The University of Scranton men’s basketball team rallied from a 12-point deficit early in the second half to earn a 91-75 Landmark Conference victory over Moravian at the Long Center as the Royals clinched the top seed for the 2009 Landmark Conference Tournament.
Scranton improves to 19-6 overall and 11-3 in Landmark Conference action, and the Royals will host The Catholic University of America in a Landmark Conference semifinal game on Wednesday, February 25th. The Greyhounds close out the 2008-09 season with an overall record of 10-15 and a 5-9 mark in conference action after the loss.
The Royals jumped out to a 4-0 lead on baskets by Eli Londo and Ryan FitzPatrick before the Greyhounds ran of five straight points on a three-point play from sophomore guard Maurice Young and a lay-up by senior forward Dave Bowden to take a 5-4 lead at the 16:47 mark. Zach Ashworth put Scranton up 13-7 with a three-pointer with 13:41 to play in the first half.
Moravian would go on a 9-2 run to retake the lead, 16-15, on a three-pointer from freshman guard Shane Painter at the 11:07 mark. Paul Biagioli put the Royals back on top with a three-pointer 22 seconds later. The Greyhounds then put together a 10-2 run including back-to-back three-pointers from freshman guard Sergio Camacho to give Moravian a 26-20 lead with 8:34 remaining in the first half.
The Greyhounds pushed their lead to nine points, 41-32, with 2:58 until the break on a Painter lay-up. Scranton pulled within two points, 41-39, on a basket by Dan O’Connell with 1:07 on the clock but a three-pointer from Painter sent Moravian to the locker room with a 44-39 lead.
Moravian made 14 of 31 field goal attempts (45.2 percent), seven of 11 three-pointers and nine of ten free throw attempts in the first 20 minutes of the game. The Greyhounds had just four turnovers in the first half while Scranton committed seven turnovers. The Royals also shot the ball well, making 15 of 30 field goal attempts (50 percent); however, Scranton was just three of seven on three-pointers and six of 13 at the foul line in the first 20 minutes. The Royals did hold a 20-16 advantage in rebounds in the first half.
The Greyhounds came out of the locker room and scored the first seven points of the second half with a three-pointer from sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso pushing the Moravian lead into double digits at 51-39 with 18:41 remaining in the game. Scranton put together a 12-0 run to tie the game at 51-51 with 16:12 to play on a three-pointer by FitzPatrick. Moravian would get the lead back to four points, 60-56, on a three-pointer by Camacho at the 13:09 mark, and the Greyhounds had a 62-59 advantage with 11:59 to play after a lay-up from freshman guard/forward Nelson Leon.
The teams would trade the lead over the next four minutes until Young tied the contest at 67-67 with a three-pointer at the 7:22 mark. Scranton then went on a 9-0 run to take control of the game and build a 76-67 lead on an O’Connell three-pointer with 5:06 to go. The 9-0 burst started a 24-8 run for the Royals to finish the game.
Scranton connected on 16 of 24 field goal attempts (66.7 percent), seven of 12 three-pointers and 13 of 14 free throws in the final 20 minutes while finishing the game with a 41-22 advantage in rebounds. The Royals did commit 14 turnovers while Moravian had just seven turnovers. The Greyhounds’ shooting went cold in the second half as the team was just ten of 30 from the floor (33.3 percent), four of 11 on three-pointers and seven of eight at the foul line after the intermission.
Moravian did place five players in double figures with Camacho tying his career high with a game high 19 points that included five three-pointers, and he had four steals and three assists. Painter tossed in a career best 13 points to go with three rebounds while junior forward Eric Weaver added 12 points and four boards for the Greyhounds. Young tossed in ten points as did sophomore forward Chris Cullen, who also had a team high five rebounds.
Leon added six points, three assists and two rebounds for Moravian while Rigoglioso finished with three points. Bowden had two points and two rebounds in his final game in a Greyhound uniform.
Scranton also had five players in double figures with Biagioli and FitzPatrick each tossing in 18 points. Biagioli added seven rebounds, five assists and three steals while FitzPatrick had four boards and three assists. Luke Hawk contributed 16 points, four rebounds and four assists for the Royals while Ashworth had 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. O’Connell tossed in 12 points while Londo contributed six points and six rebounds for Scranton. Paul Hawk had five points, five rebounds, three assists and a game high three blocked shots in the contest for the Royals.

Sophomore guard Maurice Young scored a career high 26 points to help Moravian hold off a second half rally and earn a 93-82 win over The Catholic University of America in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall.
The victory lifts Moravian to 10-14 overall and 5-8 in Landmark Conference action as the Greyhounds were playing their final home game of the 2008-09 season. Catholic drops to 16-8 overall and 7-6 in conference action with the loss, but the Cardinals still clinched a berth in the Landmark Conference Tournament on Sunday with Juniata College falling in overtime to the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
Moravian would lead the entire contest, scoring first the first seven points on a three-pointer and jumper from sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso and a lay-up by Young in the first 3:26 of the game. The Greyhounds would lead by 17 points, 21-4, after a Young three-point play at the 12:10 mark, and Moravian’s largest lead of the first half, 43-20, came on a pair of Young free throws with 36 seconds to play.
The Greyhounds headed to the locker room with a 45-22 advantage after making 16 of 33 field goal attempts (48.5 percent), six of 14 three-pointers and all seven of their free throw attempts in the first 20 minutes. Moravian also had a 24-14 edge in rebounds while committing just four turnovers. Catholic struggled shooting the ball in the first half, connecting on just eight of 27 field goal attempts (29.6 percent), two of six three-pointers and four of seven free throws. The Cardinals also had eight turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
Moravian came out of the locker room and started with a 12-6 run to build its largest lead of the game 29 points, 57-28, on a tip-in by senior forward Dave Bowden at the 16:51 mark. At that point, Catholic would slowly begin to close the gap, getting the Greyhound lead under 20 points at 78-59 on a lay-up from sophomore forward Jason Banzhaf at the 7:01 mark.
Banzhaf’s bucket started a 17-4 run that would see the Cardinals pull within eight points, 82-74, on a three-pointer from sophomore guard R.J. Dixon with 2:39 to play. Moravian would hit all seven of its free throws in the final 1:44 to keep Catholic from getting any closer than seven points.
Both teams had a hot shooting touch in the second half with the Greyhounds connecting on 15 of 27 field goal attempts (55.6 percent), three of seven three-pointers and 15 of 18 free throws in the final 20 minutes. Moravian also had a 37-32 advantage in rebounds for the game while committing just 11 turnovers. Catholic was 20 of 32 from the floor (62.5 percent), four of eight on three-pointers and 16 of 21 at the foul line in the second half and made just four turnovers in the final 20 minutes for a total of 12 in the game.
Young had four rebounds to go with his game high 26 points, and he was one of four Moravian players in double figures. Junior forward Eric Weaver, sophomore forward Alvin Adams and freshman guard Sergio Camacho each tossed in ten points. Adams grabbed a game high ten rebounds for his first career double-double as the ten points were a career high, and he also had two blocked shots. Weaver added three assists while Camacho had three rebounds.
Rigoglioso, sophomore forward Chris Cullen and freshman guard Shane Painter each had eight points for the Greyhounds with Rigoglioso grabbing three rebounds. Bowden finished with seven points and three assists in his final home game while freshman guard/forward Nelson Leon had four points and three assists.
Banzhaf led three Catholic players in double figures with 24 points with 20 points coming in the second half, and he added eight rebounds and three assists. Sophomore forward Spencer Reed added 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals while Dixon had 12 points, ten in the second half. Freshman forward Darrell Carroll had nine points, four boards and three blocked shots for the Cardinals while senior guards Evin Yarborough, Sean Stolenthaler and Nick Olivero each had six points.

Senior guard Darrin Boswell II scored 14 of his game high 23 points in the second half to lead the Goucher College men’s basketball team to a 71-64 victory in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall.
The Gophers improve to 6-15 overall and 4-8 in Landmark Conference action with the victory while the Greyhounds drop to 9-14 overall and 4-8 in conference play as well. Moravian was still alive for the final spot in the 2009 Landmark Conference Tournament heading into the contest but was eliminated with the loss.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a pair of free throws from junior forward Eric Weaver and a jumper from sophomore forward Chris Cullen in the first 1:06 of the game. However, Moravian would not score again until the 10:57 mark on a lay-up from freshman guard Shane Painter to cut Goucher’s lead to 13-6 and ending a 13-0 Gopher run.
Goucher would eventually put its lead into double digits, 21-11 with 5:30 remaining in the first half on a jumper from freshman guard Shane Yambor. The Gophers would get their largest lead of the half just 16 seconds later on another jumper from Yambor.
Goucher went to the locker room leading 32-20 after shooting 12 for 36 from the floor, 33.3 percent), one of four on three-pointers and seven of ten from the foul line in the first 20 minutes of the contest. Both teams had 26 rebounds in the first half while the Gophers committed just six turnovers while Moravian had 13 turnovers in the first 20 minutes. The Greyhounds also struggled shooting the ball, making just eight of 32 field goal attempts (25 percent), two of 14 three-pointers and two of six free throws.
Moravian scored twice to open the second half to cut the Goucher lead to 32-25 on a lay-up from senior forward Dave Bowden . The Gophers countered with an 8-0 run to take a 15-point lead, 40-25, at the 17:05 mark on a lay-up by senior guard Miguel Negron. Goucher’s lead eventually reached 17 points, 54-37, on a Boswell three-pointer with 11:25 to play.
The Greyhounds would put together a 15-5 run to pull back within seven points at 5:32 to go play on a jumper from sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso but that was as close as Moravian could get the rest of the way.
Both teams shot the ball very well in the second half. Goucher was 15 of 28 from the floor (53.6 percent), two-for-two behind the three-point line and seven of eight at the foul line in the final 20 minutes. Moravian was 18-for-35 on field goal attempts (51.4 percent), one of nine on three-pointers and seven of nine at the foul line in the second half while both teams finished the game with 42 rebounds. The Greyhounds committed 19 turnovers in the game while Goucher had 17 turnovers.
Weaver lead Moravian with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists while sophomore guard Maurice Young tossed in 12 points with four rebounds and four blocked shots. Freshmen guard Sergio Camacho and guard/forward Nelson Leon each had eight points with Camacho adding four rebounds and three assists. Rigoglioso added seven points and three boards while sophomore forward Alvin Adams had a game high nine rebounds to go with five points and three blocked shots for the Greyhounds. Bowden added four points for Moravian while Painter had eight rebounds and three points.
Goucher had two other players in double figures in addition to Boswell, who also had six rebounds, with Yambor adding 17 points, five assists and three rebounds. Sophomore guard Nick DeSousa tossed in ten points and had three assists for the Gophers while senior center Amir Hakim had eight points and eight rebounds. Freshman forward Steve Musenga contributed seven rebounds, six points and three blocked shots while junior forward Reginald Suggs had four points and three boards.

