At NCAA Championships - Tied for 9th of 78 - Final Day Results

Sophomore Christina Scherwin became Moravian's seventh Individual National Champion and the first in a field event after capturing first place in the javelin throw at the 2002 NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Macalester College. Moravian tied for ninth place out of 78 teams that scored points in their top finish since 1994. Scherwin, who is the third female in Moravian history to win a national championship, had a winning throw of 51.69 meters (169 feet, seven inches). Senior Jennifer Lohn also competed in the javelin and placed fifth in the second flight with a throw of 36.52 meters (119 feet, 10 inches). Scherwin also competed in the shot put on in the final day of the competition and placed ninth in the second flight with a toss of 13.00 meters (42 feet, 8 inches). In other field events, freshman Kirsten Rotzell took ninth place in the second flight of the triple jump with a distance of 11.35 meters (37 feet, 3 inches) in her first trip to the national championships. On the track, seniors Erin Boyle and Heidi Wolfsberger competed in the finals of the 1,500 meters. Wolfsberger placed second with a time of 4:36.78 to earn All-America accolades while Boyle was 11th with a time of 4:47.48. Wolfsberger's runner-up finish was her third in the 1,500 meters over the last three years and her fifth overall in NCAA track & field and cross country competition.

At NCAA Championships - Second Day Results

Senior Emily Shertzer placed seventh in the inaugural 3,000-meter steeplechase on the second day of the 2002 NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Macalester College. Shertzer ran a time of 11:04.25 and earned All-American honors for her top eight finish.

At NCAA Championships - First Day Results

Senior Kim Jaick placed 17th in the finals of the 10,000 meters the first day of competition at the 2002 NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Macalester College. Jaick ran a time of 37:13.22. Seniors Erin Boyle and Heidi Wolfsberger both competed in the trials of the 1,500 meters. Boyle ran a time of 4:44.61 and placed eighth in the first heat of the trials. Her time moved her into Saturday's championship race. Wolfsberger posted a time of 4:44.73 and placed second in the second preliminary heat to move into Saturday's championship race.

At McElligott Invitational at Haverford College - No Team Scores

Moravian sent four individuals to the McElligott Invitational hosted by Haverford College to improve on provisional qualifying standards for the upcoming NCAA Division III National Championships. Senior Heidi Wolfsberger did improve her time in the 1,500 meters to 4:38.70, the best time by a Moravian runner this season and good enough for third place in the event. Senior Erin Boyle ran a time of 4:44.84 and placed sixth in the race. Senior Carrie McCaffery won the javelin with a throw of 37.20 meters (122 feet) but was short of the qualifying standard. Senior Sarah Shaneberger took second in the shot put with a toss of 12.87 meters (42 feet, 2 3/4 inches) but did not improve on her best throw of the year.

At Jim Tuppeny Twilight Meet at Villanova University - No Team Scores

The Greyhounds had two first place finishers at the Jim Tuppeny Twilight Meet hosted by Villanova University. Senior Emily Shertzer won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 11:15.3 while senior Kim Jaick captured first in the 5,000 meters in a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 17:48.5. Senior Heidi Wolfsberger won her heat of the 1,500 meters in a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:39.70 while senior Erin Boyle was sixth in the heat in 4:56.55. Senior Carrie McCaffery took sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 39.84 meters (130 feet, eight inches) and she was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 36.71 meters (120 feet, five inches). Senior Jennifer Lohn placed third in the javelin at 37.12 meters (121 feet, nine inches).

At MAC Championships – First Place of 11 teams - Final Day Results

Moravian captured its tenth straight Middle Atlantic Conference Championship, defeating runner-up and host Susquehanna University by 103 points (208 to 105) in the 2002 Middle Atlantic Conference meet. The Greyhounds had two individual champions on the third day of competition with both student-athletes winning their second titles of the meet. Sophomore Christina Scherwin captured the javelin with a MAC record and NCAA Division III automatic qualifying distance of 50.19 meters (164 feet, eight inches) while senior Sarah Shaneberger won the hammer throw with a MAC record toss of 40.67 meters (133 feet, five inches). Scherwin also won the shot put at the MAC Championships while Shaneberger was first in the discus.

Senior Carrie McCaffery tied Shaneberger in distance in the hammer throw but took more attempts to get 40.67 meters so she placed second. McCaffery was also fifth in the javelin with a toss of 38.04 meters (124 feet, ten inches) while senior Jennifer Lohn placed second in the javelin with a NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 38.79 meters (127 feet, three inches). Freshman Julie Anderson took sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 31.49 meters (103 feet, four inches) while sophomore Alicia Fowler was seventh at 30.20 meters (99 feet, one inch). Freshman Kirsten Rotzell placed second in the long jump with a leap of 5.19 meters (17 feet, 1/2 inch) while sophomore Nicole Sabaliauskas was tenth at 4.54 meters (14 feet, 10 3/4 inches).

In track events on the final day of the MAC Championships, senior Erin Boyle placed second in the 1,500 meters in a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:39.23 while senior Heidi Wolfsberger was third with a provisional qualifying time of 4:42.47. Wolfsberger also took third in the finals of the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.88 while Boyle was sixth in 2:22.34. Other Moravian finishers in the 1,500 meters included senior Kim Jaick in eighth place with a time of 4:58.66, senior Tiffany Catalino in ninth at 5:08.47 and sophomore Robin Edward in 13th at 5:17.86. Freshman Chelsea Mullins placed fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:44.49 while Jaick was ninth in 19:35.21. Sophomore Jen Brief placed 14th in 20:34.20 and freshman Meghan Krebs was 14th in 21:05.29.

Senior Steph Horne was third in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.90 seconds and she placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdle finals at 1:10.48. Rotzell was sixth in the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 12.91 while senior Amanda Samok took eight in the 400-meter finals with a time of 1:03.89.

Moravian's 4x400-meter relay team of Horne, Samok, Krebs and senior Jen Boberg placed eighth in a time of 4:19.48.

