2006 Review

Under the direction of fourth year head coach Amy Endler, the 2006 Moravian College field hockey team posted a 4-15 record this fall. The Greyhounds were 1-6 in Commonwealth Conference action and suffered a total of four one-goal losses during the season with two coming in overtime.

Leading Moravian was junior forward Savannah Bayer (Newton, NJ/Newton HS) with four goals on 36 shots and three assists for a total of 11 points on the year. Senior defender Kim Gialanella (Glenwood, NJ/Vernon Township HS) had three goals for a .375 shot percentage including a goal in her final collegiate game, while freshman forward Kayla Carson (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing HS) had two assists and two goals on 35 shots.

Sophomore forward Nicole Maugle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown HS) had two goals in limited action, and junior defender Jacqui Grande (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS) also had put two goals in the back of the cage, both on penalty strokes. Junior midfielder Mauri Dallago (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown HS) contributed one goal with two assists as well.

Also contributing one goal each were junior forward Jayme Baker (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh HS), sophomore midfielder Julia Garofalo (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Township HS), and freshman forward Lynda Kauffman (Boothwyn, PA/Chichester HS). Freshman forward Julie Bisci (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg HS), and freshman midfielder Samantha Bell (Sparta, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS) each had one assist as Baker and Garofalo did as well.

Junior midfielder Beverly Beaver (Merchantville, NJ/Pennsauken HS) had a team high five defensive saves for Moravian while sophomore defender Laura Boyd (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS) added three defensive saves. Gialanella, Grande and Bell each had one defensive save this season.

Time in goal was split between senior keeper Amanda Gaun (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham HS) and freshman goalie Kelly Schneider (Macungie, PA/Emmau HS). Gaun played 1,223 minutes, had 2.92 goals against average, 171 saves and two shutouts in her final season. Schneider played 120 minutes, with 12 goals against and 18 saves.

Also contributing this year were juniors forward Erica Spatz (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken HS) and midfielder Jamie Hirner (North Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua HS); sophomore midfielder/defender Lindsey Santacross (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony HS) and freshmen forward Alyssa Ross (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg HS), midfielder Stephanie Dellaquilla (Woodbury, NJ/West Deptford HS) and midfielder Samantha Milita (Annandale, NJ/Voorhees HS).

Beaver, Baker, Hirner, Spatz, Garofalo, Boyd and Santacross were all named to the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Fall Academic Honor Roll.
