At 2003 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships hosted by St. Lawrence (NY) University Tied for 18th of 83 Moravian Individual Results
Junior Christina Scherwin earned All-American honors for the second time in two days and the fourth time in her career with a fifth place finish in the shot put on the final day of the 2003 NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by St. Lawrence University. Scherwin had a toss of 13.67 meters (44 feet, 10 1/4 inches) in the final after placing third in her preliminary flight with a toss of 13.60 meters (44 feet, 7 1/2 inches).
Scherwin earned a total of 14 points (10 for her national title in the javelin and four for her finish in the shot put) at the national championships to help the Greyhounds finish in a tie for 18th place of 83 schools that scored a point.

Junior Christina Scherwin captured her second straight NCAA Division III National Championship in the javelin on the second day of competition at the 2003 NCAA Division Outdoor National Championships being hosted by St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. Scherwin, who won the 2002 title with a toss of 51.69 meters (169 feet, seven inches), broke the meet record and set the all-time NCAA Division III record with a throw of 55.34 meters (181 feet, seven inches) in this year's competition. Scherwin, who broke the record of 51.94 meters (170 feet, five inches) set by Jodi Smiley from the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse back in 1984, is a three-time All-American with one event still to compete in at this weekend's championships, the shot put on Saturday morning. Scherwin's closest competitor in the event was Kathy Darling from Johns Hopkins University, who was 8.48 meters (27 feet, ten inches) shy of Scherwin's winning distance.
Moravian sophomore Kirsten Rotzell placed sixth in her preliminary flight and 13th overall in the triple jump with a leap of 11.49 meters (37 feet, 8 1/2 inches).
At Jim Tuppeny Twilight Meet hosted by Villanova University No Team Scores Moravian Individual Results
Sophomore Heather McGarvie was the only Greyhound to compete at the Jim Tuppeny Twilight Meet hosted by Villanova University. She placed first in her heat and seventh overall in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.40.

Sophomore Heather McGarvie placed sixth in the 800 meters in a time of 2:19.11 as Moravian's only competitor at the McElligott Memorial Meet hosted by Haverford College.
At 2003 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships hosted by Widener University 1st of 10 Moravian Individual Results Moravian Relay Results
Junior Christina Scherwin and sophomore Kirsten Rotzell each won individual titles on the final day of the 2003 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships hosted by Widener University to lead the Greyhounds to their 11th consecutive MAC Team Championship. Moravian won the team title with 158 points, 34 points ahead of runner-up Messiah College. Scherwin won her third title of the meet and defended her championship in the javelin with an NCAA Division III automatic qualifying toss of 49.24 meters (161 feet, six inches) while Rotzell captured her second championship of the meet with an NCAA provisional qualifying leap of 5.50 meters (18 feet, 1/2 inch) in the long jump. Rotzell also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash in 12.76 seconds. Moravian head coach Doug Pollard was named the 2003 MAC Coach of the Year.
In other field events on the final day of the three day meet, sophomore Julie Anderson placed third in the hammer throw with a toss of 35.52 meters (116 feet, six inches) while junior Alicia Fowler was eighth at 30.69 meters (100 feet, eight inches) and freshman Bryn Lipovsky placed 15th with a distance of 23.78 meters (78 feet, 1/4 inch).
On the track, sophomore Heather McGarvie to second place in both the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.32 and the 1,500 meters in 4:44.82. Freshman Stephanie Beitler ran to a time of 2:23.40 in the 800 meters for a fifth place finish while sophomore Chelsea Mullins placed seventh in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:28.84. Sophomore Margaret Benny placed third in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.03 seconds while freshman Rebecca Moore finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.43. Moravian's 4x100-meter relay team of Benny, Moore, junior Nicole Sabaliauskas and freshman Lynsey Boggess placed seventh in 52.43 seconds.

Junior Christina Scherwin won a pair of individual championships and sophomore Kirsten Rotzell also won an individual title to lead Moravian on the second day of the 2003 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships hosted by Widener University. Moravian is currently in first place of ten teams that have scored with 88 points.
