1997 Review

Senior Audrey Weaver (Northampton/ Northampton HS) had a record-setting season for the Lady Greyhounds field hockey team, which finished the season with an 8-9 overall record and a 3-4 mark in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth League.

Weaver, a first team MAC Commonwealth League All-Star set the school records for carerr goals (46), career assists (20) and career points (112). She is the first player in Moravian history to score 100 points and just the fifth in MAC history to reach that plateau. Weaver had three hat tricks this year on the way to scoring 17 goals along with five assists.

Classmate Jaime Szulborski (Effort/Pleasant Valley HS) was the second leading scorer this fall with ten goals and seven assists. She completed her career with 24 tallies and ten helpers for 58 points.

Moravian’s other goals scorers this season were junior Becky Ziegenfuss (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview HS) and freshmen Brooke Dancho (Bethlehem/Freedom HS) and Jennifer Cosentino (Shohola/Delaware Valley HS) with two goals while freshmen Lynda Roney (Newton, NJ/Kittantinny HS) and Chelsea Roberts (Philadelphia/St. Basil HS) had a goal apiece in their debut seasons.

Sophomore goalie Tricia Salomonsen (Effort/Pleasant Valley HS) posted a 1.99 goals-against average this year and had four shutouts. She made 11.6 saves per game. Helping Salomonsen on defense were sophomores Jill Maghakian (Brookline, NJ/Hollis-Brookline HS), Laura Webster (New Hope/New Hope-Solebury HS), Nicole Drey (Bethlehem/Northampton HS), Kristeen Kelsey (Sciota/Pleasant Valley HS) and Colleen Walsh (Northampton/Northampton HS) and freshman Melissa Garrison (Phillipsburg, NJ/Belvidere HS).

Weaver, Walsh, Salomonsen, junior Sara deMange (Worcester, VT/Union-32 HS) and sophomore Stacey Laubenheimer (Glenville, NY/ BH-BS HS) were named to the MAC All-Academic squad.