At Marywood University - Won 85-66 - Boxscore
Sophomore forward Chris Cullen scored a career high 22 points to lead Moravian to an 85-66 victory over Marywood University in non-conference action.
Moravian improves to 9-13 on the season with its second straight victory while the Pacers saw their four-game winning streak snapped with the loss and fall to 15-8.
Moravian built a five-point lead over the first five minutes of the game and following a lay-up from Marywood’s Matthew Medici, the Greyhounds went on an 8-1 run over the next five minutes to claim an 18-9 advantage with 10:46 to play in the opening half.
Moravian stretched its lead to as many as 17 points in the first half on a lay-up by freshman guard Shane Painter lay-up with 3:14 remaining in the opening period and took a 39-23 lead into the locker room.
The Greyhounds had a hot shooting hand in the first 20 minutes of the game, making 16 of 32 field goal attempts (50 percent), three of ten three-pointers and four of five free throws. On the other hand, the Pacers struggled shooting the ball, making just eight of 35 field goal attempts (22.9 percent), one of 13 three-pointers and six of nine free throws in the first 20 minutes.
Marywood’s Chadli Charlot scored the first six points of the second half, but Moravian was able to extend their advantage to 51-35 on a lay-up from junior forward Eric Weaver with 15:31 to play. The Pacers went on a 7-2 run to narrow the deficit to 11 points with 10:44 to play following a Prince Blacknall three-pointer.
The two teams swapped baskets over the next three minutes and another Blacknall three-pointer with 7:32 remaining put the score at 64-54 in favor of the Greyhounds, but the Pacers were unable to come any closer.
Moravian continued its strong shooting in the second half, connecting on 17 of 35 field goal attempts (48.6 percent), two of eight three-pointers and ten of 14 free throws in the final 20 minutes. The Greyhounds also finished the game with a 47-36 edge in rebounds while both teams committed ten turnovers. Marywood shot the ball much better in the second half, making 16 of 31 shots from the floor (51.6 percent), four of nine three-pointers and seven of ten free throws.
Cullen led all scorers with his 22 points to go along with seven rebounds and a pair of blocked shots while Weaver tossed in 17 points and grabbed seven boards. Freshman guard Sergio Camacho added 13 points for the Greyhounds to go with career highs of seven rebounds and four assists while sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso added eight points and five boards.
Sophomore guard Maurice Young had seven points to go with six rebounds and four assists for Moravian while Painter and sophomore forward Alvin Adams each scored four points. Painter added five rebounds while Adams grabbed three boards.
Sidney Tharpe led Marywood with 20 points while Blacknall added 15 points for the Pacers. Charlot was the third Pacer in double-figures with 10 points while Karl Anderson pulled down a team-best seven boards.

Moravian snapped a three-game losing streak and won on the road for the first time in two months as the Greyhounds defeated Drew University, 95-63, in Landmark Conference action.
The win lifts Moravian to 8-13 overall and 4-7 in Landmark Conference action this season while Drew falls to 4-18 overall and 2-9 on conference play.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a three-pointer from junior forward Eric Weaver at the 18:55 mark. The Rangers would come back to tie the game at 6-6 on a lay-up from Bobby Clackner with 16:58 to play in the first half. Drew took a 9-8 lead on a three-pointer from Gerard Mullin while senior forward Dave Bowden hit a jumper to put Moravian up 10-9 with 15:32 on the clock.
Bowden would give the Greyhounds the lead for good just over a minute later when he hit a three-pointer at the 14:25 mark putting Moravian up 15-13. Bowden’s basket started a 10-0 Greyhound run that ended with a three-pointer from freshman guard Sergio Camacho putting Moravian up 22-13. The Greyhound lead would hit double digits for the first time on a three-pointer from freshman guard Shane Painter at the 11:01 mark for a 27-15 lead, and Moravian pushed the lead over 20 points at 49-28 on a jumper from sophomore forward Alvin Adams with 3:18 left in the first half.
The Greyhounds headed to the locker room with a 56-29 halftime lead after shooting 18-for-31 from the floor (58.1 percent), seven of 13 on three-pointers and 13 of 15 at the foul line in the first half. Moravian also had a 17-6 advantage in rebounds and committed just four turnovers in the first 20 minutes while Drew had eight turnovers. The Rangers make 11 of 23 field goal attempts (47.8 percent), four of eight three-pointers and three of six free throws in the first half.
Drew would start the second half with a 7-0 run to cut the Moravian lead to 20 points at 56-36 after a three-pointer from Mullin. The Greyhounds would eventually push the lead over 30 points, 74-43, with 13:05 left in the game after a three-pointer from sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso. Weaver and Rigoglioso each scored 14 points with Weaver adding seven rebounds and three assists and Rigoglioso contributing five rebounds and three assists for the Greyhounds. Bowden tossed in 11 points to go with six rebounds while Painter had ten points and four boards.
Freshman forward Jeff Cullinan had seven points and four rebounds for Moravian while Adams had six points. Sophomore guard Ryan O’Donnell had six points and three boards while freshman guard/forward Nelson Leon had three points, six rebounds and two assists. Koelbel netted four points while sophomore forward Chris Cullen had three rebounds and two points for the Greyhounds.
Mullin led Drew with 15 points while Mike Mayes added 11 points and four rebounds. Jay Nemeyer had nine points and three rebounds for the Rangers while Nelson Albino had six points and two assists. Joe Horvath tossed in five points while Clackner and Ryan Eisner each scored four points for Drew with Eisner adding three steals.

The United States Merchant Marine Academy men’s basketball team saw a 19-point second half lead cut to two points while eventually holding off Moravian College for a 68-65 Landmark Conference victory.
With the victory, the Mariners improve to 13-8 overall and remain in a first place tie in Landmark Conference action at 8-2. The Greyhounds are now 7-13 overall and 3-7 in conference action after the team’s third straight loss.
Ryan Samuel put USMMA on the scoreboard first with a pair of free throws, and the Mariners would have a 10-0 lead after a three-pointer from Matt Hueber at the 15:54 mark. Moravian would finally put points on the board on a three-pointer from sophomore forward Chris Cullen with 14:28 remaining in the first half. The Mariners kept their lead above seven points the entire first half, leading by as many as 12 points, 29-17, with 4:03 left in the first half on a lay-up from Matt Oaks.
USMMA headed to the locker room with a 34-25 lead. The Mariners were 11 of 25 from the field (44.0 percent), five of 12 on three-pointers and seven of ten at the foul line in the first 20 minutes. Moravian struggled shooting in the first half, making just eight of 30 field goal attempts (26.7 percent), four of 14 three-pointers and five of eight free throws. The Greyhounds did have a 21-19 edge in rebounds in the first half, and Moravian had eight turnovers in the first 20 minutes while USMMA committed seven turnovers.
The Mariners came out in the second half and extended their lead to 19 points, 51-32, on a three-pointer by Denver Effland with 13:36 remaining in the game. Moravian put together a 13-2 run to pull within eight points, 53-45, on a pair of free throws from freshman guard Shane Painter with 10:27 to play. Moravian continued to close the gap slowly through the remainder of the half, eventually pulling within two points, 67-65, with 50 seconds left on a three-pointer from freshman guard Sergio Camacho. Trailing by three-points in the final 15 seconds, both sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso and Painter would get three-point attempts off but neither fell through the basket.
Moravian’s shooting improved in the second half as the Greyhounds made 11 of 26 field goal attempts (42.3 percent), four of 12 three-pointers and 14 of 17 free throws in the final 20 minutes. The Mariners were 12 of 35 from the floor (34.3 percent), one of eight on three-pointers and just nine of 18 at the foul line in the second half. Moravian finished the game with a 46-41 edge in rebounds while the Greyhounds committed 16 turnovers in the game to ten for USMMA.
Camacho came off the bench to lead the Greyhounds with 15 points, and he was one of three non-starters to reach double figures in the game. Senior forward Dave Bowden netted a career high 12 points for Moravian while Painter had career highs of ten points and seven rebounds in the game. Junior forward Eric Weaver added nine points and seven boards for the Greyhounds while Cullen had eight points, a career high ten rebounds and two assists.
Rigoglioso had five points and four rebounds for Moravian while sophomore guard Maurice Young returned from an injury and had three-points in limited action. Max Paul led USMMA with 17 points to go with six rebounds while Hueber had a double-double with 15 points and a game high 14 rebounds. Oaks tossed in 11 points off of the Mariner bench while Samuel had nine points, ten assists and three boards. Tom Izzo added nine points and nine rebounds while Effland scored five points for the Mariners.

