2001 Quick Recaps

At Delaware Valley College  – Lost 4-2

Freshman forward Jaime Lichty scored a pair of goals but it wasn't enough as the Greyhounds fell in their final game of the season, 4-2, to Delaware Valley College in non-conference action.  Lichty gave the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead in the first half off a pass from senior midfielder Andrea Rafferty.  Lichty also scored the final goal of the game.  Freshman keeper Kirsli Spinks had 16 saves in the loss. 

At Bryn Mawr College  – Won 5-0

Freshman midfielder Becca Kipp scored the first goal of the match just three minutes into the first half and freshman goalie Kirsli Spinks made six saves while the Greyhounds added four more goals to earn a 5-0 victory over Bryn Mawr College in non-conference action.  Freshman forward Jaime Lichty netted a pair of first half goals, one with 12 minutes remaining off a pass from senior forward Suzy Wargo and the other with 9:47 left in the half off a feed from sophomore midfielder Kate Hunter.  Senior forward Leslie Siebler completed the first half scoring with two minute remaining on an unassisted goal.  Wargo scored an unassisted goal with just under 13 minutes remaining in the match. 

Vs. Elizabethtown College – Lost 2-1

Senior midfielder Elissa Gerstel scored her eighth goal of the season and the 30th of her career on Senior Day to give Moravian a 1-0 lead in the first half but the Greyhounds couldn't hold on, falling to Elizabethtown College, 2-1 in Commonwealth Conference action.  The loss snaps Moravian's two-match winning streak in conference play.  Senior forward Suzy Wargo set up Gerstel's goal with 16:59 remaining in the first half for her ninth career assist.  Freshman Kirsli Spinks made 11 saves in the match as the Greyhounds were out shot 16-7. 

At University of Scranton  – Lost 4-2

Freshman midfielder Becca Kipp and senior midfielder Elissa Gerstel each scored a goal but it wasn't enough for the Greyhounds as Moravian fell to the University of Scranton, 4-2, in non-conference action.  Freshman midfielder Jamie Lichty assisted on Kipp's tally in the first half while senior forward Suzy Wargo assisted on Gerstel's goal in the second half.  Freshman Amy Kranchalk had four saves in the match for Moravian while senior midfielder Andrea Rafferty added one defensive save.

Vs. Wilkes University – Lost 4-0

Moravian freshman goalie Amy Kranchalk made 12 saves and the Greyhounds out shot visiting Wilkes University, 20-19, but couldn't find the back of the net, falling 4-0 in non-conference action.  Sophomore midfielder Kate Hunter added a defensive save for Moravian.  Senior Jill Henry tallied all four goals for Wilkes. 

At Juniata College  – Won 1-0

Freshman midfielder Becca Kipp scored on a penalty corner with 28:00 minutes left in the second half and freshman goalie Kirsli Spinks made ten saves in her first game back from an injury to lead the Moravian College field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Juniata College in Commonwealth Conference action.  Senior forward Elissa Gerstel setup Kipp with a pass on the penalty corner.  Moravian was out shot 10-4 in the match.

Vs. Albright College – Won 2-1

Freshman forward Jamie Lichty scored on a breakaway with 8:46 left in the second half to lift Moravian to a 2-1 victory over Albright College in Commonwealth Conference action.  The Greyhounds last Commonwealth Conference victory came on October 20, 1998 with a 2-0 victory over Albright.  Moravian tied the game just over two minutes later on a goal by senior forward Elissa Gerstel assisted by senior midfielder Suzy Wargo with 16:35 left in first half.  Gerstel sprang Lichty on the game-winning goal with a long pass from midfield.  Freshman goalie Amy Kranchalk made her second career start in goal and had 17 saves in the victory.

Vs. Marywood University – Postponed to October 23rd

The Greyhound's match versus Marywood University was postponed due to transportation problems by Marywood.  It was rescheduled for Tuesday, October 23rd at 4:00 p.m. at Moravian.

At Messiah College  – Lost 10-0

Playing with out their only goalie, freshman Kirsli Spinks, the Greyhounds suffered a 10-0 loss to Messiah College in Commonwealth Conference action.  Freshman Amy Kranchalk played goal for the first time in her career and made 11 saves.  Senior Nicole Solley added two defensive saves while sophomore Kate Hunter had one defensive save. 

At King's College  – Lost 5-0

The Greyhounds were unable to find the back of the net for the third straight match, falling to King's College 5-0 in non-conference action.  Freshman goalie Kirsli Spinks made 22 saves in the match and senior back Nicole Solley added one defensive save. 

Vs. Lebanon Valley College  – Lost 3-0

Moravian dropped another tough match in Commonwealth Conference action, falling to perennial power Lebanon Valley College, 3-0.  Freshman goalie Kirsli Spinks made 18 saves in the match as Moravian was out shot 23-5. 

Vs. Widener University  – Lost 2-0

The Greyhounds gave up a pair of goals in the final 10:16 of the match to fall to Widener University, 2-0, in Commonwealth Conference action.  The Greyhounds had their chances to scored but were unable to do so in their second conference match of the season.  Freshman goalie Kirsli Spinks made eight saves in the loss.

Vs. Cedar Crest College – Won 6-0

Senior forward Elissa Gerstel had a hat trick and freshman goalie Kirsli Spinks made eight saves to lead Moravian to a 6-0 victory over Cedar Crest College in non-conference action. Gerstel gave Spinks all the offense she would need just over three minutes into the contest with her first goal off a pass from senior forward Suzy Wargo with 31:51 remaining in the first half.  Gerstel scored nine and a half minutes later on a rebound.  Sophomore forward Becca Kipp made the score 3-0 with 15:15 left in the first half off a pass from Wargo.  Senior forward Leslie Siebler made the score 4-0 five minutes before the half on a rebound shot.  Wargo scored a goal with 25 minutes remaining in the second half off a pass from freshman midfielder Stephanie Russo and Gerstel finished off the scoring a minute later on a goal assisted by Siebler.  Spinks turned away all eight shots she faced to earn her second shutout victory of the season. 

At King's College – Postponed to Sept. 25th

The Greyhounds match at King's College has been postponed.  The match was rescheduled for Tuesday, September 25th at 4:30 p.m.

At Susquehanna University – Lost 3-1

The Greyhounds dropped a tough 3-1 loss at Susquehanna University in the Commonwealth Conference opener for each school.  The match was tied at 1-1 at halftime after Moravian senior midfielder Elissa Gerstel scored with 24:28 left in the first half to tie the match.  The Crusaders scored twice in the second half for the win.  Moravian freshman goalie Kirsli Spinks made 20 saves in the loss. 

At Haverford College – Won 3-0

Freshman goalie Kirsli Spinks made ten saves while posting her first career shutout as Moravian earned a 3-0 victory over Haverford College in non-conference action.  The victory was also the first in the Moravian coaching career of head coach Natalie Gozzard.  Moravian freshman forward Jamie Lichty gave Spinks all the offense she would need with 28:09 remaining in the first half on an unassisted tally.  Sophomore forward Rebecca Kipp added an unassisted goal with 20:53 left in the first half to give the Greyhounds a 2-0 halftime lead.  Senior midfielder Elissa Gerstel scored the final goal with just 17 seconds left in the match on a penalty stroke.

At Muhlenberg College – Lost 1-0

The Greyhounds lost a 1-0 match to rival Muhlenberg College to open the 2001 season.  Moravian had two shots in the match with one by senior Elissa Gerstel and one by freshman Rebecca Kipp.  Freshman goalie Kirsli Spinks had 13 saves in her first collegiate game.
