Expectations are high for the 2009-10 Moravian College women’s tennis team as the Greyhounds look to defend their Landmark Conference championship title from last season. In 2008-09, Moravian dominated opponents as the Greyhounds made it to their 15th straight conference title match, earning an 8-1 win over Goucher College for the program's tenth conference championship.
The Greyhounds were 14-5 overall in 2008-09 under the direction of head coach Dawn Ketterman-Benner, and the team went a perfect 6-0 in Landmark Conference action for the second straight season. The Greyhounds are returning six letterwinners from last year’s championship squad including five starters.
Leading Moravian into the 2008-09 season will be sophomore Jami Fein (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon HS), who posted an 18-2 overall singles mark, a conference record of 6-0, and a first singles mark of 14-2. Fein was named the 2009 Landmark Conference Player of the Year, as well as the 2009 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year while earning a spot on the Landmark All-Conference First Team for singles. Fein had an overall doubles mark of 14-5 and a conference record of 5-1 earning a spot as on the Landmark All-Conference First Team in doubles.
Junior Kerry McKinley (Sparta, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS), pictured at right, the 2008 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year, finished the year with a 20-2 overall record in singles and a fourth singles mark of 18-1 that set a new single season school record for victories earning her a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team.
Sophomore Alexandra Hay (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South HS) closed out her debut season with a record of 15-7 and a conference mark of 5-2 while classmate Anna Meola (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland HS) posted a 7-2 mark with a 3-1 conference record.
Junior Elizabeth Endy (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin HS) was 3-1 in singles action. In doubles, Meola had a 9-9 mark while Hay was 2-1 in doubles action.
Two newcomers who will have an immediate impact on the team are Lehigh Valley standout Chelsea Ott (Whitehall, PA/Allen HS) and Alex Van Buskirk (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg HS).
Coach Ketterman-Benner returns nearly all of her players and is looking to defend her Landmark Championship title going into the 2009-10 season. The Greyhounds get their season started in the fall when they host the Moravian Invitational on Saturday, September 5th at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus.
