The Moravian College women’s soccer team dropped its 2009 season opener, falling to Ursinus College, 3-2, in non-conference match Tuesday afternoon.
Junior midfielder Tara Alberse put the Greyhounds on the scoreboard first in the eighth minute when she scored off of a free kick from sophomore forward Arielle Caldas.
The Bears would score the next three goals including two by Monica Oliveto. Katelyn Miller’s goal off a cross from Megan Ascanio in the 81st minute proved to be the difference when it gave Ursinus a 3-1 lead. The Bears had a 12-8 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge on corner kicks.
Caldas would net her first goal of the season in the 88th minute on a penalty kick but the Greyhounds were unable to tie the match.
Moravian junior goalie Sarah Halpin made six saves in just her second collegiate start while Justin Harvey had three saves for Ursinus.
