At Messiah College in Commonwealth Conference Semifinals - Lost 66-56

Moravian, seeded third, was knocked out of the 2002 Commonwealth Conference Semifinals with a 66-56 loss at Messiah College, the second seed. The Greyhounds, making their first playoff appearance in five years, trailed just 49-48 with five minutes to play in the second half and Moravian led early with a 13-5 lead six minutes into the game. The key for the Falcons in the second half was shooting 46 percent from the floor while Moravian only shot 31 percent. Messiah was also 11 of 16 from the charity stripe in the second half while Moravian was only one for two. Junior guard Tara Wozniak and junior forward Kelly McLean each had 14 points in the game for the Greyhounds and McLean had her second straight double-double of the season and her seventh overall with a team high 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Tracie Shipman, sophomore guard Kim Smith and freshman guard Jen Behagg each scored seven points for Moravian in the game while Wozniak and junior guard/forward Kristen Sarnocinski each had five rebounds. Wozniak added four steals in the contest.

At Juniata College - Won 70-65

The Greyhounds won their final regular season contest with a 70-65 Commonwealth Conference victory at Juniata College. Moravian, which finished the regular season at 16-9 overall and 10-4 in the Commonwealth Conference, will travel to Messiah College on Wednesday, February 20th for a Commonwealth Conference Semifinal game. Moravian is the third seed while Messiah is the second seed. Lebanon Valley College, a 50-47 winner over Messiah on Saturday, will have the top seed and host fourth seed Juniata. One of the keys for Moravian in the win over the Eagles was free throw shooting as the Greyhounds connected on 28 of 36 attempts while Juniata made just five of 12 attempts. Moravian, which trailed 34-33 at halftime, was down 49-43 with ten minutes remaining in the second half. Junior guard Tara Wozniak led Moravian in scoring with 17 points while junior guard/forward Kristen Sarnocinski added 16 points. Junior forward Kelly McLean had a double-double for the Greyhounds with 15 points and a game high ten rebounds. Freshman guard Jen Behagg has nine points and five rebounds while sophomore guard Sarah Onkotz had seven points and three rebounds. Senior guard/forward Mary Morgans pulled down five rebounds while starting for sophomore guard Kim Hughes who missed the game due to illness. Sophomore forward Tracie Shipman also added five rebounds.

At Susquehanna University - Lost 74-55

Moravian had its first chance to clinch the third seed in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs, but the Greyhounds let it slip away in a 74-55 loss at Susquehanna University. Moravian shot just 31.8 percent in the game and 28.9 percent in the second half while the Crusaders connected on 46.4 percent for the contest and 53.3 percent in the second half when Susquehanna pulled away from a 31-26 halftime lead. The Greyhounds had two players score in double figures with junior forward Kelly McLean and sophomore guard Kim Hughes each scoring a game high 17 points. McLean also led Moravian with six rebounds and four blocked shots. Junior guard/forward Kristen Sarnocinski and sophomore guard Kim Smith each had six points while Moravian's leading scorer junior guard Tara Wozniak was held to just two points in the loss. Moravian can still clinch the third spot in the playoffs with a victory at Juniata on Saturday. 

Vs. Widener University - Won 65-56

The Greyhounds won their second straight game and their 15th contest of the season, the first time since 1997-98 Moravian has won at least 15 games in a year, with a 65-56 victory over Widener University in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian is 9-3 in the Commonwealth and can clinch third place with a victory at Susquehanna University on Tuesday. Junior guard/forward Kristen Sarnocinski scored a career high 20 points to lead the Greyhounds in the victory. Junior forward Kelly McLean was the only other Moravian player in double figures with ten points. McLean tied her career best with 17 rebounds to lead the Greyhounds to a 50-39 advantage on the boards. Sarnocinski contributed seven rebounds and three assists. Junior guard Tara Wozniak scored nine points in the game while sophomore guard Kim Hughes and senior guard/forward Mary Morgans each had seven points. Senior forward Carrie McCaffery had two points and a rebound in her final home game.

