Moravian closed out the 2005-06 season with a 74-70 upset victory over Elizabethtown College in Commonwealth Conference action in Johnston Hall. Despite the loss, the Blue Jays still clinched the fourth seed in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament due to Susquehanna University's loss to Lebanon Valley College. The game was close early in the first half with an 8-8 tie at the 14:18 mark. Elizabethtown went on a 16-6 run to take a 22-14 lead with 6:21 remaining before the intermission; however, Moravian countered with a 9-1 run to tie the contest at 23-23 with 3:47 before the break. The Blue Jays went into halftime with a 30-29 lead. Moravian shot very well in the first half, making 11 of 19 field goal attempts (57.9 percent), two of three three-pointers and five of six free throws (83.3 percent) while Elizabethtown was 11 of 25 (44.0 percent) from the floor, three of 11 on three-pointers and five of seven (71.4 percent) at the foul line. The Greyhounds had a 12-11 edge on the boards, but Moravian committed 20 turnovers in the first 20 minutes while Elizabethtown had 15 miscues. Coming out of the break, Moravian quickly built a 37-32 lead with 17:52 to play, and the Greyhounds would push the lead to 43-35 over the next three minutes. Moravian led 49-42 with 12:22 on the clock when the Blue Jays went on a 9-0 run to take a 51-49 lead with 10:36 remaining. Over the next four minutes, the game was tied twice with Elizabethtown building a brief lead each time after the tie. The final tie was at 61-61 with 6:21 remaining. The Blue Jays scored the next bucket before Moravian took the lead for good, 64-63, on a three-pointer by junior guard Michael Clemente with 5:40 remaining. The Greyhounds, who entered the week ranked ninth in the nation in free throw shooting, scored six of their final ten points at the foul line to ice the victory. Moravian shot even better from the floor in the second half, making 14 of 22 field goal attempts (63.6 percent) and five of eight three-pointers (62.5 percent); however, the Greyhounds were just 12 of 18 (66.7 percent at the foul line). Moravian only committed five turnovers in the second half but was out-rebounded by Elizabethtown, 16-10, after the break. Clemente tossed in 13 points while going three-for-three behind the three-point line while senior forward Ed Reid had 12 points and three rebounds. Sophomore forward Mark Franzyshen and sophomore guard Justin Chestnut each netted ten points in the win for Moravian with Franzyshen grabbing a team high five rebounds. Sophomore guard Ryan Miller led the Greyhounds with six assists to go with five points, and sophomore forward Eric Whitman added three rebounds. The Blue Jays had four players scoring in double figures as well with Chad Piersol scoring a team high 16 points to go with four rebounds and three assists. Senior forward Brian Schreiber and Brad Schreiber each has 12 points for Elizabethtown with Brad grabbing six rebounds and Brian adding five rebounds and three steals. Michael Schatzmann contributed ten points and four rebounds while guard Brian Goodwin had nine points and four assists for the Blue Jays.

The Greyhounds had their two-game winning streak snapped in a 64-60 loss to Widener University in Commonwealth Conference action at Johnston Hall. Moravian trailed 4-2 before a 16-0 Greyhound run put Moravian up 18-4 with 12:36 left in the first half. Widener would slowly climb back into the game, getting as close as five points twice, but the Greyhounds went to the break with a 28-22 advantage. Moravian was 11 of 29 from the floor in the first half (37.9 percent) with five three-pointers. The Greyhounds were just one of two at the foul line and committed eight turnovers; however, Moravian had a 22-16 rebounding advantage. Widener quickly tied the game at 32-32 in the second half and took its first lead since the opening two minutes of the game with a 35-32 edge with 16:58 remaining in the contest. The Greyhounds kept the game close with the game being tied six times in the next 11 minutes and neither team building more than a four-point lead. Moravian's final lead came with 3:38 left in the contest as the Greyhounds had a 55-54 advantage. Widener finished the game on a 10-5 run to clinch first place in the upcoming Commonwealth Conference Tournament coupled with Messiah College's lost to Elizabethtown College. For Widener, senior center/forward Kris Clarkson tied his career high with 31 points including 25 in the second half, and he added nine rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots. Moravian won its second straight game with a 75-68 upset at Messiah College in Commonwealth Conference action. The Greyhounds have won consecutive contests for the first time in over a month and earned their first road conference victory of the year. The game was close throughout the first half as neither team pulled away. Moravian scored the final six points of the half including a short jumper just as the first half horn sounded to head into the intermission with a 36-34 lead. The Greyhounds had a hot shooting touch in the first half, making 14 of 24 field goal attempts (58.3 percent) with two three-pointers and a perfect six-of-six at the foul line. Messiah also shot well before the break, hitting 14 of 34 field goal attempts (41.2 percent) with a pair of three-pointers and a four-for-six performance at the foul line. In the second half, the game would remain close before the