2004 Review

Moravian College Men’s Tennis team posted an overall record of 9-5 and finished 3-4 in the Commonwealth Conference under the direction of head coach Jim Walker, who completed his 25th season at the school.

Senior Jason Toedter (Easton, PA/Easton HS) captured the Middle Atlantic Conference Singles Championship and was named the Commonwealth Player of the Year. He earned All-Conference First Team honors for his performances throughout the season and Toedter, who set the Moravian career record with 54 victories in four seasons, had an overall record of 17-4 in first singles.

Sophomore Neil Caniga (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS) had a 14-4 record in second doubles and earned All-Conference First Team honors. Caniga and junior Mike Helmuth (Bethlehem, PA/Harrisonburg (VA) HS) worked together in doubles and had a 10-7 record. Helmuth had a 8-6 record in third singles.

Toedter teamed with sophomore Nick Schuett (Oviedo, FL/Oviedo HS) in doubles action and posted a 10-4 record. Freshman Scott Shelbo (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) was 8-6 in singles action. Shelbo teamed up with sophomore Sean Lynch (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) in doubles action and posted a 10-8 record. In singles action, Lynch had an overall record of 6-8. Schuett posted a 3-12 record in singles action with a 3-10 record in fourth singles.

Coach Walker and Moravian are slated to return five players next season and will look again to challenge for a postseason berth.
