At University of Scranton Lost 7-2
For the first time since September 13, 1997 the lady greyhounds lost
a tennis match falling to the University of Scraton 7-2 in the 1999
MAC Championship match. The loss also snaps Moravian's winning steak
after 47 consecutive wins and ends Moravian's three year reign as MAC
Champions. Earning victories in the match were junior Autumn Zander
in singles action and the doubles team of sophomores Katie Copf and
Lacey Leverberg.
Vs. Drew University Won 7-2 MAC Semifinals
Behind singles wins from junior Autumn Zander, sophomores Corinne
Kleinsmith, Katie Copf and Lacey Leverberg and freshman Jen Genevese,
the Lady Greyhounds advanced to the MAC Finals for the fourth straight
year with a 7-2 victory over Drew University. Moravian, the three-time
defending MAC Champions also received doubles victories from the teams
of Copf and Leverberg and Kleinsmith and senior Marnie Heller.
At Allentown College Won 8-1
The Lady Greyhounds finished their second straight undefeated regular
season with an 8-1 victory over Allentown College in Middle Atlantic
Conference action. Winning in singles action were senior Marnie Heller,
junior Autumn Zander, sophomores Corinne Kleinsmith, Katie Copf, Lacey
Leverberg and freshman Jen Genevese. Moravian received doubles wins
from the teams of Heller and Kleinsmith and senior Lyn Ramsey and Courtney
Rice. The victory was Moravians 46th consecutive win while Kleinsmith
finished the regular season at 15-0 in singles play. It is the fifth
straight season Moravian has had an undefeated singles player.
At FDU-Madison Won 9-0
For the sixth time in 1999, the Lady Greyhounds won a match with a
9-0 sweep, defeating FDU-Madison in Middle Atlantic Conference action.
In singles play, Moravian had victories from senior Marnie Heller,
sophomores Katie Copf and Lacey Leverberg and freshmen Jen Genevese,
Missy Graeff and Jillian Simms. Leverberg and Genevese combined for
a doubles victory as did senior Lyn Ramsey and junior Courtney Rice
and the sister combination of Jillian Simms and sophomore Julie Simms.
Moravian is now 15-0 on the season and has won 45 consecutive matches.
Vs. Lebanon Valley College Won 6-3
For the second consecutive season, Moravian posted a 7-0 regular season
record in the MAC Commonwealth Conference with a 6-3 victory over Lebanon
Valley College in MAC Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian had
already won its second straight MAC Commonwealth Conference title.
The three-time defending MAC Champions are trying to finish their second
straight undefeated regular season. Moravian has two matches left this
season. Winning in singles action for the Greyhounds were sophomores
Corinne Kleinsmith, Katie Copf and Lacey Leverberg. Moravian, now 14-0
on the season and winners of 44 consecutive matches, swept the doubles
action with Kleinsmith winning with partner, senior Marnie Heller,
Leverberg earning a victory with freshman Jen Genevese and the due
of senior Lyn Ramsey and junior Courtney Rice earning the other victory.
At Muhlenberg College Won 6-3
Behind singles wins from junior Autumn Zander, sophomores Corinne
Kleinsmith, Katie Copf and Lacey Leverberg and freshman Jen Genevese,
Moravian earned a 6-3 victory over Muhlenberg College in non-conference
action. Moravian also had doubles victories from the teams of senior
Marnie Heller and Kleinsmith and Leverberg and Genevese. The win was
the 43rd in a row for the Lady Greyhounds.
Vs. Kings College Won 9-0
For the sixth time in 1999, every player who stepped on the court
for the Lady Greyhounds picked up a victory as Moravian swept Kings
College, 9-0. Winning in singles action were senior Marnie Heller,
sophomores Corinne Kleinsmith, Katie Copf and Lacey Leverberg and freshmen
Jen Genevese and Missy Graeff. Earning doubles wins were the tandems
of senior Lyn Ramsey and junior Courtney Rice, sophomore Julie Simms
and her sister freshman Julie Simms and freshmen Erin Oney and Lea
Zigler.
At Messiah College Won, 6-3
The Lady Greyhounds earned their fourth consecutive Middle Atlantic
Conference playoff appearance with a 6-3 victory over Messiah College.
Senior Marnie Heller, sophomores Corinne Kleinsmith and Lacey Leverberg
and freshman Jen Genevese each captured singles wins for Moravian.
Junior Autumn Zander and sophomore Katie Copf each suffered their first
singles loss of the season in the match. Heller and Kleinsmith combined
for one doubles victory for the Lady Greyhounds while senior Lyn Ramsey
and junior Courtney Rice had the other doubles win to stay undefeated
on the season.
Vs. Elizabethtown College Won 7-2
Junior Autumn Zander and sophomores Corinne Kleinsmith, Katie Copf
and Lacy Leverberg each scored singles victories to lead the Lady Greyhounds
to their 10th victory of 1999 and 40th consecutive
win with a 7-2 victory over Elizabethtown College. Kleinsmith teammed
with senior Marnie Heller for a doubles win while Leverberg competed
with freshman Jen Genevese for a double victory. Senior Lyn Ramsey
and junior Courtney Rice stayed undefeated with a doubles win.
