The Moravian College women’s soccer team completed the 2008 season with an overall record of 14-6-1 and a Landmark Conference record of 4-1-1. The Greyhounds became the first Moravian women’s soccer team to capture a conference championship when they defeated The Catholic University of America in the Landmark Championship match. The Greyhounds also earned their third NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament including the second straight season Moravian’s year ended in the NCAA Tournament under the direction of tenth-year coach Eric Lambinus.
Leading the Greyhounds was senior midfielder/forward Tracy Fitzpatrick (Wantage, NJ/High Point Regional HS), who had 11 goals and eight assists for a total of 30 points. Fitzpatrick was once again named the Landmark Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year and also earned First Team All-Conference Honors for the second straight season. Fitzpatrick also earned a spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/addidas All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team for the second time in her career. and she completed her career third all-time in scoring with 87 points on 33 goals, also third, and 21 assists, which is tied for second in the Moravian record books.
Freshman forward Arielle Caldas (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West HS), pictured at right, also had 11 goals this season and three assists totaling at 25 points. Of Caldas’s 11 goals, she netted five-game winning goals and was named Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year. Senior defender Katelyn Killea (Chatham, NJ/Chatham HS), pictured at bottom left, earned spots on both the Landmark All-Conference First Team and the NSCAA/addidas All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team while contributing a goal and an assist.
Junior midfielder Alessandra Valdetara (Butler, NJ/Butler HS) and sophomore forward Jenelle Mirro (Bath, PA/Notre Dame) both found the back of the net six times and four assists each, totaling at 16 points. Sophomore midfielder Shannon McEvoy (Lafayette, NJ/High Point HS) recorded two goals and three assists this season while junior forward Amanda Friedman (Randolph, NJ Randolph HS) contributed two goals and an assist.
Freshman midfielder Kim Gogel (Whippany, NJ/Whippany Park HS) had five assists on the season while junior midfielder JeriAnne Weiss (Allentown, PA/Salisbury HS) found the back of the net twice. Freshmen defenders Diana Feldmann (York, PA/Central York HS) and Elizabeth Brundage (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights HS) all had one goal this season with Brundage contributing one assist each and Feldmann with two.
Contributing one goal each this season was: junior midfielder Brittany Deiling (Chews Landing, NJ/Triton Regional HS), junior defender Terri Roberts (Danville, PA/Danville HS), and freshman defender Kim Mogg (Stamford, CT/West Hill HS). Also helping out scoring this season was senior defender Alexandra Frascella (Chatham, NJ/Chatham HS) who had three assists and senior goalie Caitlin Corrigan (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS) scoring one assist. Frascella was also named Landmark’s First Team All-Conference. In addition, other players seeing action this season were senior defender Georgia Castellano (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West HS) and freshman defender Kristin Popovice (Roseto, PA/Bangor HS).
Playing goalie this season were Corrigan, sophomore Sarah Halpin (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West HS) and freshman Mikki Ruvolis (Allentown, PA/Saucon Valley HS). Corrigan had a .71 goals against average, 94 saves, 8 shut outs and an one assist in 1,901 minutes of play. Corrigan graduated as the school’s all time leader in goalie victories with 51, and holds the record for most career shutouts with 34. Corrigan was also named Landmark First Team All-Conference. Halpin had six saves in 121 minutes of play and Ruvolis playing 66 minutes. The Greyhounds also had four team saves.
Fitzpatrick and Frascella were both named to the 2008 Landmark Conference Fall All-Academic Team, and the duo along with Deiling, Roberts, Valdetara, Wise, Weiss and Halpin earned spots on the 2008 Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.
