Vs. Messiah College –Lost 74-62

Moravian closed out its 2000-01 season with a 74-62 home loss to Commonwealth Conference regular season champion Messiah College. Sophomore forward Kelly McLean led the Greyhounds with 21 points and freshman guard Kim Hughes tossed in 12 points. For the second straight game, leading scorer, sophomore Tara Wozniak was held to single digits with just seven points in the game. Freshman forward Tracie Shipman led the Greyhounds with nine rebounds while McLean added five boards. Senior guard Jill Kenny had two points, two rebounds and three assists in her final career game. Moravian shot 91 percent from the foul line on the game (20 of 22) but just 33 percent from the floor (20 of 60).

At Elizabethtown College –Lost 69-65

The Greyhounds nearly pulled off an upset in their final road game of the season in a 69-65 loss at Elizabethtown College in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian, which trailed 32-29 at halftime, led 48-44 after a three-pointer by senior guard Jill Kenny with 15:05 to play and led again, 58-57, with 8:54 after a lay-up by junior forward Mary Morgans but the Greyhounds managed just seven free throws the rest of the game while the Blue Jays put up 12 points. Freshman guard Kim Hughes led he Greyhound attack with 19 points including a trio of three-pointers early in the second half. Sophomore forward Kelly McLean had a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. Sophomore guard Tara Wozniak, the team’s leading scorer was held to seven points, all in the second half. Freshman guard Kim Smith added seven points off the bench while freshman forward Tracie Shipman had seven rebounds and six points. Hughes contributed five steals in the loss while Kenny had five assists.

At Lebanon Valley College –Lost 80-75

Freshman guard Kim Hughes tossed in 24 points and sophomore guard Tara Wozniak had 23 points but it wasn’t enough as the Greyhounds fell to Lebanon Valley College, 80-75. The two teams were tied at the half, 35-35, but the Flying Dutchmen led by as many as 14 points in the second half. Freshman forward Tracie Shipman had a career day with a career high 11 points and a career best 13 rebounds as Moravian out-rebounded Lebanon Valley, 44-41. Sophomore forward Kelly McLean had 12 points in the game and she added seven rebounds. Moravian was 12 of 17 at the free throw line in the game while the Flying Dutchmen were 24 of 38.

Vs. Albright College –Won 73-45

The Greyhounds used a balanced scoring attack to defeated visiting Albright College, 73-45, in Commonwealth Conference action and to earn their tenth win of the season. Freshman guard Kim Hughes scored 16 points while sophomore forward Kelly McLean had 15 points and sophomore guard Tara Wozniak, this week's Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week, had 14 points. Moravian out-rebounded the Lions, 45-28, led by ten rebounds from freshman forward Tracie Shipman. McLean pulled down seven rebounds while Hughes and sophomore forward Sue Creelman each had six boards. Shipman added five steals while Hughes had three assists.

At Wilkes University –Won 64-47

Despite shooting just 48.5 percent from the foul line the Greyhounds were able to snap a two-game losing streak with a 64-47 victory at Wilkes University. Sophomore guard Tara Wozniak led the Greyhounds with 20 points and sophomore forward Kelly McLean added 13 points in the win. Moravian was out-rebounded 52-35 despite seven boards from McLean and six from Wozniak. Sophomore guard Jennifer Tannous added seven points while freshman guard Kim Hughes was held to two points, 12 under her season average.

Vs. Susquehanna University –Lost 78-75

Moravian nearly pulled off an upset as the Greyhounds lost to Susquehanna University, 78-75, in Commonwealth Conference action. Sophomore guard Tara Wozniak had a chance to send the contest into overtime but her three-pointer at the buzzer bounced off the backboard and rolled around the rim twice before falling out. The miss was Wozniak's first behind the three-point line in the game and just her sixth of the game. She scored a career high 30 points and added eight rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots. Sophomore forward Kelly McLean added 16 points and eight rebounds while freshman guard Kim Hughes scored 14 points. Freshman forward Tracie Shipman led the team with a career high 13 rebounds as the Greyhounds out-rebounded the Crusaders 40-35 in the contest despite Susquehanna's Karyn Kern grabbing her 1,000th career rebound. Moravian's one downfall in the game was its free throw shooting in the first half when the team blew a nine-point lead and was 5 of 11 from the line.

