Vs. The University of Mary Washington in NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament First Round - Lost 6-0 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team dropped a 6-0 decision to 23rd-ranked The University of Mary Washington (VA) in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament in Pittsburgh Thursday afternoon in the Carnegie Mellon University Regional. The Landmark Conference Champion Greyhounds finish their 2010-11 season with an overall record of 10-7 after making their second appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

            The Eagles lead 3-0 after doubles action. Courtney Goimarac and Megan Lawlor defeated senior Kerry McKinley, pictured at right, and sophomore Chelsea Ott at first doubles, 8-2, while Michelle Meadows and Lindsay Raulston topped senior Elizabeth Endy and sophomore Stephanie Cox by the same score at second doubles. Jocelyn Lewis and Cassie Bowman posted an 8-4 win at third doubles for the Greyhound freshman duo of Katie Zien and Erica Venuti.

            Mary Washington then won the first three singles matches to finish to win the match. In the NCAA Tournament, matches are played until the winning team has recorded five points unless two matches end almost simultaneously. Zien dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Raulston at fourth singles while junior Brianna Kavanagh fell to Casey Malcolm at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-0. Cox fell to Meadows, 6-0, 6-1 at fifth singles in the final singles contest to be played to completion.

            When the match was finished, Ott led her first set against Goimarac, 5-3, at first singles while McKinley was trailing Lawlor, 6-0, 4-1, at second singles and Endy, pictured at left, was down to Lauren Gaspar at third singles, 6-0, 2-1.

Vs. The University of Scranton in Landmark Conference Championship Match - Won 5-4 - Box Score

            The second seeded Moravian College women’s tennis team defeated fourth seed The University of Scranton, 5-4, to win the 2011 Landmark Conference Championship Saturday afternoon at Hoffman Courts. With the win, the Greyhounds clinch the conference's automatic berth to the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championships with the field to be announced on Monday, May 9th.

            The conference title is the third Landmark Conference Championship for the Greyhounds and the program's 11th conference championship in the last 17 years under the direction of head coach Dawn Ketterman-Benner. Moravian has reached the conference title match in each of the last 17 seasons and is now 6-3 at Hoffman Courts with the title on the line. This also marked the sixth time that the Greyhounds and Royals have met for the conference championship with Moravian winning five of those matches.

            Moravian had a 2-1 lead after doubles action with a victories from senior Kerry McKinley and sophomore Chelsea Ott at first doubles, McKinley's 47th career win to move into second in school history, and freshman Katie Zien and Erica Venuti at third doubles. The team almost led 3-0 with senior Elizabeth Endy and sophomore Stephanie Cox dropping a 9-8 (7-5) decision at second doubles.

            The Greyhounds then won three of the singles matches to win the conference title. Ott won her first singles contest in straight sets for a 3-1 lead for Moravian; however, Scranton captured the next three matches to finish, third, fifth and sixth singles, to take a 4-3 lead. Zien would post a three-set win at fourth singles to tie the contest before McKinley captured the championship with a three-set win at second singles, her 52nd career win.

Vs. The Catholic University of America in Landmark Conference Semifinals - Won 5-4 - Box Score

            The second seeded Moravian College women’s tennis team earned a 5-4 win over third seed The Catholic University of America in the Landmark Conference Semifinals Wednesday afternoon in a match played indoors at the Lewis Tennis Center on the Goodman Campus of Lehigh University due to a threat of rain.

            The Greyhounds advance to the Landmark Conference Championship match for the fourth straight season, and Moravian is making its 17th consecutive trip to the conference finals. The Greyhounds will host the title match on Saturday, April 30th at 12:00 p.m. at Hoffman Courts against fourth seed The University of Scranton, which upset top seed Goucher College, 8-1, in Wednesday's other semifinal match.

            Moravian had a 2-1 lead after doubles action with a victories from senior Kerry McKinley, pictured at right, and sophomore Chelsea Ott at first doubles and freshman Katie Zien and Erica Venuti at third doubles.

            The Greyhounds then won three of the first four singles matches to be completed in the four-court Lewis Tennis Center to clinch the victory. Ott won in straight sets at first singles while McKinley won her 51st career match in straigh sets at second singles. Zien earned a straight sets win at fourth singles to help Moravian to the victory.

At Drew University - Won 7-2 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team closed out its 2010-11 regular season with a 7-2 Landmark Conference win at Drew University Monday. The Greyhounds will be the second seed when the 2011 Landmark Conference Tournament begins on Wednesday, April 27th.

