The Moravian College women's outdoor track & field team brought home the 2008 Landmark Conference outdoor Championship hosted by the Greyhounds and also won the 2008 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by Springfield College, Springfield, MA. At the 2008 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the Greyhounds placed 43rd out of 83 competing squads and had two All-America athletes. This year’s team was under the direction of first year coach Walt Wandall. Wandall and his staff were named the Landmark Conference coaching staff of the year.
Sophomore Anna Heim (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) earned All-America honors for the Greyhound women for the second time in her career with a tie for third place in the pole vault at the 2008 NCAA Division III outdoor Track & Field National Championships. Heim cleared 3.82 meters (12 feet, 6 ¼ inches) to earn the All-America honors. Also receiving All-America honors was freshman Mary King (Paramus, NJ/Paramus HS) in the javelin throw in which she had a toss of 40.78 meters (133 feet, nine inches), which was good enough for eight place.
Also competing at the NCAA National Championships was sophomore Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy) who raced in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles. Posimo placed seventh in her heat and 19th overall with a time of 15.03 seconds. Sophomore Symonne Scott (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro HS) placed fourth in her heat and ninth overall in the long jump with a distance of 5.29 meters (17 feet, 4 1/4 inches).
Posimo and Scott would team up with sophomore Rachel Beck (Churchville, PA/Council Rock South) and freshman Syndi Wisniewski (Orlando, FL/Winter Park HS) in the 4x100 meter relay but failed to finish the race due to a missed handoff of the baton.
At the ECAC Outdoor Championships, Heim was the only individual champion for Moravian. Heim won the pole vault by clearing a height of 3.87 meters (12 feet, 8 1/4 inches), which set a new school record. King placed second in the javelin toss with a distance of 41.06 meters (134 feet, eight inches) while Posimo was the runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.85 seconds.
Scott got second place in the long jump with a leap of 5.46 meters (17 feet, 11 inches) while she teamed up with Posimo, Beck and Wisniewski to run in the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 47.89 seconds which was good enough for a second place finish.
The 2008 Landmark Conference Championships yielded nine individual champions and two relay victories for the Greyhounds. Wisniewski was honored as the Women's Track Athlete of the Meet while coach Wandall and his staff were named the Women's Coaching Staff of the Meet. Wisniewski won three events by capturing the 100-meter dash in 12.60 seconds, the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.67 seconds and the 400-meter dash in a school record time of 58.40 seconds.
Posimo won triple jump with a distance of 10.72 meters (35 feet, two inches) and the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.08 seconds while Heim won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:06.28 and the pole vault at a height of 3.70 meters (12 feet, 1 1/2 inches). Scott won the long jump with a leap of 5.57 meters (18 feet, 3 1/4 inches) to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships while King captured the javelin toss with throw of 41.41 meters (135 feet, ten inches).
Wisniewski, Posimo, Beck and Scott won the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 48.36 seconds while Wisniewski, Posimo, Heim and sophomore Katelyn Chando (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) won the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:59.83.
Also contributing for the Greyhounds were juniors Thea Kennerkneckt (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury HS) and Christine Kihm (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown HS), both in the pole vault, sophomore Rachel Riggs (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg HS), in the long jump and triple jump, and freshmen Tara Chiarella (Hallstead, PA/Montrose Area HS), Molly DuVall (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township HS), Kaleen Holden (Scranton, PA/Bishop Hannan HS), Kristen Labert (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS), Alexandra Lopez (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan HS), Shannon McEvoy (Lafayette, NJ/High Point Regional HS), Alyssa Wert (Orefield, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS), Michelle Onori (Red Bank, NJ/Middletown HS) and Sarah Ziegenfuss (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS).
Posimo, Riggs, Robertson, Beck, Chando, seniors Katie Pulizzano (Allentown, PA/William Allen HS) and Ashley Scarborough (Warrington, PA/Villa Joseph Marie HS), juniors Kayla Teeling (Milford, NJ/Phillipsburg HS), Kelly Williams (Tafton, PA/Wallenpaupack HS), Naomie Kachel (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin HS), Stephanie Miller (Easton, PA/Easton HS) and Kelly Williams (Tafton, PA/Wallenpaupack HS), and sophomores Aliina Ross (Paoli, PA/Conestoga HS) and Flora Robertson (Hawley, PA/East Stroudsburg North HS) all were named to the 2008 Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.
