2006-2007 Review

The 2006-2007 Moravian College men’s basketball team posted an overall record of 11-14 and a 4-10 slate in the Commonwealth Conference, the program’s final year in the Commonwealth. Head coach Jim Walker has a record of 345-307 in 26 years at Moravian College and an overall record of 369-333 in his 28th season as a head coach.

Junior forward Mark Franzyshen (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata HS) led the Greyhounds averaging 12.7 point a game. Franzyshen also contributed 113 rebounds, 20 assists, eight blocks, and 13 steals this season. Junior guard Ryan Miller (Easton, PA/Easton HS) posted 12.2 points per contest to go along with 81 rebounds, 65 assists, and 34 steals.

Junior Eric Whitman (Blairstown, NJ/Notre Dame East Stroudsburg HS) contributed 11.2 points per game this season, while grabbing 142 rebounds and adding 43 three-pointers, 22 assists, 10 blocks and 27 steals. Junior forward Steve Wenderfer (Chester, NJ/Mendham HS) put up 10.1 points an outing to go along with a team leading 145 rebounds, 22 assists, seven blocks and 24 steals, while junior forward Chris Earley (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan HS) averaged 7.9 points a game with 82 rebounds, 30 assists, nine blocks and 29 steals.

Senior guard Michael Clemente (Toms River, NJ/Central Regional HS) led Moravian both in three-pointers made with 44 and in assists with 74. Clemente has averaged 7.2 points per-contest, 44 rebounds, and 35 steals as well. Freshman forward Eric Weaver (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury HS) contributed 113 points, 68 rebounds, 17 assists, and 21 steals, while senior forward Matt Devlin (Sadsburyville, PA/Coatesville HS) had 111 points, 20 blocks, 17 steals, and 76 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Greg Jones (Bronx, NY/Mount St. Michael Academy) put up 69 points, 43 rebounds, 46 assists, and 25 steals while sophomore forward Dave Bowden (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South HS) contributed 16 points, and 12 rebounds. Junior guard Chris Bays (Hackettstown, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS) had 14 points and 10 rebounds, senior guard Jeremy Walker (Hellertown, PA/Freedom HS) had 11 points, and seven assists, and senior David Heller (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh HS) contributed five points to go along with three rebounds.

Also contributing in limited action were freshmen guards Michael Zubia (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), who had eight points and four rebounds, and Patrick Bray (Neshanic Station, NJ/Somerville HS), who contributed two points and a steal. Freshman guard Joseph Munley (Macungie, PA/Emmaus HS) had one point and three rebounds before having season ending surgery.

Wenderfer and Devlin were both named to the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Winter Academic Honor Roll.