Scherwin captured the shot put in a MAC record and NCAA Division III automatic qualifying distance of 14.31 meters (46 feet, 11 1/2 inches), and she won first in the discus with an NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 42.56 meters (142 feet, 11 1/4 inches). Scherwin's distance broke the Moravian record and is just the second time ever that she has competed in the discus. Rotzell captured the title in the triple jump with a leap of 11.60 meters (38 feet, 3/4 inches). Freshman Lynsey Boggess took second in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.54 meters (five feet, one inch) while senior Amanda Wynn finished third in the pole vault at 3.04 meters (ten feet). Freshman Rebecca Moore was sixth in the pole vault with a height of 2.74 meters (nine feet). Junior Alicia Fowler placed sixth in the discus with a toss of 31.88 meters (104 feet, 7 1/2 inches) while sophomore Julie Anderson was seventh at 31.22 meters (102 feet, 5 1/2 inches).
In running events, freshman Erica Angell finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:53.58 while freshman Alexis Vergalla placed sixth in 12:42.58 and freshman Lauren Bahnatka was seventh in 12:43.56.
In the second day of the heptathlon, junior Nicole Sabaliauskas finished third with 3,243 points while sophomore Ann Guzevich placed fifth with 2,735 points. In the second half of the competition, Sabaliauskas earned 483 points for a sixth place finish in the 800 meters in 2:48.14, 355 points with a fourth place leap of 4.20 meters (13 feet, 9 1/4 inches) in the long jump and 423 points for a second place finish in the javelin with a toss of 27.18 meters (89 feet, two inches). Guzevich garnered 563 points in the 800 meters with a fourth place finish in 2:40.89, 237 points for a seventh place jump of 3.68 meters (12 feet, 3/4 inches) in the long jump and 240 points with a sixth place finish in the javelin with a toss of 17.35 meters (56 feet, 11 1/4 inches).
In preliminary events held on the second day of the championships, sophomore Heather McGarvie placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.84 while freshman Stephanie Beitler was sixth in 2:24.34 to advance to the finals. Sophomore Kellie Smith finished 18th in the 800 meters in 2:39.45. Rotzell was third in the 100-meter dash in 12.66 seconds, and she placed ninth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.47 seconds. Moore was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:07.64 while sophomore Margaret Benny took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.59 seconds.

Freshman Erica Angell placed third in the 10,000 meters with a time of 40:46.72 to lead Moravian to a team standing of second place after the first day of the 2003 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships hosted by Widener University. Sophomore Chelsea Mullins placed fourth in 41:00.34 while senior Jennifer Wagner placed sixth in 41:26.86. Junior Angie Morgan finished ninth in 43:46.95 and sophomore Kim Bushner was tenth in 44:10.40.
In the first day of the heptathlon, junior Nicole Sabaliauskas earned 528 points with a fourth place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.35 seconds, 535 points for a first place showing in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.56 seconds, 449 points with a fourth place in the high jump at 1.34 meters (four feet, 4 3/4 inches) and 470 points in the shot put with a second place toss of 9.09 meters (29 feet, ten inches). Sophomore Ann Guzevich earned 587 points for placing second in the 200-meter dash in 28.57 seconds, 306 points for a sixth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 19.95 seconds, 359 points for a sixth place in the high jump at 1.25 meters (four feet, 1 1/4 inches) and 443 points with a third place finish in the shot put at 8.68 meters (28 feet, 5 3/4 inches).

Junior Christina Scherwin won the College Women's Javelin Throw Championship for the second straight year at the 2003 Penn Relays hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. Scherwin had her best throw of the season with a distance of 53.95 meters (177 feet) to improve her NCAA Division automatic qualifying distance. Scherwin's closest competitor was Brooke Freeburg from Providence University, who had a distance of 48.51 meters (159 feet, two inches).