Vs. Elizabethtown College - Won 76-57

Moravian clinched its first playoff appearance since the 1997-98 season with a 76-57 victory over Elizabethtown College in Commonwealth Conference action. The Greyhounds are 14-8 overall this season and 8-3 in the Commonwealth Conference with three regular season games remaining. Moravian, which will play its first round playoff game on the road on February 20th at a site to still be determined, jumped out to a 33-24 halftime lead while shooting a perfect 12-of-12 from the foul line. The Hounds shot 47 percent from the floor in the second half and 41 percent for the game. Junior guard Tara Wozniak led Moravian with 18 points and nine rebounds and she added four steals. Junior forward Kelly McLean added 16 points and six rebounds while sophomore guard Kim Hughes had ten points, five rebounds and three steals. Sophomore forward Tracie Shipman had eight boards for Moravian while junior guard/forward Kristin Sarnocinski had nine points and a career high five assists in the win.

At Messiah College - Lost 97-73

The Greyhounds fell behind early and trailed the entire game in a 97-73 loss at Messiah College in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian falls to 7-3 in Commonwealth Conference action and will play on the road for the playoffs should the team win two of its final four games to qualify for the playoffs. Junior guard Tara Wozniak led the Greyhounds with 18 points and she added five rebounds while junior forward Kelly McLean had 14 points and six boards. Sophomore forward Tracie Shipman led Moravian on the boards with seven rebounds and she added seven points. Sophomore guard Kim Smith added nine points off the bench. Messiah shot 59 percent in the game and attempted 40 free throws in the contest.

Vs. Albright College - Won 65-46

Moravian jumped out to a 20-4 lead and never looked back in a 65-46 Commonwealth Conference victory over Albright College. The Greyhounds, now 13-7 overall and 7-2 in the Commonwealth Conference this season, led 42-18 at halftime. Junior guard Tara Wozniak led three Greyhounds in double figures with 16 points. Sophomore guard Kim Hughes had 14 points in the game as well as a career high nine steals to go with five assists and four rebounds. Junior forward Kelly McLean added ten points and six rebounds while sophomore forward Tracie Shipman led Moravian with eight boards in the game. Freshman guard Jen Behagg contributed three assists, four points and three rebounds in the victory. 

At Lebanon Valley College - Lost 65-40

The Greyhounds fell out of a three-way tie for first place in the Commonwealth Conference with a 65-40 loss at Lebanon Valley College. Moravian had been tied with LVC and Messiah for first place after the first round of conference play. The Greyhounds had a 28-26 halftime lead in the game but scored just 12 points in the second half while shooting just 10.3 percent from the floor. Moravian was also out-rebounded by 19 in the game. Junior guard Tara Wozniak was the only Moravian player in double figures with 22 points and she had seven rebounds and five steals. Junior forward Kelly McLean added nine points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Kim Hughes and sophomore forward Tracie Shipman each had five rebounds in the loss.

Vs. Susquehanna University - Won 59-51

Moravian struggled out to an 18-14 halftime lead before turning it on in the second half in a 59-51 victory over Susquehanna University in Commonwealth Conference action. The win gives the Greyhounds a 6-1 conference mark in the first half of the season, a three-way tie for first place. Moravian made 43 percent of its shots (12 of 28) in the second half while shooting 82 percent (18 of 22) from the foul line in the game. Junior forward Kelly McLean led the Greyhounds with games high of 17 points and 11 rebounds. The 11 rebounds gave McLean 502 in her career, making her the tenth Moravian player to pull down 500 career rebounds. Junior guard Tara Wozniak had 14 points, four rebounds and three steals in the game while sophomore guard Kim Hughes had 12 points and four boards. Sophomore forward Tracie Shipman added nine points and four rebounds as Moravian out-rebounded Susquehanna, 39-34 in the win.

Vs. Juniata College - Won 76-61

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 50-23 first half lead and held on for a 76-61 victory over Juniata College in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian shot 62.5 percent in the first half (15 of 24) and the Greyhounds were 23 of 29 (79.3 percent) from the foul line in the game. Moravian had just two players score in double figures with sophomore guard Kim Hughes scoring a game high 21 points and junior guard Tara Wozniak adding 15 points. Moravian had a 42-36 advantage on the boards with seven rebounds from sophomore forward Tracie Shipman and five boards from Hughes and junior forward Kelly McLean. Shipman and McLean each had seven points in the game while sophomore guard Kim Smith contributed eight points off the bench. Moravian is currently in a three-way tie for first place in the Commonwealth Conference at 5-1 after Lebanon Valley defeated Messiah College on Saturday.

