The Royals still had a five-point lead, 30-25, on two more Hawkes’ free throws with 4:04 left in the opening half, but the Greyhounds went on a 12-4 to end the half with a 37-34 lead.  Despite the slow start to the game, Moravian had a hot shooting hand in the opening 20 minutes as the Greyhounds made 14-of-28 field goal attempts (50 percent) and nine-of-12 free throws (75 percent).  Moravian did struggle behind the three-point line, missing all four of its attempts, but the Greyhounds only had eight turnovers in the first half.
Scranton made ten-of-29 shots from the field (34.5 percent) in the first 20 minutes, and the Royals connected on four-of-six three-pointers and all ten of their free throw attempts in the opening half.  Scranton had an 18-17 edge on the boards while committing nine turnovers.
The Royals opened the second half with a Mooney free throw to pull within two points, 37-35, but Moravian slowly began to pull away with a 9-2 run to take a 46-37 lead on a pair of free throws from junior guard/forward Emily Smith, pictured at right, with 15:15 to play.  The Greyhounds’ lead would hit double figures for the first time at the 12:57 mark on a lay-up from sophomore guard Hilary Murray, and Moravian would have its largest lead of the game, 14 points, 54-40, after a Smith lay-up with 11:52 remaining.
Scranton would go on a 7-0 run to pull to within seven points, 54-47, after a three-pointer from Mooney with 9:51 to play, but Moravian would push the lead back to 14 points, 64-50, after a pair of free throws from Bisci at the 6:16 mark.  The Greyhounds had an 11-point advantage, 67-56, after Bisci, who was eight-for-eight at the foul line, made two more from the foul line.  The Royals would get back within six points, 67-61, on a three-pointer from King at the 1:33 mark, but the Greyhounds would go six-for-six at the foul line in the final 1:17 with Foran, Murray and Bisci each hitting two free throws.
As hot as Moravian was from the floor in the first half was as cold as they were in the final 20 minutes.  The Greyhounds connected on just eight-of-28 field goal attempts (28.6 percent) and one-of-four three-pointers in the final 20 minutes.  Moravian, which led the nation in free throw percentage a year ago, won the game at the foul line as the Greyhounds made 19-of-25 free throws (75.7 percent) in the second half.  Moravian also had just four turnovers in the second half for 12 in the game.

At Dickinson College in Days Inn Tip-Off Tournament Championship Game - Lost 67-65 - Boxscore

The 15th-ranked Moravian College women’s basketball team, the top-ranked free throw shooting team in the nation a year ago, made just nine-of-18 free throws as the Greyhounds dropped their first game of the season, falling to host Dickinson College, 67-65, in the championship game of the Days Inn Tip-Off Tournament Sunday afternoon.
Moravian, which failed to reach 70 points for the first time this season on offense, trailed by as many as nine points in the second half before rallying to tie the contest with just over eight minutes to play.  Moravian had a balanced scoring attack with three players in double figures.  Senior guard Kate Harrison, pictured at right, tossed in a team high 12 points to go with eight rebounds and three blocked shots, both team highs, and two steals.  Senior guard Amanda Brown netted 11 points and had two boards while senior guard Jessica Foran added ten points and five rebounds.  Harrison and senior forward Kirsty Stearns, who had seven points and three rebounds in 17 minutes due to foul trouble, were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
Junior guard/forward Alesha Sisco led Dickinson with 16 points, and she grabbed a game high ten rebounds to go with four steals while being named to the All-Tournament Team.  Freshman forward Dana Walsh was named the Tournament’s Most Valuable Player after ten points and six rebounds in the championship game for the Red Devils while freshmen guards Belma Mekic and Lauren Finnerty each had 11 points as Dickinson placed five players in double figures.  Mekic had three boards while junior forward Carole Dempsey had ten points, four rebounds, a game high five steals and two blocked shots for the Red Devils.
The first 32 minutes of the game were a series of runs by each squad.  The Greyhounds opened the game with a 9-0 run, capped off by a three-pointer from Brown, pictured at left, at the 15:05 mark.  Dickinson did not score until a lay-up by Sisco with 14:45 remaining in the first half, and the bucket started a 14-3 Red Devil run that gave Dickinson and 14-12 lead with 8:40 to go before halftime.  Sisco scored eight of the 14 points in the run.
The Red Devils led 18-14 after free throw from senior guard Brooke Muller at the 7:15 mark.  The Greyhounds would go on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to build a 26-18 lead after a jumper by Foran with 3:10 left in the first half.  Dickinson would counter with a 9-2 run to pull within 28-27 just 48 seconds before halftime on a Walsh lay-up.
Moravian sophomore guard Hilary Murray hit a lay-up with three seconds on the clock to send the Greyhounds to the locker room with a 30-27 halftime lead.  Moravian was just 12-of-33 from the field (36.4 percent), one-of-four behind the three-point line and five-for-11 at the foul line (45.5 percent) in the first 20 minutes.  The Greyhounds did have a 31-21 advantage in rebounds in the first half, but Moravian committed nine turnovers to five turnovers for the Red Devils.  Dickinson also struggled shooting in the first half, making ten-of-35 field goal attempts (28.6 percent) and seven-of-ten free throws while missing its only three-point attempt in the opening 20 minutes.
Dickinson would start the second half with an 8-0 run capped off by a Mekic jumper at the 17:46 mark to build a 35-30 lead.  Moravian’s first point of the second half was a Stearns free throw at 17:30, and the Greyhounds first field goal of the half was a three-pointer by Brown at 16:33.             The Greyhounds were never able to retake the lead, but they did tie the game again at 63-63 after a lay-up by Foran, pictured at right, with 1:34 remaining.  Moravian had the ball with four seconds to play down by two points and appeared to tie the contest, not once but twice; however, the clock malfunctioned twice negating both baskets. The Greyhounds' third attempt at the end of the game fell short.
Moravian shot the ball better in the second half except at the foul line.  The Greyhounds were 14-of-28 from the floor and three-for-seven on three-pointers, but Moravian was just four-of-seven at the charity stripe to finish 50 percent for the game after leading the nation at 80.3 percent a year ago.  It was the third time in four games this year that the Greyhounds have shot under 70 percent at the foul line.  Moravian did finish the contest with a 41-39 edge in rebounds; however, the Greyhounds committed 17 turnovers to 15 for Dickinson.  The Red Devils also improved their shooting in the final 20 minutes, making 15-of-29 field goal attempts (51.7 percent), two-of-three three-pointers and eight-of-ten free throws after the intermission.