At MAC Championships – First Place - Second Day Results

The Greyhounds had four individual champions and extended their lead to almost 80 points on the second day of competition as Moravian vies for its tenth straight conference title at the 2002 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships hosted by Susquehanna University. Senior Emily Shertzer won her second MAC title of the meet, winning the inaugural 3,000-meter steeplechase race in a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 11:25.90. Sophomore Christina Scherwin won the shot put in a MAC record distance of 13.28 meters (43 feet, seven inches), also a NCAA provisional qualifying distance. Freshman Kirsten Rotzell captured first in the triple jump with a MAC record and NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 11.65 meters (38 feet, 2 3/4 inches) while senior Sarah Shaneberger took first place in the discus with a toss of 38.91 meters (127 feet, eight inches).

Shaneberger also took second in the shot put at 12.66 meters (41 feet, 6 1/2 inches), a NCAA provisional qualifying standard. Senior Carrie McCaffery was fourth in the discus at 33.71 meters (110 feet, seven inches) and fourth in the shot put at 11.04 meters (36 feet, 2 3/4 inches). Sophomore Alicia Fowler was seventh in the discus with a throw of 32.90 meters (107 feet, 11 inches) while freshman Julie Anderson took tenth in 30.04 meters (98 feet, seven inches). Junior Amanda Wynn placed fourth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 2.88 meters (nine feet, 5 1/4 inches).

In other track events, senior Tiffany Catalino was third in the steeplechase with a time of 12:19.22 while freshman Alison Stoyko was ninth in 12:54.78. In trial events, senior Erin Boyle was first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.90. Senior Heidi Wolfsberger was third in 2:23.87 and qualified for the finals. Senior Jen Boberg was 15th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:29.61 while freshman Kellie Smith was 16th in 2:34.97 and freshman Sarah Krebs was 22nd in 2:44.49. Senior Steph Horne was second in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.51 seconds and she was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.22.  Horne qualifies for the finals in both events. Senior Amanda Samok qualified for the finals of the 400 meters after finishing seventh in the qualifying with a time of 1:03.02. Rotzell qualified for the finals of the 100 meters with a fifth place finish in the 100 meters in 12.69 seconds and she took 14th in the 200-meter trials in 26.62 seconds.

In the heptathlon, sophomore Nicole Sabaliauskas finished second with 3,264 points while freshman Ann Guzevich was sixth with 2,414 points.

At MAC Championships – First Place - First Day Results

Moravian senior Emily Shertzer captured first place in the 10,000 meters for the fourth time in her career on the first day of the 2002 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships hosted by Susquehanna University. Shertzer won her fourth gold medal in the event with a time 39:17.76. The Greyhound are in first place after the first day of competition as the squad earned 28 points in the 10,000 meters. Junior Jen Wagner was second in 39:45.00 while freshman Chelsea Mullins was fourth in 41:08.67, sophomore Angie Morgan was fifth in 42:14.49 and freshman Holly Bofinger was eighth in 43:37.39. After the first four events of the heptathlon, sophomore Nicole Sabaliauskas is in second place with a total of 1,961 points, just 14 points out of first place. Sabaliauskas won the 100-meter hurdle event. Freshman Ann Guzevich is in sixth place with 1,344 points.

At 108th Penn Relays – No Team Scores - Final Day Results

Moravian's only competitors on the final day of the 108th Penn Relays at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania was the Greyhounds' 4x800-meter relay team. The quartet of senior Erin Boyle and Heidi Wolfsberger, junior Jennifer Wagner and freshman Heather McGarvie posted a time of 9:39.81 in the 4x800-meter relay college women's championship.

At 108th Penn Relays – No Team Scores - Second Day Results

Freshman Kirsten Rotzell finished 15th in the college women triple jump (Eastern) with a leap of 11.20 meters (36 feet, nine inches) on the second day of the 108th Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania. Rotzell was Moravian's only competitor of the day.

At 108th Penn Relays – No Team Scores - First Day Results

Sophomore Christina Scherwin captured first place in the college women javelin championship throw to lead Moravian on the first day of the 108th Penn Relays hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. Scherwin recorded a winning throw of 52.86 meters (173 feet, five inches), 2.84 meters ahead of the next finisher. Senior Kim Jaick placed 27th in the women's Olympic development 5,000-meter race with a time of 17:58.63 while senior Emily Shertzer placed 23rd in the college women 10,000-meter championship race with a school record time of 36:19.74. The Greyhounds' 4x400-meter relay team of seniors Erin Boyle, Steph Horne and Amanda Samok and freshman Heather McGarvie was 13th in the college women MAC race with a time of 4:17.96.

At Lafayette Invitational – No Team Scores

The Greyhounds had three first place finishers, five NCAA Division III provisional qualifiers, seven Eastern College Athletic Conference qualifiers and eight top six finishers at the Lafayette College Invitational. Senior Emily Shertzer won the 5,000 meters in a NCAA and ECAC qualifying time of 17:42.75 while senior Kim Jaick won the 3,000 meters in 10:20.13. Sophomore Christina Scherwin captured first place in the shot put with a NCAA and ECAC qualifying toss of 13.22 meters (43 feet, 4 1/4 inches). Senior Sarah Shaneberger was right behind Scherwin in the shot put in second place with a NCAA and ECAC qualifying throw of 12.95 meters (42 feet, six inches. Shaneberger placed fifth in the hammer throw with an ECAC qualifying and Moravian record toss of 41.61 meters (136 feet, six inches). Senior Erin Boyle placed fourth in the 1,500 meters with a NCAA and ECAC qualifying time of 4:40.94 while senior Tiffany Catalino as fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an ECAC qualifying standard of 12:34.44. Freshman Chelsea Mullins took fifth in the 5,000 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 18:45.96.

