Under
the direction of second-year head coach Natalie Gozzard,
the Moravian field hockey team posted a 4-14 record finishing strong
winning 3 out of their last 7 games.
Sophomore Brittany Currie (Wantage, NJ/High Point Regional
HS) led the Greyhounds with 6 goals and 1 assist for a total
of 13 points. Freshman Stephanie Beitler (Fogelsville, PA/Northwestern
Lehigh HS) was second on the team with 4 goals and 2 assists
for 10 points. One of her goals was a game-winning goal against Alvernia.
Junior Pam Pike (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen HS),
a transfer from Elizabethtown College contributed 3 goals, including
two game-winning goals, and 3 assists for 9 points total. While her classmate, Rebecca
Kipp (Bethlehem, PA/Saucon Valley HS) had 3 goals and 1 assist
for a total of 7 points.
In her first season with the Greyhounds, freshman Stacee Cupples
(Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) had 2 goals
and 2 assists for 6 total points. One of her goals was a game-winner
against Haverford. Junior Rachel Crocker (Bethlehem, PA/Northampton
HS) contributed 1 goal and 1 assist for the Hounds. Junior Erika
Sands (Warminster, PA/William Tennent HS) added 1 goal and
1 assist in her second season with the Greyhounds, while sophomore Kelly
Boone (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg HS) had 1 goal. Freshman Jill
Brinckman (Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) added 1 assist
in her first season at Moravian.
Other key players for coach Gozzard were juniors Alicia Fowler
(Easton, PA/Easton HS) and Rachel Martz (Pottstown,
PA/Pottsgrove), sophomore Alana Speicher (Fleetwood,
PA/Brandywine Heights HS) and freshman Meredith Feller
(Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl HS).
Moravian used a trio of goalies with freshman Chelsea Marshall
(Hilton Head, SC/Episcopal Academy) seeing the majority of
the action. Marshall played 805 minutes and had a
4.00 goals against average, 135 saves and 1 shutout. Sophomore Amy
Kranchalk (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro HS) played
322 minutes with a 2.17 goals against average making 36 saves. While
freshman Lisa Oriolo (Parlin, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial HS) played
140 minutes in the goal cage with a 2.50 goals against average with
18 saves.
Coach Gozzard hopes to have a nucleus of 12 players return for
next season as the Greyhounds look to continue their improvement and
earn a berth in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs.
