2006-07 Indoor Season Review

The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team placed second of ten schools at the 2007 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships hosted by Susquehanna University. Moravian had a team score of 104 points while Elizabethtown College won the title with 114 points. The Greyhounds also tied for 28th of the 51 teams that scored and had one All-American on the second and final day of the 2006 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships hosted by Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, IN.

At the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships, junior Ozzie Brown (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh HS) earned All-American honors for the first time in his career, placing fourth in the finals of the 55-meter hurdles. Brown also competed in the preliminaries of the long jump, placing fifth in his flight and 12th overall with a jump of 6.77 meters (22 feet, 2 1/2 inches). Junior Nathaniel Tussey (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown Area HS) competed against Brown in an earlier heat, finishing sixth in the heat and tied for tenth overall in 7.77 seconds.

At the 2007 MAC Indoor Championships hosted by Susquehanna University, Brown paced the Greyhounds winning the 55-meter hurdles in an MAC meet record and an NCAA Division III automatic qualifying time of 7.53 seconds, the second fastest time in the nation to date. Brown also captured the 200-meter dash in 22.37 seconds, and he was the runner-up in the high jump at 1.97 meters (six feet, five inches), the long jump at 6.78 meters (22 feet, three inches) and the 55-meter dash in 6.51 seconds. Moravian's only other first place finish in the championship was by the 4x200-meter relay team of Brown, senior Josh Kline (Reading, PA/Exeter HS), junior James Bell (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin HS) and sophomore Robert Shaffer (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville HS) in a time of 1:31.55.

Tussey was the runner-up in the 55-meter hurdles in 7.64 seconds, an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time. Freshman Michael Blenk (Inwood, NY/Lawrence HS) was eighth in the preliminaries of the 55-meter hurdles in 8.28 seconds. Shaffer placed third for the Greyhounds in the 55-meter dash in 6.52 seconds while Bell was eighth in the preliminaries in 6.70 seconds. Shaffer also followed Brown in the 200-meter dash, placing fourth in 23.07 seconds while Kline was sixth in 23.37 seconds and Bell was 11th at 24.10 seconds.

In the distance races for Moravian, senior Josh Hunter (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton HS) placed fifth in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:59.55 while junior Timothy Pagano (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West HS) finished tenth in the 5,000-meter run in 16:18.79. Freshman Steven DeFazio (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville HS) was 11th in the mile run with a time of 4:44.72 while senior Anthony Sarno (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township HS) placed 19th at 4:52.62.

Sophomore Blair Maginnis (Asbury, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS) was the runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 14.85 meters (48 feet, 8 3/4 inches) while junior Nathaniel Dutile (Plymouth, ME/Nokomis HS) took fourth at 14.43 meters (47 feet, 4 1/4 inches). Dutile paced the Greyhounds in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 13.61 meters (44 feet, eight inches) that placed him sixth. Senior Steve Kondorossy (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery HS) was ninth at 12.72 meters (41 feet, 8 3/4 inches) while Maginnis placed tenth at 12.59 meters (41 feet, 3 3/4 inches) and freshman Ronald Draina (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen HS) finished 12th with a toss of 11.71 meters (38 feet, five inches).

Blenk was fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.45 meters (21 feet, two inches), and he took sixth in both the high jump, clearing 1.82 meters (five feet, 11 1/2 inches) and the triple jump with a distance of 12.64 meters (41 feet, 5 3/4 inches). Sophomore Alan Woods (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cedar Cliff HS) placed seventh in the pole vault for Moravian, clearing a height of 3.81 meters (12 feet, six inches).

Tussey, Timothy Pagano, Sarno, juniors Alan Fatzinger (Catasaqua, PA/Catasauqa HS) and Vince Pagano (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East HS) and sophomores John McCullough (Levittown, PA/Conwell Egan HS), Jared Henrie (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley HS), and Timothy Murphy (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) were all named to the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Winter Academic Honor Roll.
