At 2000 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional – 7th of 34
Sophomore Wes Zimmerman placed 30th of 245 runners to lead the Greyhounds to a seventh place team finish at the 2000 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional. Zimmerman ran the 8,000-meter course in 27:30.70 and he was followed by freshman Joe Grady in 34th place at 27:35.00. The duo earns All-Region accolades for finishing in the top 35 of the race. Sophomore George Wacker just missed All-Region honors with a 36th place finish in 27:45.00. Senior Damon Rutherford closed out his career with a 71st place finish in 28:31.60 and junior Chris DeWalt placed 96th in 29:02.00. Rounding out the Greyhound squad were freshman Sean McDonnell in 124th at 29:30.20 and sophomore Matt Plewinski in 138th position at 29:54.30.
At 2000 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships – 4th of 12
Sophomore Wes Zimmerman placed 11th of 115 runners to lead the Greyhounds to a fourth place team finish at the 2000 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships/ Zimmerman completed the 8,000-meter course in 27:40.22. Freshman Joe Grady was second for the Greyhounds in 27:48.52 while sophomore George Wacker placed 24th in 28:08.07. Rounding out the top five for Moravian were junior Chris DeWalt in 33rd place at 28:29.16 and freshman Sean McDonnell at 35th with a time of 28:31.25. Senior Damon Rutherford ran for the first time in a month and finished 42nd in 28:45.26 while sophomore Matt Plewinski finished 53rd in 29:16.12. Moravian's final two competitors were sophomore Justin Arnold in 57th place at 29:22.33 and junior Josh Heebner in 70th position at 29:59.57.
At West Chester University with East Stroudsburg University & Muhlenberg College – Won 1 of 3
Moravian defeated rival Muhlenberg College by one point, 28-29, and lost to two NCAA Division II schools, West Chester University, 42-17, and East Stroudsburg University, 23-34, in the Greyhounds first duals meets of the season. Sophomore Wes Zimmerman was the top Greyhound in the three mile race with a sixth place finish in 16:28 while sophomore George Wacker was 12th in 17:07. Freshman Sean McDonnell placed 16th in 17:20 while junior Chris DeWalt was 20th in 17:24 and sophomore Justin Arnold placing 23rd in 17:36. Moravian freshman Will Gayeski placed 24th in 17:41 while sophomore Matt Plewinski was 26th in 17:49. Moravian's other two runners in the race were freshman Michael Sharphouse in 40th with a time of 20:08 and junior Chris Colley in 43rd at 20:16.
At Allentown College Invitational – 8th of 28
Competing without top runner, senior Damon Rutherford, for the second straight week, the Greyhounds placed 8th of 39 schools at the Allentown College Invitational Freshman Joe Grady led the Greyhounds with a 14th place finish in 27:19.91 over the 8,000-meter course. Sophomore Wes Zimmerman placed 24th in 27:42.96 while sophomore George Wacker was 67th in 28:51.84. Junior Chris DeWalt had a 77th place finish in 29:03.70 while freshman Sean McDonnell rounded out the Moravian top five with a 88th place finish in 29:20.62.
At Dickinson College Invitational – 14th of 39
Running without top runner, senior Damon Rutherford, the Greyhounds placed 14th of 39 schools at the Dickinson Invitational Freshman Joe Grady led the Greyhounds with a 34th place finish in 27:24.0 over the 8,000-meter course. Sophomore Wes Zimmerman placed second for the Moravian in the 268-runner meet with a 38th place finish in 27:29.2. Rounding out the Greyhounds top five were sophomore George Wacker in 119th at 28:47.8, freshman Sean McDonnell in 124th at 28:53.0 and junior Chris DeWalt at 128th with a time of 28:55.0. Moravian's other competitors in the meet were freshman Will Gayeski placing 162nd in 29:33.3 and sophomore Justin Arnold taking 187th in 30:10.9.
At New York University Invitational – 7th of 36
Senior Damon Rutherford placed 21st of 235 runners to lead the Greyhounds to a seventh place finish at the New York University Invitational. Rutherford completed the 8,000-meter course in 27:08.11. Sophomore Wes Zimmerman was the second Greyhound to cross the finish line, placing 33rd in 27:22.22. Moravian's other top five runners included freshman Joe Grady in 36th at 27:27.47, sophomore George Wacker in 73rd at 28:17.44 and freshman Sean McDonnell at 117th in 28:55.04. Three other Greyhounds competed in the race with junior Chris DeWalt placing 126th in 29:13.17, freshman Will Gayeski taking 141st in 29:38.55 and junior Josh Heebner placing 153rd with a time of 29:55.09.
At Muhlenberg College Invitational – Tied for 1st of 4
Sophomore Wes Zimmerman placed third overall to lead the Greyhounds to a first place tie with Muhlenberg College at the Muhlenberg Invitational. Zimmerman completed the 8,000 meter course in 27:15.4. Senior Damon Rutherford placed fifth in 27:19.4 while freshman Joe Grady was 6th in 27:40.3. Rounding out the top five for the Greyhounds were sophomore George Wacker in seventh with a time of 28:15.2 and freshman Sean McDonnell in eighth at 28:24.6. Moravian had four other top 20 finishers in junior Chris DeWalt (10th at 28:53.0), freshman Will Gayeski (12th in 29:06.9), sophomore Justin Arnold (16th in 29:36.2) and junior Josh Heebner (18th at 29:51.0).
At Kutztown Maroon & Gold Invitational – 3rd of 9
The Moravian men’s cross country team placed third of nine teams at the Kutztown University of Pennsylvania Maroon & Gold Invitational last weekend. The Greyhounds were the top NCAA Division III team in the race and the team defeated two Division II teams in the race. Moravian also defeated two Middle Atlantic Conference schools and rival Muhlenberg College. Senior Damon Rutherford was the top Greyhounds runner on the 10,000-meter course with a time of 28:23. Sophomore Wes Zimmerman placed second for Moravian and 17th overall in a time of 28:37 while freshman Sean McDonnell was 19th in 28:45. Freshman Joe Grady was 28th in 29:06 and sophomore George Wacker placed 41st in 29:56 to round out the Greyhounds top five. Moravian had four other runners in the field of 108. Freshman Will Gayeski was 64th in 30:59 while junior Chris DeWalt placed 70th with a time of 31:26. Sophomore Justin Arnold took 86th at 32:47 while sophomore Matt Plewinski finished 94th with a time of 33:43.