In other track events, freshman Kirsten Rotzell qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 100 meters with a time of 13.22 seconds and in the 200 meters with a time of 27.31 seconds. Senior Steph Horne also ran a 13.22-second race in the 100 meters to qualify for the ECAC meet and she also posted an ECAC qualifying time of 15.64 second in the 100-meter hurdles. Horne had a time of 27.88 seconds in the 200 meters. Sophomore Nicole Sabaliauskas ran 14.44 seconds in the 100 meters and 30.31 seconds in the 200 meters. Freshman Ann Guzevich had a time of 29.52 seconds in the 200 while senior Amanda Samok posted a 1:02.53 in the 400 meters. Guzevich also had a throw of 6.62 meters (21 feet, 8 1/2 inches) in the shot put.

In the distance events, junior Jen Wagner ran an ECAC qualifying time of 2:21.2 in the 800 meters while freshman Kellie Smith posted a 2:28.2, senior Jen Boberg had a 2:35.2 and freshman Sarah Krebs had a time of 2:46.11. Freshman Heather McGarvie qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 1,500 meters with a time of 448.54 while senior Heidi Wolfsberger qualified with a time of 4:50.79. Sophomore Robin Edward posted a time of 5:37.38 in the race. Freshman Megan Wise had a time of 11:09.20 in the 3,00 meters while sophomore Jen Brief had an 11:53.91 and freshman Meghan Krebs posted a 12:11.92. Sophomore Angie Morgan qualified for the ECAC Meet in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:18.87 while freshman Holly Bofinger ran a 19:57.44. Freshman Alison Stoyko had a time of 12:59.97 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Shaneberger also qualified for the ECAC Championships in the discus with a toss of 33.77 meters 110 feet, nine inches). Senior Carrie McCaffery also had a throw of 33.77 meters in the discus and she added tosses of 38.22 meters (125 feet, five inches) in the hammer throw, 11.10 meters (36 feet, five inches) in the shot put and 32.65 meters (107 feet, one inch) in the javelin. Senior Jen Lohn had an ECAC qualifying toss of 35.15 meters (115 feet, four inches) in the javelin. Sophomore Amanda Wynn cleared nine feet in the pole vault while sophomore Alicia Fowler had a 28.24 meter toss (92 feet, eight inches) in the hammer throw and a distance of 29.69 meters (97 feet, five inches) in the discus. Freshman Julie Anderson posted distances of 28.81 meters (94 feet, six inches) in the hammer and 31.27 meters (102 feet, seven inches) in the discus.

Greyhound Invitational – Second Day Results – No Team Scores

Moravian had an outstanding second day at its own Greyhound Invitational with nine first place finishes, three Steel Field and Breidegam Track records, three NCAA Division III qualifiers and 13 Eastern College Athletic Conference qualifiers. The Greyhounds also defeated rival Muhlenberg College 106-58 in a meet for the annual Matte Award.

The Greyhounds individual winners were senior Erin Boyle in the 1,500 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 4:43.17, senior Emily Shertzer in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an NCAA Division III provisional, ECAC qualifying and stadium record of 11:01.00, senior Steph Horne in the 100-meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying standard of 15.57 seconds, senior Carrie McCaffery in the discus with an ECAC qualifying toss of 37.37 meters (122 feet, seven inches), sophomore Christina Scherwin in the javelin with a NCAA automatic, an ECAC qualifying and stadium record toss of 53.80 meter (176 feet, six inches), senior Sarah Shaneberger in the shot put with a NCAA provisional and ECAC qualifying toss of 12.54 meters (41 feet, 1 3/4 inches), freshman Kirsten Rotzell in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying leap of 11.00 meters (36 feet, 1 1/4 inches) and sophomore Amanda Wynn in the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of 2.89 meters (nine feet, six inches). The Greyhounds 4x800-meter relay team of Boyle, senior Heidi Wolfsberger, junior Jennifer Wagner and freshman heather McGarvie won the race in a stadium record time of 9:32.23.

In the sprint events, Rotzell qualified for the ECAC meet in the 100 meters with a time of 13.19 seconds and Horne won her heat of the 100 in 13.38 seconds. Senior Amanda Samok placed third in her heat of the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.22. Sophomore Nicole Sabaliauskas captured first in her heat of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.59 seconds while freshman Ann Guzevich ran a time of 23.31 seconds.

Wagner was sixth in the 800 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 2:24.02 while senior Jen Boberg ran a time of 2:27.76 in the first heat. In the second heat of the 800 meters, freshman Kellie Smith was second in 2:32.11 while freshman Sarah Krebs was fourth in 2:35.27. Sabaliauskas posted a 2:36.48 in the 800 while Guzevich had a 2:44.39. Rounding out Moravian's competitors in the 800 meters were freshman Britta Jacobsen with a time of 2:46.52 and freshman Kim Bushner with a 2:54.55. Senior Kim Jaick took second in the 1,500 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 4:48.19 while McGarvie was third in a ECAC qualifying standard of 4:51.13. Freshman Megan Wise ran a 5:03.84 while freshman O'Dea Parson posted a 5:53.0. Senior Tiffany Catalino took sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:36.56 while freshman Alison Stoyko was one spat back in 12:40.75. Sophomore Lauren Laviola posted a 13:06.10 in the steeplechase.

The Greyhound squad of Samok, Horne, Boberg and freshman Meghan Krebs was second in their heat of the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:18.69. Moravian's 'B" team in the 4x800-meter relay of Sarah Krebs, Jaick, Smith and Stoyko was third with a time of 10:10.76.

In addition to her win in the shot put, Shaneberger was second in the discus with an ECAC qualifying toss of 36.29 meters (119 feet). McCaffery  placed fourth in the javelin at 36.08 meters, (118 feet, four inches), an ECAC qualifying distance, and she was fourth in the shot put at 11.08 meters (36 feet, 4 1/4 inches). Sophomore Alicia Fowler placed eighth in the discus with a toss of 30.99 meters (101 feet, eight inches) while freshman Julie Anderson was 11th at 28.87 meters (94 feet, eight inches). Sabaliauskas had a 14th place finish in the shot put at 7.59 meters (24 feet, 11 inches) while Guzevich had a toss of 5.77 meters (18 feet, 11 1/4 inches). Sabaliauskas was also sixth in the long jump with a leap of 4.69 meters (15 feet, 4 1/2 inches).