Vs. Juniata College –Lost 87-76

Moravian trailed Juniata College by just one point, 36-35, at halftime in a Commonwealth Conference but the Greyhounds couldn't stop the hot-shooting Eagles in the second half as Moravian fell 87-76. Juniata was 53 percent from the floor in the second half and 81 percent from the foul line as the two teams combined to take 83 free throws and make 62 (each team made 31 attempts). Freshman guard Kim Hughes paced the Greyhound offense with 24 points including a nine of ten performance from the foul line. Sophomore guard Tara Wozniak added 20 points while sophomore forward Kelly McLean had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Moravian out-rebounded Juniata 44-33 thanks to McLean's 14 boards and eight rebounds apiece from Wozniak and freshman forward Sue Creelman.

Vs. Drew University –Won 70-47

The Greyhounds continued to stay hot in the month of January as they defeated Drew University, 70-47, for the squad's sixth win in nine games this month. Sophomore forward Kelly McLean led a balanced attack with a game high 15 points. Freshman guard Kim Hughes added ten points while sophomore guard Tara Wozniak was held nine points under her average to six points in the contest, however, Wozniak only played 15 minutes in the game with Moravian ahead 34-23 at the half. The Greyhounds used 13 players in the contest with 12 of them scoring at least two points. Freshman forward Sue Creelman added seven points while freshman forward Tracie Shipman led the team with seven rebounds. McLean added six rebounds as Moravian won the battle of the boards, 36-22. The Greyhounds had their best shooting day of the season, connecting on 56 percent of their shots while having just 43 attempts. Moravian was 12 of 18 from the floor in the second half.

At Widener University –Won 71-65

The Greyhounds came back from a six-point deficit with 8:19 to play to earn a 71-65 victory over Widener University in Commonwealth Conference action and give head coach Mary Beth Spirk the 250th win of her career. Moravian had most of its offense from three players with sophomores guard Tara Wozniak and forward Kelly McLean each scoring 21 points and freshman guard Kim Hughes tossing in 20 points. McLean led the Greyhounds with eight rebounds while freshman forward Sue Creelman and Tracie Shipman each had seven boards. Creelman added six points off the bench. The Greyhounds were up by one point at the half, 37-36, but were out-rebounded in the game, 44-38.

At Messiah College –Lost 89-78

Moravian gave the top team in the Commonwealth Conference a game for most of the contest before Messiah put the contest away. The Greyhounds were up 27-20 midway through the first half and trailed by just three points, 72-69, with 6:44 to play. Both teams shot over 50 percent for the game with the Falcons connecting on 59 percent of their shots. Moravian shot 57 percent behind the three-point line and 83 percent from the foul line but Messiah was 92 percent at the foul line thanks to a 14-of-14 performance by sophomore Christina Vouriotis of Messiah. Sophomore guard Tara Wozniak tossed in 23 points for the Greyhounds while freshman guard Kim Hughes had 19 points. Sophomore forward Kelly McLean had 16 points and had a team high seven rebounds as the Greyhounds had a 29-24 advantage in rebounds for the game.

Vs. Franklin & Marshall College –Won 83-62

The Greyhounds had four players score in double figures and shot 64 percent to lead 49-38 at halftime in an 83-62 non-conference win over Franklin & Marshall College. Freshman guard Kim Hughes led all scorers with 19 points in the game while sophomore guard Tara Wozniak added 15 points. Sophomore guard Jennifer Tannous and sophomore forward Kelly McLean each scored 13 points with McLean adding ten rebounds. Freshman forward Tracie Shipman started for an injured sophomore forward Kristen Sarnocinski and pulled down a career best 11 rebounds and Shipman scored eight points while leading the team with 32 minutes. The Greyhounds held a 42-29 advantage on the boards in the contest. The game was the 249th win of head coach Mary Beth Spirk's 14-year stint.

Vs. Elizabethtown College –Lost 72-53

The Greyhounds dropped their second straight contest as Moravian fell to nationally ranked Elizabethtown College, 72-53, in Commonwealth Conference action. The Greyhounds trailed the entire contest. Sophomore guard Tara Wozniak led the squad with 17 points and four blocked shots while sophomore forward Kelly McLean added 12 points. Freshman forward Tracie Shipman led the Greyhounds on the boards with seven rebounds while freshman guard Kim Hughes added four assists and four steals.

