Winning four of its last five games, the mens soccer team completed the 1997 campaign with a 7-11-1 overall mark and a 4-3 slate in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth League. Of the Greyhounds 19 matches, six went to overtime, in which Moravian was 3-2-1, and two others were not decided until the final ten minutes.
Junior Nick DAndrea (Bensalem/Holy Ghost Prep) led the squad in scoring with four goals and five assists. He was named to the MAC Commonwealth League second team. Freshman Van Pham (Reading/Reading HS) paced the Hounds with six goals in his debut season.
Other goal scorers this fall were sophomores Jim Bonder (Williamstown, NJ/Moorestown HS) and Alex Pierce (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township HS) and freshman Rich Tate (Warrington/LaSalle College HS) and Kevin Byrne (Spring Lake, NJ/Manasquan HS) with three goals apiece. Senior Brad Weinstein (Langhorne/Nessaminy HS) had a pair of goals while junior Cory Kinley (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen HS) and freshman Matt Kling (Chatham, NJ/Oratory Prep HS) scored once.
Sophomore goalies Dan Byrne (Mt. Bethel/Bangor Area HS) and Ryan Shick (Jamison/Central Bucks East HS) combined for a 2.34 goals-against average and two shutouts.
Helping them on defense were senior captain Chris Miller (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley HS), juniors Alex Jenski (North Haledon, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) and Kris Silver (Quakertown/Quakertown HS) and freshman Andrew Grezlak (Doylestown/Central Bucks East HS).
Earning MAC All-Academic honors were Dan Byrne, Shick and Silver.