Greyhound Invitational – First Day Results – No Team Scores

Senior Sarah Shaneberger captured first place in the hammer throw in a school record toss of 38.32 meters (125 feet, nine inches) to lead Moravian on the first day of the Greyhound Invitational at Steel Field. Senior Carrie McCaffery was third with a distance of 35.67 meters (117 feet) while sophomore Alicia Fowler was fifth at 32.51 meters (106 feet, eight inches) and freshman Julie Anderson placed ninth with a toss of 30.44 meters (99 feet, ten inches). Shaneberger broke McCaffery's school mark by over two feet. On the track, freshman Chelsea Mullins took third in the 10,000 meters with an Eastern College Athletic Conference qualifying time of 38:32.69. Sophomore Angie Morgan placed fifth in a time of 40:09.00 and freshman Holly Bofinger placed fifth in 40:59.00, both ECAC qualifying times. Sophomore Jennifer Brief placed fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 20:43.44 while freshman Meghan Krebs was seventh in 20:59.18.

At Muhlenberg Invitational – No Team Scores

Junior Jen Wagner won the 800 meters and qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships in the 1,500 meters to lead the Greyhounds at the Muhlenberg College Invitational. Wagner captured the 800 in 2:25.58 and she was third in the 1,500 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 4:59.51. Senior Steph Horne placed third in the 100-meter hurdles finals with an ECAC qualifying time of 16.37 seconds after running a school record time of 15.47 seconds in the preliminaries and she was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:10.75. Senior Amanda Samok placed fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:29.12 while senior Jen Boberg was seventh in 2:31.32 and freshman Kellie Smith was ninth with a time of 2:35.47. Rounding out the Moravian competitors in the 800 meters were freshman Sarah Krebs in 15th at 2:42.29, sophomore Nicole Sabaliauskas in 18th at 2:43.44, freshman Ann Guzevich at 21st in 2:48.65, freshman Britta Jacobsen in 22nd with a time of 2:49.52 and freshman Kim Bushner in 28th at 3:01.75. In the 1,500 meters, senior Tiffany Catalino placed ninth with a time of 5:16.80 while freshman Alison Stoyko was 12th in 5:18.70, sophomore Lauren Laviola was 17th with a time of 5:34.20 and freshman Robin Edward was 19th in 5:38.00. Freshman Marcy Burke placed 18th in the 400 meters in 1:10.40 while freshman Meghan Krebs was eighth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 21:01.30. Sabaliauskas was seventh in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.07 seconds while Guzevich placed 13th with a time of 20.89 seconds.

In the field events, sophomore Amanda Wynn placed third in the pole vault and qualified for the ECAC Championships, clearing a height of 2.75 meters (nine feet, 1/4 inch). Freshman Julie Anderson took seventh in the discus with a toss of 32.19 meters (105 feet, seven inches) while freshman Angela Lopsonzski was eighth in the javelin with a toss of 27.50 meters (90 feet, three inches). Sabaliauskas was 13th in the long jump at 4.10 meters (13 feet, five inches) and she placed 26th in the shot put at 7.03 meters (23 feet, 3/4 inch). Guzevich took 29th in the shot put at 5.77 meters (18 feet, 11 1/4 inches).

At Sam Howell Memorial Invitational hosted by Princeton – No Team Scores

Moravian had four top eight finishes on the second day of the Sam Howell Memorial Invitational hosted by Princeton University. Freshman Kirsten Rotzell took second in the triple jump with an NCAA Division III provisional and Eastern College Athletic Conference qualifying leap of 11.26 meters (36 feet, 11 1/2 inches). Senior Sarah Shaneberger was sixth in the shot put at 11.87 meters (38 feet, 11 1/2 inches) while freshman Megan Wise was fifth in the 3,000 meters in 11:00.08 and sophomore Angie Morgan was eighth in the 3,000 at 11:08.70. Freshman Holly Bofinger also ran in the 3,000 meters and placed 17th with a time of 11:43.25. Senior Erin Boyle finished ninth in her heat of the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:47.80.

At Sam Howell Memorial Invitational hosted by Princeton – No Team Scores

Senior Kim Jaick captured first place in the 10,000 meters with an NCAA Division III automatic and Eastern College Athletic Conference qualifying time of 36:32.0 on the first day of the Sam Howell Memorial Invitational hosted by Princeton University. Jaick's time is the fastest on the NCAA Division III level this season. Moravian's only other competitor on day one was freshman Chelsea Mullins, who took sixth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:17.8.

At Lehigh Valley Championships hosted by Muhlenberg College – 3rd of 6

Moravian opened its 2002 outdoor season with a third place finish at the Lehigh Valley Championships hosted by Muhlenberg College. The Greyhounds had five first place finishers, set three track records, qualified six student-athletes for the NCAA Division III Championships and qualified 14 student-athletes for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships.

Freshman Kirsten Rotzell won both her field events, taking first in the long jump with a leap of 5.23 meters (17 feet, two inches), good enough to qualify for the ECAC meet, and she won the triple jump with a track record and ECAC qualifying distance of 11.24 meters (36 feet, ten 1/2 inches).  Sophomore Christina Scherwin captured first in the shot put with a track record, ECAC qualifying and NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 13.35 meters (43 feet, 9 3/4 inches). Moravian's other winners came on the track where senior Erin Boyle captured first in the 1,500 meters in a NCAA provisional and ECAC qualifying time of 4:43.77 and senior Kim Jaick won the 5,000 meters in a track record, NCAA provisional and ECAC qualifying time of 17:39.64.

