Vs. Susquehanna University – Lost 6-1

Moravian closed out its 2002 season with a 6-1 loss to nationally ranked Susquehanna University in Commonwealth Conference action. The Crusaders, ranked sixth in the nation this week in the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Poll, had a 4-0 lead at halftime. Moravian junior forward Rebecca Kipp scored the first goal of the second half off a pass from junior midfielder Pam Pike. Susquehanna added two more goals later in the half. Moravian freshman goalie Chelsea Marshall made 13 saves in the contest.

At Albright College – Lost 8-1

Freshman forward/midfielder Brittany Currie scored a pair of goals to lift Moravian to a 4-3 victory over Albright College in Commonwealth Conference action. With the Greyhounds trailing 1-0, Currie tied the match with 20:55 remaining in the first half off a pass from freshman midfielder Stacee Cupples. Moravian took the lead with 14:36 remaining in the half on an unassisted goal by junior forward Rebecca Kipp. Currie pushed the Moravian lead to 3-1 in the first half when she found the back of the net off a pass from freshman forward Stephanie Beitler. Albright would score once before the intermission but Moravian junior forward Erika Sands scored on a breakaway 4:34 into the second half for what was the game-winning goal. Moravian freshman Chelsea Marshall made ten saves in goal for the victory.

The Greyhounds dropped their second straight match to a nationally ranked team, falling to Elizabethtown College, 8-1, in Commonwealth Conference action. The Blue Jays are ranked 19th in the nation in this week's STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll. Freshman forward Stephanie Beitler had the only Moravian score of the match on an unassisted goal in the first half. Freshman goalie Chelsea Marshall made ten saves for the Greyhounds.

Vs. Messiah College – Lost 4-0

Freshman forward/midfielder Aftan Fisher had a goal and two assists and senior midfielder/defender Brooke Good added a goal and an assist to lead the Messiah College field hockey team to a 4-0 victory over Moravian in Commonwealth Conference action. The Falcons, ranked fifth in the nation this week in the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association national poll, scored two goals in the first half and another two in the second half. Moravian managed just one shot on goal in the game while Messiah had 32 shots. Moravian freshman goalie Chelsea Marshall had 20 saves while Falcon keeper Erica Nelson had one goal.

Moravian scored a pair of unanswered goals in a span of 16 minutes to earn a 2-1 victory over Haverford College in non-conference action. After allowing a goal ten minutes into the contest, the Greyhounds would get on the board with 14:35 remaining in the first half on an unassisted goal by freshman forward Stephanie Beitler. Freshman midfielder Stacee Cupples netted the game-winning goal just 1:25 into the second half off a pass from freshman forward/midfielder Brittany Currie. Haverford had a 13-7 advantage in shots and a 22-1 advantage in penalty corners but Moravian freshman goalie Chelsea Marshall made ten saves for the victory.

The Greyhounds’ lone goal came with 15:43 remaining in the contest when junior midfielder Pam Pike found the back of the net of a pass from freshman defender Jill Brinckman. Moravian freshman goalie Chelsea Marshall made 13 saves in the match.

The Greyhounds had their second striaght Commonwealth Conference match postponed due to inclement weather. Moravian will now travel to Albright College on Thursday, October 31st.

Moravian has had its Commonwealth Conference match with nationally ranked Susquehanna University postponed until Saturday, November 2nd.

At Bryn Mawr College – Won 1-0

Junior midfielder Pam Pike scored with just over 25 minutes remaining in the contest to break a scoreless tie as the Greyhounds snapped a seven-match losing streak with a 1-0 victory over Bryn Mawr College in non-conference action. Pike's goal was set up by freshman midfielder Stacee Cupples with 25:28 to play in the second half. Moravian had a 29-5 advantage in shots and freshman goalie Chelsea Marshall made five saves for her first collegiate shutout and victory.

