The Moravian College 2007-2008 women’s basketball team made the postseason for the seventh consecutive season and made it to the semifinals of the Landmark Conference playoffs falling to Juniata College. The Greyhounds finished out the season by earning a bid into the 2008 ECAC Division III Southern Championship. Moravian was fifth seed in the ECAC Southern Tournament and lost to fourth seed Washington & Jefferson College in the quarterfinal game.
Head coach Mary Beth Spirk, who completed her 21st season with the Greyhounds, led Moravian to an overall record of 16-11. Spirk and her coaching staff were named the inaugural Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year
Leading the Greyhounds was sophomore guard Jessica Foran (Annandale, NJ/Rutgers Prep HS), who averaged 12.9 points per game to go along with 33 steals, 32 assists and 61 total rebounds. Foran, pictured at right, missed five games early in the season after suffering an injury in the season opener, Sophomore guard Kate Harrison (Cold Spring Harbor, NY/Cold Spring Harbor HS) averaged 11.8 points per game with 37 steals, 16 blocked shots, 56 assists, and 114 rebounds. Sophomore forward Alyssa Bisci (Easton, PA/Easton HS) grabbed 135 rebounds, 25 assists, 26 steals while averaging 11.0 points per game. Harrison and Bisci were both named to the 2008 Landmark All-Conference Second Team.
Sophomore guard Amanda Brown (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Schuylkill Haven HS) averaged 10.1 points per game while getting 29 steals, 54 assists, 43 rebounds and a team leading 59 three pointers made. Sophomore forward Kirsty Stearns (East Norwich, NY/Oyster Bay HS), pictured below, led the team in blocked shots (30) and in rebounds (180) while averaging 10.0 points per game and dishing out 21 assists as well. In her collegiate debut season freshman guard Emily Smith (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South HS) contributed 187 points, 44 steals, 26 assists and 76 rebounds while sophomore forward Lauren Fornazor (Rivervale, NJ/Pascack Valley HS) put up 114 points, 35 steals, 13 assists and 98 rebounds.
Senior guard La’Toya Blake (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) recorded 95 points, nine blocked shots and 110 rebounds in her last season as a Greyhound. Blake also led the team in assists (64) and in steals (77). Fellow senior guard Megan Kocon (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) contributed 25 points, four steals, 10 assists and seven rebounds in her last year as well. Freshman center Amie Ballo (Andes, NY/Andes Central HS) posted 28 points and 50 rebounds while freshman forward Jennie Miller (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg HS) put up 17 points, three steals and five rebounds.
Also contributing in their first year with the Greyhounds were freshmen guards Erin Bradley (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex HS) and Angel Genther (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West HS).
Kocon, Brown and Foran were all named to the 2008 Landmark Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll, and Foran was also named to the 2008 Landmark Conference Winter All-Academic Team.
