2005 Review

Under the direction of third year head coach Amy Endler, the 2005 Moravian College field hockey team posted a 5-13 record this fall. The Greyhounds were 0-7 in Commonwealth Conference action and suffered a total of five one-goal losses during the season with one coming in overtime.

Senior forward Stacee Cupples (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) led the Greyhounds with 12 goals and six assists for 30 points. She was named to the 2005 Commonwealth All-Conference Second Team. Sophomore midfielder/defender Jayme Baker (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) was second on the team with six goals and two assists for 14 points. Sophomore forward Savannah Bayer (Newton, NJ/Newton HS) contributed three goals and three assists for nine points total.

Freshman forward Nicole Maugle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown HS) added four goals for eight points in her debut season while junior forward Jen Gassner (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan HS) contributed two goals and three assists for seven points. Junior forward Elyse Jurgen (York, PA/Red Lion HS) had two goals and two assists for six points.

Sophomores forward Erica Spatz (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken HS) and midfielder Mauri Dallago (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown HS) each contributed one goal. Spatz also added two assists. Freshman midfielder/forward Laura Scaduto (Hummelstown, PA/Harrisburg Academy) contributed one assist.

The key defensive players for the Hounds were senior Jill Brinckman (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen HS), junior Kim Gialanella (Glenwood, NJ/Vernon Township HS), and sophomore Taranae Hashemi (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS). Brinckman and Gialanella each had two defensive saves while Hashemi had one. Dallago also helped out with two defensive saves.

Other key players for coach Endler were sophomores Jacqui Grande (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS), and Beverly Beaver (Merchantville, NJ/Pennsauken HS) and freshmen Jessica Ebert (Hawley, PA/Honesdale HS), Lindsey Santacross (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony), Julia Garofalo (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Township HS), Alicia Abbuhl (Orange Village, OH/Orange HS), Alli McCabe (Downingtown, PA/Bishop Shanahan HS), and Lindsay Lefever (Morristown, NJ/Morristown HS).

In goal for Moravian was junior goal keeper Amanda Gaun (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham HS). Gaun played all 1263:41 minutes this season and had a 2.49 goals against average and 153 saves. Gaun also moved into first all-time in career saves with 498 after three seasons.

Moravian had seven student-athletes named to the 2005 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Fall Academic Honor Roll including Brinckman, Jurgen, Gassner, Beaver, Spatz, Hashemi, and Baker.