Boyle also took second in the 800 meters in a ECAC qualifying time of 2:24.43 while freshman Sarah Krebs placed tenth in the 800 in 2:38.6. Following Boyle in the 1,500 meters were freshman Heather McGarvie in second with a ECAC qualifying time of 4:49.01, freshman Megan Wise in fifth place in 5:04.66, senior Jen Boberg in 11th at 5:14.51, freshman Alison Stoyko in 12th at 5:28.78 and freshman Meghan Krebs at 14th with a time of 5:33.31. Following Jaick in the 5,000 meters were freshman Chelsea Mullins in third with an ECAC qualifying time of 18:43.27, junior Jen Wagner in fourth with an ECAC qualifying time of 19:00.62 and sophomore Angie Morgan in sixth at 19:34.75. Senior Emily Shertzer was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11:24.33 while senior Tiffany Catalino was fifth in 12:50.80.

In the sprint events, senior Steph Horne was fifth in the 100 meters in 13.73 seconds, seventh in the 200 meters in 28.05 seconds and second in the 100-meter high hurdles with a ECAC qualifying time of 16.75 seconds. Rotzell took seventh in the 100 meters in 13.24 seconds and sixth in the 200 meters in 27.76 seconds. Sophomore Nicole Sabaliauskas was 13th in the 200 meters in 29.98 seconds while freshman Marcy Burke was 14th in 30.72 seconds and freshman Ann Guzevich was 15th in 30.82 seconds. Senior Amanda Samok took third in the 400 meters in 1:02.26 while Guzevich was seventh in 1:07.60.

Senior Sarah Shaneberger placed in three events, taking second in the discus with an ECAC qualifying toss of 38.77 meters (127 feet, two inches), third in the hammer throw at 37.40 meters (122 feet, eight inches) and third in the shot put in an ECAC qualifying distance of 12.07 meters (39 feet, 7 1/4 inches). Senior Carrie McCaffery took fourth in the hammer throw at 36.48 meters (119 feet, eight inches), fourth in the discus with an ECAC qualifying toss of 34.65 meters (113 feet, eight inches), fourth in the javelin with a NCAA provisional and ECAC qualifying toss of 38.82 meters (127 feet, four inches) and ninth in the shot put at 10.27 meters (33 feet, 8 1/2 inches). Senior Jennifer Lohn was third in the javelin with a NCAA provisional and ECAC qualifying toss of 40.01 meters (131 feet, three inches) while freshman Julie Anderson was sixth in the discus at 32.49 meters (106 feet, seven inches) and seventh in the hammer throw at 26.35 meters (86 feet, five inches). Finishing out the field events, Sabaliauskas was fifth in the long jump with a leap of 4.62 meters (15 feet, 1 3/4 inches) and sophomore Amanda Wynn was tied for fourth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 2.89 meters (nine feet, six inches).

At Quaker Invitational hosted by University of Pennsylvania – No Team Scores

Sophomore Christina Scherwin threw the javelin for the first time in her Moravian career at the Quaker Invitational hosted by the University of Pennsylvania and she finished in first place with the best throw at the NCAA Division III level this season and the 13th best throw of 2002 in the world. Scherwin's toss of 55.99 meters (183 feet, eight inches) was well over the NCAA Division III automatic qualifying standard of 41.00 meters and she won the event by more that 12 meters. Senior Jennifer Lohn was fifth in the javelin with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying toss of 40.34 meters (132 feet, four inches). 

At 2002 NCAA Division III Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University – Tied for 51st of 59

The Greyhounds tied for 51st of 59 schools that scored points at the 2002 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University. Moravian received its two points from the distance medley relay team of seniors Erin Boyle and Heidi Wolfsberger, junior Jennifer Wagner and freshman Heather McGarvie, which earned All-American honors with a seventh place finish in a time of 12:16.46. It is the second straight year that Moravian's distance medley relay team has received All-American accolades. The Greyhounds' only other competitor was senior sprinter Steph Horne, who placed sixth in her heat of the 55-meter hurdle preliminaries with a time of 9.26 seconds.

At 2002 ECAC Championships hosted by Tufts University – 20th of 51

Moravian placed 20th of 51 schools that scored points at the 2002 Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Tufts University.  Wheaton (MA) College won the women's title.  Earning points for the Greyhounds on the second day of competition were senior Kim Jaick with a second place finish in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:18.10, senior Erin Boyle with a fifth place showing in the 1,500 meters in a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 4:41.87 and senior sprinter Steph Horne with a sixth place finish in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.69 seconds, a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time.  Other competitors from Moravian were Horne in the 200 meters, placing 31st in 27.74 seconds, freshman Kirsten Rotzell in the triple jump, finishing 10th with a distance of 10.94 meters (35 feet, 10 3.4 inches), junior Jen Wagner in the 1,500 meters, placing 24th with a time of 4:58.47, freshman Heather McGarvie in the 800 meters, finishing 19th with a time of 2:23.26 and freshman Megan Wise in the 3,000 meters, placing 22nd in 10:48.12.

At 2002 ECAC Championships hosted by Tufts University –
Tied for 32nd of 36 after the first day

The Greyhounds had six student-athletes compete on the first day of the 2002 ECAC Championships hosted by Tufts University and the team is tied for 32nd.  The Moravian distance medley relay earned Moravian its point with an eighth place finish in a time of 12:30.25, a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time.  The DMR team was made up of senior Erin Boyle, junior Jen Wagner and freshmen Heather McGarvie and Megan Wise.  Senior Steph Horne placed second in her heat of the 55-meter hurdle preliminaries and moved into the finals with a top eight time of 8.54 seconds, just one-one hundredth off the school record she set at the MAC Championships.  Freshman Kirsten Rotzell placed 16th in the long jump with a leap of 4.83 meters (15 feet, 10 1/4 inches).

At 2002 MAC Championships hosted by Susquehanna University – 1st of 10

Freshman jumper and sprinter Kirsten Rotzell was named the Women’s Most Outstanding Performer while winning the long jump and triple jump and leading Moravian to its seventh straight Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship.  The Greyhounds squad posted a team score of 147, 65 points ahead of second place Widener University.  Rotzell won the long jump with an Eastern College Athletic Conference qualifying leap of 5.29 meters (17 feet, 4 ¼ inches) and she captured the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying distance of 10.92 meters (35 feet, ten inches).  Rotzell, who was Moravian’s third straight Most Outstanding Performer, placed sixth in the 55 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 7.68 seconds.