The Juniata College men’s basketball team held on to earn a 77-76 win in a back-and-forth Landmark Conference game over visiting Moravian , which led by as many as nine points, in Huntingdon.
The victory lifts the Eagles to 4-16 overall and 2-7 in Landmark conference action while the Greyhounds fall to 7-12 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
Juniata scored first on a basket by Eric Muessler, and the Eagles had a 4-2 lead after a Ryan Jones jumper. Moravian then went on a 12-2 run, capped off by a lay-up from sophomore forward Chris Cullen at the 15:31 mark to give the Greyhounds a 14-6 lead. Juniata responded with a 15-2 run over the next five and a half minutes to retake the lead, 21-16, on a pair of Jones free throws with 9:59 left in the first half.
Jones converted on a three-point play to put Juniata up 24-19 with 8:54 before the intermission. Moravian answered with an 8-0 run that saw junior forward Eric Weaver hit a three-pointer to tie it and a free throw to give the Greyhounds a 27-24 advantage with 6:52 to remaining in the first half. Moravian would push its run to 20-6 to take its largest lead of the game, nine points, 39-30 with 3:11 in the half in a pair of free throws from freshman guard/forward Nelson Leon.
Juniata closed the gap late in the half but Moravian took a 43-38 lead to the locker room at halftime. Moravian had a hot shooting touch in the first 20 minutes, making 14 of 27 field goal attempts (51.9 percent), five of 13 three-pointers and ten of 13 free throws. The Greyhounds also had an 18-15 edge on the boards in the first 20 minutes while both schools committed eight turnovers. Juniata was 12 of 29 from the field (41.4 percent), two of nine on three-pointers and 12 of 15 at the foul line in the first 20 minutes.
The Eagles started the second half with a 5-0 run to tie the game at 43-43 on a jumper from Dave Thompson with 18:14 to play, and Juniata would eventually retake the lead, 49-47, on a jumper by Jones at the 12:35 mark. Leon would hit a free throw at 10:47 to pull Moravian within one, 51-50, before the Greyhounds retook the lead on a lay-up from sophomore forward Alvin Adams, 55-54 with 9:19 to go.
From that point on, there were six lead changes and three ties during the remainder of the game. Juniata led 60-55 after a Muessler lay-up with 7:27 remaining before Moravian ran off six straight points, all from freshman guard Sergio Camacho (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) to give the Greyhounds the lead back, 61-60, with 6:04 to play. Moravian’s final lead of the game came with 2:57 remaining when Cullen hit a pair of free throws to put the Greyhounds up 67-66. The Eagles would finally take the lead for good on a lay-up from Jeff Berkey with 50 seconds to play. Berkey hit a free throw with five seconds remaining to give Juniata a three-point lead, 77-74, before Moravian sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso hit a lay-up with a second to play ending the scoring.
Moravian continued its hot shooting, making 11 of 22 field goal attempts in the second half; however, the Greyhounds were just one-for-ten on three-pointers and ten of 13 at the foul line. Juniata was 17-for-30 from the field (56.7 percent) in the final 20 minutes, and the Eagles were three of eight on three-pointers and just two-for-nine at the foul line in the second half. Juniata did finish the game with a 32-29 edge in rebounds, and the Eagles had 15 turnovers to 17 for the Greyhounds.
Camacho led four Moravian players in double figures with 18 points, three rebounds and a pair of assists while Rigoglioso had 13 points and four boards. Cullen tossed in 12 points and grabbed three rebounds for the Greyhounds while Weaver had ten points.
Leon had eight points and four rebounds for the Greyhounds. Adams had six points and three boards off of the bench while freshman forward Jeff Cullinan had five points. Freshman guard Shane Painter had five boards and two points. The Greyhounds did play the game without starting sophomore guard Maurice Young, the team’s second leading scorer, due to injury.
Berkey led Juniata and all scorers with 22 points while Jones tossed in 19 points to go with a game high eight rebounds. Muessler added 14 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Eagles while Dan Sekulski had seven points and five boards. Susquehanna University forward Joel Patch had game highs of 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Crusaders to a 71-57 victory over Moravian in Landmark Conference action.
Susquehanna improves to 12-6 overall and remains in a tie for first place in the Landmark Conference with a 6-2 mark while the Greyhounds fall to 7-11 on the year and 3-5 in conference action.
The Crusaders scored first on a basket from Rob Cosgrove before Moravian scored six straight points, taking its largest lead of the game, 6-2, on a lay-up from sophomore guard Maurice Young at the 17:49 mark. Susquehanna would then run off 11 straight points to take a 13-6 lead on a Patch jumper with 13:20 to go in the first half.
Fran Brzyski would give the Crusaders their largest lead of the first half, ten points at 23-13, with 9:11 to play. The Greyhounds then ran off eight straight points to pull within a pair at 23-21 after a three-pointer from sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso with 5:39 until the inter mission. Cosgrove hit a free throw with 3:31 to play to push Susquehanna’s lead back to seven points at 28-21. Moravian freshman guard Sergio Camacho hit a pair of free throws just before halftime to send the teams to the locker room with Susquehanna leading 32-27.
Moravian struggled shooting the ball in the first half, making just eight of 31 field goal attempts (25.8 percent), two of seven three-pointers and nine of 13 free throws in the first 20 minutes. The Greyhounds had just seven turnovers while forcing the Crusaders into ten turnovers. Susquehanna had a hot hand in the first half, making 13 of 27 field goal attempts (48.1 percent), one of five three-pointers and five of seven free throws. The Crusaders had a 22-19 edge in rebounds at halftime.
Matt McDevitt opened the second half with a jumper for Susquehanna but Moravian scored the next five to pull within two points, 34-32, on a three-pointer from sophomore forward Chris Cullen with 18:46 to go. Greyhound junior forward Eric Weaver’s jumper at 17:58 had Moravian again within two points, 36-34, before Susquehanna would take control.
The Crusaders scored six straight points with Patch giving Susquehanna a 42-34 lead with 16:33 remaining, and Patch would put the lead into double digits, 51-40, at the 12:03 mark. The last time Moravian had the lead down under ten points was with 6:45 to play on a lay-up from freshman guard/forward Nelson Leon. Spencer would give Susquehanna its largest lead of 16 points, 71-55, with 1:36 to play with the Crusaders’ final points of the game.
Moravian shot the ball better in the second half, making 13 of 30 field goal attempts (43.3 percent), three of 13 three-pointers and one of two free throws in the final 20 minutes. Susquehanna improved its field goal percentage in the second half, making 18 of 34 field goal attempts (52.1 percent) after the break to go with one-for-four on three-pointers and two-for-two at the foul line. The Crusaders had a 46-29 advantage in rebounds for the game while Moravian had 12 turnovers to 16 for Susquehanna.
Young and Leon led the Greyhounds with 12 points apiece. Young also had five rebounds while Leon grabbed six boards. Rigoglioso, Cullen and Weaver each scored eight points for Moravian with Weaver adding seven rebounds and three assists. Camacho tossed in five points.
Spencer had 14 points and five rebounds for Susquehanna while Cosgrove added 11 points and four boards. Brzyski tossed in eight points and added six rebounds while McDevitt had eight points, six boards and four assists. Junior forward Eric Weaver tossed in a game high 25 points including a 13-for-16 performance at the foul line to lead Moravian to a 77-67 Landmark Conference victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Johnston Hall.
The victory is the second straight for the Greyhounds and lifts the team’s record to 7-10 overall and 3-4 in Landmark Conference action while the Mariners fall to 10-8 overall and 5-2 in conference play with their second straight loss.
Merchant Marine scored quickly on a lay-up from junior center Max Paul just 12 seconds into the game, and the Mariners would hold an 11-6 lead at the 15:09 mark after another Paul lay-up. The Greyhounds ran off five straight points to tie the contest at 11-11 on a pair of free throws from sophomore forward Chris Cullen with 13:46 left in the half. The lead would changes hands six times for the next seven minutes before USMMA built a 23-19 lead on a pair of free throws from sophomore forward Tom Izzo.
Moravian would tie the contest for the fifth time at 25-25 on a three-pointer from sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso at the 5:05 mark. Neither team could pull ahead by more than three-points before Merchant Marine senior guard Pat Grace sent the teams to the locker room with a 30-foot three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Mariners a 35-33 halftime edge.
USMMA was hot from the floor in the first half, making 14 of 24 field goal attempts (58.3 percent), three of seven three-pointers and four of seven free throws in the first 20 minutes. The Mariners also had a 15-13 edge in rebounds but Merchant Marine had 13 turnovers in the first half to only nine for Moravian. The Greyhounds connected on ten of 23 field goal attempts (43.5 percent), four of seven three-pointers and nine of 13 free throws in the first 20 minutes.
Weaver tied the game for the Greyhounds on the first possession of the half but Moravian was unable to take the lead. The game was either tied or the Mariners had a lead until the 12:24 mark when Greyhound senior forward Dave Bowden connected on a three-pointer to lift Moravian to a 47-46 lead. USMMA would retake the lead and push it to four points on three occasions, the final time at 61-57 with 4:44 to play on a Grace three-pointer.
From that point, Moravian finished the contest on a 20-6 run, and the Greyhounds would take the lead for good on a three-pointer from Cullen that capped a 7-0 run to build a 64-61 lead with 2:46 to go. Weaver was four-for-six at the foul line in the final 39 seconds to help seal the victory.
Moravian made 11 of 23 field goal attempts (47.8 percent), five of 12 three-pointers and 17 of 23 free throws in the second half, and the Greyhounds finished the contest with a 34-27 edge in rebounds. Moravian had just six turnovers in the final 20 minutes to finish with 15 for the game. Merchant Marine’s scoring cooled off in the second half, making just 12 of 31 field goal attempts and four of 13 three-pointers. USMMA was perfect at the foul line in the final 20 minutes but attempted just four free throws to Moravian’s 23.
Weaver had six rebounds to go with his 25 points while sophomore guard Maurice Young tossed in 14 points to go with four rebounds. Rigoglioso had 12 points in the game including ten in the first half while Cullen finished with nine points and a team high nine rebounds for the Greyhounds. Freshman guard Sergio Camacho tossed in eight points in the Moravian win.
Merchant Marine had four players in double figures led by Paul’s 16 points, and he had five rebounds and three blocked shots. Izzo contributed 11 points, four rebounds and five steals while junior guard Ryan Samuel and sophomore forward Matt Hueber each had ten points. Hueber added four rebounds and four assists while Samuel had three boards and three assists. Grace finished with nine points, three assists and three boards for the Mariners.