Vs. Lebanon Valley College –Lost 74-62

The Greyhounds ran into a hot-shooting Lebanon Valley College squad as Moravian suffered a 74-62 loss to the Flying Dutchwomen in Commonwealth Conference action. Lebanon Valley connected on 51 percent of its field goals in the game and 58 percent in the second half and the Greyhounds only made 39 percent of their shots in the contest. Sophomore forward Kelly McLean and sophomore guard Tara Wozniak each had 13 points in the contest for Moravian while freshman guard Kim Hughes added 12 points. Freshman center Kristen Rohal and sophomore guard Jennifer Tannous each contributed six points in the loss. McLean pulled down nine rebounds and sophomore forward Kristen Sarnocinski added seven boards as Moravian lost the battle of the boards to Lebanon Valley by one, 38-37.

At Albright College –Won 62-46

Sophomore forward Kelly McLean scored a team high 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds to help the Greyhounds rally from three point halftime deficit to defeat Albright College, 62-46, in Commonwealth Conference action. The Greyhounds used a 19-0 in the middle of the second half to built a 53-35 lead with 7:22 left to play. Moravian out-rebounded Albright 49-31 behind an 11-rebound performance from sophomore forward Kristen Sarnocinski. Freshman guard Kim Hughes joined McLean in double figures with 12 points while sophomore guard Tara Wozniak had nine points, five rebounds and three steals. Sophomore guard Jennifer Tannous chipped in a season high eight points off the bench in the game. The win keeps the Greyhounds undefeated in the month of January.

Vs. Ursinus College –Won 64-52

Sophomore forward Kelly McLean and freshman guard Kim Hughes combined to shoot 17 of 28 from the floor and score 37 points in the Greyhounds 64-52 victory over Ursinus College in just the team's second home game of the season. McLean added 13 rebounds and three blocked shots while Hughes had two assists and two steals. After McLean and Hughes, the rest of the Greyhounds were nine of 42 from the floor. Sophomore guard Tara Wozniak had 16 points in the game and she added seven rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. Moravian received just five points from its eight bench players in the game. Junior forward Mary Morgans returned to the Moravian line-up after sitting out the first nine games after off-season surgery to grabbed five rebounds and block a shot in ten minutes. Sophomore forward Kristen Sarnocinski added six rebounds in the game.

At Dickinson College –Won 72-64

The Greyhounds were able to snap a four-game losing streak in their first contest of the new year, defeating Dickinson College, 72-64. Moravian held several leads in the game with its biggest of 12 points coming with just under five minutes left to play in the game. Sophomore Tara Wozniak had one of the best games of her career for the Greyhounds with 19 points and career bests 12 rebounds, six steals and four blocked shots. Sophomore forward Kelly McLean led the team with 21 points and she added seven rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots. Freshman guard Kim Hughes chipped in 11 points and five steals in the win while freshman forward Kristen Rohal added a career high nine points and a career best seven rebounds in just 12 minutes. Sophomore forward Kristen Sarnocinski had six points and six boards for Moravian while freshman forward Tracie Shipman pulled down seven rebounds.

At Marymount (VA) University –Lost 70-49

The Greyhounds were outscored 32-14 over the final 20:15 of the game and went over eight minutes in the second half without a point as Moravian fell to NCAA Division III powerhouse Marymount (VA) University, 70-49 in the final game before the Christmas holiday. Moravian shot 37.5 percent in the first half and 54 percent behind the three-point line but went cold in the second half, making just 17.2 percent of its field goals and no three-pointers. The Greyhounds, which had been shooting 77.5 percent from the foul line, made just 44.4 percent of their free throws in the contest. Sophomore guard Tara Wozniak led Moravian in scoring with 11 points while sophomore forward Kelly McLean had a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds. Freshman guard Kim Hughes had nine points and freshman forward Kristen Rohal added seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Jennifer Tannous and freshman guard Sarah Onkotz each had six boards in the game. Moravian heads to the Christmas break with a 2-6 record.

At Susquehanna University –Lost 64-52

The Greyhounds suffered a tough 64-52 loss to Susquehanna University in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian trailed by just four points at halftime and led by one point with 6:17 to play before the Crusaders went on a 21-8 run to end the game. Freshman guard Kim Hughes led the Hounds with 17 points while sophomore guard Tara Wozniak added 12 points. Wozniak added three assists and four steals while Hughes has five steals. Sophomore forward Kelly McLean tied her season high with 12 rebounds in the game while freshman guard Jackie Buschta had a career best six steals in the contest. Moravian shot over 80 percent from the free throw line for the fourth time this season.