Junior Kirsten Rotzell won the triple jump in an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying distance of 11.44 meters (37 feet, 6 1/2 inches) to lead Moravian at the Leopard Invitational hosted by Lafayette College. The Greyhounds had eight other top ten finishers led by freshman Erica Angell in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a fourth place finish in a time of 11:58.20. Freshman Lauren Bahnatka was seventh in the steeplechase in 12:29.60 while freshman Alexis Vergalla was eighth in 12:39.40 and freshman Deidre Martin was tenth with a time of 12:59.10. Junior Angie Morgan placed fifth in the 10,000 meters in a time of 42:20.51 while sophomore Chelsea Mullins took ninth in the 5,000 meters in 19:28.10. Sophomore Heather McGarvie finished tenth in the 1,500 meters in 4:44.70 while freshman Lynsey Boggess took sixth in the high jump at 1.50 meters (four feet, 11 inches). Freshman Rebecca Moore had an eighth place finish in the pole vault, clearing 3,00 meters (nine feet, ten inches), a new Moravian record.
Moore also placed 15th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.02 while senior Jennifer Wagner finished 11th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:33.60. In the 3,000-meter race, sophomore Holly Bofinger had a time of 11:38.00 to finish 19th while sophomore Kim Bushner was 22nd in 12:01.30. The Greyhounds had four competitors in the 800 meters led by freshman Stephanie Beitler in 26th place in a time of 2:28.33. Sophomore Kellie Smith was 33rd in the event with a time of 2:34.29 while sophomore Ann Guzevich took 39th in 2:40.03 and junior Nicole Sabaliauskas finished 43rd in 2:45.96.
In the field events, junior Alicia Fowler placed 19th in the hammer throw with a toss of 24.40 meters (112 feet, 10 1/2 inches), and she was 23rd in the discus with a toss of 26.85 meters (88 feet, 1 1/4 inches). Sophomore Julie Anderson took 22nd in the discus with a distance of 27.78 meters (91 feet, two inches), and she placed 25th in the hammer throw at 31.93 meters (104 feet, 9 1/4 inches). Freshman Bryn Lipovsky had a toss of 22.22 meters (72 feet, 11 inches) in the hammer throw.
At Widener University Invitational No Team Scores Moravian Individual Results
Junior Christina Scherwin won the shot put and placed seventh in the discus as Moravian's only competitor at the Widener University Invitational. Scherwin captured first place in the shot put with a toss of 14.58 meters (47 feet, ten inches), which broke her own school record set last weekend. The distance also automatically qualified Scherwin for the 2003 NCAA Division III National Championships in the event. She had a distance of 35.06 meters (115 feet, 1/2 inch) in the discus. This was the first time in 2003 that Scherwin had competed in the discus.
At University of Delaware Invitational 9th of 14 Moravian Individual Results
Moravian finished ninth of 14 schools and third of five NCAA Division III schools at the University of Delaware Invitational. The Greyhounds had two-second place finishers in the meet that had NCAA Division I competitors in one flight and NCAA Division II and III competitors in another flight. Sophomore Chelsea Mullins finished second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:42.68 while freshman Lynsey Boggess was second in the high jump at 1.55 meters (five feet, one inch). Moravian also had a pair of third place finishers with freshman Erica Angell placing third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:59.99 and sophomore Margaret Benny taking third in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.24 seconds.
In other running events for the Greyhounds, sophomore Heather McGarvie finished fourth in the 800 meters in a time of 2:21.48, and she was followed in the race by Angell in eighth place at 2:29.84 and sophomore Kellie Smith in 13th place at 2:37.26. Smith also finished 13th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:35.26 while freshman Alexis Vergalla was 12th in 5:27.34. Benny was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:15.34 while freshman Rebecca Moore placed fifth in 1:12.81. Freshman Stephanie Beitler was sixth in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.84 while junior Nicole Sabaliauskas placed tenth in the 200-meter dash in 29.11 and sophomore Ann Guzevich was 11th in 29.43 seconds.
Moore finished fourth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 2.90 meters (nine feet, 6 1/4 inches) while sophomore Julie Anderson took sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 36.02 meters (118 feet, 2 1/2 inches). Junior Alicia Fowler was ninth in the hammer with a distance of 29.48 meters (96 feet, nine inches) while freshman Bryn Lipovsky was 12th at 23.95 meters (78 feet, 7 1/4 inches). Anderson also took seventh in the discus with a toss of 32.82 meters (107 feet, 8 1/2 inches) while Fowler was tenth at 31.01 meters (101 feet, 9 1/4 inches). Sabaliauskas placed fourth in the javelin with a toss of 27.76 meters (91 feet, 1 1/4 inches) and she was ninth in the shot put at 8.31 meters (27 feet, 3 1/4 inches). Guzevich placed tenth in the shot put at 7.44 meters (24 feet, five inches).

