Biography

Dr. Libby teaches organic chemistry using a unique “learning cycle” approach based on the theories of Piaget. He has published his work in the Journal of Chemical Education and the Journal of Biological Chemistry.

His current projects involve both the direct study of enzymatic reactions and studies of simple chemical reactions that model enzyme reactions.

Recent Activities of Note

2010

  • Dan Libby, chemistry professor attended the American Chemical Society's Leadership Institute conference held in January of this year. Dan Libby is on the executive committee of the Women Chemists Committee and is national meeting program chair and an alternate councilor for the ACS Division of Professional Relations. He participated in diversity strategic planning sessions and attended leadership courses on motivating volunteers and involving colleagues in dialogue.

2009

  • Chemistry professors Shari Dunham, Stephen Dunham, and Dan Libby also were invited to the Mid-Atlantic Association of Liberal Arts Chemistry Teachers (Nov. 13-14) to conduct the workshop "Using Tablet PCs to Promote Student Learning." Participants learned to use Tablet PCs to enhance student learning in a range of chemistry courses.
