1999-2000 Review

The Greyhounds placed fourth of 11 schools at the 2000 Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Widener University this spring after placing second in the 2000 MAC Indoor Championships.

At the MAC Outdoor Championships, senior Tim Pfluger (Slatington/Northern Lehigh HS) won the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:57. Pfluger’s win was his fourth straight in the MAC outdoor championships, which is believed to be a first in MAC history in this event, and his seventh overall in the MAC indoor and outdoor meets.

Junior Damon Rutherford (Reading/Exeter HS) placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:52.13. Rutherford was also fourth in the 1,500 meters in 4:03.16 and fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:06.68. Freshman George Wacker (Honesdale/Honesdale HS) placed fourth in the 800 meters at 1:56.97 followed by sophomore Josh Heebner (Lansdale/North Penn HS) in fifth in 1:57.39. Freshman Wes Zimmerman (Boyertown/Boyertown HS) was ninth in the 10,000 meters at 35:35.60 while sophomore Chris DeWalt (Easton/Easton HS) was ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:40.24. Sophomore Kevin Bush (Stroudsburg/Stroudsburg HS) was third in the 200 meters in 22.36 seconds and he placed in the 100 meters in 11.38 seconds.

Wacker, Heebner and Bush teamed up with sophomore Chris Colley (Easton/Easton HS) to place fourth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:25.31. Bush and Colley were part of the 4x100-meter relay with seniors Dan Oliynik (Dover, NJ/Morris Knolls HS) and Jason Goldan (Neshanic, NJ/Hillsborough HS) that placed fifth in 44.44 seconds. Oliynik earned a third place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.53 seconds while senior Jim O’Rourke (Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge HS) was ninth in the 110-meter high hurdles at 16.50 seconds.

Junior Anthony Rediger (Sellersville/Pennridge HS) was second in the triple jump at 44 feet, 4 ¼ inches and he tied for third in the high jump at six feet. Rediger placed ninth in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 1 ¾ inches. O’Rourke also cleared six feet in the high jump but he was tied for sixth based on the number of jumps. Freshman John Stanko (Lansford/Panther Valley HS) placed fifth in the triple jump at 43 feet, five inches.

Junior Bill Schmidt (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge HS) was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 45 feet, 5 ½ inches. Senior Josh Tirado (Weatherly/Weatherly HS) placed sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 115 feet, six inches and he was seventh in the discus with a toss of 128 feet, three inches.

Pfluger, Rutherford, Colley, Goldan, and Rediger were all named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll for both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
