The Greyhounds closed out the 2007 season with a 5-0 shutout of Elizabethtown College in Commonwealth Conference action at Gillespie Field. Moravian senior pitcher Josh Hunter tossed his first collegiate complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out six batters in his final collegiate game. Hunter, who improves to 2-1 for the season, had a no-hitter through five innings before Elizabethtown's Matt Vinagro led off the top of the sixth inning with a bunt single. Hunter faced just four batters over the minimum with the help of a double player and a Blue Jay runner caught stealing. Moravian gave Hunter all the offense he needed in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single by sophomore third baseman Kevin Gambrino which scored sophomore outfielder Eric Shea, who had doubled to lead off the inning. The Greyhounds added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI double by senior catcher Colin Welles that scored senior shortstop Pete Moore. Moravian would add three insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Junior outfielder Josh Baltz hit a two-RBI double down the left field line to score Shea and freshman pinch runner Zach Andes. Freshman Andrew DeLio came in to pinch run for Baltz and after a single by junior second baseman John Bisco, DeLio scored on a sacrifice fly by Moore. The RBI was Moore's school record 39th of the season, and he also finished with a school record .396 batting average for the season on 53 hits in 134 at-bats. Moore's run in the sixth inning was his 36th of the season, tying the mark set by Dick Schartz back in 1957. The Greyhounds had ten hits in the contest with two each by Baltz, which were both doubles, and Shea. Moravian finishes the 2007 season with a 16-20 record under first-year head coach Paul Engelhardt, the most wins by the program since a 19-15 mark back in 1997.

Moravian won the second game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Elizabethtown College, topping the Blue Jays, 6-2. The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning went senior shortstop Pete Moore reached on an error that allowed junior outfielder Josh Baltz to score. Moravian added four runs in the top of the fifth inning to build a 5-0 lead. Moore hit a sacrifice fly to score Baltz with the first run of the inning before senior catcher Colin Welles connected on a bases loaded, three-RBI double, Welles' tenth double of the season. The Greyhounds made their lead 6-0 in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI double by Moore that scored sophomore third baseman Kevin Gambrino. The double was Moore's school record 34th of his career. Elizabethtown pushed a pair of runs across the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning on a pair of bases loaded walks, one to Mike Donahue and the other to Jared Auman. Each team had nine hits in the game with Baltz and freshman second baseman Michael Zubia each having two hits for the Greyhounds. Auman and Dean Whetman collected two hits apiece for the Blue Jays. Freshman pitcher Christopher Morrison evened his record at 3-3 on the mound for Moravian, allowing two runs on eight hits and three walks with three strikeouts in five-plus innings of action. Freshman Andrew DelRossi allowed two walks, a hit and a strikeout in two-third of an inning of action while freshman Brandon Palmsiano finished the game for the Greyhounds, striking out one batter in 1 1/3 innings. The Greyhounds dropped the first game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Elizabethtown College, 9-1, as the team's three-game winning streak was stopped. Moravian jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Senior shortstop Pete Moore reached on a fielder's choice and then scored on sophomore outfielder Joseph Durso's school record 14th double of the season. However, that would be the only run that Moravian scored in the contest. The Blue Jays took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI triple by Jared Auman and a sacrifice fly by Dean Whetman. Elizabethtown added a run on the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by Rodney Francis, and the Blue Jays struck twice in the third inning on an RBI single by Brandon Watson and a sacrifice fly by Jared Morris to build a 5-1 lead. Elizabethtown got two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-RBI double by Matt Vinagro and another two runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Auman and an RBI double from Watson. The Blue Jays pounded out 14 hits with three each from Auman and Watson while the Greyhounds were limited to just six hits with three by Durso, including a pair of doubles to give him 15 on the season. Junior Trevor Lawrence took the loss for Moravian, allowing seven runs on ten hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings with one strikeout. The Greyhounds final home game of the season, a Commonwealth Conference game versus Elizabethtown College for Friday, April 27th, has been postponed to Sunday April 29th. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday and was postponed due to rain and poor field conditions.

