Collier Hall of Science offers excellent facilities and resources, including student research laboratories, a 24-hour reading room and reference library, a complete machine shop, an electronics laboratory for both linear and digital electronics, a fully instrumented laboratory for atomic and nuclear physics, a Mössbauer system, an X-ray diffraction system, a non-linear optics and laser research laboratory, and extensive computer facilities. A National Science Foundation grant provided funds for a unique electronic instrumentation network that facilitates the use of scientific instruments in teaching and research labs across the Moravian science division.

Student research is encouraged through independent study, the Honors program, and summer undergraduate research programs. Specialized courses may be taken through cross- registration at other Lehigh Valley colleges. The department has local chapters of Sigma Pi Sigma, the national physics honor society, and the Society of Physics Students.

KELLY KRIEBLE
Associate Professor of Physics; Chair of the Department of Physics and Earth Science
EDUCATION: B.S., Moravian College; M.S., Ph.D., Lehigh University
INTERESTS: Electricity and magnetism, physics for life sciences, and thermal physics. Dr. Krieble specializes in optical spectroscopy, fractal and disordered systems, and chaos.

JOSEPH L. POWLETTE

Louise E. Juley Professor of Science; Professor of Physics
EDUCATION: B.S., Moravian College; M.S., Cornell University
INTERESTS: Linear and digital electronics, atomic and nuclear physics, Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and laboratory techniques. Professor Powlette developed a microcomputer interfacing laboratory for the department. He received the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1965.

EDWARD A. ROEDER

Associate Professor of Physics
EDUCATION: B.S., Lafayette College; M.S., Ph.D., Lehigh University

INTERESTS: Physical optics, solid-state physics, and methods of mathematical physics. Dr. Roeder serves as advisor to the College’s chapter of the Society of Physics Students.