The women’s team had six other MAC Individual Champions with two relay squads taking first.  Freshman Heather McGarvie won the 800 meters in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:22.37 while senior Emily Shertzer captured first in the 5,000 meters in a MAC record time, an ECAC qualifying time and a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 17:50.90.  Senior Sarah Shaneberger won the 20-lb weight throw with a toss of 12.62 meters (41 feet, five inches) while sophomore Christina Scherwin won the shot put with an MAC record, an ECAC qualifying standard and NCAA Division III provisional qualifying distance of 13.36 meters (43 feet, ten inches).  The Greyhounds distance medley relay team of seniors Kim Jaick, Erin Boyle and Amanda Samok and Shertzer captured first in a MAC record time and NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 12:29.59.  The 4x800-meter relay team of McGarvie, senior Jen Boberg and freshman Kellie Smith and Megan Wise won with a MAC record time of 9:57.96.

Other Moravian finishers in the sprint events included senior Steph Horne placing sixth in the 200 meters in a school record and ECAC qualifying time of 27.33 seconds and second in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.70 seconds, also a Moravian record (8.53 in the preliminaries) and an ECAC qualifying time.  Sophomore Nicole Sabaliauskas was 18th in the 200 meters in 29.69 seconds and seventh in the 55-meter high hurdles with a time of 9.95 seconds.  Freshman Ann Guzevich placed 12th in the 400 meters in 1:07.29 and she was 19th in the 200 meters at 29.70.  Samok took fourth in the 400 meters in 1:03.37.

In addition to McGarvie in the 800 meters, Boyle was third in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:24.92 and Boberg was ninth in 2:28.57.  Junior Jen Wagner placed tenth in 2:29.22 while senior Tiffany Catalino was 13th in 2:35.62 and freshman Sarah Krebs finished 14thin 2:35.85.  Boyle placed second in the 1,500 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 4:53.01 while Wagner was fifth in an ECAC qualifying time of 4:59.92 and Wise was sixth in an ECAC qualifying time of 5:00.14.  Freshman Alison Stoyko finished seventh in the 1,500 meters in 5:09.71 while sophomore Lauren Laviola was tenth in 5:18.61 and Catalino in 12th at 5:20.21.  Following Shertzer in the 5,000 meters were Jaick in second at 18:17.90 (an ECAC qualifying time), freshman Holly Bofinger in eighth at 19:09.58 and sophomore Angie Morgan at tenth in 19:19.61.

Shaneberger placed second to Scherwin in the shot put with a toss of 12.05 meters (39 feet, 6 ½ inches), which qualified her for the ECAC Championships.  Freshman Julie Anderson was second to Shaneberger in the 20-lb weight throw with a distance of 11.80 meters (38 feet, 8 ¾ inches) and sophomore Alicia Fowler in fifth place at 11.15 meters (36 feet, 7 ½ meters).  Sophomore Amanda Wynn took third in the pole vault at 2.67 meters (eight feet, nine inches).

At Keogh Invitational hosted by Haverford College – No Team Scores

Sophomore Christina Scherwin won the shot put with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying and Easter College Athletic Conference qualifying toss of 12.94 meters (42 feet, 5 ½ inches) to lead Moravian at the Keogh Invitational hosted by Haverford College. Scherwin also competed in the 55-meter dash, winning her heat with an ECAC qualifying time of 7.5 seconds, which tied for third overall.

 In the distance events, seniors Heidi Wolfsberger and Emily Shertzer each took second place in their respective events. Wolfsberger placed second in the 1,500 meters in an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying time of 4:44.9 while Shertzer was second in the 3,000 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 10:24.2. Following Wolfsberger in the 1,500 was senior Kim Jaick in fifth place with an ECAC qualifying time of 4:51.9 and junior Jen Wagner in tenth place at 5:03.1. Also competing in the 1,500 meters were freshman Ali Stoyko at 5:16.2, sophomore Lauren Laviola at 5:23.2, freshman Kellie Smith with a time of 5:27.9 and senior Tiffany Catalino at 5:28.0. Behind Shertzer in the 3,000 meters were freshman Chelsea Mullins in ninth place with a time of 11:06.2, sophomore Angie Morgan with an 11:08.0, freshman Holly Bofinger at 11:16.4 and freshman Megan Krebs with a time of 12:06.0. In the 800 meters, senior Erin Boyle was eighth in a time of 2:26.7 while senior Jen Boberg finished in 2:30.7. Wagner ran a time of 2:33.1 while Catalino finished in 2:37.0 and Stoyko had a time of 2:38.9. Freshman Sarah Krebs rounded out the Moravian runners in the 800 meters with a time of 2:42.1.

 In addition to Scherwin in the 55 meters, freshman Anne Guzevich ran a time of 8.2 seconds and sophomore Nicole Sabaliauskas had a time of 8.3 seconds. Sabaliauskas posted a time of 10.0 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles and she had a 29.0 second race in the 200 meters. Guzevich ran the 200 meters in 29.9 seconds, winning her heat, and she also won her heat of the 400 meters in 1:06.7. Freshman Heather McGarvie also won her heat of the 400 meters in an ECAC qualifying time of 1:01.3 while senior Amanda Samok was second in same heat at 1:03.1.

At Bears Den Invitational hosted by Kutztown University – No Team Scores

Freshman Julie Anderson placed third in the 20-lb weight throw at the Kutztown University Bears Den Invitational with a toss of 11.49 meters (37 feet, 8 1/2 inches). 

