2005 Review

The Moravian College Men’s Tennis team posted an overall record of 5-9 and finished 3-4 in the Commonwealth Conference under the direction of head coach Jim Walker, who completed his 26th season at the school.

Junior Neil Caniga (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS) had an 8-8 record at first singles. He teamed up with senior Mike Helmuth (Bethlehem, PA/Harrisonburg (VA) HS) to finish up 7-7 at first doubles. Caniga and Helmuth both earned Commonwealth All-Conference First Team honors. Helmuth had a 9-5 record at second singles.

Sophomore Scott Shelbo (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) was 4-10 in singles action. Shelbo teamed up with junior Sean Lynch (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) in doubles action and posted a 5-8 record. In singles action, Lynch had an overall record of 6-9. Junior Nick Schuett (Oviedo, FL/Oviedo HS) posted a 3-12 record at fifth singles. Schuett teamed with sophomore Josh Sheetz (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown HS) to post a 1-6 record at third doubles. Sheetz had an overall record of 4-7 at singles action, being 2-6 at sixth singles.

Junior Ken LeCour (Cedar Knolls, NJ/Whippany Park HS) was 0-3 at sixth singles this season while teaming up with Caniga, Sheetz and Shelbo to have a record of 0-3 in doubles action. Junior Robert DiLauri (Whippany, NJ/Whippany Park HS) was 1-1 in singles action and partnered with Schuett and Sheetz to have a record of 2-3 in doubles action.

Coach Walker and Moravian are slated to return seven players next season and will look again to challenge for a postseason berth.