Junior forward Eric Weaver and sophomore guard Maurice Young combined to go eight-for-ten at the foul line in the final minute to help Moravian hold off Drew University for a 68-61 victory in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall.
The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Greyhounds and improves the team’s record to 6-10 overall and 2-4 in Landmark Conference action. Drew falls to 4-12 on the year and is also 2-4 in conference play.
Moravian took a 3-0 lead on a three-pointer from sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso on the first possession of the contest. Drew opened the game with four straight three-pointers with a pair from senior guard Gerard Mullin to give the Rangers a 12-10 lead with 11:03 left in the half. Drew pushed its lead to 19-12 at the 7:0 mark on another Mullin three-pointer.
The Greyhounds responded with an 8-0 run to take a 20-19 lead with 5:36 remaining on a pair of Young free throws. Drew retook the lead on a three-pointer from sophomore forward Kyle Joyce 30 seconds later. Moravian would get the lead once more in the half at 25-24 on a lay-up from junior forward Joseph Munley with 1:36 until the intermission but the Greyhounds wouldn’t score again. Junior guard Jared Coleman connected on a lay-up to send Drew to the locker room with a 26-25 halftime lead.
Both teams struggled shooting the ball in the first 20 minutes. Moravian was just six-for-23 from the field (26.1 percent) and four of 14 on three-pointers; however, the Greyhounds were nine-for-ten at the foul line. Moravian had an 18-16 edge on the boards in the first half while both teams had eight turnovers. Drew shot the ball a little better, making ten of 27 field goal attempts (37 percent) and six of 15 three-pointers. The Rangers did not get to the foul line in the first half.
Mullin hit a three-pointer to open the second half and give Drew a 29-25 lead; however, Moravian went on an 11-3 run, taking the lead for good on a Young jumper with 16:44 remaining. Moravian suffered its fourth straight Landmark Conference loss, falling to Goucher College, 76-53, as the Greyhounds had their worst shooting night of the season. Moravian falls to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in Landmark Conference action with the defeat while the Gophers improve to 3-11 overall and 1-4 conference action.
Goucher jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first 2:44 of the game and the score would remain that way until the Greyhounds scored their first points of the game on a three-pointer from sophomore forward Chris Cullen at the 11:41 mark. The Gophers lead would hit double digits with 9:10 left in the first half when sophomore forward Marcus Cotton made it a 15-5 game. Goucher would head to the locker room with a 32-12 halftime lead, the fewest point the Gophers have ever allowed in a half of basketball.
Moravian was just four of 26 (15.4 percent) from the floor, one of eight on three-pointers and three of four at the foul line in the first 20 minutes of the game. Meanwhile, Goucher was 11 of 22 from the floor, one of four on three-pointers and nine-for-18 at the foul line. The Gophers also had a 23-14 edge in rebounds in the first 20 minutes while committing nine turnovers. The Greyhounds had 12 turnovers in the first half.
Goucher extended its halftime lead to 49-19 just under seven minutes into the second half, and the Gophers would hold their largest advantage of 31 points, 54-34, with 9:20 to play in the game. The Catholic University of America men’s basketball team used an early 18-0 run to build a 16-point lead in a 74-60 Landmark Conference victory over Moravian at the DuFour Center.
The win lifts the Cardinals to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in Landmark Conference action while the Greyhounds dropped their third straight game to fall to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Moravian would hold an early lead with sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso giving the Greyhounds a 2-0 edge two minutes into the game. However, Moravian would not score again until 11:34 remained in the first half, and by that time, Catholic had built an 18-2 lead. The Greyhounds would get back within six points at 31-25 with ten seconds remaining in the first half on a three-point play by sophomore guard Maurice Young but the Cardinals would hit the final shot of the half to head to the locker room with a 34-25 lead.
Catholic was 15 of 30 from the floor, three-for-nine on three-pointers and made its only free throw in the first 20 minutes. Moravian on the other hand struggled shooting the ball, making just nine of 31 field goal attempts (29.0 percent) and two of nine three-pointers in the first 20 minutes. The Greyhounds were five-for-five at the foul line.
In the second half, the closest Moravian would get would be seven points on several occasions while Catholic would lead by as many as 19 points, 70-51, with 3:05 to go. The Cardinals continued to shoot the ball well in the second half, making 11 of 20 field goal attempts (55.0 percent) and two of three three-pointers in the final 20 minutes. Moravian scored first on a three-pointer from sophomore forward Chris Cullen, but the Greyhounds trailed 7-5 after a jumper from Crusader freshman guard Spenser Spencer at the 14:00 mark. Moravian then went on an 18-2 run over the next six and a half minutes to take a 23-9 lead with 7:32 remaining in the first half after a lay-up from junior forward Joseph Munley.
The Greyhounds’ lead would hit 16 points, 34-18 with 3:16 until the intermission after a lay-up from junior forward Eric Weaver. Moravian headed to the locker room with a 38-26 lead after shooting 14-for-29 from the field (48.3 percent) in the first 20 minutes. The Greyhounds were also seven-for-12 on three-pointers and three-for-four at the foul line. Moravian had just six turnovers in the first half while forcing Susquehanna into ten turnovers. The Crusaders were cold in the first half, making just nine of 30 field goal attempts, two of nine three-pointers and a perfect six-for-six at the foul line. Moravian tried to rally from a 15-point second half deficit but came up short in a 69-68 loss to Juniata College in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall.
The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for Moravian and drops the squad to 5-7 overall and 1-1 in Landmark Conference action while the Eagles snap a four-game losing streak to improve to 3-10 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Moravian trailed 46-31 with 15:17 to play but pulled within one point on three occasions with freshman guard Sergio Camacho having a three-point attempt to win the game at the buzzer but the shot was wide and bounced off of the rim.
Juniata seemed to be in control from the start with junior guard Jeff Berkey scoring on the first possession of the game. The Eagles led 7-0 before Moravian got on the scoreboard on a three-pointer from sophomore guard Maurice Young at the 17:06 mark. The Greyhounds would close within a point at 9-8 with 14:42 to go in the first half on a pair of Camacho free throws only to see Juniata score six straight points to take a 15-8 lead with 12:29 to go on a lay-up from senior guard/forward David Thompson.
Moravian ran off the eight straight points to tie the contest at 15-15 on a lay-up on from sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso with 11 minutes to go in the first half. However, Juniata finished the half with a 25-12 run to head to the locker room with a 40-27 lead after a three-pointer from Berkey at the buzzer.