Junior Christina Scherwin won her flight of the shot put and placed 19th overall with a school record toss of 13.66 meters (44 feet, 9 3/4 inches) on the fourth and final day of the Sea Ray Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee. Scherwin was the only competitor not from a Division I school in the event and she is now provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships in the event.

Sophomore Kirsten Rotzell won the long jump and triple jump to lead Moravian at the non-scoring Muhlenberg College Invitational. Rotzell captured the long jump with a leap of 5.29 meters (17 feet, 4 1/4 inches), and she won the triple jump with a distance of 11.24 meters (36 feet, 10 1/2 inches), just one-half of an inch shy of qualifying for the national championships. Rotzell also finished second in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.94 seconds, and she placed third in the 200-meter dash in 26.73 seconds. Moravian's other top five finishers included freshman Rebecca Moore taking fifth in the 100-meter dash in 13.48 seconds, fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:09.57 and third in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.04 meters (ten feet). Freshman Lynsey Boggess placed second in the high jump at 1.52 meters (five feet) while sophomore Margaret Benny finished third in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.41 seconds. Senior Jennifer Wagner finished fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:43.66. Freshman Erica Angell took fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:50.43 and she was followed by freshman Lauren Bahnatka in fifth place at 12:55.40. Senior Amanda Wynn finished tied for fifth in the pole vault with a height of 2.74 meters (nine feet). Sophomore Julie Anderson took fifth in the discus with a toss of 33.42 meters (109 feet, eight inches), and she was fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 35.25 meters (115 feet, eight inches).
Boggess posted a time of 14.43 in the 100-meter dash preliminaries and she was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:12.82. Freshman Stephanie Beitler ran a time of 2:29.66 in the 800 meters, which placed her seventh, while sophomore Kellie Smith took 11th in the 800 with a time of 2:35.21. Sophomore Heather McGarvie led five Moravian runners in the 1,500 meters with a sixth place finish in a time of 4:51.89. Angell was tenth in 5:00.33 while freshman Deidre Martin placed 18th in 5:12.24. Sophomore Holly Bofinger was 24th with a time of 5:20.15 in the 1,500 meters while junior Lauren Laviola took 37th in 5:46.05. Junior Angie Morgan finished eighth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 20:21.56 while sophomore Kim Bushner was tenth in 20:51.84. Junior Nicole Sabaliauskas finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.08 seconds, and she took tenth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:14.91. Sophomore Ann Guzevich posted a time of 1:14.97 in the 400-meter hurdles. Moravian's 4x800-meter relay team of McGarvie, Angell, Beitler and Smith finished second with a time of 10:04.03.
Other Greyhound finishers in the field events included Sabaliauskas finishing 12th in the long jump at 4.49 meters (14 feet, 8 3/4 inches) and Guzevich in 14th place at 4.26 meters (13 feet, 11 3/4 inches). Junior Alicia Fowler took seventh in the discus with a toss of 32.63 meters (107 feet, one inch) while freshman Bryn Lipovsky was sixth in the hammer throw at 19.81 meters (65 feet). The Greyhounds did defeat rival Muhlenberg College to take an 8-6 lead in the Annual Matte Award standings.

The Greyhound finished fifth of six teams at the 2003 Lehigh Valley Championships hosted by Muhlenberg College. Moravian was led by sophomores Kirsten Rotzell and Heather McGarvie, who each had a pair of third place finishes. Rotzell took third in the 100-meter dash in 12.80 seconds, and she was third in the 200-meter dash in 26.83 seconds. McGarvie placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:26.11, and she was third in the 1,500 meters in 4:37.00. Other top finishers for Moravian in the running events were sophomore Chelsea Mullins taking second in the 5,000 meters in a time of 19:34.81, freshman Erica Angell placing third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:07.97 and sophomore Margaret Benny finishing fifth in the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.27 seconds.