At Robert J. Kane Invitational hosted by Cornell University – No Team Scores

Senior Heidi Wolfsberger led the Greyhounds with a pair of first place finishes in at the Robert J. Kane Invitational hosted by Cornell University. Wolfsberger won the mile with a time of 5:10.71, an Eastern College Athletic Conference qualifying time, and she won the 1,000 meters with an ECAC qualifying standard of 3:02.08. Freshman Megan Wise ran a time of 5:33.97 and freshman Ali Stoyko posted a 5:39.16 in the mile race while junior Jennifer Wagner, 3:13.52, freshman Kellie Smith, 3:20.45, and senior Tiffany Catalino, 3:28.27, all competed in the 1,000 meters.

In other distance events, senior Emily Shertzer was third in the 5,000 meters with a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying and an ECAC qualifying time of 17:40.98 and senior Kim Jaick was in fourth at 17:42.74, also a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying and an ECAC qualifying standard. Freshman Holly Bofinger had a time of 19:26.80 while freshman Chelsea Mullins posted a 19:36.14 and sophomore Angie Morgan had a 19:52.67 in the 5,000 meters. Senior Amanda Samok had an ECAC qualifying time of 1:23.66 in the 500 meters while freshman Heather McGarvie ran an ECAC qualifying time of 2:23.06 in the 800 meters. Senior Jen Boberg also had a time of 2:33.58 in the 800 meters. Sophomore Jen Brief posted a time of 12:03.45 in the 3,000 meters while freshman Megan Krebs had a time of 12:07.34.

In the sprint events, freshman Kirsten Rotzell placed second in her heat of the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.38 seconds. Freshman Sara Krebs posted a time of 1:08.90 in the 400 meters.

Rotzell was second in the triple jump with a lead of 11.34 meters (37 feet, 2 ½ inches), a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying distance and an ECAC qualifying distance, and she was 14th in the long jump with a leap of 4.81 meters (15 feet, 9 ½ inches). Senior Sarah Shaneberger posted a distance of 12.28 meters (40 feet, 3 ½ inches) in the 20 lb. weight throw while sophomore Alicia Fowler had a distance of 10.34 meters (33 feet, 11 ½ inches).

At Ursinus Invitational – No Team Scores

The Greyhounds had three winners at the Ursinus College Invitational last weekend.  Senior Kim Jaick won the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:45.5, an Eastern College Athletic Conference qualifying standard, while senior Emily Shertzer captured first in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:29.7, an ECAC qualifying mark.  The distance medley relay team of seniors Erin Boyle and Heidi Wolfsberger, junior Jennifer Wagner and freshman Heather McGarvie won the event in a time of 12:08.3, the best time in the nation this season at the NCAA Division III level.  The time qualifies the team provisionally for the NCAA Division III Championships and for the ECAC Meet.  Sophomore Christina Scherwin won the shot put with a toss of 12.04 meters (39 feet, 4 ½ inches).

In the sprint events, senior Steph Horne and freshman Kirsten Rotzell each ran times of 7.6 seconds in the 55-meter dash trials and both had times of 7.7 seconds in the finals.  Horne posted a time of 27.4 seconds in the 200 meters while Rotzell had a time of 28.1 seconds and freshman Anne Guzevich ran a time of 30.1 seconds.  In the distance events, Boyle had the team’s best time in the 800 meters with a 2:24.8, an ECAC qualifying mark.  Senior Amanda Samok posted a 2:28. 9 while Wagner had a 2:30.3 and senior Jen Boberg ran a 2:33.8.  Freshman Kellie Smith had a time of 2:33.9 while senior Tiffany Catalino ran a time of 2:38.7.  Rounding out the Greyhounds in the 800 meters were sophomore Lauren Laviola with a time of 2:44.0 and freshman Britta Jacobson at 2:47.7.  In addition to Jaick in the 1,500 meters, freshman Ali Stoyko ran a 5:14.0 and Laviola had a time of 5:26.4.  Following Shertzer in the 3,000 meters were freshman Megan Wise in third at 10:53.2 and freshman Holly Bofinger in fourth at 10:58.6, both marks qualify for the ECAC Meet.  In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Jen Brief had a time of 20:33.41 and freshman Megan Krebs posted a 21:05.59.

In the relays, the Greyhounds “A” team in the 4x400-meter race had a time of 4:24.4 while the “B” team posted a time of 4:37.0.  In addition to the winning distance medley relay team, Moravian had two other squad compete in the DMR with the “B” team placing second in 12:49.5 and the “C” team in third at 13:32.4.

Rotzell had Moravian’s best finish in the jumps with a third place showing in the long jump at 5.20 meters (17 feet, ¾ inch).  Sophomore Amanda Wynn was sixth in the pole vault, clearing 2.76 meters (nine feet).

At Potomac Valley USATF Collegiate Invitational – No Team Scores

The Greyhounds had four first place finishes in the Potomac Valley USATF Collegiate Invitational at the Prince George's Sports Complex in Landover, Maryland. Senior Heidi Wolfsberger captured first place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.08, which is a qualifying time for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships, while senior Emily Shertzer won the 5,000 meters in 17:58.33 which is an NCAA Division III Provisional qualifying time and an ECAC qualifying time. Freshman Kristen Rotzell won the triple jump with a distance of 11.02 meters (36 feet, two inches), which qualifies her for the ECAC Championships. Seniors Erin Boyle and Amanda Samok, junior Jen Wagner and freshman Megan Wise made up the Greyhounds winning distance medley relay team, which posted an ECAC qualifying time of 12:48.58. 

Wolfsberger also won her heat of the mile in an ECAC Qualifying time of 5:20.52 and she was sixth overall. Wise ran a 5:37.19 in the mile and won her heat as well. Boyle was first in her heat and fourth overall in the 800 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 2:25.08 while senior Jen Boberg ran a 2:33.09 in the race and Samok posted a 2:33.56 in the contest. Senior Kim Jaick placed second to Shertzer in the 5,000 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 18:13.98. Freshman Holly Bofinger placed ninth in the 5,000 meters in 19:25.22 while freshman Alison Stoyko was tenth in 20:27.66. 