At Franklin & Marshall College - Lost 72-70

Moravian rallied from a 27-11 deficit in the first half to take a 63-61 lead with 4:12 remaining in the game but the Greyhounds couldn't hold on in a 72-70 non-conference loss to Franklin & Marshall College. The Greyhounds were up 70-69 with under a minute to play but a pair of turnovers cost Moravian the game. The Hounds committed 29 turnovers in the game while allowing the Diplomats top two players to combine for 48 points. Sophomore guard Kim Hughes had a team high 20 points while junior forward Kelly McLean added 16 points and eight rebounds. Moravian had a 40-38 advantage on the boards with sophomore forward Tracie Shipman grabbing a team high ten rebounds including eight on the offensive glass. Shipman added 15 points while juniors Tara Wozniak and Kristen Sarnocinski each scored six points. Wozniak also had seven rebounds in the contest. 

At Widener University - Won 66-59

Junior guard Tara Wozniak scored 21 points and added eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals to lead Moravian to a 66-59 Commonwealth Conference victory over Widener University. The victory was Moravian's tenth of the season, equaling the squad's win total from last season. Sophomore guard Kim Hughes scored 12 points and added four assists in the game while junior forward Kelly McLean had 11 points and a team high 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Sarah Onkotz was a fourth Greyhound player to score in double figures in the game with ten points. Junior forward Kristen Sarnocinski contributed eight points while sophomore forward Tracie Shipman pulled down six rebounds in the win. 

Vs. Messiah College - Lost 68-61

The Greyhounds dropped a 68-61 decision to #11 Messiah College in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian, which trailed by as many as 12 points, was within four points in the final three minutes of the game before Messiah iced the contest at the free throw line. The Falcons were 23 of 30 in the game while the Greyhounds were 28 of 32 at the charity stripe. Junior guard Tara Wozniak led the Greyhounds with 14 points while junior forward/guard Kristen Sarnocinski and sophomore forward Tracie Shipman each had 13 points for Moravian. Junior forward Kelly McLean had eight rebounds while sophomore guard Kim Hughes had eight points. Freshman guard Jen Behagg contributed six points, four rebounds and three assists.

At Elizabethtown College - Won 61-38

Moravian bounced back from its first loss of the new year to do something it has done just once before in 13 career games, earn a Commonwealth Conference victory at Elizabethtown College. Moravian's only prior win at Elizabethtown came on December 8, 1990. The Greyhounds posted a 61-38 victory over the Blue Jays to move to 3-0 on the season and setup a first place showdown with Messiah College on Saturday. Moravian made 40.4 percent of its shots in the game (19 of 47) and the Greyhounds were 20 of 24 from the foul line (83.3 percent). Moravian also had a 46-30 advantage on the boards with junior forward Kelly McLean pulling down a game high 11 rebounds. McLean also led all scorers with 16 points. Junior guard Tara Wozniak was the only other Greyhound to score in double figures with ten points. Wozniak added eight rebounds while sophomore forward Tracie Shipman contributed eight points and six rebounds. 

At Delaware Valley College - Lost 78-61

The Greyhounds had their six-game winning streak snapped on a cold shooting night with a 78-61 loss at Delaware Valley College. Moravian was just 21 of 75 from the floor (28.0 percent) and 15 of 28 at the foul line (53.6 percent). Sophomore forward Tracie Shipman led the Greyhounds in scoring with 13 points off the bench and she added 11 rebounds for a double-double. Junior forward Kelly McLean also had a double-double with a game high 16 rebounds to go along with 12 points. Junior guard Tara Wozniak also tossed in 12 points and she added eight rebounds as Moravian held a 54-46 advantage on the boards with 26 offensive rebounds. Junior forward Kristen Sarnocinski contributed eight points while sophomore guard Kim Hughes had seven points.

Vs. North Carolina Wesleyan College - Won 62-44

Moravian earned its sixth straight win overall and second of the Moravian New Year's Tip-Off Tournament with a 62-44 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan College. The Greyhounds finished second in the tournament based on fewest points allowed. The tournament schedule was rearranged to accommodate North Carolina Wesleyan after heavy snow kept the team south an extra day. The Battling Bishops came out hot in the game and held a 21-10 lead with 10:10 left in the first half before Moravian went on a 15-2 run to finish the half. Moravian didn't let up in the second half and only let North Carolina Wesleyan get within two points early in the half before pulling away for the 18-point victory. Junior forward Kelly McLean, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, led the Greyhounds with 15 points and seven rebounds while junior guard Tara Wozniak, a member of the All-Tournament Team, added 14 points as the only other Moravian player in double figures. Sophomore forward Tracie Shipman added nine points and six rebounds while junior forward/guard Kristen Sarnocinski contributed nine points, with two three-pointers in the second half to help Moravian pull away, and four rebounds. 