Vs. Arcadia University - Won 8-4 (6 innings)       Boxscore

Moravian won its final non-conference game of the season, defeating Arcadia University, 8-4, in a contest shortened to six innings due to field conditions at Gillespie Field. The game was played in a steadily increasing rain and the umpires deemed the mound unplayable with the Greyhounds at the plate with two runners on base and two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The win is Moravian's third straight and seventh in their last eight games. The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run homer to right field by John Connell, his fifth home run of the season. The Greyhounds responded with four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-2 lead. Sophomore outfielder Joseph Durso had an RBI single to score freshman second baseman Michael Zubia, who had reached on a fielder's choice after sophomore outfielder Josh Baltz led off the inning with a single. With two outs, sophomore first baseman Matthew McCarthy hit an RBI single to score senior shortstop Pete Moore, who had singled. Sophomore designated hitter Christopher Rue followed with an RBI single to score Durso while freshman outfielder Andrew DeLio had an RBI single to score McCarthy as Rue was thrown out at the plate on the play to end the inning. Arcadia tied the contest in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI triple by Ken Spangenberg and an RBI single by Kevin Kolodgie. Moravian answered again in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Baltz to score DeLio, who had singled. The hit was Baltz's 100th of his career as be becomes the 12th player in school history to reach 100 career hits. The Greyhounds extended their lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run home run by Rue to right field with freshman catcher Brad Bodine scoring on the hit. The homer was the first of Rue's collegiate career. Moravian would get a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Bodine scored Zubia before the umpires called the contest. Moravian had 13 hits in the rain-shortened game with Baltz, Moore, Rue and DeLio each having two hits. Freshman pitcher Philip Spence earned his first collegiate victory on the mound for the Greyhounds, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six innings of action. Steve Vassalotti took the loss for Arcadia, his first of the season, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks with one strikeout in 3 1/3 innings.

The Greyhounds won their second straight game with a 14-5 non-conference win versus DeSales University at Limeport Stadium. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on RBI singles by Scott Matejicka and Greg Treat. Moravian would cut the lead in half in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by freshman designated hitter David Lengyel which scored sophomore outfielder Joseph Durso, who had led off the inning with a walk. The Greyhounds would take the lead for good with seven runs in the top of the fourth inning for an 8-1 lead. Senior catcher Colin Welles led off the inning with a doubled and back to back singles by Lengyel and sophomore first baseman Matthew McCarthy pushed Welles across the plate with the tying run. Sophomore outfielder Eric Shea followed with an RBI single to score Lengyel, and sophomore third baseman Kevin Gambrino had an RBI single to score McCarthy. After a pitching change and a strikeout, freshman second baseman Michael Zubia reached on a fielding error by DeSales loaded the bases. Senior shortstop Pete Moore ripped a two-RBI single to score Shea and Gambrino and an error on the Bulldog pitcher allowed Zubia to score. Durso drove in Moore with the final run on the inning on an RBI double. The double was Durso's 13th of the season, tying the school record. The Greyhounds nearly doubled their lead an inning later in the top of the fifth inning with six more runs for a 14-1 advantage. Shea tripled to lead off the inning and scored on an RBI single by Gambrino. After Gambrino was out on a fielder's choice by Zubia, Moore hit an RBI single with an error in the outfield that allowed junior outfielder Josh Baltz, who had drawn a walk, and Zubia to score. The hit was Moore's school record 50th of the season and raised his school record career total to 168. Durso hit an RBI single to score Moore before Shea capped off the inning with a two-RBI single to score Welles and Lengyel. Sophomore Thomas Murray finished off the game for Moravian recording the final two outs while allowing two hits. Charles Swenson suffered the loss for DeSales, lasting just five batters into the fourth inning and allowing six runs, five of them earned, on six hits and three walks.