Senior Steph Horne had an outstanding day for Moravian. She placed third in the 60-meter high hurdles in a school record time of 9.42 seconds and she posted a 1:05.27 in the 400 meters. In the field events, senior Sarah Shaneberger placed second in the shot put at 11.86 meters (38 feet, 11 inches) and she was third in the 20-lb. weight throw at 13.26 meters (43 feet, six inches), an ECAC qualifying distance. Sophomore Alicia Fowler was seventh in the weight throw at 11.13 meters (365 feet, 6 3/4 inches) and sophomore Amanda Wynn posted a 2.59 meters (eight feet, six inches) in the pole valut.

At Haverford College Invitational – No Team Scores

Senior Heidi Wolfsberger won a pair of races to lead the Greyhounds at the Haverford College Invitational. Wolfsberger captured first in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:42.2 and she won the 800 meters in 2:19.5. Moravian had 14 other runners compete in the 1,500 meters in addition to Wolfsberger with seniors Erin Boyle, Kim Jaick and Emily Shertzer all finishing in the top ten. Boyle was fourth in 4:49.7 while Jaick was fifth in 4:56.3 and Shertzer was sixth with a time of 4:58.4.  Freshman Megan Wise placed 11th in 5:11.4 while freshman Chelsea Mullins was 12th in 5:11.6.  Moravian had two other top 20 finishers with freshman Holly Bofinger placing 15th in 5:18.4 and freshman Ali Stoyko taking 17th in 5:24.7. Senior Steph Horne was fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 28.0 seconds and she tied for fourth in the 55 meters in 7.5 seconds. Horne also ran a time of 1:04.0 in the 400 meters while freshman Anne Guzevich finished in 1:06.6 and senior Amanda Samok had a time of 1:07.0. Following Wolfsberger in the 800 meters with top 20 finishes were freshman Heather McGarvie in fifth at 2:24.4, junior Jen Wagner in eight with a time of 2:25.4, Boyle at ninth in 2:27.9, senior Jen Boberg 11th in 2:31.4, Wise at 12th in 2:34.0, freshman Kellie Smith at 15th with a time of 2:36.3 and senior Tiffany Catalino in 17th at 2:39.8. Shertzer placed second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:22.8 while Jaick was fourth in 10:45.3. Mullins was sixth in the 3,000 at 11:06.7 while Bofinger placed eighth in 11:16.2. Sophomore Angie Morgan came in 11th with a time of 11:29.3 while Stoyko was 12th in 11:41.2. Sophomore Jen Brief was 16th at 12:31.1 and freshman Megan Krebs placed 17th in 12:31.3. Moravian's only field competitor was sophomore Nicole Sabaliauskas placing 12th in the shot put with a toss of 7.38 meters (24 feet, 2 1/2 inches). The Greyhounds had two 4x400-meter relay teams compete at Haverford with the "A" team running a time of 4:27.0 and the "B" team finishing in 4:34.6.

At Rutgers University Invitational – No Team Scores

Moravian sent several competitors to the Rutgers University Invitational last weekend and came away with one first place finish by freshman Kristen Rotzell in the long jump at 10.57 meters.  Senior Steph Horne placed second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.8 seconds.  Horne was second in the trials in 9.4 seconds and she finished fifth in the 500 meters in 1:27.2 and fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 28.1 seconds.  Sophomore Nicole Sabaliauskas was fifth in her trial of the 55-meter hurdles in 11.3 seconds and she was fourth in her trial of the 55-meter dash in 9.3 seconds.  Senior Tiffany Catalino finished fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:38.7 while freshman Brittany Currie was fourth in the 500 meters in 1:26.4.

At Bucknell University Gulden Relays – No Team Scores

On the second day of the Bucknell University Gulden Relays, senior Emily Shertzer won the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:11.38.  The Greyhounds distance medley relay team of seniors Erin Boyle and Kim Jaick, junior Jen Wagner and freshman Heather McGarvie placed second with a time of 12:40.83.

At Bucknell University Gulden Relays – No Team Scores

The Greyhounds had just one competitor in the first day of the Bucknell University Gulden Relays with senior Heidi Wolfsberger winning the 3,000 meters in 10:01.73.  Wolfsberger won the race by 34 seconds over the second place runner from Bucknell. 

At Haverford College First Chance Meet – No Team Scores

Moravian sent several competitors to the Haverford College First Chance Meet and came home with one student-athlete qualified for the 2002 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships at Ohio Northern College in March.  Senior Heidi Wolfsberger won the 5,000 meters in an automatic qualifying time of 17:11.7, the fastest time in the nation this season by seven seconds.  Wolfsberger won the race by 44 seconds.  Junior Jen Wagner placed third in the 800 meters in 2:28.2 while freshman Heather McGarvie was fourth in 2:28.7 and senior Erin Boyle was 11th with a time of 2:37.5.  In the 1,500 meters, Boyle placed third in 4:52.8 while senior Kim Jaick was fourth in 5:01.9 and McGarvie in fifth at 5:07.4.  Moravian's only other competitors were the 4x400 meter relay team that placed second with a time of 4:27.4.

The Greyhounds opened their 2001-02 indoor season at the non-scoring Lafayette College Invitational.  Moravian had three individual winners with senior Heidi Wolfsberger capturing the one mile race in a time of 5:10.0, an NCAA Division III Provisional Qualifying Time, senior Sarah Shaneberger winning the shot put with a distance of 12.28 meters (40-3 1/2) and freshman Kirsten Rotzell taking first in the triple jump at 10.84 meters (35-6 3/4).  Shaneberger also placed second in the 20-lb weight throw with a toss of 13.10 meters (45-11 1/4) while Rotzell was third in the long jump at 5.13 meters (16-10).  Senior Erin Boyle placed second to Wolfsberger in the mile in 5:20.3 while freshman Holly Bofinger was second in the two mile race in 12:24.4.  Senior Steph Horne placed third in the 60-yard high hurdles in 8.81 seconds and she had a school record time of 8.77 seconds in the preliminaries.
