1998-99 Review

The Greyhound men’s track and field team placed third of ten schools at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships for the second consecutive year.

Moravian had a pair of MAC Individual Champions with juniors Dan Oliynik (Dover, NJ/Morris Knolls HS) and Tim Pfluger (Slatington/Northern Lehigh HS) winning their events for the second straight year. Oliynik was the champion in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.64 seconds while Pfluger won the 1,500 meters in 4:02.18. Oliynik was 6th in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.98 while Pfluger was second in the 5,000 meters in 15:56.31

Freshman Josh Heebner (Lansdale/North Penn HS) placed second in the 800 meters in 1:55.34, sophomore Damon Rutherford (Reading/Exeter HS) was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:53.17 and senior Jeff Minnich (Lehighton/Palmerton Area HS) finished second in the 10,000 meters in 33:15.82. Rutherford placed eighth in the 1,500 meters in 4:14.32.

Moravian had three third placed finishes with Minnich taking third in the 5,000 meters in 15:57.21, sophomore Bill Schmidt (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge HS) third in the shot put at 45 feet, two inches (13.77 meters) and junior Jim O’Rourke (Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge HS) tying for third in the high jump at six feet, three inches (1.91 meters).

Freshman Tim McDade (Bechtelsville/Boyertown HS) was fourth in the 800 meters in 2:00.58 while the Greyhounds 4x100-meter relay team was also fourth in 43.58 seconds. McDade also placed sixth in the 800 meters in 4:12.51.

Sophomore Anthony Rediger (Sellersville/Pennridge HS) had a pair of fifth place finishes. He leaped 42 feet, 8 ½ inches (13.02 meters) in the triple jump and cleared six feet, three inches (1.91 meters) in the high jump. He placed fifth in the high jump even though Rediger and O’Rourke cleared the same height based on the number of jumps needed to clear the height. Rediger also placed eighth in the long jump at 20 feet, 4 ¾ inches (6.22 meters)

Senior Vance Szabo (Nazareth/Northampton HS) placed sixth in the 100 meters in 11.61 second s and eighth in the 200 meters in 23.82 seconds. Junior Dylan Coia (Glen Rock, NJ/Notre Dame HS) was eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:21.11 while senior Chris Lowthert (Auburn/Pottsville HS) was seventh in the 5,000 meters in 16:18.48.

Classmate Tyler McClimon (Birdsboro/Daniel Boone HS) was seventh in the 10,000 meters in 34:49.61 and senior Jeff Bradbury (Conyngham/Hazleton HS) finished eighth in the 10,000 meters in 35:18.53.

Off the track, Pfluger and Rutherford were named to the MAC Executive Director’s All-Academic Team while senior Josh Gold (Northampton/Northampton HS), Bradbury, Lowthert and McClimon were all named to MAC Academic Honor Roll.