Vs. Kutztown University Won 6-0
Senior Marnie Heller, junior Autumn Zander, sophomores Corinne Kleinsmith,
Katie Copf and Lacey Leverberg and freshman Jen Genevese each captured
singles victories to lift the Lady Greyhounds to a 6-0 victory over
NCAA Division II Kutztown University. The three doubles matches were
cancelled due to rain.
Vs. Juniata College Won 6-3
Behind singles wins from junior Autumn Zander, sophomores Corinne
Kleinsmith, Katie Copf and Lacey Leverberg and freshman Jen Genevese,
the Moravian College womens tennis team captured a 6-3 victory
over Juniata College in MAC Commonwealth Conference action. Winning
in doubles action was the team of senior Lyn Ramsey and junior Courtney
Rice. The win lifts the Lady Greyhounds to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the
MAC Commonwealth Conference.
Vs. East Stroudsburg University Won 9-0
The Lady Greyhounds extended their winning streak to 37 straight matches
with a 9-0 sweep of NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg University of
Pennsylvania. Winning in singles action were sophomores Corinne Kleinsmith,
Julie Simms, Katie Copf and Lacey Leverberg and freshmen Missy Graeff
and Jen Genevese. Doubles wins came from the teams of Senior Lyn Ramsey & junior
Courtney Rice, Kleinsmith & Simms and Copf & Graeff.
Vs. Albright College - Won 5-4
With singles wins by junior Autumn Zander, sophomore Corinne Kleinsmith
and freshman Jen Genevese, the womens tennis team captured a
5-4 victory over Albright College. The match was a battle of the top
two teams in the MAC Commonwealth Conference. Albright was 5-0 overall
on the year and 2-0 in the MAC Commonwealth. Moravian entered the match
with an identical record but also owned 35-match winning streak and
has won the last three Middle Atlantic Conference Championships. Albright
was leading the contest after the three doubles prosets, 2-1 and was
ahead after three singles matches, 4-2. Zander playing sixth singles
pulled the Lady Greyhounds within one and Genevese tied the match at
4-4. Kleinsmith won the deciding match in the third set, 6-3, 4-6,
6-1. Also earning victories for Moravian were sophomore Katie Copf
in singles and the duo of senior Lyn Ramsey and junior Courtney Rice
in doubles.
Vs. Albright College - PPD
The womens tennis match against Albright College was postponed
due to inclement weather. It has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September
22nd at 3:30 p.m.
Vs. Widener University Won 7-2
Moravian kept its winning streak alive with a 7-2 victory over Widener
University in MAC Commonwealth Conference action. Earning victories
in singles action were senior Marnie Heller, junior Autumn Zander and
sophomores Katie Copf, Lacey Leverberg and Corinne Kleinsmith. Heller
and Kleinsmith combined for a doubles win as did the duo of senior
Lyn Ramsey and junior Courtney Rice.
Vs. Kutztown University of Pennsylvania postponed
The womens tennis match was postponed to Tuesday, September
28th at 4:00 p.m. due to Hurricane Floyd.
At Susquehanna University Won 9-0
For the third time in four matches, the Lady Greyhounds posted a 9-0
victory, defeating Susquehanna University in MAC Commonwealth Conference
action. Moravian, which has won 34 straight matches, received singles
victories from senior Marnie Heller, junior Autumn Zander, sophomores
Corinne Kleinsmith, Katie Copf and Lacey Leverberg and freshman Jen
Genevese. Winning in doubles were Heller & Kleinsmith, Genevese & Leverberg
and junior Courtney Rice and senior Lyn Ramsey.
At Drew University Won 7-2
Moravian won its third match of 1999 and its 33rd in a
row with a 7-2 victory over Drew University. Earning victories in singles
action were junior Autumn Zander, sophomores Corinne Kleinsmith and
Katie Copf and freshman Jen Genevese. Double victories came from the
teams of senior Marnie Heller & Kleinsmith, Genevese & Copf
and junior Courtney Rice and senior Lyn Ramsey.
Vs. Eastern College Won 9-0
The Lady Greyhounds won their second match of 1999 by the final of
9-0 over Eastern College. Moravian, which has won 32 straight matches,
received singles victories from senior Marnie Heller, junior Autumn
Zander, sophomores Corinne Kleinsmith, Katie Copf and Lacey Leverberg
and freshman Jen Genevese. Winning in doubles were Heller & Kleinsmith,
Genevese & Leverberg and junior Courtney Rice and senior Lyn Ramsey.
Vs. Cedar Crest College Won 9-0
The Lady Greyhounds opened the 1999 season with their 31st straight
win, sweeping Cedar Crest, 9-0. Winning in singles were senior Marnie
Heller, junior Autumn Zander, sophomores Katie Copf, Corrine Kleinsmith
and Lacey Leverberg and freshman Jen Genevese. In double action, the
teams of Genevese and Leverberg, Courtney Rice and Lyn Ramsey and Julie
and Jillian Simms also earned wins.