At Juniata College –Lost 93-80

Freshman guard Kim Hughes had the best day of her brief Moravian career but it wasn't enough to overcome a hot-shooting Juniata squad as the Greyhounds lost to the Eagles, 93-80. Moravian trailed 44-43 at the half but Juniata connected on 63.6 percent of its field goals and 88.9 percent of its free throws in the second half to earn the 13-point win. Hughes led the Hounds with 28 points, ten rebounds and six steals, all career bests. Sophomore guard Tara Wozniak added 14 points in the game while freshman forward Tracie Shipman had ten points and five rebounds. Sophomore forward Kristen Sarnocinski also had ten points for Moravian while senior guard Jill Kenny contributed five assists.

At Muhlenberg College –Lost 74-68

Despite a career high 25 points from sophomore guard Tara Wozniak, the Greyhounds were unable to beat rival Muhlenberg College, falling 74-68 in Allentown. The Greyhounds led 36-34 at halftime and had rallied from an 8-2 deficit by making their first 15 free throws of the game. Moravian was 16 of 19 from the free throw stripe in the first half and 30 of 38 in the game but the Greyhounds were out-rebounded for the first time this season, 42-26, the first game Moravian has not had at least 50 rebounds in. Wozniak, who was eight of 17 from the floor and seven of 11 from the foul line also led the Greyhounds with six rebounds. Sophomore forward Kristen Sarnocinski added nine points and five rebounds in the loss.

Vs. Widener University –Won 94-56

Moravian used a balanced scoring attack with five players in double figures and a fourth straight game with over 50 rebounds to open the 2000-01 Commonwealth Conference season with a 94-56 victory over Widener University, the Greyhounds first Commonwealth win since February 17, 1999. Sophomore guard Tara Wozniak led the scoring with 17 points while freshman guard Kim Hughes tossed in 16 points. Hughes was six-for-six from the foul line and has made 15 straight free throws. Freshman guard Kim Smith netted a career high 11 points in the win while sophomore forward Kelly McLean and freshman forward Tracie Shipman each had ten points. Shipman and sophomore forward Kristen Sarnocinski each grabbed seven rebounds in the game with Sarnocinski scoring six points. Freshman guard Sarah Onkotz had six points and six rebounds as the Greyhounds out-rebounded Widener 54-35. Moravian shot 47.8 percent from the floor in the game and 50 percent in the first half when the team jumped out to a 43-23 lead. Senior guard Jill Kenny led Moravian with five steals and four assists while freshman center Kristen Rohal had five rebounds.

Vs. Methodist (NC) College in Muskingum College Tournament –Won 81-63 - Consolation Game

Moravian would use another balanced scoring attack to earn its first win of the season, an 81-63 triumph over Methodist College in the consolation game of the Muskingum Tournament. Sophomore forward Kelly McLean, freshman guard Kim Hughes and sophomore guard Tara Wozniak each scored 12 points in the contest while sophomore forward Kristen Sarnocinski had a career best 11 points. Freshman forward Tracie Shipman led Moravian on the boards in the game with nine rebounds. Sarnocinski pulled down eight rebounds while McLean and Wozniak each had seven rebounds as Moravian held a 55-34 advantage on the boards. Freshman forward Kristen Rohal had five rebounds and six points in the game while senior guard Jill Kenny had six assists and Hughes, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, added four steals.

At Muskingum College in Muskingum College Tournament –Lost 90-82

In the first game of the Muskingum College Memorial Tournament, the Greyhounds battled back twice to lose by just eight points, 90-82, to the host school. Moravian was behind 13 points with 10:30 to play in the first half and the team responded to take a two-point lead two and a half minutes into the second half. Moravian would be down by 23 points with six minutes to play before out scoring Muskingum 22-6 during the rest of the game. Sophomore forward Kelly McLean and freshman guard Kim Hughes led the Greyhounds with 18 points in the game while sophomore guard Tara Wozniak tossed in 14 points. McLean led Moravian on the boards with 12 rebounds. Sophomore forward Kristen Sarnocinski added eight rebounds and seven points while senior guard Jill Kenny dished out a career high eight assists. Moravian out-rebounded Muskingum 54-47 in the game.

At Allentown College – Lost 62-52

The Greyhounds opened the 2000-01 season with a 62-52 loss at Allentown College after being tied with the Centaurs 29-29 at the half. Freshman forward Sarah Onkotz led the squad with ten points while sophomore guard Tara Wozniak, sophomore forward Kelly McLean and freshman guard Kim Hughes each had nine points. Freshman guard Kim Smith had seven points in the balanced scoring attack while freshman forward Tracie Shipman led the team with eight rebounds. McLean added six boards in the loss.