Greyhounds eventually pulled ahead for a ten-point lead. Moravian made nine of 20 field goals (45 percent) with three three-pointers after the half. The Greyhounds, one of the top free throw shooting teams in the country, were 18 of 23 (78.3 percent) after the break to seal the victory. Messiah did finish with a 40-33 advantage in rebounds, and the Falcons had just nine turnovers in the game while Moravian made 16 turnovers. Moravian opened the scoring with a three-pointer on its first possession before the Flying Dutchmen scored eight straight points for an 8-3 lead with 17:58 remaining in the first half, Lebanon Valley's largest lead of the game. Moravian scored six unanswered points to retake the lead at 9-8. The two squads would trade the lead over the next seven minutes before the score was tied 21-21 with 7:19 remaining in the first half. Moravian dropped an 83-70 decision at Susquehanna University in Commonwealth Conference action. The game started an hour late due to a pair of power failures during the women's game. The game went back-and-forth for the first ten minutes with neither team leading by more than five points. The Crusaders led 3-0 and would be up 9-5 three and a half minutes into the contest before the Greyhounds rallied and took four-point leads of 13-9 and 15-11, the latter with 12 minutes remaining before halftime. Susquehanna pulled ahead to a 19-15 lead, but Moravian cut the lead back to 21-20 with 6:56 to play before the break. The Crusaders would slowly pull away during the remainder of the half to head into halftime with a 38-29 advantage. Susquehanna made 14 of 35 first half field goals (40 percent) including six three-pointers, and the Crusaders were four of seven (57.1 percent) at the foul line while committing just five turnovers and holding a 25-21 edge in rebounds. Moravian connected on 12 of 35 field goal attempts (34.3 percent) in the first 20 minutes with three three-pointers. The Greyhounds made both of their free throws in the first half and committed just seven turnovers. At the beginning of the second half, Susquehanna continued to build on its lead, eventually pushing the advantage to 18 points twice, the final time at 57-39 with 12:19 remaining in the contest. The Greyhounds would fight back over the next 4:15, going on a 19-2 run to pull Moravian within a point at 59-58 with 8:04 on the clock. Moravian snapped a five-game losing streak and earned its first Commonwealth Conference victory of the season as the Greyhounds rallied for an 81-72 victory over Juniata College in a conference contest in Johnston Hall. The Eagles opened a quick 6-3 lead in the first minute and a half of the game, but a 7-0 run by the Greyhounds gave Moravian a 10-6 lead with just under 16 minutes to play in the first half. Juniata rallied to take a 13-12 lead before the Greyhounds tied the game at 17-17 with 10:20 to play in the first half. The Eagles would eventually build an eight-point lead at 32-24 with 5:20 before the intermission; however, a 14-9 run by Moravian to close the half pulled the Greyhounds within 41-38 at the break. Moravian was just 11 of 29 (37.9 percent) from the floor in the first half with a three-pointer, but a 15 of 21 performance (71.4 percent) at the foul line kept the Greyhounds in the game. Moravian also had a 22-20 edge in rebounds at halftime but had committed 14 turnovers. Moravian would never hold a lead in the game, and DeSales needed just four minutes to build a double-digit lead, which the Bulldogs kept for the remainder of the game. Moravian suffered through a poor shooting first half, making just 11 of 30 field goal attempts (36.7 percent) with two three-pointers and four-of-five free throws. The Greyhounds earned their first win of the 2005-06 season with an 85-70 victory over Neumann College in the consolation game of the 15th Annual Gettysburg College Tip-Off Tournament. Moravian led the entire game and had a 49-41 advantage at halftime. The Greyhounds shot 18 of 31 (58.1 percent) from the floor in the first half and connected on 27 of 55 field goal attempts (49.1 percent) for the game. Moravian also made 22 of 26 free throw attempts (84.6 percent) with nine three-pointers. The Greyhounds committed just 11 turnovers, however, Moravian was out-rebounded 37-30 in the contest. Sophomore guard Justin Chestnut scored a career high 19 points to go with two rebounds and an assist to lead the Greyhounds while senior forward Ed Reid had a career high 17 points to go with two boards an assist. Reid was named to the All-Tournament Team. Sophomore forward Chris Earley had a career high for the second straight game with 11 points, and Earley had five rebounds and two blocked shots for the Greyhounds. Moravian dropped its 2005-06 season opener to host Gettysburg College, 64-58, in the first round of the 15th Annual Gettysburg College Tip-Off Tournament. The Greyhounds led at halftime, 30-25, but Gettysburg went on an 11-0 run to start the second half before Moravian scored at the 14:50 mark after the intermission. The Bullets kept the lead the rest of the game and led by as many as seven points, however, Moravian would cut the lead to two points several times including with 47 seconds remaining in the game. The Greyhounds made 12 of 29 field goal attempts (41.4 percent) from the floor in the first half, and Moravian made 22 of 55 shots (40 percent) for the game. The Greyhounds added eight three-pointers while going six-for-six from the foul line.