The Greyhounds pulled within a point at 56-55 with 4:46 to play on a three-point play from sophomore forward Chris Cullen only to see the Eagles push the lead back to six points twice, the final time on a pair of Berkey free throws with 1:24 remaining for a 65-59 Juniata lead. Moravian cut the lead back to one point again, 69-68, on a Camacho three-pointer with eight seconds remaining. The Greyhounds fouled Berkey, and he missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw attempt with 4.7 seconds remaining. Moravian junior forward Eric Weaver rebounded the ball and got it to Camacho, who dribbled down to the top of the key and fired off a three-pointer for the win but the ball bounced off the rim. Young tried to put the ball back up but his shot came after the buzzer.
Both teams shot the ball very well in the second half. Moravian was 16 of 30 (53.3 percent) from the floor, six of 15 on three-pointers and three-for-six at the foul line. The Greyhounds had just four second half turnovers while Juniata made 12 turnovers in the final 20 minutes. Vs. Muhlenberg College in 31st Annual Greyhound Starters Classic Championship Game - Won 72-65 - Boxscore
Sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso tossed in a career high 23 points including six three-pointers and was named the Most Valuable Player of the 31st Annual Greyhound Starters Classic while leading the host Moravian to a 72-65 victory over rival Muhlenberg College in the championship game in Johnston Hall.
The victory improves Moravian’s record to 5-6 on the season and gave the Greyhounds their 14th title in the 31-year history of the tournament. The Mules falls to 5-3 on the year with the loss.
The Greyhounds opened the scoring with Rigoglioso’s first three-pointer just 11 seconds into the game, and Moravian would hold that lead the entire contest. The Greyhounds built a quick 14-point lead, 16-2, after Rigoglioso’s fourth three-pointer of the contest at the 15:50 mark. The Mules responded with a 10-0 run to pull within 16-12 on a dunk from freshman forward Spencer Liddic with 13:06 remaining in the first half.
Moravian pushed its lead back to double digits on a lay-up by sophomore forward Chris Cullen at the 7:57 mark, and the Greyhounds would get their 14-point lead back at 29-15 after a pair of Cullen free throws with 6:10 to go in the half. The Mules finished the half with a 19-9 run to pull within 38-34 at halftime after a three-pointer by senior guard Darrell Roth just before the buzzer.
The Greyhounds were ten-for-27 from the floor (37.0 percent) from the floor, six-for-15 behind the three-point line and 12 of 14 at the foul line in the first 20 minutes of the game. Moravian also had an 18-15 edge in rebounds while committing eight first half turnovers. Muhlenberg was 12 of 25 from the floor (48.0 percent), five of ten on three-pointers and five of seven on free throws through the first 20 minutes. The Mules made nine first half turnovers.
Muhlenberg senior guard Chris MacIntosh hit a pair of free throws to open the second half to pull the Mules within two points, 38-36, but Muhlenberg wouldn’t be able to get any closer. Rigoglioso would give Moravian another double-digit lead, 46-36, with 15:45 remaining on another three-pointer. Muhlenberg closed within two points again at the 3:38 mark after a Roth jumper cut Moravian’s lead to 60-58. The Greyhounds answered with a 7-0 run fueled by a three-pointer from Cullen to take a 67-58 lead with 1:28 to play.
Both teams struggled shooting the ball in the second half. Moravian was nine-for-28 from the floor (32.1 percent), four of 11 on three-pointers and 12 of 20 at the foul line. However, Moravian finished the contest with a 40-35 edge in rebounds and had just three second half turnovers. Muhlenberg made nine of 26 second half field goal attempts (34.6 percent), two of nine three-pointers and 11 of 14 free throws. The Mules also had just three second half turnovers.
Rigoglioso’s 23 points marked the third straight game he has set a new career high, and he led three Moravian players in double figures. Cullen tossed in a career high 17 points to go with six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots while junior forward Eric Weaver, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, had 11 points and four rebounds.
Sophomore guard Maurice Young tossed in eight points with three assists while freshman guard Sergio Camacho had five points and two boards. Senior forward Dave Bowden grabbed a game and career high 13 rebounds off of the bench for the Greyhounds to go with three points and three assists while junior forward Joseph Munley had three rebounds and two points for Moravian.
Roth earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team while leading Muhlenberg with 18 points and a pair of rebounds. Sophomore guard Evan Tozer was also named to the All-Tournament Team after scoring 13 points and adding three rebounds and two assists. Liddic had nine points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots for the Mules while MacIntosh had seven points.
Junior center Peter Barnes had six rebounds, five points and three blocked shots for Muhlenberg while junior guard Brian Frankoski had eight assists, six points and two boards. Junior guard/forward Ryan Foster had dive points and six rebound for the Mules.
Junior guard Marcus Little from Misericordia University and freshman guard Brenden Straughn from Hood College rounded out the All-Tournament Team as Misericordia won the consolation game 76-58.

Vs. Misericordia University in 31st Annual Greyhound Starters Classic - Won 85-74 - Boxscore
Moravian used a balanced scoring attack with five players in double figures including a career high 17 points from freshman guard/forward Nelson Leon to rally from an early seven-point deficit to an 85-74 victory over Misericordia University in the first round of the 31st Annual Greyhound Starters Classic in Johnston Hall.
The Greyhounds snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory and advanced to the championship game for the 24th time in the 31-year history of the tournament. Moravian is now 4-6 on the season and will be looking for its 14th tournament title when it takes on rival Muhlenberg College in the championship game after the Mules defeated Hood College, 77-68, in the other first round game. Misericordia falls to 6-4 with the loss.
The Cougars scored first on a lay-up from sophomore guard Robbie Johnson, and Misericordia led 7-0 at the 17:00 minute mark after a three-pointer from junior forward Dom Del Prete. Moravian finally got on the scoreboard with a lay-up from sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso with 16:39 on the clock, but the Greyhounds still trailed by seven points, 14-7, after a pair of Del Prete free throws at the 14:41 mark. Moravian then ran off seven straight points, tying the contest at 14-14 on a Rigoglioso three-pointer with 12:09 until the intermission
The Greyhounds would get their first lead of the game on a lay-up from junior forward Joseph Munley at the 6:16 mark, putting Moravian up 25-23. However, the lead was short lived after Del Prete tied the game 14 seconds later on a pair of free throws after a technical foul on Moravian sophomore guard Maurice Young that gave Young four fouls in the contest. The Greyhounds would eventually get the lead back and headed to the locker room with a 36-32 advantage after a three-pointer from Leon in the corner as the clock expired.
Moravian made 15 of 34 field goal attempts (44.1 percent) in the first 20 minutes, and the Greyhounds were five-for-16 on three-pointers and made their only free throw attempt. Moravian also had a 20-17 edge in rebounds while the teams combined for 21 turnovers, ten by the Greyhounds. The Cougars were just nine for 26 from the floor and three of eight on three-pointers in the first 20 minutes; however, Misericordia connected on 11 of 12 free throws.
The Cougars scored the first seven points of the second half to build a 39-36 lead after a pair of free throws from junior guard Marcus Little at the 17:51 mark. The teams would trade the lead and have the contest tied six times over the next ten minutes before Moravian eventually retook the lead for good on a jumper in the lane from junior forward Eric Weaver to give the Greyhounds a 58-57 lead with 7:22 to go.
Sophomore forward Chris Cullen would hit a three-pointer at the 6:14 mark to give Moravian a 63-59 lead, and from that point on, the Greyhounds had just two field goals, lay-ups from Young and freshman guard Sergio Camacho, but the team connected on 18 of 21 free throw attempts to seal the victory.
Moravian was 11 of 26 from the floor (42.3 percent) in the final 20 minutes, and the Greyhounds connected on five of 12 three-pointers and 22 of 26 free throw attempts in the second half. Moravian also finished with a 35-32 edge in rebounds and also had just two second half turnovers. The Cougars shot better in the second half, making 13 of 26 field goal attempts and 16 of 18 free throws.
Leon’s 17 points, the first double-digit performance of his career, led five Greyhounds in double figures, and Leon added four rebounds. Weaver also tossed in 17 points for Moravian to go with a game high nine rebounds while Rigoglioso netted a career high 16 points. Camacho scored 11 points with three rebounds while Young had ten points, four assists and three rebounds.
Freshman guard Shane Painter tossed in five points off of the Moravian bench while Munley finished with four points, two boards and a pair of steals. Cullen added three points while freshman forward Jeff Cullinan had two points and two rebounds.
Del Prete led four Misericordia players in double figures with a game high 21 points to go with seven rebounds. Johnson tossed in 19 points while senior forward Vinny Baumunk and Little each scored 14 points. Baumunk added six rebounds for the Cougars.