At Lebanon Valley College – Lost 8-2

Lebanon Valley College, ranked ninth in the nation this week, scored six times in the first half in an 8-2 victory over Moravian in Commonwealth Conference action. For the Greyhounds, freshman forward Stephanie Beitler scored 3:34 into the second half on an unassisted goal and Beitler set up sophomore midfielder Kelly Boone seven minutes later. Moravian freshman goalie Chelsea Marshall made seven saves while playing the first half of the match while sophomore keeper Amy Kranchalk had six stops in the second half.

Vs. Muhlenberg College – Lost 3-1

Freshman forward Brittany Currie scored with no time left on the clock in the first half to give Moravian a 1-0 halftime lead but the Greyhounds allowed three unanswered goals in the second half and dropped a non-conference match to rival Muhlenberg College, 3-1. Currie scored on a Moravian penalty corner and a pass from junior midfielder Pam Pike after time had expired in the first half but field hockey rules state that a penalty corner called before the clock counts to zero must be completed. Freshman goalie Chelsea Marshall made 12 saves for the Greyhounds as Moravian was out shot by the Mules, 18-12. The loss was the first for Moravian in the Annual Matte Award between the two schools, however, the Greyhounds still hold a 3-1 advantage for the year.

Junior forward Rachel Crocker scored the opening goal of the match to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead but Moravian allowed four unanswered goals in a 4-1 loss to Philadelphia Biblical University in non-conference action. Crocker's unassisted tally came with 28:13 remaining in the first half. The Crimson Eagles tied the contest five minutes later and sealed the game with three second half goals. Moravian freshman goalie Chelsea Marshall had eight saves in the match.

The shutout was the fourth straight for the Colonels, who scored two goals in each half. Moravian freshman goalie Chelsea Marshall made her first career start and had 15 saves as the Greyhounds were out shot 25-6 in the match.

Moravian dropped a tough 3-2 overtime match to FDU-Florham in non-conference action. Twice in the match, the Greyhounds came from behind to tie the contest and force the overtime period. Trailing 1-0, Moravian freshman forward/midfielder Brittany Currie knocked home a pass from junior forward Rachel Crocker with 19:48 remaining before halftime. Currie would tie the match at 2-2 with 13:56 left in the second half as she put home a pass from junior midfielder Pam Pike. FDU-Florham's Kristen Leonardis scored her second goal of the match with 7:44 left in the first overtime to win the contest. Moravian sophomore goalie Amy Kranchalk made seven saves in the match, her fourth straight due to injuries to the Greyhounds regular goalies.

Moravian notched its first victory of the 2002 season, defeating Alvernia College, 2-1, in non-conference action. The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead with 17:02 remaining in the first half when senior forward Rebecca Kipp scored an unassisted goal. Moravian extended its lead to 2-0 when freshman forward Stephanie Beitler found the back of the net with 11:48 to play until halftime. Sophomore goalie Amy Kranchalk made ten saves in her second straight start as Moravian out shot the Crusaders, 23-15.

The Greyhounds gave up a trio of first half goals including two to King's College forward Kelly Poncheri as the Monarchs defeated Moravian, 3-1, in a non-conference match. The Greyhounds lone tally came in the second half with 14:51 remaining on the clock when freshman forward Brittany Currie scored her first collegiate goal off a pass from sophomore midfielder Erika Sands. Sophomore Amy Kranchalk played in goal for the Greyhounds due to injuries to Moravian's other two goals and Kranchalk made four saves.

After a scoreless first half, the Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by junior midfielder Pam Pike that was assisted by junior forward Rebecca Kipp and an unassisted tally by freshman midfielder Stacee Cupples. However, Neumann responded with a hat trick from Lauren Toppy in the final 20 minutes of the match. Greyhound freshman goalie Lisa Oriolo made nine saves in the match.

The Greyhounds opened the 2002 season with a 2-0 loss to the University of Scranton in non-conference action. Moravian allowed a pair of first half goals, one to Carrie Moran and the other to Maureen Bole. Scranton out shot the Greyhounds 22-2 in the contest. Moravian freshman goalie Lisa Oriolo made nine saves in her collegiate debut. Greyhound freshman Jill Brinckman made a defensive save in the contest.
