16 by Widener. The Pride was 15 of 33 from the floor, one of seven behind the three-point line and three of six at the foul line in the first half. Moravian extended its leas to 38-34 early in the second half before a 13-0 run by Widener gave the Pride a 47-38 advantage with 16:28 to play and the lead for good. The Greyhounds earned a 75-72 non-conference victory at Dickinson College, rallying to score 17 points in the final 4:38 to win the game. Moravian scored the first basket of the game before watching the Red Devils run off ten straight points for a 10-2 lead. Dickinson would extend the lead to 20-9 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half. Moravian slowly began closing the gap and would eventually take a 33-32 lead on a three-pointer by junior forward Chris Earley with 3:31 left in the first half. The Greyhounds went into the locker room with a 43-41 halftime lead. Moravian made 17 of 32 first half field goal attempts (53.1 percent) and eight of nine free throws (88.9 percent) while making just one of six three-pointers. Dickinson was 16 of 33 from the floor, five of ten behind the three-point line and four of six from the foul line in the game's first 20 minutes. Moravian suffered a 72-68 loss to local rival DeSales University in the team's home opener in Johnston Hall. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game before the Bulldogs rallied to take a 16-15 lead with 8:52 left in the first half. After six lead changes, DeSales eventually pulled away to take a 35-25 halftime lead. The Bulldogs were 13 of 34 from the floor, one of six on three-pointers and eight of ten on free throws in the first half while Moravian made just nine of 29 field goal attempts (31.0 percent), three of 14 three-pointers (21.4 percent) and all four of its free throws. DeSales also had a 24-18 advantage in rebounds and had forced the Greyhounds into 12 turnovers in the first 20 minutes of the game. The Bulldogs kept the lead to begin the second half, eventually leading 45-34 with 14:34 on the clock. The Saxons had an early 6-3 lead before Moravian built at 26-18 lead with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half. Alfred put together a run to take a 31-30 lead with 5:34 left in the half, but the Greyhounds had an 18-8 run to finish the half with a 48-39 lead. Moravian made 16 of 35 field goals (44.4 percent) in the first half, and the Greyhounds were seven of 15 (46.7 percent) behind the three-point line and nine of 11 at the foul line (81.8 percent). The Saxons connected on 11 of 30 field goal attempts, two of seven three-pointers and 15 of 16 free throws. Four minutes into the second half, Moravian had built a 15-point lead at 58-43 before Alfred responded with a 22-5 run to take a 65-63 lead with just under ten minutes remaining in the contest. The Greyhounds had a 26-22 advantage with 5:09 left in the first 20 minutes before the Lions finished the half with a 14-7 run. Moravian made 13 of 27 field goal attempts (48.1 percent), four of nine three-pointers (44.4 percent) and three of four free throws in the first half while Emerson was 16 of 32 from the floor, two of nine behind the three-point line and two of four at the foul line. The Greyhounds came out of the locker room strong to start the second half and would build a seven-point lead at 54-47 with 12:31 remaining in the game; however, the Lions' hot shooting ended up being too much for Moravian. The Lions would then build a five-point lead they held for the remainder of the game.