Vs. Ursinus College - Won 77-64

The Greyhounds opened the 2002 Moravian New Year's Tip-Off Tournament with a 77-64 victory over Ursinus College. Moravian, which won its fifth straight game this season, was playing the Bears since North Carolina Wesleyan College was delayed leaving North Carolina due to heavy snow. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 20-8 lead in the first half and led 34-29 at the break. The Bears moved within 41-40 in the second half before Moravian pulled away with a 21-2 run. Junior guard Tara Wozniak led the Greyhounds with 19 points and eight rebounds in the game while junior forward Kelly McLean had 17 points and seven boards. Sophomore guard Kim Hughes contributed ten points while junior forward Kristen Sarnocinski had seven rebounds. Freshman guard Jen Behagg dished out a career best six assists in the game while scoring five points. Moravian shot 54.5 percent from the floor in the game and held a 47-29 advantage on the boards. 

Vs. Lebanon Valley College - Won 77-66

Junior guard Tara Wozniak tossed in 25 points to lead the Greyhounds to their fourth straight overall win and their second consecutive Commonwealth Conference victory in a 77-66 triumph over Lebanon Valley College. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 34-24 halftime lead and were never really challenged in the second half. Sophomore guard Kim Hughes was the only other Moravian player to score in double figures with 13 points. The Greyhounds did have 11 of 14 players score at least one point in the game. Junior forward Kelly McLean led Moravian with six rebounds while Wozniak and freshman guard Jen Behagg each had five boards. Junior forward Kristen Sarnocinski dished out three assists to go with six points and four rebounds while Wozniak led Moravian with four steals and two blocks. Forward Stephanie Tighe led Lebanon Valley with 29 points and six rebounds.

At Ursinus College - Won 48-38

Junior guard Tara Wozniak scored a game high 16 points to led the Greyhounds to their third straight win, a 48-38 non-conference victory at Ursinus College. Moravian led 19-14 at halftime as the two schools combined to shoot under 30 percent for the game (31 of 106) and commit 58 turnovers. The Greyhounds did have a 44-37 advantage on the boards led by eight rebounds from Wozniak and sophomore guard Kim Hughes. Hughes added five points in the contest while Wozniak had a career high five blocked shots. Junior forward Kelly McLean added nine points and five rebounds off the bench for Moravian.

At Albright College - Won 72-62

Sophomore forward Tracie Shipman scored 15 of her team high 16 points in the second half to help the Greyhounds pull away for a 72-62 victory over Albright College in the 2001-02 Commonwealth Conference opener for both schools. Moravian was ahead 34-33 at halftime after trailing by as many as eight points in the first half. The Greyhounds took the lead for good in the game on a jumper by Shipman with 8:11 to play. Shipman had a double-double in the game with 11 rebounds as Moravian held a slim 47-45 advantage on the boards. Sophomore guard Kim Hughes contributed 13 points while junior guard Tara Wozniak added 12 points off the bench. Wozniak had seven rebounds while junior forward Kelly McLean had nine points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. Junior forward Kristen Sarnocinski also had nine points and five boards in the game. The keys to the game for Moravian were a 25-34 performance from the foul line and just 18 turnovers in the game. Albright, who was led in scoring by Laura Tangradi with a game high 18 points, was just ten of 16 at the charity stripe and committed 27 turnovers.

At Drew University - Won 72-63

Moravian bounced back from a 33-28 halftime deficit to earn a 72-63 victory over Drew University in non-conference action. Moravian turned the five-point deficit into an 11-point lead in the first 5:17 of the second half. Keys for the Greyhounds were the team's best shooting second half of the season at 48.3 percent (14 of 29) and shooting 83.3 from the foul line in the second half (15 of 18) while Drew was just four of nine at the foul line after half time. Sophomore forward Tracie Shipman scored a career high 16 points to lead the Greyhounds and she added six rebounds while junior forward Kristen Sarnocinski had 13 points. Sophomore guard Kim Hughes added 12 points while junior guard Tara Wozniak led the Greyhounds on the boards with six rebounds and she contributed seven points as did sophomore guard Kim Smith. Freshman guard Jen Behagg added four rebounds, two assists and two steals while junior forwards Kelly McLean and Sue Creelman each had four rebounds in the contest.

