Vs. Drew University – Lost 2-1 - Box Score

           The Drew University field hockey team overcame a quick one goal deficit to post a 2-1 victory over Moravian in Landmark Conference action at Betty Prince Field in the season finale for both schools.  The Greyhounds rededicated Betty Prince Field after the match for the 20th anniversary of the field.
            Moravian jumped out to a 1-0 lead in just the fourth minute when junior forward Jillian Pagliei put in a pass from junior forward Julie Bisci for Pagliei’s third goal of the season.
            The Rangers would answer with the game-tying goal five minutes later when freshman midfielder Meghan Howlett knocked in her fourth goal of the season on a pass from junior midfielder Nicole DiBattista.  Drew needed just five more minutes to take the lead in the 14th minute when junior forward Elizabeth Law scored her 12th goal of the year off of a DiBattista pass.
            Drew had a 12-8 advantage in shots and an 8-5 edge in penalty corners in the match.  Ranger junior goalie Stef Rutkowski made two saves in the first 35 minutes while freshman goalie Lauren Fasano has two saves in the second half of the match for Drew. Moravian sophomore keeper Maura Acox had six saves for the Greyhounds while junior defender Patty Eck added a defensive save for Moravian. DiBattista also had a defensive save for Drew.

Vs. Richard Stockton College of New Jersey – Won 4-2 - Box Score

            Junior forward Julie Bisci scored a pair of goals while junior midfielder Damara Varney and sophomore forward Becky Renaldo each added a goal and an assist to lead the Moravian College field hockey team from a 2-0 deficit with 23 minutes to play to a 4-2 non-conference victory over Richard Stockton College of New Jersey at Betty Prince Field. The match was Moravian's final non-conference contest of the season.
            The Ospreys scored first with junior defender Alexandra Speakman putting a loose ball in the back of the cage after a save on a penalty corner in the 32nd minute.  Speakman’s goal was her third of the season and gave Richard Stockton a 1-0 halftime lead as the Ospreys outshot the Greyhounds, 6-2 in the first 35 minutes of the match.
            Richard Stockon would take a 2-0 lead in the 47th minute when junior forward Gabrielle Palermo netted an unassisted goal, her fourth of the season, on a break by the Ospreys.
            Varney would get the Greyhounds on the board just 30 seconds later on her first goal of the season off of a pass from sophomore forward Vita Ranella.  Varney’s goal, which was into an almost empty net, was Moravian’s first shot of the second half.
            Bisci tied the contest in the 52nd minute when she tapped in a pass from junior forward Kayla Carson on a penalty corner started by Ranella.  Carson’s pass went across the front of the cage to an open Bisci on the left side of the goal.  Renaldo gave the Greyhounds their first lead of the match in the 64th minute from almost the same spot on the field as Bisci’s goal after taking a long lead pass from Varney that Carson had let pass to an open Renaldo.  The goal was the fourth of the year for Renaldo.
            Bisci would finish off the scoring with just 23 seconds to play on a penalty corner.  Renaldo tapped a short pass to Bisci on the left side of the circle.  Bisci lifted the ball high in the air and it dropped into the far right side over the head of Osprey freshman goalie Christine Harvey.  The goal was Bisci’s fifth of the season.
            Both teams attempted 11 shots in the match with Moravian taking all nine of its second half shots in the final 23:31 of the contest.  Moravian had a 10-6 advantage in penalty corners with eight of those penalty corners coming in the final 20:18.  Greyhound junior goalie Aliina Ross played the second half of the contest, making two saves in 35 minutes of action to earn her first collegiate win.  Moravian sophomore keeper Maura Acox made two saves in the first half for the Greyhounds.  Junior defender Stephanie Dellaquilla also had a defensive save for Moravian.
            Sophomore goalie Debi O’Kane played the first 51:18 for Richard Stockton, allowing two goals while Harvey had four saves in the remainder of the contest for the Ospreys.

Vs. Richard Stockton College of New Jersey – Postponed to October 31st

            Moravian's final home non-conference match of the 2008 season for Tuesday, October 28th versus Richard Stockton College of New Jersey has been postponed due to inclement weather and poor field conditions. The match has been rescheduled for Friday, October 31st at a time to be determined.

At The Catholic University of America – Lost 5-0 - Box Score

            Kendall Petschauer netted two goals to lead The Catholic University of America to a 5-0 Landmark Conference victory over Moravian College Saturday afternoon.
            Petschauer opened the scoring in the fifth minute when she scored on a penalty corner with an assist from Carley Walko.  Meredith Chandler scored off of a pass from Ro Dixon in the 11th minute while Tory Gagliardi netted an unassisted goal on a penalty corner in the 33rd minute as the Cardinals built a 3-0 halftime lead.
            Catholic would score twice more in the second half with Petschauer netting a penalty corner goal off of a Dixon pass in the 41st minute and Elizabeth Grumbein also scoring on a penalty corner assisted by Erin Thomas in the 44th minute.
            The Cardinals had a 20-1 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in penalty corners.  Catholic goalie Marian Cassilly stopped the only shot she faced.  Greyhound sophomore goalie Maura Acox had four saves in 43 minutes of action while junior Aliina Ross had four saves in the final 27 minutes of the contest.  Junior forward Julie Bisci recorded one defensive save for Moravian.