            The Greyhounds had a 2-1 lead after doubles action with a victories from senior Kerry McKinley and sophomore Chelsea Ott at first doubles and freshman Katie Zien and Erica Venuti at third doubles.

            Moravian then won five of the six singles matches in straight sets to clinch the win. Ott, pictured at right, won at first singles while senior Elizabeth Endy captured a win at third singles. Zien was victorious at fourth singles while sophomore Stephanie Cox won at fifth singles. Junior Brianna Kavanagh finished the match with a win at sixth singles for the Greyhounds.

At Drew University - Postponed to April 25th

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team has had its final Landmark Conference match of the 2010-11 season scheduled for Saturday, April 23rd at Drew University postponed due to the weather forecast of rain all day. The match will be played on Monday, April 25th at 4:30 p.m.

At Ursinus College - Cancelled

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team has had its final non-conference match of the 2010-11 season scheduled for Tuesday, April 19th at Ursinus College cancelled due to the weather forecast of rain all day. The match will likely not be rescheduled this season.

At Goucher College - Lost 5-4 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team lost its first Landmark Conference match of the season in a battle of unbeaten conference teams, falling to Goucher College, 5-4, on Sunday. Despite the loss, Moravian still clinched a berth in the 2011 Landmark Conference Tournament, and can earn a home match in the semifinals with a win in its final regular season conference contest.

            The Greyhounds trailed 2-1 after doubles action with a win by senior Elizabeth Endy, pictured at right, and freshman Erica Venuti at third doubles.

            Moravian and Goucher split the doubles matches with each team winning three. Sophomore Chelsea Ott won at first singles in straight sets while freshman Katie Zien had a straight sets win at fourth singles. Junior Brianna Kavanagh also won in two sets at sixth singles.

At Goucher College – Postponed to April 17th

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team has had its Landmark Conference match at Goucher College for Saturday, April 16th postponed to Sunday, April 17th due to the weather forecast Saturday. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Vs. The University of Scranton - Won 6-3 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team remained undefeated in Landmark Conference action at 4-0 with a 6-3 win over The University of Scranton Thursday afternoon at Hoffman Courts, and the Greyhounds can clinch the top seed in the 2011 Landmark Conference Tournament with a win at Goucher College on Saturday.

            The Greyhounds led 2-1 after doubles action with victories from the team of sophomore Chelsea Ott and freshman Katie Zien at first doubles and senior Elizabeth Endy and freshman Erica Venuti at third doubles.

            Moravian would then win four of six singles matches to clinch the victory. Ott won in straight sets at first singles while Endy had a straight sets win at third singes and sophomore Stephanie Cox was victorious in two sets at fifth singles. Senior Kerry McKinley, pictured, won in three sets at second singles to become the seventh player in school history with 50 career singles victories.

Vs. The University of Scranton - Postponed to April 14th

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team has postponed its Landmark Conference match versus The University of Scranton scheduled for Wednesday, April 13th due to rain in the weather forecast. The match has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 14th at 3:30 p.m. at Hoffman Courts.

Vs. Haverford College - Lost 6-3 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team dropped its final match of the regular season at Hoffman Courts, falling to Haverford College, 6-3, Thursday afternoon.

            The Greyhounds led 2-1 after doubles action with victories from the team of junior Jami Fein and senior Kerry McKinley in a tiebreaker at first doubles and the duo of sophomore Chelsea Ott and freshman Katie Zien at second doubles.

            However, Moravian earned just one point in singles action with a straight sets victory by Ott, pictured at right, at first singles. Fein forced a tiebreaker in her first set at second singles for before falling. Senior Elizabeth Endy and junior Brianna Kavanagh each had one set go to a 7-5 socred in the matches.

At Susquehanna University - Won 7-2 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team remained undefeated in Landmark Conference action this season with a 7-2 victory at Susquehanna University in the squad's first road conference match of the year.

            The Greyhounds led 2-1 after doubles action with victories from the team of junior Jami Fein and senior Kerry McKinley, pictured at right, at first doubles and the duo of sophomore Chelsea Ott and freshman Katie Zien at second doubles. For McKinley, it was her 43rd career doubles win, moving her into third in school history.

            Moravian clinched the match with wins at the top five singles flights. Ott won in straight sets at first singles while Fein won in straight sets at second singles. McKinley had a straight sets win at third singles while senior Elizabeth Endy won in two sets at fourth singles. Zien picked up a straight sets win for Moravian at fifth singles.

Vs. Muhlenberg College - Lost 8-1 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team saw its three-match winning streak snapped with an 8-1 loss to rival Muhlenberg College in non-conference action at Hoffman Courts Tuesday afternoon.

