At Widener University – Lost 3-1

Moravian had its chance for the third straight appearance in the Commonwealth Conference Playoffs as the squad dropped its final regular season contest to Widener University, 3-1, in Commonwealth Conference action. The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute on a goal by junior midfielder Jackie Buschta that was set up by freshman forward Megan Collins. However, Widener would score three unanswered goals for the victory. The Greyhounds did have a 6-5 advantage in shots in the match. Moravian sophomore goalie Jill Vaccaro made two saves. The Greyhounds must now wait until Monday, November 9th to see if the team will be awarded one of six berths in the 2002 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament.

At York (PA) College – Cancelled

Moravian had its final non-conference match of the year, a road contest at York (PA) College cancelled due to poor weather and field conditions.

Vs. Albright College – Won 2-0

Junior midfielder Jackie Buschta scored a goal and added an assist to lead Moravian to a 2-0 shutout of Albright College in Commonwealth Conference action. The Greyhounds move within one victory of the team’s third straight postseason appearance with the win. Moravian got all the offense it would need just 4:30 into the match when freshman forward Megan Collins drove home a goal setup by Buschta and freshman forward Lindsay Pohl. Buschta scored on a header in the second half off a pass from freshman midfielder Edna Snyder. Greyhound senior goalie Neali Miller and junior keeper Kelly Wakeman combined for the shutout with Miller playing 70 minutes and making the only save of the match.

Moravian was held scoreless for a third consecutive match but the Greyhounds forced the regionally ranked University of Scranton to overtime before falling to the Royals, 1-0, in non-conference action. The Greyhounds had just one shot in the match as Scranton had a 14-1 advantage in shots. Moravian sophomore goalie Jill Vaccaro made 12 saves in the contest.

The Greyhounds played to a scoreless tie with Susquehanna University in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian held an 11-7 advantage in shots with sophomore goalie Jill Vaccaro making seven saves for the Greyhounds.

Moravian had its three-match winning streak snapped by Elizabethtown College as the Blue Jays shutout the Greyhounds, 3-0, in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian actually had an advantage in shots in the contest, 15-13, but was unable to find the back of the net. Moravian sophomore keeper Jill Vaccaro had five saves in the match.

Moravian had its Commonwealth Conference match at Elizabethtown College postponed due to inclement weather. The match has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 15th at 4:00 p.m.

Vs. Drew University – Won 2-1

The Greyhounds' junior midfielder Jackie Buschta scored a pair of first half goals for a 2-0 lead and the team held on for a 2-1 victory over Drew University in non-conference action. Moravian, which extended its winning streak to three straight matches, took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute on a Buschta's first goal that was set up by freshman forward Megan Collins. The Greyhounds would extend their lead to 2-0 five minutes later when Buschta found the back of the net off a pass from freshman forward Lindsay Pohl. The Rangers netted their goal just five minutes into the second half. Moravian held a 31-7 advantage in shots in the contest with Greyhounds sophomore goalie Jill Vaccaro making four saves in the victory.

Vs. Lebanon Valley College – Won 2-1

Junior defender Justina Bria scored in the 78th minute to give Moravian a 2-1 victory over Lebanon Valley College in Commonwealth Conference action. The victory lifts the Greyhounds’ record to 8-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the Commonwealth Conference while the Flying Dutchmen, who were ranked eighth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Mid-Atlantic Regional poll this week, drop their first Commonwealth Conference match. Bria’s goal was setup by freshman forward Megan Collins off a corner kick, 77:45 into the match. The Greyhounds had a 1-0 halftime lead when junior midfielder Erica Napoli scored on the Greyhounds’ first shot of the match. Moravian sophomore goalie Jill Vaccaro made eight saves in the victory.

Moravian, which was winless in its last two matches, got all the offense it would need in the 21st minute as junior midfielder Erica Napoli found the back of the net off assists from junior midfielders Jackie Buschta and Rachel Davy. Freshman forward Megan Collins tallied an unassisted goal in the 58th minute. Sophomore keeper Jill Vaccaro made six saves in the match as the Greyhounds had a 22-9 advantage in shots.

Moravian had its unbeaten streak snapped at six matches as the Greyhounds fell to Messiah College, 4-0, in Commonwealth Conference action. Messiah scored three goals in the first half as the nationally ranked Falcons controlled the match with a 23-4 advantage in shots. Moravian sophomore goalie Jill Vaccaro made 14 saves in the loss.

Moravian saw its winning streak snapped at five straight contests but the Greyhounds have not lost in six consecutive contests after a 1-1 tie with Wilkes University in non-conference action. The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead just 59 seconds into the second half when junior midfielder Jackie Buschta found the back of the net off a pass from junior midfielder Michelle Gorman. Wilkes came back to tie the match in the 84th minute on a goal by senior forward/midfielder Holly Shiber off a direct kick by senior defender Tina Mooney. Moravian held an 18-7 advantage in shots but couldn't find the game winner in regulation or the two overtime session. Greyhound senior goalie Neali Miller made four saves in he first complete match of the season while Wilkes goalie junior Katie Green made nine saves in her second collegiate start.

