Under
the direction of second year head coach Amy Endler, the 2004 Moravian
College field hockey team posted a tied the school record for victories
in a season with a 10-5 overall record this fall. The Greyhounds were
2-5 in Commonwealth Conference action.
Junior forward Stacee Cupples (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central
Catholic HS) led the Greyhounds with 16 goals and 11 assists
for 43 points. She was named to the All-Commonwealth Conference Field
Hockey Second Team. Freshman forward Savannah Bayer (Newton, NJ/Newton
HS) was second on the team with nine goals and four assists for
22 points. Sophomore forward Elyse Jurgen (York, PA/Red Lion HS)
contributed six goals and one assist for 13 points total.
Senior forward Kelly Boone (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg HS) had
four goals and one assist for a total of nine points. Sophomore midfielder
Rachel Griffith (Easton, PA/Freedom HS) contributed one
goal and three assists for five points and freshman midfielder/defender
Jayme Baker (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) had
one goal and two assists for four points.
Sophomores forward Alyse Moyer (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg HS)
and midfielder Jenna Abramnson (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS)
each had one assist for one point total.
The key defensive players for the Hounds were junior Jill Brinckman
(East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen HS), sophomore Kim
Gialanella (Glenwood, NJ/Vernon Township HS), and freshman Taranae
Hashemi (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS). Brinckman
had eight defensive saves while Gialanella and Hashemi
each had one. Abramnson also helped out with one defensive
save.
Other key players for coach Endler were freshmen Erica
Spatz (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken HS), Kelly McGowan (Belmar,
NJ/St. Rose HS), Jacqui Grande (Washington, NJ/Warren
Hills Regional HS), Beverly Beaver (Merchantville, NJ/Pennsauken
HS) and Mauri Dallago (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown HS).
Senior Amy Kranchalk (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro
HS) and sophomores Jen Gassner (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan
HS), Brittny McKillip (Califon, NJ /Voorhees HS),
and Katie Custer (Pottstown, PA/St. Pius X HS) also helped
out the Hounds this season.
In goal for Moravian was sophomore goal keeper Amanda Gaun (Hatboro,
PA/Hatboro-Horsham HS). Gaun played all 1294:57
minutes this season and had a 2.59 goals against average, 146 saves, and
two shutouts.
Moravian had six student-athletes named to the 2004 Middle Atlantic
States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Fall Academic Honor Roll including
Abramson, Boone, Brinckman,
Custer, Jurgen, and Moyer.
