At #1 Carnegie Mellon University in ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship Match - Lost 2-1      Box Score

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute but couldn't hold on as top seed and host Carnegie Mellon University rallied for a 2-1 victory over sixth seeded Moravian in the championship match of the 2003 ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Women's Soccer Championships. Junior forward Brianne DeVries found the back of the net off a pass from freshman defender Erin Gonda at 65:10 to give Moravian the lead. The goal was DeVries sixth tally of the season. The Tartans would tie the match at 1-1 in the 70th minute when sophomore midfielder/forward Kristin Bevilacqua-Linn, the tournament's Most Valuable Player, found the back of the net off a pass from freshman midfielder Ashley Mcmakin, who took a free kick near midfield after a Moravian yellow card. Mcmakin also set up Carnegie Mellon's game-winning goal in the 73rd minute by sophomore forward Hallie Dumont. The Tartans had an 18-4 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. Tartan junior goalie Megan Monroe had two saves in the contest while Greyhound junior goalie Jill Vaccaro made eight stops. Moravian completes the 2003 season with a 12-4-4 record.

Moravian moved into the championship match of the 2003 ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championships with a 1-0 victory over second seeded Lebanon Valley College in the semifinals. The Greyhounds, the sixth seed, will play top seed and host Carnegie Mellon University, a 2-0 winner versus fourth seed Gwynedd-Mercy College, in the championship match on Sunday. Junior forward Brianne DeVries scored off a pass from senior defender Jackie Buschta in the 61st minute for Moravian, her fifth goal of the season. It was also DeVries' fifth game-winning goal of the year. Moravian had a 10-3 advantage in shots and a 6-0 advantage on corner kicks. Greyhound junior goalie Jill Vaccaro made three saves for her ninth shutout of the season.

At #3 Johns Hopkins University in ECAC Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinals – Won 3-2 (2 overtimes)    Box Score

The Greyhounds won their first-ever match in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Mid-Atlantic Championships, earning a 3-2 double-overtime victory over third seed Johns Hopkins University in the quarterfinals. Moravian, the sixth seed, will now play second seeded Lebanon Valley College in the semifinals at Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, November 15th at 11:00 a.m. That meeting will be the third for the two schools this season with the Flying Dutchmen earning a 1-0 win in the Commonwealth Conference Semifinals and the squad playing to a 0-0 tie in the regular season. The Greyhounds, who are participating in the ECAC Championships for the first time in the ten-year history of the program, jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead in the victory over Johns Hopkins. Moravian scored first in the 25th minute when senior defender Jackie Buschta headed in a corner kick by sophomore forward Megan Collins. Collins would give the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead in the 42nd minute when she scored on a breakaway goal set up by sophomore forward Lindsay Pohl. The Blue Jays pulled within 2-1 in the 57th minute when Kathleen Turley scored off a pass from Laurie Baumann. Johns Hopkins tied the contest in the 85th minute when Kaitlin Giannetti headed in a crossing pass from Annie Colabella. Senior midfielder Heather Bichler scored the winning goal in the 105th minute off a pass from junior defender Kelly Haymaker. Moravian had a 9-7 advantage in shots in the contest with Greyhound junior goalie Jill Vaccaro making two saves for the victory. Johns Hopkins keeper Jen Goebel had three saves. In Wednesday's other quarterfinal match, fourth seed Gwynedd-Mercy College shut out fifth seeded Catholic University, 4-0, to advance to the semifinals against host and top seed Carnegie Mellon at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

At #2 Lebanon Valley College in Commonwealth Conference Semifinals – Lost 1-0     Box Score

Moravian was knocked out of the 2003 Commonwealth Conference Tournament with a 1-0 loss to second seeded Lebanon Valley College in a semifinal match. The Greyhounds, the third seed in the four-team tournament, out shot the Flying Dutchmen four to one in the second half but Lebanon Valley's only shot by Kim McDonald got past Moravian junior goalie Jill Vaccaro for the match's only goal in the 83rd minute. Katie Altemose assisted on the goal. Lebanon Valley had out shot Moravian 5-2 in the first half as both schools completed the match with six shots. Moravian had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks with all six coming in the second half while both of the Flying Dutchmen’s attempts were in the first 45 minutes. Vaccaro made three saves in the contest while Lebanon Valley keeper Jess Conrad had two saves. The two schools had played nearly 193 full minutes against each other this season without a goal after a scoreless, double-overtime tie in the regular season. Moravian must now wait until Monday, November 10th to see if the squad will receive the team's first-ever berth in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Mid-Atlantic Championships, which begin on Wednesday, November 12th.