At Muhlenberg College - Lost 69-54 - Boxscore
The Muhlenberg College men’s basketball team used a 23-7 run over the final 9:46 to earn a 69-54 non-conference victory over rival Moravian College Monday evening in Memorial Hall.
The Mules improve to 4-2 overall with the win while the Greyhounds drop to 3-6 on the season with their second straight loss and the team’s final game before the holiday break.
Muhlenberg jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a pair of baskets from junior center Peter Barnes before the Greyhound scored on a free throw from sophomore guard Maurice Young at the 16:57 mark. That was Moravian’s only point until the Mules had built a 12-1 lead. Sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso made a pair of free throws to set the score at 12-3 with 15:27 to go in the first half, and Rigoglioso would eventually score Moravian’s first field goal of the contest, a three-pointer at the 13:31 mark to set the score at 14-6.
The Mules pushed their lead to 13 points at 19-6 after a lay-up from junior forward Obi Nwizugbo with 10:23 left in the half; however, Muhlenberg would score just six points the rest of the half. The Mules final bucket of the half was a lay-up from junior guard/forward Ryan Foster at the 3:22 mark to keep the Muhlenberg lead at five points, 25-20. Moravian scored the final seven points of the half with Rigoglioso tying the game at 25-25 with a three-pointer with 1:17 remaining before sophomore forward Alvin Adams gave the Greyhounds their first lead of the contest at 27-25 with 35 seconds to play until halftime.
The teams headed at the same score, and neither team shot the ball particularly well in the first 20 minutes of the contest. Moravian was just eight-for-29 from the floor (27.6 percent), four-for-ten on three-pointers and seven-for-12 at the foul line. Muhlenberg shot a little better at 34.4 percent (11 of 32 on field goal attempts, but the Mules were three-for-ten on three-pointers and missed all three of the free throw attempts. The Mules did have a 28-18 edge in rebounds in the first half while Moravian committed just four turnovers to nine for the Mules.
Moravian came out of the locker room and would build a five-point lead after a three-point play from junior forward Eric Weaver to put the Greyhound lead at 32-27 with 17:04 on the clock. The Mules answered with a 7-0 capped by a three-pointer from sophomore guard Evan Tozer to take a 34-32 lead at the 16 minute mark.
Muhlenberg eventually pushed its lead back to five points, at 41-36 after a Banes lay-up with 13:10 to play. However, Moravian would counter with a three-pointer from freshman guard Sergio Camacho and a pair of three-pointers by freshman guard Shane Painter to take a 45-44 lead with 10:33 remaining. The Greyhounds would have the lead twice more, the final time at 50-48 after a three-pointer by sophomore forward Chris Cullen with 9:17 to play. Moravian settled for just a lay-up and a pair of free throws from Weaver in the final nine minutes while Muhlenberg scored 21 points.
The Mules heated up in the second half, making 15 of 28 field goal attempts (53.6 percent), and Muhlenberg added two of five three-pointers and 12 of 15 free throws in the final 20 minutes. The Mules had a 48-31 edge in rebounds for the game. Moravian continued to struggle shooting the ball, making nine of 26 second half field goal attempts (34.6 percent), four of 16 three-pointers and just five of eight free throws. The Greyhounds also committed nine second half turnovers to five for the Mules.
Barnes led Muhlenberg with a game high 21 points to go along with nine rebounds. Tozer tossed in 17 points while Foster had ten points and five boards. Freshman forward Spencer Liddic had seven points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots for the Mules while junior guard Brian Frankoski had five points and four assists. Senior guard Chris MacIntosh had a game high five assists with three rebounds and two points.
Weaver led the Greyhounds with 14 points and five rebounds while Rigoglioso had 11 points, all in the first half, and four boards. Painter had eight points and a pair of steals off of the Moravian bench while Young had seven points and a team high seven rebounds. Junior guard Vinnie Darpino scored eight of his game-high 15 points during a decisive 16-2 run on the second half, and he hit the winning shot with 1:32 left in the contest to lead Kean University to a 60-58 come-from-behind win at Moravian in non-conference action.
The win lifts the Cougars to 4-5 on the year while Moravian sees its two-game winning streak snapped while falling to 3-5 on the season.
The Greyhounds scored first on a jumper from sophomore guard Maurice Young, and after just a brief tie at 2-2, Moravian would run out to a 10-4 lead on a trio of free throws from freshman guard Sergio Camacho at the 14:04 mark. Kean answered with a 7-0 run started by Darpino’s first bucket of the game to take its first lead of the game at 11-10 with 10:18 to play in the first half.
Moravian took the lead back on a jumper by freshman guard/forward Nelson Leon only to see the Cougars go on a 13-2 run to take a 24-14 lead, the first double digit lead of the game, with 4:32 until the intermission. The Greyhounds answered back with a 9-2 run to cut the Kean lead to 26-23 on a pair of free throws from junior forward Eric Weaver at the 1:15 mark.
The teams headed to the locker room with Kean leading 28-23 after the Cougars shot 13 of 24 from the floor (54.2 percent) and two of three on three-pointers in the first 20 minutes. Moravian was just seven of 25 from the field (28 percent) and two-for-13 behind the three-point line in the first half. The Greyhounds were a perfect nine-for-nine at the foul line in the first 20 minutes while Kean didn’t attempt a free throw. Moravian had a 16-13 edge on the rebounds; however, Moravian had 13 turnovers while the Cougars committed 12 turnovers in the first half.
Sophomore forward Chris Cullen tossed in a three-pointer to start the second half for the Greyhounds to tie the game at 28-28. Kean would lead 32-30 with 16:31 remaining after a jumper in the paint from freshman guard Michael Oglesby. Moravian then went on a 15-2 run to build a 45-34 lead after a put back jumper from sophomore forward Alvin Adams with 11:16 remaining.
Moravian went cold at that point missing seven straight shot and committing two turnovers as Kean went on its 16-2 run to take the lead at 47-45 with 7:35 to go after a three-point play by Darpino. The Greyhounds tied the score at 47-47 on a pair of Young free throws before Kean ran out to a 56-51 lead after a jumper from sophomore forward Jonathan Jones. Moravian would tie the game at 58-58 with 2:05 remaining on a pair of Weaver free throws after a technical foul was called on Jones after blocking a lay-up attempt by Young.
Darpino would hitting a running lay-up in the lane with 1:32 to play to cap off the scoring. Young had a three-point attempt with four seconds remaining to win the game for Moravian but was short of the rim.
Moravian scored its final field goal with 4:24 remaining on a tip in by Weaver. The Greyhounds were five of six at the foul line from that point on; however, the team was zero-for-nine from the floor despite grabbing five offensive rebounds.
Kean’s shooting cooled in the second half as the Cougars made 14 of 35 field goal attempts (40 percent), one of four three-pointers and three-for-five free throws in the final 20 minutes. Moravian contributed to struggle from the field, making just eight of 35 field goals (22.9 percent) and three of 15 three-pointers in the second half. The free throw line would keep the Greyhounds in the contest as Moravian made 14 of 16 free throws in the second half, and the Greyhounds made and attempt 20 more free throws than Kean in the game. Moravian finished the contest with a 44-39 advantage on the boards while both teams had 19 turnovers for the game.
Darpino was one of two Kean players in double figures and he had three rebounds to go with his 15 points. Jones tossed in 14 points off of the bench to go with four rebounds and a pair of blocked shots for the Cougars. Junior forwards Rodlin Pierre and Brian Lytle each had eight points with Lytle grabbing six rebounds. Oglesby added five points and three blocked shots while senior guard Yasien Beatty had team highs of seven rebounds and five assists for Kean.
Moravian had a pair of players in double figures as well with Weaver and Camacho each tossing in 14 points. Weaver added a game high 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season, and he was ten-for-ten at the foul line and contributed three assists while Camacho made four steals. Sophomore guard Maurice Young scored a game high 19 points including the winning lay-up with 1:26 to lead Moravian to a 61-59 non-conference victory at Swarthmore College.
The win was the second straight for the Greyhounds to lift their record to 3-4 on the season, and it was Moravian’s first win of the year on the road. Swarthmore falls to 1-5 with the loss.
The Garnet led early at 11-6 with 14:25 to go after a dunk from Danny Walker after a steal. Moravian responded with a 25-9 run to take the largest lead of the game at 11 points, 31-20, after a three-pointer from freshman guard Sergio Camacho with 4:41 to go in the first half. The Greyhounds headed to the locker room with a 35-29 lead.
Moravian connected on ten of 29 field goal attempts (34.5 percent) in the first 20 minutes, but the Greyhounds were five-for-14 behind the three-point line and ten-for-13 at the foul line in the first half. Moravian also committed just six turnovers in the first half while forcing Swarthmore into 13 turnovers. The Garnet, who had a 21-15 advantage in rebounds in the first 20 minutes, were ten-for-23 from the floor, two-for-seven on three-pointers and seven-for-11 at the foul line.
Moravian held the lead through the first 12 and a half minutes of the second half with a lead as big as eight points and as small as one point until Swarthmore’s Michael Giannangeli tied the game at 50-50 with 7:24 to go on a fast break jumper. The bucket was part of an 8-0 run by the Garnet. Swarthmore would have a five-point lead, 57-52, after a three-pointer by Matt Allen with 4:47 to go, but the Moravian defense would allow just a pair of free throws to Swarthmore the rest of the way as the Greyhounds had a 9-2 run to finish the game.

Moravian rallied from a four-point second half deficit with a 16-2 run and junior forward Eric Weaver scored a game and career high 28 points to lead the Greyhounds to a 78-71 victory over the University of Scranton in the 2008-09 Landmark Conference opener for both squads in Johnston Hall. The game started 40 minutes late due to Scranton being caught in traffic due to weather conditions.
The Greyhounds snap a four-game losing streak with the victory to improve to 2-4 overall this season while Scranton falls to 4-3 on the year.
The first half went back-and-forth with neither team taking more than a five-point lead and ten ties. The Royals had the largest lead of the half, at five points twice, and Scranton headed to the locker room with a 38-36 lead. The first time Scranton hit a five-point lead was on a three-pointer from senior guard Ryan FitzPatrick at the 15:06 mark, and then again on a tip-in from senior forward Eli Londo at 14:22. Moravian's biggest lead of the first half was three points, 31-28, after a three-pointer by Weaver with 4:42 to play before halftime.
The Royals had a hot shooting hand in the first half, making 14 of 26 field goal attempts (53.8 percent), three of seven three-pointers and seven of ten free throws. Moravian connected on 11 of 25 shots from the floor (44 percent) in the first 20 minutes, and the Greyhounds were three of ten behind the three-point line and 11 of 12 at the foul line. Moravian had a slight 14-13 edge in rebounds in the first half while both teams committed seven turnovers.
Early in the second half, the lead would change hands six times before Scranton built a 47-43 lead on a three-pointer by FitzPatrick with 14:37 to go. Moravian answered with a 16-2 run, capped by a three-pointer from sophomore guard Maurice Young with 9:28 remaining to give the Greyhounds the first double-digit lead of the night at 59-49.

