At 2001 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional – 16th of 31
The Greyhounds placed 16th of 31 schools at the 2001 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional hosted by Muhlenberg College at Lehigh University. Moravian ends its season with the race and the Greyhounds fell to rival Muhlenberg in the Matte Award race. Individually, freshman Pat Grogan placed 60th with a time of 27:37.40 over the 8,000-meter course. Junior George Wacker placed 67th of 220 runners in 27:42.68 while senior Chris DeWalt was 81st in 27:56.54. Junior Justin Arnold was 132nd in 28:55.03 while junior Matt Plewinski was 167th in 30:06.03. Rounding out the Greyhound squad was sophomore Sean McDonnell in 175th with a time of 30:21.69.
At 2001 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships – 7th of 12
Junior George Wacker placed 22nd in 28:12.60 to lead the Greyhounds to a seventh place finish at the 2001 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships. Senior Chris DeWalt was second for Moravian at 42nd in 28:46.80 while freshman Patrick Grogan was 44th in 28:53.20. Sophomore Marty Miller placed 47th in 28:55.60 and sophomore Joe Grady placed 61st in 29:31.80. Grady had been in the top ten early in the race but an injury slowed him down over the final 4,000 meters. Junior Matt Plewinski took 65th place in 29:39.70 while sophomore Sean McDonnell was 66th in 29:42.10. Junior Justin Arnold placed 69th in 29:46.50 and freshman Anthony Bisti rounded out the Greyhound runners in 105th at 32:31.90.
At DeSales Invitational hosted by DeSales University – 12th of 35
In their final tune-up prior to the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship on October 27th, the Greyhounds placed 12th of 35 teams and were the second MAC team to finish in the DeSales University Invitational. Sophomore Joe Grady paced the Greyhounds with a 14th place finish in a time of 26:58.26 over the 8,000-meter course. Freshman Pat Grogan took 39th overall out of 232 runners with a time of 27:47.91 while junior George Wacker was 68th in 28:32.57. Senior Chris DeWalt finished in 98th in 29:19.91 while junior Matt Plewinski rounded out the Moravian top five with a time of 29:58.09 in 119th position. Sophomore Sean McDonnell was 127th overall in 20:07.59 while sophomore Marty Miller placed 137th with a time of 30:37.91.
At Paul Short Open hosted by Lehigh University – 5th of 17
The Greyhounds placed fifth of 17 schools in the College Open - NCAA Division III race at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University. Sophomore Joe Grady led the Greyhounds on the 8,000-meter course with a 37th place finish in a time of 26:36.02. There were 356 runners in the race. Freshman Pat Grogan placed 41st in 26:39.94 while junior George Wacker was 87th in 27:16.67. Junior Wes Zimmerman finished 111th with a time of 27:33.82 while sophomore Marty Miller rounded out the top five for the Greyhounds, placing 184th in 28:26.44. Also running in the race for Moravian were freshman Matt Oertner in 190th at 28:35.17, senior Chris DeWalt at 202nd in 28:42.64, sophomore Sean McDonnell in 228th with a time of 29:02.34, junior Justin Arnold at 247th in 29:19.76 and junior Matt Plewinski at 275th in 29:47.83.
At NYU Invitational hosted by New York University – 14th of 37
Moravian headed to Van Cortlandt Park in Upper Manhattan for the annual New York University Invitational and came home placing 14th of 37 schools in the race. Sophomore Joe Grady led the Greyhounds in the field of 371 runners with a time of 28:05.62, good enough to finish 52nd on the 8,000-meter course. Junior George Wacker was second for the Greyhounds and 65th overall in 28:18.76 while freshman Pat Grogan was 74th in 28:24.40. Rounding out the top five for Moravian were junior Wes Zimmerman in 112th in 29:14.43 and freshman Matt Oertner in 159th with a time of 29:45.91. Senior Chris DeWalt finished in 159th place at 29:57.70 while sophomore Sean McDonnell was 170th in 30:10.81 and junior Matt Plewinski was 171st in 30:11.16. Sophomore Martin Miller saw his first action of the season and finished in 195th with a time of 30:38.91 while junior Justin Arnold was 246th in 32:04.01 and freshman Anthony Bisti placed 303rd in 33:35.11 to round out the Moravian runners.
At Panther Invitational hosted by Middlebury (VT) College – 5th of 8
The Greyhounds traveled to Vermont to run against some of the best teams in the New England region and placed fifth of eight schools at the Panther Invitational hosted by Middlebury College. Moravian placed four runners in the top 25 and had a team score of 120 in the race that included 89 individuals. Junior George Wacker led the Greyhounds with a 19th place finish in 28:11.3. Sophomore Joe Grady finished two spots back in 21st with a time of 28:17.5. Junior Wes Zimmerman placed 23rd overall in 28:24.7 and freshman Pat Grogan was on Zimmerman's heels at 28:28.8, good enough for 24th place. Sophomore Sean McDonnell rounded out the Greyhounds top five, placing 33rd in 29:28.2. Senior Chris DeWalt finished just behind McDonnell in 34th at 29:30.3. Moravian's other runners included freshman Matt Oertner in 37th at 29:45.3, junior Justin Arnold in 48th at 30:17.8 and junior Matt Plewinski at 55th with a time of 30:40.2.
At Lehigh Valley Collegiate Championships at Lehigh University – 3rd of 7
The Greyhounds placed third of seven teams and were the top NCAA Division III team at the Lehigh valley Collegiate Championships hosted by Lehigh University. Moravian's finished behind NCAA Division I Lehigh University and Lafayette College but defeated NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg University and Kutztown University as well as normal rivals DeSales University and Muhlenberg College. Freshman Pat Grogan was the top runner for the Greyhounds, just missing the top ten, placing 11th in 27:14.3. Junior George Wacker finished one spot back in 12th at 27:20.2. Sophomore Joe Grady also placed in the top 15, finishing 15th with a time of 27:23.5. Rounding out the top five for Moravian were junior Wes Zimmerman in 25th place at 27:49.0 and freshman Matt Oertner at 40th in 28:28.6. Other finishers for Moravian included junior Matt Plewinski in 49th at 28:54.8, sophomore Sean McDonnell in 52nd at 29:05.5, senior Chris DeWalt at 29:24.5 and freshman Anthony Bisti at 78th with a time of 33:22.3.
At Kutztown Maroon & Gold Invitational – 5th of 10
The Moravian men’s cross country team placed fifth of ten teams at the Kutztown University of Pennsylvania Maroon & Gold Invitational. The Greyhounds were the top NCAA Division III team in the race and the team defeated one Division II team in the race. Moravian also defeated two Middle Atlantic Conference schools. Sophomore Joe Grady paced the Greyhounds with a 21st place finish over the 8,000-meter course in 27:48. Freshman Patrick Grogan placed 26th in 27:57 while junior George Wacker was 42nd in 28:57. Moravian's other top finishers were junior Wes Zimmerman in 52nd at 29:11, freshman Matt Oertner in 54th at 29:15, sophomore Sean McDonnell in 55th with a time of 29:18 and junior Matt Plewinski at 64th in 29:54. Other runners for the Greyhounds included senior Chris DeWalt in 72nd at 30:13, junior Justin Arnold at82nd with a time of 30:38 and freshman Anthony Bisti in 106th at 33:59. There were a total of 112 runners in the meet.