Vs. Immaculata University – Won 2-0 - Box Score

            Sophomore goalie Maura Acox made five of her six saves in the final ten minutes of the match to preserve a 2-0 shutout for Moravian in non-conference action with Immaculata University at Betty Prince Field.
            The Greyhounds would get all the offense they needed in the 25th minute sophomore forward Vita Ranella knocked in a crossing pass from sophomore forward Maureen Helfers for Ranella’s fifth goal of the season.  Moravian would score again in the 45th minute when junior forward Jillian Pagliei netted her second goal of the season off of a centering feed from junior forward Kayla Carson.
            Moravian had a 13-10 advantage in shots and a 16-10 edge in penalty corners.  The shutout was the second of the season for Acox.  Freshman goalie Brittany Worthington made five saves for Immaculata.

            Andrea Fiori netted a pair of goals to lead Susquehanna University to a 4-0 shutout of Moravian in Landmark Conference action at Sassafras Field.
            Fiori netted her first goal in the 31st minute off of a crossing pass from Maggie Kramer.  Jenelle Anthony extended the Crusader lead in the 44th minute when she scored off of a pass from Rebecca Entwistle on a penalty corner.  Fiori scored again in the 47th minute with a pass from Courtney Salsman on another penalty corner while Entwistle netted an unassisted goal in the 62nd minute to finish the scoring.
            Susquehanna had a 27-1 advantage in shots and a 13-1 edge in penalty corners.  Moravian sophomore goalie Maura Acox had 16 saves for the Greyhounds while junior forward Julie Bisci added a defensive save.  Crusader goalie Erin Ferguson made one save in the match.

Vs. Goucher College – Won 2-1 - Box Score

            Junior forward Kayla Carson netted a pair of goals including the game-winner in the 61st minute to lead Moravian to a 2-1 Landmark Conference victory over Goucher College at Betty Prince Field.
            Carson opened the scoring in the seventh minute when she netted her fourth goal of the season on a penalty corner after a pass from senior defender Laura Boyd.
            The Gophers tied the match in the 33rd minute on a goal by Ali Metzger that was assisted by Sara Spadanuta on a penalty corner.
            Carson’s winning goal was set up by junior forward Julie Bisci on a penalty corner.  Bisci also had a defensive save for the Greyhounds.
            Goucher had a 10-9 edge in shots while Moravian had an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners.  Moravian sophomore goalie Maura Acox had five saves while Chloe Dircks had three saves for the Gophers.

At The University of Scranton – Lost 1-0 - Box Score

            Julie Ozycz scored the only goal of the match in the 28th minute to lead The University of Scranton team to a 1-0 victory over Moravian in Landmark Conference action. 
            Ozycz’s goal, her fourth of the season, was a deflection of a ball served from outside the arc by Roxanne Kuzio.  Moravian had several chances in the match with junior forward Kayla Carson attempting five of Moravian 13 shots, including four that were just wide of the goal.
            The Greyhounds had a 13-9 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in penalty corners.  The match was the second time this season Moravian had an advantage in shots but lost by a goal.  Greyhound sophomore goalie Maura Acox had three saves in the match while Royal keeper Kristina Goetz made eight saves.

            Danielle Rosato and Sara Rutkowki each netted a goal and an assist to lead Washington (MD) College to a 3-0 non-conference victory over Moravian. The match was originally scheduled to be played in Bethlehem but was moved to Maryland when it was postponed due to weather back in September.
            The Shorewomen took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute when Amy Spadanuta knocked in a loose ball after a blocked shot to give Washington all of the offense it needed.
            Rosato scored off of an assist from Rutkowski in the 50th minute and the duo flipped position on a goal in the 66th minute with Rutkowski scoring on a long crossing pass from Rosato. 
            Washington had a 23-4 advantage in shots and a 14-4 edge in penalty corners in the match.  Elena Nicholoff had two saves in the shutout for the Shorewomen.  Sophomore goalie Maura Acox had eight saves for the Greyhounds. Moravian also had three defensive saves with senior defender Laura Boyd, junior defender Stephanie Dellaquilla and junior forward Julie Bisci each making a defensive save.