The foul line was key in the second half for Moravian as the Greyhounds connected on 20 of 24 free throws in the final 20 minutes, and Moravian was 31 of 36 at the foul line in the game while Scranton only attempts 20 free throws in the contest. The Greyhounds were ten-for-24 from the field (41.7 percent) and two-for-eight on three-pointers in the second half. Scranton made 11 of 27 second half field goal attempts along with three of 11 three-pointers and eight of ten free throws. At Arcadia University - Lost 75-59 - Boxscore
Damien Palantino and Khalief Trawick each scored 15 points to lead the Arcadia University men’s basketball team to a 75-59 non-conference victory over Moravian.
The Greyhounds would take an early 5-0 lead on a jumper from sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso and three-pointer by sophomore forward Chris Cullen at the 17:06 mark. The lead would trade hands five times and there would be five ties during the rest of the first half with Moravian’s final lead of the game, 21-19, coming after a pair of Rigoglioso free throws with 4:48 until the intermission.
The Knights finished the first half with an 11-4 run to head to the locker room with a 30-23 lead. Neither team shot the ball particularly well in the first 20 minutes. Arcadia made eight of 27 field goal attempts (29.6 percent), four of ten three-pointers and ten of 13 free throws in the first half, and the Knights had a 27-20 advantage in rebounds with ten turnovers. Moravian was eight-for-30 from the floor (26.9 percent), two of 14 on three-pointers and just five-for-ten at the foul line. The Greyhounds did limit themselves to eight turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
Moravian would pull within four points twice early in the second half, the final time at 34-30 after a lay-up from Cullen with 17:33 remaining. Arcadia would respond with a 7-0 run to push its lead to double digits, 41-30, on a lay-up by Trawick at the 15:50 mark. With the Greyhounds trailing by 15 points, 50-35, Moravian would put together a 15-3 run to pull within three points, 53-50, on a three-pointer by Cullen at the 6:05 mark, but the Greyhounds wouldn’t get any closer as the Knights eventually pushed their lead back into double digits.
Both teams shot the ball much better in the final 20 minutes. Moravian was 12-for-27 (44.4 percent) from the field, four-for-ten on three-pointers and eight-for-13 at the foul line while Arcadia made 16 of 35 field goal attempts (45.7 percent), one of four three-pointers and 12 of 20 free throw attempts. The Knights finished the game 53-40 edge on the boards.
In addition to Palantino and Trawick, Darren Mills tossed in 13 points and grabbed a game high ten rebounds for Arcadia. Palantino added eight boards and three assists while Trawick had four rebounds, four steals and three assists. Blaise Pepitone added ten points and four assists for the Knights while Dwayne Bradley had seven points, eight rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
Junior forward Eric Weaver led Moravian with 16 points and seven rebounds as a reserve while Cullen tossed in 14 points to go along with three rebounds. Rigoglioso added eight points while freshman forward Jeff Cullinan had seven points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Maurice Young tossed in six points for the Greyhounds while freshman guard Shane Painter added six points, three assists and three steals.

Vs. DeSales University - Lost 83-78 - Boxscore
The DeSales University men’s basketball team played four players in double figures led by 19 points from junior guard Darnell Braswell and held on despite letting a 20-point second half lead fall back to three points in an 83-78 non-conference win over local rival Moravian in Johnston Hall.
The Bulldogs improve to 3-0 on the season with the victory while the Greyhounds suffered their third consecutive loss to fall to 1-3 on the year. The three-point line was dominant in the game as DeSales made 13 of 23 three-pointers in the game while taking a total of 52 field goal attempts while Moravian was 14-for-33 from behind the three-point line while taking 67 shots.
The first half saw a pair of hot shooting teams and several lead changes. DeSales junior guard Rob Schubach would opening the scoring with the first of his five three-pointers in the game at the 18:32 mark while Moravian took its first lead, 8-6, on a three-pointer from sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso with 17:16 to play in the first half. The Bulldogs responded with a 9-0 run to take a 15-8 lead on a three-pointer from Braswell at the 14:22 mark. The Greyhounds countered with an 8-0 run of their own to retake the lead, 16-15, on a three-pointer from freshman guard Sergio Camacho, who scored all eight points during the Moravian run.
DeSales took a 20-16 lead on a three-pointer by freshman forward Bob Zanneo at the 10:43 mark, and the Bulldogs would lead by as many as eight points twice, the final time at 34-26 with five minutes to go in the first half. Moravian would put together a 9-0 run on a pair of Camacho three-pointers sandwiched around a three-pointer from sophomore guard Maurice Young to take a 35-34 lead with 49 seconds left in the half. DeSales would finish the half strong with a three-pointer from sophomore guard Eddie Ward and a lay-up at the buzzer from senior center Ed Lapinski to send the Bulldogs to the locker room with a 39-35 halftime lead.
DeSales was 14 of 27 from the floor (51.9 percent) and nine-for-15 behind the three-point line (60 percent) in the first 20 minutes of the game, and the Bulldogs made both of their free throw attempts. Moravian didn’t have as hot a hand in the first half, but the Greyhounds were still 13-for-30 from the floor (43.3 percent) and eight-for-19 on three-pointers (42.1 percent). Moravian made its only free throw attempt of the first half and had a 16-14 edge in rebounds. The Greyhounds had nine turnovers in the first half while DeSales had eight turnovers.
Schubach started the second half scoring again with a three-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 42-35 lead. Moravian would get within four points, 43-39, after a jumper from freshman guard/forward Nelson Leon at the 17:47 mark. The Greyhounds trailed 47-42 after a three-pointer from junior forward Eric Weaver with 16:24 to play when DeSales put together a 13-0 run to seemingly take control of the game with a 60-42 lead on a three-pointer from Braswell with 13:29 remaining.
The Bulldogs eventually pushed their lead to 20 points, 70-50, with 8:55 to go on a three-pointer from senior forward Matt Zwetolitz. However, that was DeSales last three-pointer of the game and other than two Braswell lay-ups, the Bulldogs only scored from the foul line the rest of the way. During that time, Moravian put together a 28-11 run to pull within three-points, 81-78, with just 23 seconds remaining after Young drilled a three-pointer after forcing Braswell to turn the ball over on Moravian’s press.
Braswell missed a pair of free throws to get the ball back in the Greyhounds’ hands still down by three but a three-pointer from the right corner from Moravian sophomore guard Ryan O’Donnell rattled in and out of the basket. Lapinski grabbed the rebound and Braswell would hit two free throws to seal the game.
DeSales actually shot the ball even better in the second half, making 14 of 25 field goal attempts (56 percent) and four of eight three-pointers. The Bulldogs struggled a bit from the foul line, making just 12 of 19 free throws in the final 20 minutes. Moravian cooled off a little in the second half, making 15 of 37 field goal attempts (40.5 percent), six of 14 three-pointers (42.9 percent) and seven of eight free throws. The Greyhounds finished the game with a 35-32 edge in rebounds and had just 15 turnovers while DeSales committed 16 turnovers in the game.
Braswell had eight rebounds and five assists to go with his 19 points while Schubach had 15 points, all on three-pointers, going five-for-six behind the arc. Sophomore guard Brian Hunter also netted 15 points for the Bulldogs to go with four assist and three rebounds while Lapinski had 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and a pair of blocked shots.
Zwetolitz had six points while junior guard Jim Malatesta tossed in dive points and grabbed five rebounds for DeSales. Zanneo also had five points.
Camacho led the Greyhounds with a career high 19 points while shooting seven-for-11 from the floor and five-for-seven on three-pointers. Young tossed in 15 points with three assists, three rebounds and three steals while Weaver scored 11 points and grabbed three boards. Rigoglioso had eight points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals for Moravian while Leon and freshman forward Jeff Cullinan each had seven points with Leon adding four rebounds.
Sophomore forward Chris Cullen had six points and three rebounds for the Greyhounds while sophomore forward Alvin Adams grabbed three rebounds and blocked a pair of shots. Junior forward Joseph Munley had three points and three rebounds while senior forward Dave Bowden grabbed three rebounds for Moravian.

Vs. SUNY Brockport in Consolation Game at 18th Blue Jay Invitational hosted by Johns Hopkins University - Lost 93-63 - Boxscore
Cantrel Parrish led five players in double figures with a game high 19 points as SUNY Brockport defeated Moravian, 93-63, in the consolation game of the Blue Jay Invitational hosted by Johns Hopkins University.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead with Parrish hitting a lay-up to finish the run at 18:56. Moravian would get its first points of the game on a jumper from sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso hit a jumper with 17:52 remaining in the first half. The closest the Greyhounds would get the remainder of the game was three-points, 12-9, on a jumper from junior forward Eric Weaver with 15:34 to go. Brockport put together a 7-0 run to get the lead into double figures for the first time with Brandon Williams hitting a pair of free throws at13:54 for a 19-9 lead.
Brockport would build a 17-point advantage, 40-23, on a three-point play by Jermaine Johnson with 1:44 to go in the half. The Golden Eagles headed to the locker room with a 42-25 halftime lead after shooting 16 of 40 from the floor, two-for-five on three-pointers and eight of ten at the foul line in the first half. Meanwhile, Moravian struggled shooting the ball in the first 20 minutes, making just nine of 31 field goal attempts (29.0 percent) and seven of 11 free throws. The Greyhounds missed all nine of their first half three-point attempts, and Moravian had 18 turnovers in the first half to 12 for Brockport. Moravian did hold a 26-24 edge in rebounds at the intermission.
The Golden Eagles would push their lead to 26 points, 53-27, early in the second half on a lay-up from Joe Clarke. Brockport led 62-38 with 11:58 remaining after a Parrish tip-in, when Moravian put together an 8-0 run capped off by a three-pointer from freshman guard Shane Painter to pull the Greyhounds within 62-46 with 10:45 remaining. Brockport’s largest lead of the night, 33 points, 90-57, came with 1:07 to go on a lay-up from Josh Zenkel.
The Golden Eagles shot the ball even better in the second half, making 18 of 35 field goal attempts (51.4 percent), four of six three-pointers and 11 of 16 free throws. Brockport also limited itself to seven turnovers in the second half while forcing the Greyhounds into 16 turnovers after the intermission. Moravian shot the ball a little better in the final 20 minutes, connecting on nine of 25 field goal attempts (36.0 percent), four of 11 three-pointers and 16 of 21 free throws. The Greyhounds did finish the game with a 47-43 edge in rebounds.
Parrish earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team after adding eight rebounds to his game-high 19 points. Clarke and Johnson each contributed 11 points, four rebounds and two assists while Mychal Wilkes and Eamon Keys each netted ten points for Brockport. Wilkes had four assists, three rebounds and three steals while Keys added seven rebounds and three steals. Bobby Brooks had six points and three rebounds for the Golden Eagles while Ian Mack contributed five rebounds, four assists, three steals and two points. Gerald Williams had five points while Shawn Harris and Brandon Williams each tossed in four points.
Sophomore guard Maurice Young led Moravian with 13 points, three assists and two steals while sophomore forward Chris Cullen had ten points. Sophomore forward Alvin Adams grabbed a career high 11 rebounds to go with six points and two steals while earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Junior forward Joseph Munley had nine rebounds and two assists for Moravian while Rigoglioso had seven points and four rebounds.
Painter, freshman guard Sergio Camacho and sophomore guard Ryan O’Donnell each contributed five points for the Greyhounds while Weaver and freshman forward Nelson Leon each added five rebounds and two points.