Moravian earned a doubleheader split in a non-conference twinbill at King's College by winning the second game, 5-4. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by senior catcher Colin Welles that scored senior shortstop Pete Moore, who had reached on a Monarch error with two outs. Moravian would extend the lead to 5-0 in the top of the fifth inning. Sophomore third baseman Kevin Gambrino led off with a walk and sophomore outfielder Josh Baltz reached on an error. Freshman second baseman Michael Zubia would single to load the bases for Moore. Moore then connected on his sixth home run of the season, a grand slam to right center. The Monarchs would score twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut Moravian's lead to 5-2. Matt Livoy had an RBI triple for King's while J.R. Graver had an RBI single. The Monarchs scored once in the bottom of the sixth inning on a solo home run by Mike Venarchick, and King's added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Livoy before the Greyhounds ended the game. Moravian took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when junior outfielder Josh Baltz walked and scored on a King's error. The Greyhounds extended their lead to 2-0 in the second inning on an RBI single by junior second baseman John Bisco that scored freshman catcher Brad Bodine who had led off the inning with a single. Moravian made the lead 3-0 when sophomore outfielder Eric Shea scored on another Monarch error. King's would get a run in the bottom half of the third inning on an RBI ground out by J.R. Graver. The Greyhounds would extend the lead to 4-1 in the top of the fifth inning when senior shortstop Pete Moore scored on a King's error. The Monarchs pulled within a run in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run homer by Gracjan Kraszewski. King's won the game in the bottom of the seventh inning when a Moravian throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt allowed Vince Budzyn to score from first base and an RBI single by Jon Venarchick scored Graver with the winning run. Moravian extended its winning streak to four straight games with a 1-0, nine-inning victory over Messiah College in the second game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Gillespie Field. Moravian swept the three-game series from the Falcons, who were in second place in the conference standings at the beginning of the weekend. Junior Trevor Lawrence tossed a four-hit shutout for the Greyhounds, allowing two walks and three strikeouts while improving to 3-3 on the season. Moravian scored the only run of the contest in the bottom of the ninth inning. Senior shortstop Pete Moore hit a one-out double, the school record 32nd of his career, and scored on an RBI single by freshman designated hitter David Lengyel with two outs. The Greyhounds also had just four hits in the game with Moore's hit extending his school career record to 163 hits. Ben Snyder and Benjamin Kirk each had two hits to account for all of the Messiah offense in the game. Dan Kern tossed a complete game for the Falcons allowing the run on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.

The Greyhounds won their third straight game and opened a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader versus messiah College at Gillespie Field with a 2-0 win. Junior pitcher Matthew Swartz and freshmen pitchers Andrew DelRossi and Joe Melchionna combined on the five-hit shutout for the Greyhounds. Swartz went five innings, allowing five hits and five walks, and he struck out two batters while winning his second game of the season. DelRossi tossed 1 1/3 innings with a walk and a strikeout while Melchionna retired the final two batters for his first collegiate save. Moravian scored the only two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore outfielder Joseph Durso had an RBI single to score senior shortstop Pete Moore, who had led off the inning with a single. Sophomore first baseman Matthew McCarthy added another RBI single later in the inning to score Durso. The Greyhounds would get a run back in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by senior shortstop Pete Moore that scored junior outfielder Josh Baltz, who had walked with two outs. Moravian would take a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning with a trio of unearned runs. Sophomore first baseman Matthew McCarthy hit into an RBI ground out that scored senior catcher Colin Welles, who had reached on an error to lead off the inning. The Greyhounds snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 7-5 non-conference victory over Delaware Valley College at Gillespie Field. The contest was originally scheduled to be played in Doylestown; however, field conditions forced the game to be moved to Bethlehem. The Aggies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI sacrifice fly by Kevin Weingart that scored Steve Kinney. Delaware Valley extended its lead to 2-0 in the top of the third inning on an RBI ground out by Kyle Bobb that pushed John Persicketti across the plate. Moravian would take its first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with three runs. With two outs in the inning, junior outfielder Josh Baltz hit an RBI single and an error on the play allowed both sophomore first baseman Christopher Rue and senior designated hitter Josh Hunter to score. Rue had been hit by a pitch while Hunter reached on a walk. Freshman second baseman Michael Zubia followed with an RBI single to score Baltz with the go ahead run. The Greyhounds fell to Lebanon Valley College, 7-2, in