            The Greyhounds lone point in the match came in doubles action with a victory by junior Jami Fein and senior Kerry McKinley, pictured at right, at first doubles. Muhlenberg captured the other two doubles contests.

            The Mules won all six matches with only one, Fein at second singles, going to a third set, after Fein won the opening set 6-2 before falling 6-4 in the second set. McKinley did force the first set of her third singles match into a tiebreaker before falling.

 

 

Vs. The Catholic University of America - Won 5-4 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team won its third straight match including its first at Hoffman Courts this season with a 5-4 Landmark Conference victory over visiting The Catholic University of America on a cold Saturday afternoon.

            The Greyhounds swept the doubles action with victories by the teams of junior Jami Fein and senior Kerry McKinley at first doubles, sophomore Chelsea Ott and freshman Katie Zien at second doubles and senior Elizabeth Endy and freshman Erica Venuti at third doubles.

            Moravian then won the top two singles matches in straight sets with victories by Ott, pictured at right, in first singles, and Fein at second singles to clinch the win. Catholic would win the other four singles contests with McKinley at third singles and sophomore Stephanie Cox at fifth single both forcing third sets in their matches.

Vs. Juniata College - Won 9-0 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team opened its 2011 Landmark Conference season with a 9-0 sweep of Juniata College in a match played at DeSales University.

            The Greyhounds earned all three points in the doubles action with victories by the teams of junior Jami Fein and senior Kerry McKinley, pictured at right, at first doubles, sophomore Chelsea Ott and freshman Katie Zien at second doubles and senior Elizabeth Endy and freshman Erica Venuti at third doubles.

            Moravian then swept the singles matches in straight sets. Ott earned a win at first singles while Fein won at second singles. McKinley was victorious at third singles while Endy won at fourth singles and Zien had a win at fifth singles. Sophomore Stephanie Cox won at sixth singles for the Greyhounds.

Vs. John Carroll (OH) University at Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head, SC - Won 7-2 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team closed out its trip to the 2011 Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head, South Carolina, with a 7-2 victory over John Carroll (OH) University Friday afternoon at Chaplin Park.

            The Greyhounds earned one point in the three doubles matches with a victory by sophomore Cheslea Ott, pictured at right, and freshman Katie Zien at second doubles. The Blue Streaks won the first and third doubles matches with the third double decided by an 8-6 score.

            Moravian then swept the singles matches for the victory. Ott won in straight sets at first singles as did junior Jami Fein at second singles. Senior Kerry McKinley needed three sets for her victory at third singles while senior Elizabeth Endy won in straight sets at fourth singles. Zien had a straight sets win at fifth singles for the Greyhounds while sophomore Stephanie Cox earned a staright sets victory at sixth singles.

Vs. Methodist (NC) University at Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head, SC - Lost 6-3 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team dropped its first match at the Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head, South Carolina, falling to Methodist (NC) University, 6-3, in a match that was delayed four hours due to rain.

            The Greyhounds earned one point in the three doubles matches with a victory by senior Elizabeth Endy, pictured at right, and sophomore Cheslea Ott at second doubles.

            Moravian earned its other two points in singles action. Ott posted a 9-8 (4) win at first singles for the Greyhounds while junior Jami Fein won at second singles. The squads place eight-game prosets in singles due to the weather delay at the start of the match.

Vs. Penn State University-Behrend at Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head, SC - Won 9-0 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team won its second straight match a the Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head, South Carolina, defeating Penn State University-Behrend, 9-0.

            The Greyhounds swept the doubles action with wins from the teams of junior Jami Fein and senior Kerry McKinleyat first doubles, senior Elizabeth Endy and sophomore Chelsea Ott, pictured at right, at second doubles and freshmen Erica Venuti and Katie Zien.

            Moravian then won all six singles matches in straight sets. Ott was victorious at first singles followed by Fein, McKinley, Endy and Zien. Sophomore Stephanie Cox earned the win for the Greyhounds at sixth singles.

Vs. Edinboro University of Pennsylvania at Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head, SC - Won 9-0 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team opened the 2011 spring portion of its schedule with a 9-0 win over NCAA Division II Edinboro University of Pennsylvania at the Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head, South Carolina to begin the team's Spring Break trip. The victory was the first dual meet win for Moravian this season, and it was the 250th career win for head coach Dawn Ketterman-Benner.