At Johns Hopkins University in 18th Blue Jay Invitational - Lost 86-61 - Boxscore
Forward Andrew Faber-Miller scored a game high 20 points on eight-of-11 shooting from the floor and a perfect four-for-four at the foul line to lead Johns Hopkins University to an 86-61 victory over Moravian College in the first round of the Blue Jay Invitational.
The Greyhounds will play SUNY Brockport in the consolation game while the Blue Jays will take on Whitworth University, an 83-67 winner in the other first round game, for the championship.
The Blue Jays jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a basket by Scott Weisenfeld at the 19:27 mark. Moravian would tie the game 22 seconds later on a jumper by junior forward Eric Weaver. Johns Hopkins put together a 6-0 run to build an 8-2 lead with 16:32 to go in the first half on a lay-up from Faber-Miller. The Blue Jays would extend the run out to an 18-6 lead at the 12:26 mark on a three-pointer from Leland O’Connor as Johns Hopkins connected on its first eight shots of the game including a pair of three-pointers.
The Blue Jays had a 20-8 advantage with 9:14 left on the first half clock after a basket from John Alberici when Moravian put together a 15-2 run over a span of three and a half minutes to take its first lead of the game, 23-22, on a Weaver jumper with 5:44 until the intermission. The teams would trade the lead six times before the Greyhounds built a 31-28 lead on a jumper from sophomore forward Alvin Adams at the 2:24 mark. Johns Hopkins then finished the half with an 8-1 run to head to the locker room with a 36-32 lead.
Moravian was just 11-of-23 from the floor (47.8 percent), one-for-six on three-pointers and nine-for-ten at the foul line in the first 20 minutes, and Moravian had ten turnovers. Johns Hopkins connected on 15-of-21 field goal attempts (71.4 percent) in the first half to go with a two-for-three performance behind the three-point line and a four-for-five half at the foul line. The Blue Jays had an 11-8 edge in rebounds despite making 11 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
Johns Hopkins opened the second half with a lay-up from Faber-Miller while Moravian countered with a pair of free throws from Weaver. The Blue Jays then went on a 12-0 run to build a 50-34 lead on a dunk from Adam Baumgartner with 16:10 remaining. Moravian freshman guard Sergio Camacho hit a pair of free throws with 15:56 to go to stop the run only to see Johns Hopkins put together a 9-3 run to build its first 20-point lead, 59-39, with 13:26 left in the second half on a jumper from Mike Henrici.
The Blue Jays would keep the lead above 20 points the rest of the game while shooting 17-for-29 from the floor (58.6 percent), two-of-four on three-pointers and 14-for-20 at the foul line in the second half. Johns Hopkins also committed just six turnovers in the second half and finished the game with a 32-29 advantage in rebounds. Moravian was just seven-for-25 from the field, two-for-eight on three-pointers and 13-for-20 at the foul line in the final 20 minutes, and the Greyhounds had 12 second half turnovers.
Faber-Miller added four rebounds and two steals for Johns Hopkins while Collin Kamm contributed 11 points and three assists. Henrici also netted 11 points to go with three steals while Weisenfeld had eight points for the Blue Jays. Pat O’Connell contributed seven points and a game high eight assists while O’Connor had eight points and two steals. Tim McCarty had five points and four boards while Phil Beggans added four points and four rebounds for Johns Hopkins.
Camacho led the Greyhounds with 16 points while Weaver tossed in 12 points. Sophomore guard Maurice Young contributed nine points, four rebounds and a pair of steals for Moravian while Adams had eight rebounds, four points and two blocked shots. Sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso added five points while sophomore forward Chris Cullen had five points and three rebounds. Freshman forward Chris Cullinan scored six points and grabbed two rebounds off the bench late in the game for the Greyhounds.

Vs. Lebanon Valley College - Won 68-63 - Boxscore
Junior forward Eric Weaver scored a career high 24 points and was nine-for-ten from the floor and four-for-four on three-pointers to lead the Moravian College men’s basketball team to a 68-63 season opening non-conference win over Lebanon Valley College in Johnston Hall.
The Greyhounds and Flying Dutchmen combined to honor Todd Rothrock, a former Moravian assistant coach and Lebanon Valley player, before the game. Rothrock passed away this past summer after seven years as the head coach at Liberty High School.
Lebanon Valley would score first on a three-pointer by senior guard Dan Hodge just five seconds into the game, but it would be the Flying Dutchmen’s only lead of the contest. Moravian scored the next eight points with three-pointers by sophomore guard Maurice Young and sophomore forward Chris Cullen sandwiched around a Weaver lay-up after a steal.
The Greyhounds would push their lead to double digits for the first time in the game at the 11:11 mark of the first half when Young scored on a fast break lay-up to build a 26-15 advantage. Moravian’s lead eventually reached 14 points, 37-23, with 5:16 to go on a put back bucket by junior forward Joseph Munley.
Moravian went to the locker room at halftime with a 43-30 lead after a hot shooting first 20 minutes. The Greyhounds were 18 of 35 from the floor (51.4 percent) and 7-for-17 on three-pointers (41.2 percent) while committing just six turnovers and holding a 17-13 edge in rebounds. The Flying Dutchmen also shot 50 percent in the first half, making 11 of 22 field goal attempts. Lebanon Valley, which had 12 first half turnovers, was three-of-eight on three-pointers (37.5 percent) and five-for-nine (55.6 percent) at the foul line in the first half.
The Flying Dutchmen netted the first six points of the second half to pull within 43-36 on a lay-up by sophomore guard Sean MacIntosh with 18:05 to play. However, Weaver would hit a three-pointer at the 15:58 mark to push Moravian’s lead back to double digits.
Lebanon Valley would slowly pull its way back into the game and bring the deficit down to five points, 51-46, on a jumper by senior guard Kyle Enoch with 10:57 to go. But Moravian would answer again with an 8-2 run to build a 59-47 lead with 7:47 to go on a Weaver lay-up.
The Greyhounds had their final double-digit lead of the contest at the 4:49 mark on a three-pointer by Young; however, MacIntosh answered with a fast break lay-up to put the lead in single digits for the remainder of the game ten seconds later. Moravian’s lead was down to five points, 64-59, when the Greyhounds would get to the foul line for the first time in the game with 1:15 to play. Weaver sank both free throws for his final points of the game and give Moravian a 66-59 lead. Young would ice the Greyhound victory with two free throws in the final 16 seconds after being fouled twice.
Both teams cooled off in the second half. Moravian was just 9-for-29 (31.0 percent) from the floor and 3-for-15 (20 percent) beyond the three-point line. The Greyhounds were four-for-six at the foul line and finished the game with just 13 turnovers, two of which were shot clock violations. Lebanon Valley made 12 of 26 second half field goals (46.2 percent) but just one of seven three-pointers. The Flying Dutchmen were eight of 14 at the foul line in the final 20 minutes and finished the game with 22 turnovers and a 37-33 advantage in rebounds after out-rebounding Moravian, 24-16, in the second half.
Weaver added two rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists to his career high 24 points while Young was the only other Greyhound in double figures with 14 points to go with two assists and two steals. Cullen contributed nine points and four rebounds for Moravian while Munley and sophomore forward Alvin Adams each grabbed a team high seven rebounds, and each player scored four points.
Sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso had six points, three rebounds and two assists in his first action for Moravian while senior forward Dave Bowden had four rebounds in his first action for the Greyhounds since the 2006-07 season after missing all of last year with an injury. Freshman guard Sergio Camacho had five points in his collegiate debut while freshman guard/forward Nelson Leon had two points.
Hodge led Lebanon Valley with 21 points to go with seven rebounds while Enoch tossed in 13 points to go with four boards. MacIntosh scored 11 points with a pair of rebounds while junior forward Dan Dunkelberger had a game high eight rebounds and two blocked shots to go with five points. Sophomore guard/forward Grant Becker added six points, two rebound and two assists while senior forward Eric Humphrey had six rebounds and four points off of the Flying Dutchmen bench.
