An
important element in multidisciplinary teaching is the linkage of
courses
in different disciplines. All courses in the six multidisciplinary
categories connect in some way. These courses expose students to fundamental
issues, questions, ideas, and elements of Western culture; in a course
in a category called "ultimate
questions," student consider questions and answers fundamental to Western
religious and philosophical traditions. Students
also take one course in the area of economic, social, and political
systems, with the aim of understanding the complex social systems
in
which they live. A course in cultural values and global issues
explores the values of a contemporary non-Western culture and the issues
its people face in being part of the global community. All Moravian
students must also gain
an appreciation of the creative process in the fine arts through one
course in aesthetic expression or through participation in musical
ensembles. Students gain experience in both
the theoretical and the practical components of the fine arts—creative
writing, the visual arts, music, or theatre.