the final game of a three-game Commonwealth Conference series that the Flying Dutchmen swept from Moravian. Lebanon Valley jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Grant Wiest. The Flying Dutchmen made the score 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI sacrifice fly by Corey Lamoureux, and Lebanon Valley tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI double by Wiest for a 3-0 lead. The Flying Dutchmen doubled their lead to 6-0 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-RBI single by Dan Kelly and an RBI single by John Mentzer. Lebanon Valley extended its lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI sacrifice fly by Mark Mehalko. The Greyhounds would score two runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Greyhounds swept their first Commonwealth Conference doubleheader of the season, defeating Susquehanna University, 3-1, in the second game of a twinbill at Gillespie Field. The win under first-year head coach Paul Engelhardt extended Moravian's winning streak to four games, the first four-game streak for the program since 2002. The victory was also Moravian's sixth in 11 games, surpassing the win total for the entire 2006 season, and it also improved the Greyhounds to 3-0 in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian would score all three runs freshman pitcher Christopher Morrison needed in the bottom of the third inning. Senior catcher Colin Welles led off the inning with a double and sophomore designated hitter Christopher Rue was hit by a pitch. Sophomore first baseman Matthew McCarthy followed with a sacrifice bunt before junior second baseman John Bisco hit a two-RBI double to score Welles and Rue. Sophomore third baseman Kevin Gambrino then hit an RBI single to score Bisco with what ended up being an insurance run for Moravian. The Greyhounds answered with a run in the bottom half of the first. Senior shortstop Pete Moore tripled with two outs and then scored on an RBI single by sophomore outfielder Joseph Durso. Playing for the first time in 12 days, Moravian began the 2007 Commonwealth Conference season with a 9-6 victory at Widener University. The win was the first for Greyhound first-year head coach Paul Engelhardt in his first career conference contest. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Freshman designated hitter David Lengyel was hit by a pitch with one out and stole second base. Sophomore outfielder Joseph Durso the hit a two-out RBI single to score Lengyel. The Pride would score twice in the bottom of the second inning for a 2-1 lead. Moravian would retake the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning with a pair of runs. Freshman Christopher Morrison earned his first collegiate win on the mound for the Greyhounds, tossing a three-hit shutout with five strikeouts and no walks. Moravian gave Morrison all of the offense he needed with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Junior outfielder Josh Baltz singled to lead off the inning before senior shortstop Pete Moore connected on an RBI double to score Baltz. Moore eventually crossed the plate on an RBI single by sophomore first baseman Matthew McCarthy. The Greyhounds added three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend their lead to 5-0. With one out, sophomore third baseman Kevin Gambrino singled and moved to third on a double by freshman outfielder Andrew DeLio. Junior second baseman Brett Stout hit a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher to score Gambrino. Baltz followed with an RBI single to score DeLio, and Baltz crossed the plate on an RBI single by Moore. Senior catcher Colin Welles led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a double and scored on an RBI single by Gambrino to make the Moravian lead 6-0. The Greyhounds finished off the scoring with a pair of runs on the bottom of the sixth inning. Baltz was hit by a pitch and scored on an RBI triple by Moore. Sophomore outfielder Joseph Durso followed with an RBI double to score Moore with the final run. The Greyhounds opened their 2007 season with a 13-4 loss to the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader played in Arizona on a spring break trip. Moravian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-RBI single by sophomore outfielder Joseph Durso that scored sophomore designated hitter Scott Hettinger and senior shortstop Pete Moore, who had both walked. The Greyhounds extended the lead to 3-0 in top of the second inning on an RBI single by Moore that plated freshman outfielder Andrew DeLio. Moravian made its lead 4-0 in the top of the third inning on a solo home run by Durso to lead off the inning. The Panthers would take the lead with two outs in the bottom of the third inning. After a pair of hit batters and a pair of walks, Pitt-Bradford's Geoff Brabham delivered a grand slam to give the Panthers a 5-4 lead. Pitt-Bradford added three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and three more in the sixth for a 13-4 lead. Moravian had just five hits in the game with two by Durso while the Panthers pounded out 12 hits. Moravian junior Matthew Swartz took the loss on the mound, allowing seven runs on three hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings. Swartz did strike out three batters. Freshman Andrew DelRossi pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing a run on three hits with one strikeout. Freshman Keith Shaffer finished the contest on the mound for the Greyhounds, allowing five runs on six hits and a walk in two innings of action.
