A top 25 finish at the 2001 NCAA Division III National Championships and a ninth straight Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championship highlighted the season for Moravian under the direction of head coaches Doug Pollard and Mark Will-Weber.
Junior Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic, PA) earned All-America accolades at the NCAA Championships as she placed fourth in the 1,500-meter final in a time of 4:36.07, just 0.55 of a second out of first place. She had the fastest qualifying time in the preliminaries. Wolfsberger also earned All-America honors when she placed fourth in the 3,000-meter final with a time of 9:52.51.
Junior Jennifer Lohn (Media, PA) competed at the National Championships and placed 13th of 19 overall and fourth in her preliminary flight in the javelin with a toss of 126 feet, one inch (38.44 meters). Other Greyhounds that competed at the National Championships were Kim Jaick (Coopersburg, PA), who competed in the 3,000 meters with Wolfsberger, placing 16th overall in a time of 10:15.94 and junior Emily Shertzer (Hummelstown, PA), who placed 15th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 37:06.37 in the finals.
At the MAC Championships, Moravian had an outstanding first day with four champions in eight events. Wolfsberger won the 3,000 meters in 10:13.00 while Shertzer captured the 10,000 meters in 39:57.35. Senior Brooke Dancho (Bethlehem, PA) won the heptathlon with a score of 2,614 points while junior Sarah Shaneberger (Bethlehem, PA) was first in the shot put at 38 feet, four inches (11.68 meters).
Wolfsberger placed second in the 10,000 meters in 40:00.38 while Jaick was second in the 3,000 meters in 10:31.06 and junior Erin Boyle (Philadelphia, PA) placing third in 11:00.32. Senior Kate Westermann (Milford, CT) was tenth in the 10,000 meters in 46:55.12 while Shaneberger was second in the discus at 119 feet, 10 inches (36.52 meters).
Junior Carrie McCaffery (Lebanon, PA) was third in the discus at 117 feet, 10 inches (35.92 meters) and third in the shot put at 35 feet, 9 1/4 inches (10.90 meters). Freshman Nicole Sabaliauskas (Butler, NJ) placed second in the heptathlon with 2,554 points while freshman Shannon McNeil (Reading, PA) was sixth at 2,178 points. Senior Leah Williams (Andreas, PA) placed tenth in the high jump at four feet, seven inches (1.40 meters).
Wolfsberger continued to lead the Greyhounds, earning two more individual titles on the second day of the championship, winning the 800 meters in 2:19.89 and capturing the 1,500 meters in 4:42.57. Moravian had three other first place winners on day two with Shertzer earning her second win of the meet, this one in the 5,000 meters in 18:43.89. Lohn won the javelin with the a MAC record and NCAA Division III automatic qualifying distance of 134 feet, nine inches (41.08 meters). Shaneberger also won her second title of the meet, capturing the hammer throw with a MAC record toss of 125 feet, five inches (38.21 meters).
Other top ten finishers for the Greyhound included freshman Jaime Marks (Macungie, PA) placing eighth in the 400 meters in 1:03.74, junior Amanda Samok (Palmerton, PA) taking second in the 800 meters in 2:24.50 and junior Jennifer Burkholder (Chalfont, PA) placing third in the 200 meters at 2:25.98. Boyle was sixth in the 800 in 2:27.65 and junior Tiffany Catalino (Bethlehem, PA) placing eighth in 2:34.01.
Jaick placed second in the 1,500 meters in 4:46.80 and Boyle taking third in 4:53.50. Catalino placed sixth in the 1,500 meters in 5:10.17 and freshman Robin Edward (Massapequa, NY) placing eighth in 5:11.56. Jaick also placed second in the 5,000 meters in 19:07.41. Junior Steph Horne (Sinking Spring, PA) placed second in the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.26 seconds and she was also second in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 1:05.87. The Greyhounds 4x400-meter relay team of Samok, Marks, Burkholder and sophomore Ann Corless (Plainville, CT) placed fifth in 4:12.57 while the 4x100-meter relay squad of Horne, Corless, Dancho and Sabaliauskas placing seventh in 53.73. McCaffery placed second in the javelin in 120 feet, four inches (36.68 meters) and she was third in the hammer throw at 117 feet, nine inches (35.90 meters).
