The 1998 Moravian College men’s and women’s cross country teams, under the direction of Head coach Mark Will-Weber captured their record sixth straight Middle Atlantic Conference Championships.
Behind the running of senior Jeff Minnich (Lehighton/Palmerton Area HS), the men’s cross country team took first place for the sixth straight year in the MAC Championship hosted at Allentown. Minnich finished 2nd in the race. The Greyhounds also finished 14 out of 37 in the NCAA Mideast Regional.
Minnich, who was the ‘Hounds top runner all season, was named to the NCAA Division III Mideast All-Region Team.
Sophomore Damon Rutherford (Reading/Exeter HS) and freshman Tim McDade (Bechtels-ville/Boyertown HS) were the Greyhounds other top runners, battling throughout the season for the second position. Rutherford had three top 20 finishes.
Seniors James Hillary (Easton/Easton HS) with three top 30 finishes, Chris Lowthert (Auburn/Pottsville HS) with two top 30 finishes, and Nick Murphy (South Kent, CT/South Kent School) with two top 30 finishes each gave valued contributions to the team this each.
Juniors Dylan Coia (Glen Rock, NJ/Notre Dame HS) and Tim Pfluger (Slatington/Northern Lehigh HS) completed the season with two top 25 finishes. Freshman duo Chris DeWalt (Easton/Easton HS) and Josh Heebner (Lansdale/North Penn HS) rounded out the team with DeWalt having a top 20 finish.
