2007 Review

The Moravian College women's soccer team completed the 2007 season with a 15-6-1 overall record and a 5-1-0 record in the newly created Landmark Conference. The Greyhounds made it to the Landmark Championship match losing to top seed The University of Scranton, 4-2; however, Moravian went on to earn a berth into the first round of the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. The Greyhounds are under the direction of ninth-year head coach Eric Lambinus.

Leading the Greyhounds was junior midfielder/forward Tracy Fitzpatrick (Wantage, NJ/High Point Regional HS), who missed all of the 2006 season with an injury after making the All-Region team as a freshman in 2005. Fitzpatrick, pictured at right, had 14 goals and five assists for a total of 33 points. Sophomore midfielder Alessandra Valdetara (Butler, NJ/Butler HS) hit the back of the net five times to go along with five assists for a total of 15 points on the year. Fitzpatrick and Valdetara were both named to the Landmark Women’s Soccer All-Conference First Team, while Fitzpatrick was named the Landmark Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year.

Freshman midfielder Nina Rizzo (Westmont, NJ/Haddon Township HS) contributed four goals and one assist while fellow freshman midfielder Shannon McEvoy (Lafayette, NJ/High Point Regional HS) put up three goals and two assists for a total of eight points in her season debut. Senior midfielder Allison Solomita (Chatham, NJ/Chatham HS) found the back of the net twice to go along with four assists in her last year as a Greyhound.

Senior midfielder Jill Newswanger (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove HS) netted three goals to go along with an assist while sophomore defender Terri Roberts (Danville, PA/Danville HS), who was named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team, scored two goals with one assist. Freshmen forwards Mallory Goggins (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Friends School) and Jenelle Mirro (Bath, PA/Notre Dame HS) each recorded two goals for the year with Goggins adding in an assist as well.

Sophomore defender Kathleen Wise (Ardsley, PA/Abington HS) had one goal and two assists while sophomore midfielders Amanda Friedman (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) and Brittany Deiling (Chews Landing, NJ/Triton Regional HS) and freshman midfielder Emily Rodriguez (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) each contributed one goal and one assist for the season.

Senior defender Robyn Klem (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS), who was named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team, was sidelined for part of the season due to an injury but helped lead the defense, while junior defender Katelyn Killea (Chatham, NJ/Chatham HS) netted a goal . Junior defender Alexandra Frascella (Chatham, NJ/Chatham HS) and sophomore midfielder JeriAnne Weiss (Allentown, PA/Salisbury HS) each contributed two assists while junior defender Georgia Castellano (Cherry Hills, NJ/Cherry Hills West HS) had one assist as well. Also contributing this year for the Greyhounds was freshman defender Kaitlyn Russell (South River, NJ/South River HS).

Time in goal was split between junior Caitlin Corrigan (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS) and freshman Sarah Halpin (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West). Corrigan, pictured at left, had a 0.79 goals against average, 81 saves, 11 shutouts, and an assist in 1936 minutes of action and also broke the career record for shutouts in a season with a total of 26. Halpin had one goal against and one save in 52 minutes of play. Corrigan was also named to the First Team All-Conference as well.

Fitzpatrick, Valdetara, Roberts, Newswanger, Solomita, Frascella, Deiling, Friedman, Weiss, and Wise were all named to the 2007 Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll while Fitzpatrick was named to the 2007 Landmark Conference Fall All-Academic Team.