            The Greyhounds swept the doubles action with wins from the teams of junior Jami Fein and senior Kerry McKinley, pictured at right, at first doubles, senior Elizabeth Endy and sophomore Chelsea Ott at second doubles and freshmen Erica Venuti and Katie Zien

            Moravian then won all six singles matches in straight sets, dropping just four games as a team. Ott was victorious at first singles followed by Fein, McKinley, Endy and Zien. Junior Brianna Kavanagh earned the win for the Greyhounds at sixth singles.

Vs. Dickinson College - Lost 7-2 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women’s tennis team opened its 2010-11 home season with a 7-2 non-conference loss to Dickinson College at Hoffman Courts Saturday afternoon.

            The Red Devils had a 2-1 lead after doubles action.  The Greyhounds earned an 8-6 win at first doubles from the team of junior Jami Fein and senior Kerry McKinley, pictured at right.

            Dickinson then won five of six singles matches with Fein picking up the only win for Moravian at first singles with a three-set win, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).

 

At Muhlenberg College - Postponed to March 29th

            The Moravian College women's tennis team has had its non-conference match at rival Muhlenberg College for Thursday, September 30th postponed due to heavy rain forecasted in the Lehigh Valley. The contest has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. in Allentown.

At 2010 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional hosted by The University of Mary Washington - Individual Results - Box Score

            The Moravian College women's tennis team had five individuals compete at the 2010 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Mary Washington this weekend in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

            Senior Kerry McKinley, pictured, and junior Jami Fein both competed in the Championship Singles bracket with Fein being seeded ninth. In the opening round, McKinley fell to Amanda Bercovici from Washington College while Abby Clark of Johns Hopkins University defeated Fein. In the consolation bracket, Fein defeated Elaina Iosue from Salisbury University. McKinley and Fein also played in the Championship Doubles bracket, defeating Alexandra Ferrara and Katherine Wettick of Haverford College before falling to Jillian Poppe and Angela Tenaglia of Salisbury in the second round.

            Freshman Erica Venuti had the best singles results for the Greyhounds playin in the Blue 4 Singles bracket. Venuti had a straight sets win over Victoria Lussier of Franklin & Marshall Collge in the opening round, and she defeated Amanda Gorby from Bridgewater College in the quarterfinals. Venuti lost to eventual Blue 4 Singles winner Katie Brown of Grove City College in the semifinals. Venuti teamed up with fellow freshman Katie Zien to earn a win in the consolation quarterfinals of the Blue 3 Doubles bracket.

            Sophomore Stephanie Cox dropped a pair of singles contests in the Blue 5 Singles flight while Zien lost her only match in the Blue 3 Singles bracket.

At LaSalle University - Lost 5-1 - Box Score

            The Moravian College women's tennis team finally began its 2010-11 season dual match season, falling to NCAA Division I LaSalle University, 5-1, as the teams played by NCAA Division I rules that count the three doubles contests as one point.

            The Explorers jumped out to a 1-0 lead after doubles action. The closest doubles contest was at second doubles where Moravian freshmen Erica Venuti and Katie Zein forced a tiebreaker before falling 9-8 (9-7).

            Junior Jami Feinearned the Greyhounds only point in singles action with a 6-1, 7-6 (10-8) win at first singles. Junior Brianna Kavanagh's match at sixth singles was not finished due to darkness.

At Wilkes University - Cancelled

            The Moravian College women's tennis team has had its second straight dual match cancelled with no make-up date scheduled for the non-conference match at Wilkes University.

At LaSalle University - Postponed to September 20th

            The Moravian College women's tennis team had its 2010-11 season opening dual match at NCAA Division I LaSalle University postponed due to inclement weather. The contest has been rescheduled for Monday, September 20th at LaSalle.

At Ramapo College of New Jersey Invitational - Individual Results - Box Score

            The Moravian College women's tennis team began the 2010-11 season at the Ramapo College of New Jersey Invitational. The Greyhounds, the Roadrunners and Gwynedd-Mercy College played a flighted tournament with eight singles flights and four doubles flights. All of the contests were played as eight-game prosets in both singles and doubles

            The Greyhounds had three singles players win both of their matches with junior Kerry McKinley, pictured at right, earning two wins at second singles, freshman Kassie Ward at seventh single and freshman Oliva Sonnabend at eighth singles. Junior Jami Fein won her opening match at first singles before falling a tiebreaker in the second contest. Freshmen Katie Zien and Erica Venuti as well as junior Brianna Kavanagh each went 1-1 in singles action.

            In the doubles flights, Fein and McKinley won both of their matches at first doubles while Sonnabend and Kavanagh combined for a 1-1 mark at fourth doubles.