Sophomore Kellie Smith placed 15th in the 800 in a time of 2:33.94 while freshman Deidre Martin took tenth in the 1,500 meters in 5:09.07 followed by sophomore Lindsay Stehman in 16th place at 5:10.01, freshman Lauren Bahnatka in 21st with a time of 5:32.03 and sophomore Kim Bushner in 22nd at 5:35.93. Sophomore Alison Stoyko placed sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:38.41 while freshman Alexis Vergalla was ninth in 12:50.29. Junior Nicole Sabaliauskas placed 11th in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 1:11.08, and she was followed by Benny in 12th place at 1:12.53 and sophomore Ann Guzevich in 19th place in a time of 1:16.44.

Sophomore Julie Anderson finished sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 33.98 meters (111 feet, six inches) while junior Alicia Fowler was eighth at 31.57 meters (103 feet, seven inches) and freshman Bryn Lipovsky was 13th with a distance of 24.18 meters (79 feet, four inches). Fowler placed seventh in the discus with a toss of 32.36 meters (106 feet, two inches) while Anderson placed 11th at 30.27 meters (99 feet, four inches).

Moravian opened the 2003 outdoor season at the non-scoring Quaker Invitational hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. The Greyhounds top finisher was senior Amanda Wynn, who tied for fourth in the pole vault, clearing 2.90 meters (nine feet, 6 1/4 inches). In other field events, freshman Bryn Lipovsky placed 16th in the hammer throw with a toss of 32.19 meters (105 feet, seven inches) while sophomore Julie Anderson was 17th with a distance of 22.61 meters (74 feet, two inches). Moravian's top finisher in the running events was sophomore Chelsea Mullins placing eighth in the 5,000 meters in a time of 19:49.32. Freshman Alexis Vergalla was 15th in the 5,000 in 20:17.29. Junior Christina Scherwin, the defending NCAA Division III Champion in the javelin, earned All-American honors for the second time in her career, finishing fourth in the shot put with a toss of 14.45 meters (47 feet, five inches) at the 2003 NCAA Division Indoor National Championships hosted by DePauw University. Moravian tied for 31st of 52 teams that scored with Scherwin earning five points for her fourth place finish. Scherwin, who was eighth in the event entering the national meet, was also fourth after the preliminaries with the same distance. Scherwin's throw was her best of the season and set the Moravian indoor school record. Sophomore jumper Kirsten Rotzell also competed on the second day of the national championships, taking sixth in her flight and 14th overall in the triple jump with a leap of 11.17 meters (36 feet, 7 3/4 inches).

Sophomore Kirsten Rotzell set the Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Championship records in both the long jump and triple jump to lead Moravian to its eighth consecutive MAC Indoor Championship. Rotzell jumped 5.67 meters (18 feet, 7 1/4 inches) in the long jump, which is an NCAA provisional qualifying distance, and beat the former MAC record of 5.58 meters. Rotzell had a distance of 11.34 meters (37 feet, 2 1/2 meters) in the triple jump, which was also an NCAA provisional qualify distance, and bettered the old MAC mark of 11.22 meters. The Greyhounds swept the gold medals in the field events. Freshman Lynsey Boggess captured the high jump, clearing 1.54 meters (five feet, one inch) while freshman Rebecca Moore won the pole vault with an MAC record of 3.04 meters (ten feet). Junior Christina Scherwin captured the shot put title for the second straight year with an MAC record and an NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 13.70 meters (44 feet, 11 1/2 inches) while sophomore Julie Anderson won the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 13.08 meters (42 feet, 11 inches). Scherwin was the runner-up in the high jump at 1.52 meters (five feet) and the weight throw at 12.30 meters (40 feet, 4 1/4 inches), and Scherwin was third in the long jump with a leap of 5.27 meters (17 feet, 3 1/2 inches). Sophomore Alicia Fowler placed fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 11.61 meters (38 feet, 1 1/4 inches) while senior Amanda Wynn finished sixth in the pole vault, clearing 2.89 meters (nine feet, six inches). Junior Nicole Sabaliauskas was 12th in the long jump at 4.63 meters (15 feet, 2 1/4 inches).