The Greyhounds closed out the 2003 regular season with their third straight shutout, a 2-0 victory over Juniata College in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian scored the only goal it would need in the first half when freshman midfielder Kristina Adams scored off a pass from sophomore forward Megan Collins in the 28th minute. Collins would tally the Greyhounds other goal in the second half off an assist from senior midfielder Justina Bria in the 62nd minute. Moravian had a 13-3 advantage in shots with junior keeper Jill Vaccaro making one save for her eighth shutout of the season.

Vs. Muhlenberg College – Tied 0-0     Box Score

In a battle of two of the top teams in the Mid-Atlantic Region, Moravian and rival Muhlenberg College played to a scoreless tie in non-conference action. The match was played at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown due to rain and field conditions, and the contest was limited to just the regulation 90 minutes because of three high school district playoff contests on the same field later in the day. The Greyhounds, ranked eighth in the region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American and seventh by the NCAA, and the Mules, tied for fifth in the NSCAA poll and sixth in the NCAA rankings, each had seven shots in the match. Moravian senior goalie Kelly Wakeman made two saves while playing the first half of the contest while Greyhound junior keeper Jill Vaccaro didn't need to make a save in the second half to close out the shutout, the second this season the duo has combined on. Muhlenberg goalie Kayla Boisvert made four saves for the Mules. The Greyhounds had the best scoring chance in the match with just over two minutes remaining when junior defender Kelly Haymaker headed a corner kick by sophomore forward Megan Collins towards the goal but Boisvert grabbed the ball just before it went under the crossbar. The 0-0 tie was the fourth for Moravian this season. The tie also keeps the annual Matte Award standings between the two schools tied, now at 2.5 to 2.5.

The Greyhounds non-conference match with rival Muhlenberg College has been postponed due to inclement weather and poor field conditions. The match has been rescheduled for Wednesday, October 29th at 3:00 p.m. in Bethlehem.

Vs. Elizabethtown College – Won 4-0     Box Score

Moravian, ranked sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region in this week's NCAA regional rankings, clinched a berth in the 2003 Commonwealth Conference Playoffs with a 4-0 victory over Elizabethtown College in conference action. The win was the Greyhounds first-ever win against the Blue Jays in nine meetings. Elizabethtown had out scored Moravian 28-7 in the previous eight contests, scoring at least two goals in every match. In the victory, the Greyhounds scored the only goal they would need in the eighth minute when freshman midfielder Alisha Davy tapped in a crossing pass from junior forward Brianne DeVries for a 1-0 lead. Moravian added a goal in the 39th minute for a 2-0 halftime lead when sophomore forward Megan Collins pushed the ball across the goal line of a headed pass from DeVries. Freshman midfielder Kristina Adams had served the ball in the box to DeVries. Collins would tally another goal in the 52nd minute when she put home a crossing pass by DeVries. The Greyhounds closed out the scoring in the 87th minute when sophomore forward Lindsay Pohl headed home a cross from Davy. Moravian had a 10-4 advantage in shots in the match with junior goalie Jill Vaccaro making two saves for her seventh shutout of the season, breaking her own season mark of six set last year. The Greyhounds will return to the playoffs after missing out by one game last season. Moravian's victory also qualified Lebanon Valley College for the Commonwealth Conference Playoffs, leaving two spaces still to be filled.

In a battle of two of the top teams in the Mid-Atlantic Region, the Greyhounds allowed a pair of goals in the first 12:09 of the match to fall to the University of Scranton, 2-0, in non-conference action. The Royals were ranked first in the region by the NCAA and 15th in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America while the Greyhounds were ranked eighth in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the NCAA. Moravian dropped its first match in six contests, and the loss is just the Greyhounds second of the season. Scranton remained unbeaten in 17 contests. Moravian junior goalie Jill Vaccaro made one save while playing the first half of the match while senior keeper Kelly Wakeman had four saves in a scoreless second half. Scranton had a 12-2 advantage in shots.