Vs. Muhlenberg College - Lost 68-64

The Greyhounds suffered through another poor shooting second half, letting a nine-point lead slip away in a 68-64 loss to Muhlenberg College. Moravian shot just 33 percent for the game and led by six points, 54-48, with 10:43 left to play but the squad scored just ten points the remainder of the game. The Greyhounds committed 25 turnovers in the contest with 14 coming in the second half. The loss to Muhlenberg was Moravian's first at home to the Mules since the 1987-88 season, a string of ten straight wins. Moravian did have a balanced attack in the game with five players scoring in double figures led by sophomore guard Kim Hughes, junior guard Tara Wozniak and junior forward Kelly McLean each scoring 11 points in the contest. Junior forward Kristen Sarnocinski and sophomore forward Tracie Shipman each added ten points in the loss. McLean led Moravian on the boards with nine rebounds while Sarnocinski grabbed eight rebounds. Wozniak added seven boards. Moravian out-rebounded Muhlenberg 45-32 in the contest. Freshman guard Jen Behagg had eight points, four rebounds and four assists in the loss.

Vs. Wilkes University - Won 78-52

Moravian used a balanced scoring attack and controlled the boards as the Greyhounds defeated Wilkes University, 78-52, in non-conference action. Moravian led by 18 points and halftime and owned a 48-33 rebound advantage in the game. Sophomore guard Kim Hughes led Moravian with 18 points while junior guard Tara Wozniak and junior forward Kelly McLean each had ten points. Wozniak added seven rebounds and four assists while McLean had six rebounds and five steals. Freshman guard Jen Behagg led the Greyhounds with eight rebounds in the game including six on the offensive end. Behagg also added five points, three assists and three steals while sophomore forward Tracie Shipman had nine points. The Greyhounds had 14 of the 15 players they used in the game score at least one point. Senior guard Robyn Mendygral led Wilkes with 16 points and ten rebounds. 

Vs. DeSales University - Lost 74-65

The Greyhounds struggled in the home season opener, falling to DeSales University, 74-65. Moravian trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half before cutting the Bulldogs lead to 64-63 with 2:55 to play on a three-pointer by junior guard Tara Wozniak. Moravian managed just two points off a pair of Wozniak free throws in the rest of the game. The Greyhounds committed 29 turnovers in the game. Wozniak led all Moravian scorers with 18 points in the game and she grabbed a team best six rebounds. Sophomore guard Kim Hughes added 16 points and six rebounds while junior forward Kelly McLean had 13 points and six boards. Sophomore forward Tracie Shipman added six rebounds while freshman guard Jen Behagg had seven points and three assists.

At Southwestern (TX) Univ. at Southwestern Univ. Tournament - Won 60-55

Junior forward Kelly McLean led four scorers in double figures with 13 points as the Greyhounds won the Consolation Game of the 2001 Southwestern (TX) University Tournament over host Southwestern University, 60-55. Junior guard Tara Wozniak, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, had 12 points and led Moravian with 11 rebounds as the Greyhounds had a 47-34 advantage on the boards. Sophomore forward Tracie Shipman added 12 points and eight rebounds while junior forward Kristen Sarnocinski tossed in ten points with six boards. For the second straight day, the Greyhounds suffered through a dismal second half of shooting as the team shot just 29 percent in the second half but Southwestern could connect on just 23.5 percent of its second half and didn't hold onto a three-point halftime lead over Moravian.

vs. McMurry (TX) University at Southwestern Univ. Tournament - Lost 84-72

Moravian suffered through a poor shooting night in a season opening 84-72 loss to McMurry (TX) University at the Southwestern University Tournament in Georgetown, Texas. The Greyhounds trailed by just three points at the half, 42-39, but shot just 29.6 percent in the second half while the Indians connected at 42.4 percent after the intermission. Junior guard Tara Wozniak led the Greyhounds in scoring with 25 points but she fouled out of the game while playing 26 minute. Sophomore guard Kim Hughes added 16 points and four steals while junior forward Kelly McLean was the only other Greyhound in double figures with 11 points. McLean led Moravian with eight rebounds while junior forward Kristen Sarnocinski had seven boards and Wozniak contributed six rebounds. Moravian also committed 26 turnovers in the contest.