In the track events, Rotzell finished third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.54 seconds, and she ran a time of 7.43 seconds in the preliminaries. Freshman Margaret Benny was 14th in the 200-meter dash in 28.68 seconds and she was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.13 seconds after running a 9.10 second race in the preliminaries. Sophomore Heather McGarvie took second place in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:54.19, and McGarvie was fifth in the 800 meters in 2:25.70. Freshman Erica Angell finished sixth in the 1,500 meters in a time of 5:02.16, and she placed fourth in the 5,000 meters in 19:32.74. Sophomore Chelsea Mullins was sixth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:46.09 while sophomore Alison Stoyko was tenth in 20:23.08. Freshman Deidre Martin finished eighth in the 1,500 meter in 5:16.23 while sophomore Lindsay Stehman placed 12th in a time of 5:23.77. Sophomore Kellie Smith ran a time of 2:32.86 to finish ninth in the 800 meters. Moore was ninth in the 55-meter dash preliminaries in a time of 7.90 seconds while Sabaliauskas finished eighth in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.70 seconds.
In the relay events, the Greyhounds placed third in the 4x800-meter relay with the team of McGarvie, Angell, Smith and freshman Stephanie Beitler running a time of 10:07.31. Moravian's distance medley relay team of Smith, Beitler, sophomore Ann Guzevich and freshman Alexis Vergalla placed fourth in a time of 13:31.42 while the 4x200-meter relay squad of Benny, Beitler, Guzevich and Sabaliauskas placed sixth in 1:54.85.
At Keogh Invitational hosted by Haverford College No Team Scores Moravian Individual Results
Junior Christina Scherwin and sophomore Heather McGarvie each won events to lead the Greyhounds at the Keogh Invitational hosted by Haverford College. The meet was Moravian's last tune-up before the 2003 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships next weekend. Scherwin won the shot put with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying toss of 13.47 meters (44 feet, 2 1/2 inches). The distance improved Scherwin to fourth in the nation in the shot put. McGarvie captured first in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:49.5. Freshman Erica Angell was sixth in the race in 4:58.2 while freshman Alexis Vergalla placed 11th in 5:12.8. Rounding out the Greyhounds in the 1,500 meters were sophomore Alison Stoyko in 15th place at 5:17.1, sophomore Lindsay Stehman in 16th position with a time of 5:20.2 and freshman Diedre Martin finishing 17th in 5:21.5. Smith also placed seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:32.5. Sophomore Chelsea Mullins led a quartet of Greyhounds in the 3,000 meters. Mullins placed 13th with a time of 11:29.4 while sophomore Holly Bofinger was 20th in 11:59.9. Sophomore Kim Bushner finished 20th with a time of 12:15.3 while sophomore Lauren Bahnatka was 23rd in 12:16.5.
At Robert J. Kane Invitational hosted by Cornell University No Team Scores Moravian Individual Results Moravian Relay Results
Sophomore Kirsten Rotzell had a pair of top five finishes to pace Moravian at the Robert J. Kane Invitational hosted by Cornell University. Rotzell placed third in the triple jump with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying distance of 11.52 meters (37 feet, 9 1/2 inches), and she was fourth in the long jump with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying leap of 5.63 meters (18 feet, 5 3/4 inches). Rotzell also ran a time of 27.04 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Other top five finishes for the Greyhounds included sophomore Heather McGarvie taking fourth in the mile run with a time of 5:17.04 and the 4x800-meter relay team of McGarvie, sophomore Kellie Smith and freshmen Erica Angell and Stephanie Beitler placing fourth in a time of 10:02.80. Smith ran a time of 3:17.50 in the 1,000 meters while Angell posted a time of 19:30.10 in the 5,000 meters, which was good enough for tenth place. Beitler had a time of 2:35.10 in the 800-meter run.
Other running competitors for the Greyhounds included freshman Margaret Benny posting a 10.04 in the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Lindsay Stehman running a 5:38.84 in the mile run, freshman Deidre Martin posting a 5:43.74 in the mile run, freshman Alexis Vergalla running an 11:26.50 in the 3,000 meters and sophomore Alison Stoyko posting an 11:30.60 in the 3,000 meters. In other field events, sophomore Julie Anderson had a toss of 13.35 meters (43 feet, 9 3/4 inches) in the 20-pound weight throw, freshman Rebecca Moore cleared 3.04 meters (nine feet, 11 3/4 inches) in the pole vault and freshman Lynsey Boggess cleared 1.53 meters (five feet, 1/4 inch) in the high jump.
