The Moravian College women's indoor track & field team brought home the 2009 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Susquehanna University and earned second place at the 2009 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Indoor Championships hosted by Tufts University located in Medford, MA. At the 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships, hosted by Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio, the Greyhounds tied for 21st out of 68 competing squads. This year’s team was under the direction of second year coach Walt Wandall. Wandall and his staff were named the Landmark Conference coaching staff of the year.
At the 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships, Moravian had two athletes earn All-American honors. Junior Anna Heim (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) earned All-America accolades for the second straight year indoors in the pole vault and the third time in her career as she cleared a school record 3.86 meters (12 feet, eight inches) to finish second on the number of jumps at the height.
Junior Symonne Scott (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) competed in the long jump, and earned All-America honors for the first time in her career with a seventh place jump of 5.42 meters (17 feet, 9 1/2 inches). Scott jumped the distance on her second jump of the preliminary flight and then again on her first jump in the finals. Also competing was junior Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy) who ran in the preliminaries of the 55-meter hurdles, finishing eighth in her heat and 13th overall in a time of 8.43 seconds.
At the 2009 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Indoor Championships, Moravian had one individual champion with Scott winning the long jump with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying leap of 5.57 meters (18 feet, 3 1/4 inches). Heim placed second in the pole vault with a height of 3.85 meters (12 feet, 7 1/2 inches) while Posimo placed third in the Pentathlon with a score of 3,018 points.
At the 2009 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships, Moravian won nine of 13 individual events and two of four relays in the meet. The Greyhound women swept the individual awards as well with sophomore Sydni Wisniewski (Orlando, FL/Winter Park) earning Track Athlete of the Year honors, Posimo taking the Field Athlete of the Year accolades and freshman Hailey Neff (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) winning Rookie of the Year honors.
Wisniewski captured the 200-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 25.99 seconds and the 400-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 49.48 seconds. Posimo finished first the long jump with an ECAC qualifying leap of 5.31 meters (17 feet, 5 ¼ inches), the 55-meter hurdles in an NCAA Division III provisional, an ECAC qualifying time and Landmark Conference record of 8.50 seconds and the triple jump with a Landmark Conference record and ECAC qualifying distance of 11.11 meters (36 feet, 5 ½ inches).
Neff captured the 800-meter run in 2:25.73, while junior Flora Robertson (Hawley, PA/East Stroudsburg North) won the 20-pound weight throw with an ECAC qualifying toss of 14.29 meters (46 feet, 10 ¾ inches). Junior Rachel Beck (Churchville, PA/Council Rock South) won the 55-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 7.42 seconds after a time of 7.40 seconds in the preliminaries while Heim capturing the pole vault at an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying height of 3.70 meters (12 feet, 1 ½ inches).
In the relay events, Beck, Scott and junior Rachel Riggs (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) teamed with Wisniewski on the winning 4x200-meter relay while freshmen Brooke DiNitzio (South Plainfield/South Plainfield) and Kristina Ruggiero (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) ran on the winning 4x800-meter relay squad with Neff and Wisniewski.
In other results, Riggs was runner-up in the long jump with a distance of 5.31 meters (17 feet, 5 ¼ inches) while freshmen Brittany Moses (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) earned second place in the weight throw with a toss of 13.73 meters (46 feet, 10 ¾ inches). Senior Christine Kihm (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) was runner up in the pole vault at a height of 3.28 meters (10 feet, 9 inches) while freshmen Anne Joseph (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) got second place in the shot put with a distance of 11.42 meters (37 feet, 5 ¾ inches).
Riggs, Posimo, Robertson, Beck, Kachel, and Kihm along with seniors Kelly Willaims (Tafton, PA/Wallenpaupack HS) and Stephanie Miller (Easton, PA/Easton HS), juniors Aliina Ross (Paoli, PA/Conestoga HS) and Katelyn Chando (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS), and sophomores Mallory Goggins (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Friends HS), Tara Chiarella (Hallstead, PA/Montrose Area HS), Molly DuVall (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township HS), Alexandra Lopez (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan HS) and Kaleen Holden (Scranton, PA/Bishop Hannan) were all named to the 2009 Winter Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll.