The Greyhounds won their third straight match by shutout and extended their overall winning streak to five consecutive contests as Moravian shutout Juniata College, 2-0, to open the Commonwealth Conference season. Junior midfielder Faye Zaninelli broke a scoreless tie in the 71st minute when she beat Juniata goalie Kira Troutman and drove the ball off a Juniata defender and into the net. Junior midfielder Jackie Buschta scored the Greyhounds other goal in the 75th minute when she drove home a pass from freshman midfielder Kindal Estes. Moravian sophomore goalie Jill Vaccaro made two saves for her fourth shutout of the season.

At DeSales University – Won 3-0

Freshman forward Lindsay Pohl scored a hat trick and the Greyhounds extended their winning streak to four matches as Moravian defeated DeSales University, 3-0 in non-conference action. Pohl gave the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead in the tenth minute on an unassisted goal. Pohl's second tally was a rebound off a shot by junior midfielder Jackie Buschta in the 21st minute. Pohl finished off her hat trick in the 83rd minute as she put home another rebound, this one off a shot by junior midfielder Heather Bichler. Freshman midfielder Jessica Cordani also picked up an assist on Pohl's final goal. Sophomore keeper Jill Vaccaro made two saves in the match as Moravian had a 33-4 advantage in shots and a 14-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Vs. Alvernia College – Won 8-0

Moravian ran its winning streak to three straight matches an had eight different players score as the Greyhounds defeated Alvernia College, 8-0, in non-conference action. Moravian got the only goal it would need in the 24th minute as junior midfielder Jackie Buschta found the back of the net off a pass from freshman forward Lindsay Pohl. The Greyhounds would make the score 4-0 before halftime with goals by Pohl in the 27th minute, junior midfielder Heather Bichler in the 34th minute and junior midfielder Rachel Davy in the 43rd minute. Bichler assisted on Pohl's goal while junior forward Rori Franges set up Davy's tally. Franges would have one of the Greyhounds four goals in the second half, scoring an unassisted tally in the 78th minute. Junior defender Justina Bria started the second half scoring with a goal in the 57th minute while senior midfielder Kara Miller scored in the 76th minute and freshman midfielder Edna Snyder finished the scoring with an unassisted tally at the 87th minute mark. Snyder also had an assist as she set up Miller's goal. Moravian goalies senior Neali Miller and junior Kelly Wakeman each played one half but neither faced a shot as the Greyhounds out shot Alvernia 31-0 in the match.

The Greyhounds came from behind to defeat rival Muhlenberg College, 2-1 in overtime, in non-conference action and give Moravian its second straight victory. Trailing 1-0 with 20 minutes to play in the second half, junior midfielder Faye Zaninelli put home a rebound to tie the match at 1-1. Three minutes into the overtime session, freshman forward Megan Collins found the back of the net with the game-winner off a pass from freshman midfielder Kindal Estes. Moravian sophomore goalie Jill Vaccaro made three saves in the win as Moravian out shot the Mules, 11-7.  Moravian now has a 2-0 advantage in the annual Matte Award standings between the two schools.

Moravian scored three unanswered goals in the second half and sophomore goalie Jill Vaccaro made three saves for her second shutout of the season as the Greyhounds defeated Haverford College, 3-0, in non-conference action. Moravian dominated play throughout the match but wasn't able to get on the scoreboard until the 63rd minute when junior midfielder Jackie Buschta headed home a cross from junior defender Justina Bria. Less than a minute later, Bria sent freshman forward Megan Collins in on a breakaway to give the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead. Buschta would set up Moravian's final goal in the 70th minute that was a one-time shot from the top of the 18-yard box by freshman midfielder Jessica Cordani. The Greyhounds had a 19-3 advantage in shots and a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.

The Greyhounds suffered a 1-0 loss to FDU-Florham in their 2002 home opener on an own goal with 15 minutes remaining in the match. Moravian sophomore goalie Jill Vaccaro had one save in the match as the Greyhounds held a 10-1 advantage in shots and a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Vs. Eastern University at LPL Financial/Univ. of Scranton Invitational – Won 2-0

Moravian earned its first victory of the 2002 season with a 2-0 shutout of Eastern University in the second day of the LPL Financial/University of Scranton Invitational. The Greyhounds scored a pair of first half goals in the match with junior midfielder Faye Zaninelli connecting on a 21-yard blast from the right side set up by sophomore midfielder Kelly Haymaker in the 31st minute. The goal was Zanienlli's second of the season. Freshman forward Lindsay Pohl added a goal in the 39th minute off a pass from junior defender Heather Bichler. Sophomore goalie Jill Vaccaro made five saves for the first shutout of her career. Moravian had 18 shots in the match while Eastern had just eight shots.

Vs. Western Connecticut State University at LPL Financial/University of Scranton Invitational – Lost 3-1

The Greyhounds opened the 2002 season with a tough 3-1 loss to Western Connecticut State University, which was ranked 18th in the nation in the preseason, on the first day of the LPL Financial/University of Scranton Invitational. Moravian trailed 2-0 in the first half before junior Faye Zaninelli scored from 25 yards out on a direct kick. The Greyhounds had seven shots in the match and sophomore goalie Jill Vaccaro made eight saves in goal. Moravian will play Eastern College in the second round of the invitational on Saturday.