The Greyhounds moved a step closer to clinching a berth in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs and remained unbeaten in their last five matches with a 2-0 victory over Susquehanna University in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian scored the only goal it would need in the 36th minute when freshman midfielder Kristina Adams tapped in a crossing pass from sophomore forward Lindsay Pohl after sophomore forward Megan Collins started the play. Collins would net the Greyhounds other goal with an unassisted breakaway shot from 18 yards out in the 77th minute. Moravian had a 13-12 advantage in shots with junior goalie Jill Vaccaro making seven saves for her third shutout of the week and her sixth of the season. Vaccaro has not allowed a goal in the last 334 minutes of action, her second streak of at least 332 minutes this season. Vaccaro didn't allow a goal in the team's first 332 minutes of the year.

In a battle of two of the top teams in the Mid-Atlantic Region, according to the first NCAA Regional poll released Wednesday, Moravian played to a scoreless tie at Lebanon Valley College, 0-0 in double overtime, in a Commonwealth Conference match. Moravian held a slight advantage in shots, 16-14, and Greyhound junior goalie Jill Vaccaro made five saves in the match. Vaccaro did not make a save in the overtime sessions. Moravian had 11 of its 16 shots end up on goal in the contest including four in overtime. The scoreless tie was the third for the Greyhounds this season.

The Greyhounds first goal came off the foot of freshman midfielder Alisha Davy off a pass from sophomore forward Megan Collins just 2:05 into the match. The goal was the first of Davy's Moravian career. Collins would score Moravian's other goal just over a minute later after being sent on a breakaway by freshman defender Erin Gonda. Moravian scored the first goal just 2:20 into the match when sophomore forward Megan Collins found the back of the net off a pass from senior midfielder Heather Bichler. The Greyhounds expanded their lead to 2-0 in the 8th minute on an unassisted goal by senior midfielder Justina Bria. Moravian's final goal came in the 27th minute when junior forward Brianne DeVries knocked in a rebound off a shot by sophomore midfielder Jessica Cordani that hit the crossbar. St. Mary's would score goals in the 40th and 48th minutes but the Greyhounds would hold on for the victory. The Greyhounds, playing for the first time in 13 days, looked rusty in the first half as the squad fell behind and had just one shot. However, the Greyhounds turned it on in the second half, out-shooting the Pioneers, 11-2. Senior midfielder Justina Bria tied the match in the 68th minute when she scored off a pass from sophomore midfielder Kindal Estes on a direct kick. The Greyhounds won the match with just 2:59 to play when sophomore midfielder Jessica Cordani scored on a penalty kick after a Widener foul in the box. Junior goalie Jill Vaccaro made just one save as Moravian had a 12-5 advantage in shots.

The Greyhounds opened their 2003 home season with a 6-0 non-conference victory over local rival DeSales University. The victory kept the Greyhounds unbeaten on the year. Moravian scored four first half goals to put the match away early. Sophomore midfielder Jessica Cordani scored a pair of goals and added two assists, while sophomore forward Megan Collins had two goals and one assist. Junior forward Brianne DeVries scored her third goal of the season, and it was her third game-winning goal of the year. DeVries also had two assists in the victory. Senior midfielder Justina Bria scored her first goal of the year in the match while junior defender Kelly Haymaker had an assist. Junior goalie Jill Vaccaro played 69 minutes to pick-up her third victory of the year. The Greyhounds trailed 1-0 at halftime before getting on the scoreboard in the 63rd minute on an unassisted goal by sophomore forward Megan Collins. In the 68th minute, Moravian took a 2-1 lead on a goal by junior forward Kelly Haymaker off a pass from sophomore forward Lindsay Pohl. The Aggies would tie the match in the 84th minute to force the overtime session, Moravian's third overtime match in four contests this year. The Greyhounds opened the 2003 season with a 0-0 double overtime tie at Drew University. Moravian out shot the host Rangers 7-5 but neither team was able to find the back of the net. The Greyhounds had the best chance to score in the second ten-minute overtime session when sophomore forward Lindsay Pohl was awarded a penalty kick with five minutes remaining. However, Drew keeper Danielle Vento came up with save to preserve the tie. Moravian goalie junior Jill Vaccaro made three saves in the contest while Vento had four stops. Drew also had an advantage on corner kicks, 4-2.