At Lafayette College Quad Meet No Team Scores Moravian Individual Results
Moravian had four first place finishers with sophomore Kirsten Rotzell winning a pair of events to lead the Greyhounds at the non-scoring Lafayette College Quad Meet. Rotzell captured first place in the long jump with a leap of 5.38 meters (17 feet, eight inches), and she won the triple jump with a distance of 11.41 meters (37 feet, 5 1/4 inches). Rotzell also placed fifth in the 60-yard dash in 7.56 seconds in the finals after running a 7.53-second reace in the preliminaries. Moravian's other first-place finishers were junior Christina Scherwin in the high jump at five feet, one inch (1.55 meters) and freshman Erica Angell in the mile run with a time of 5:26.08. Sophomore Julie Anderson placed third in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 12.22 meters (40 feet, 1 1/4 inches) while junior Alicia Fowler was fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 11.37 meters (37 feet, 3 3/4 inches). Freshman Alexis Vergalla placed fourth in the two mile run with a time of 12:21.55 while freshman Margaret Benny placed fifth in the 220-yard dash in 29.48 seconds. Rounding out Moravian's top five finishers in the meet were junior Nicole Sabaliauskas with a fifth place in the long jump at a distance of 4.57 meters (15 feet) and freshman Lynsey Boggess placing fifth in the high jump at four feet, nine inches (1.45 meters).
Scherwin placed seventh in the 60-yard dash preliminaries with a time of 7.90 seconds while sophomore Ann Guzevich took seventh in the 220-yard dash in 30.90 seconds. Freshman Diedre Martin finished sixth in the mile run with a time of 5:37.84 and she was followed by sophomore Kellie Smith in seventh place at 5:39.32 and sophomore Alison Stoyko in eight place with a time of 5:40.85. Freshman Lauren Bahnatka was sixth in the two mile run with a time of 12:56.34 while sophomore Kim Bushner was seventh in 13:00.09. Smith placed eighth in the 880-yard run in 2:35.79 while Sabaliauskas was 12th in 2:41.47 and Guzevich was 14th with a time of 2:43.10. Benny placed seventh in the 60-yard hurdle preliminaries with a time of 9.84. Sabaliauskas placed sixth in shot put with a toss of 8.53 meters (28 feet) while Guzevich was eighth with a distance of 7.09 meters (23 feet, 3 1/4 inches). Freshman Bryn Lipovsky rounded out the Moravian competitors with an 11th palce finish in the weight throw with a toss of 6.63 meters (21 feet, nine inches).
At Widener University Invitational No Team Scores Moravian Individual Results
Junior Christina Scherwin compete in three events as the Greyhounds only competitor at the Widener University Invitational. Scherwin placed third in the long jump with a leap of 4.91 meters (16 feet, 1 1/2 inches), and she was fifth in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 11.36 meters (37 feet, 3 1/4 inches). Scherwin also placed seventh in the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.99 seconds.
At Fourth Annual DeSchriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg No Team Scores Moravian Individual Results Moravian Relay Results
Freshman Rebecca Moore placed second in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.04 meters (ten feet) and sophomore Chelsea Mullins was third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:39.23 to lead Moravian at the Fourth Annual DeSchriver Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. The Greyhounds had several other top finishers with freshman Erica Angell taking fourth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:00.89 and sophomore Julie Anderson placing fifth in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 12.40 meters (40 feet, 8 ½ inches). Moravian had two distance medley relay teams compete with the “A” team of Angell, sophomores Heather McGarvie and Ann Guzevich and freshman Stephanie Beitler placing third in a time of 12:58.25 and the “B” team of sophomores Lindsay Stehman, Kellie Smith and Alison Stoyko and freshman Alexis Vergalla taking seven in 13:42.52. McGarvie posted a time of 2:31.14 in the 800 meters while Guzevich ran a time of 1:06.34 in the 200-meter dash. Beitler also ran the 200-meter dash, and she had a time of 1:08.11. Smith had a time of 5:49.41 in the mile run while Moore posted a 7.94-second time in the 55-meter dash. Freshman Margaret Benny had a time of 8.18 seconds in the 55-meter dash, a time of 29.44 seconds in the 200 meters and a time of 9.84 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles. Junior Nicole Sabaliauskas had times of 29.91 seconds in the 200 meters, 2:39.27 in the 800 meters and 10.07 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles. Sophomore Lauren Bahnatka had a time of 12:08.09 in the 3,000 meters, and she cleared 2.29 meters (7 feet, 6 ½ inches) in the pole vault. Sophomore Holly Bofinger had a time of 12:17.03 in the 3,000 meters while junior Lauren Laviola posted a time of 6:28.44 in the mile run.
At Haverford College Invitational No Team Scores Moravian Individual Results
Junior Christina Scherwin placed second in the shot put with a toss of 13.27 meters (43 feet, 6 1/2 inches) and freshman Margaret Benny was second in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.3 seconds to lead Moravian at the Haverford College Invitational. Scherwin's toss provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Freshman Rebecca Moore placed third in the pole vault, clearing a height of ten feet, six inches, and she was fourth in the 55-meter dash in 7.6 seconds. Sophomore Kirsten Rotzell placed second in the 55-meter dash in 7.3 seconds while sophomore Heather McGarvie was third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:55.7. Junior Nicole Sabaliauskas placed fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.0 seconds and she was fourth in the 400 meters in 1:05.5. Sophomore Ann Guzevich took fifth in the 400 meters in 1:05.9 while sophomore Chelsea Mullins was fifth in the 5,000 meters in 19:14.7. Freshman Stephanie Beitler tied for fourth in the 200-meter dash in 29.2 seconds.
At Princeton University Indoor Relays No Team Scores Moravian Individual Results
Moravian sent three individuals to the non-scoring Princeton University Indoor Relays and had sophomore jumper Kirsten Rotzell qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships in a pair of events. Rotzell won the triple jump in a provisional qualifying distance of 11.41 meters (37 feet, 5 1/4 inches) and she placed fourth in the long jump with a provisional qualifying distance of 5.44 meters (17 feet, 10 3/4 inches). The Greyhounds also had two athletes compete in the 20-pound weight throw with sophomore Julie Anderson placing 15th at 11.34 meters (37 feet, 2 1/2 inches) and junior Alicia Fowler taking 19th place with a toss of 10.61 meters (34 feet, 9 3/4 inches).
At Lafayette College Invitational No Team Scores Moravian Individual Results
The Greyhounds opened their 2002-03 indoor season at the non-scoring Lafayette College Invitational. Moravian had one individual winner with freshman Erica Angell taking first place in the mile run with a time of 5:31.7. Freshman Deidre Martin was fourth in the race in a time of 5:46.5. Senior Amanda Wynn tied for first place in the pole vault, clearing a height of ten feet while freshman Rebecca Moore was third in the pole vault at nine feet, six inches. Freshman Lynsey Boggess tied for fifth in the high jump, clearing a height of four feet, ten inches. Junior Jennifer Brief placed sixth in the two mile run with a time of 12:59.60 while junior Alicia Fowler was ninth in the 25-lb. weight throw with a toss of 10.89 meters.
Other Moravian finishers included freshman Margaret in tenth place in the 60-yard hurdles in 9.26 seconds, sophomore Kellie Smith taking 11th in the 880-meter run with a time of 2:32.14, sophomore Ann Guzevich finishing 12th place at 4.27 meters in the long jump, 16th in the shot put at 6.30 meters and 17th in the 220-meter dash in 29.94 seconds, freshmen Lauren Bahnatka and Sarah Mueller tying for 11th place in the pole vault at eight feet, sophomore Stephanie Beitler placing 12th in the 220-meter dash in 29.27 seconds and 15th in the shot put at 6.67 meters, sophomore Sarah Krebs finishing 15th in 2:43.30 and sophomore Julie Anderson placing 15th in the 25-lb. weight throw with a distance of 10.18 meters.