Vs. Philadelphia Biblical University – Won 5-1 - Box Score

            Sophomore forward Vita Ranella scored a pair of goals to lead Moravian to a 5-1 non-conference victory over Philadelphia Biblical University at Betty Prince Field.
            The victory was the second straight for the Greyhounds, the first time this season Moravian has won back-to-back contests.  The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third minute when senior defender Laura Boyd netted her first goal of the season, blasting a pass from senior forward Julia Garofalo on a penalty corner.  Moravian extended its lead to 2-0 in the 12th minute when junior forward Jillian Pagliei scored on a put back shot after a save on another Greyhound penalty corner.
            Moravian’s lead would go to 3-0 in the 29th minute when Ranella netted her first goal of the match, a blast from 12 feet away from the net.  The Crimson Eagles answered just 44 seconds later when sophomore defender Katie Sauder scored on a penalty corner for Philadelphia Biblical with an assist by junior forward Jamie Diehl.
            The Greyhounds scored once more before halftime with junior forward Kayla Carson netting her third goal of the season when she hit in a crossing pass from Garofalo in the 34th minute for a 4-1 halftime lead.
            Moravian would score the only point of the second half when Ranella tapped in a crossing pass from Pagliei in the 63rd minute for Ranella’s team leading fourth goal of the season.
            The Greyhounds had a 15-4 advantage in shots and a 14-2 edge in penalty corners.  Moravian sophomore goalie Maura Acox had two saves in 46 and a half minutes of action while junior keeper Aliina Ross did not face a shot in her 23 and a half minutes in the cage.  Crimson Eagle junior goalie Lauren Roth had seven saves in the contest.

            Sophomore goalie Marua Acox made one save for her first shutout of the season to lead Moravian to a 2-0 non-conference victory over Marywood University at Betty Prince Field.
            The Greyhounds, who snapped a two-match losing streak with the win, would five Acox all the offense she needed in the fourth minute.  Sophomore forward Becky Renaldo netted her third goal of the season on a penalty corner with an assist from senior forward Julia Garofalo off of an insert pass from junior forward Julie Bisci.  The duo would reverse positions on Moravian’s other goal with Garofalo scoring her first goal of the season off of a Renaldo pass in the eighth minute.
            Moravian had a 20-2 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in penalty corners.  Marywood freshman goalie Jennifer Miller had five stops for the Mustangs.

            Juniata College snapped a 1-1 tie early in the second half to earn a 3-1 victory over Moravian in the 2008 Landmark Conference season opener for both schools at Betty Prince Field.
            The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute when sophomore midfielder/forward Sam Smith netted her first goal of the season off of an assist from freshman midfielder/forward Kim Amrod.
            The Greyhounds would tie the match in the 45th minute when sophomore forward Maureen Helfers netted her first goal of the season off of a pass from senior forward Julia Garofalo.
            Juniata answered just 34 seconds later on a goal from freshman forward Molly Snyder, her second of the season, off of a pass from freshman forward Brittany Kauffman.  The Eagles added an insurance goal in the 68th minute when freshman defender Meghan McGlone netted her first goal of the season on a penalty corner.
            The Eagles had a 17-10 advantage in shots and a 9-8 edge in penalty corners with Eagle senior goalie Abby Funk making four saves.  Moravian sophomore keeper Maura Acox had six saves for the Greyhounds.

            Tara Cohn netted a hat trick to lead Muhlenberg College to a 5-0 non-conference win over Moravian at Scotty Wood Stadium.
            Cohn opened the scoring in the 16th minute when she blasted a shot off of a penalty corner taken by Kristen Sabia. Julie deLaurentis would give the Mules a 2-0 lead in the 21st minute when shot hit a pass from Cohn in the cage off of another penalty corner. Cohn netted her second goal in the 26th minute when she hit in a rebound off of a save by Moravian sophomore goalie Maura Acox. Sabia would make it 4-0 for Muhlenberg just 36 seconds after Cohn's tally with a reverse stick shot from in close. Cohn finished off her hat trick in the 37th minute, tipping in a shot by Shelby Smith on another penalty corner.
            Muhlenberg had an 18-2 advantage in shots and a 12-7 edge in penalty corners. Michelle Consiglio had one save for the Mules while Acox stopped four shots in 27 and a half minutes of action. Junior goalie Aliina Ross saw her first action of the season for the Greyhounds, making six saves in the final 48 and a half minutes of the contest.

At Gwynedd-Mercy College – Won 2-1 (double overtime) - Box Score

            Junior forward Kayla Carson scored with just 3:41 remaining in the second overtime to give Moravian a 2-1 double-overtime victory in a non-conference match at Gwynedd-Mercy College.
            The match was the fourth in six contests for the Greyhounds that has gone to overtime and the fifth decided by one goal this season.  It was also the second straight double overtime contest for Moravian.
            The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when sophomore forward Becky Renaldo netted her second goal of the season on a penalty corner with a pass from Carson.  The Griffins would tie the match in the 54th minute when Nicole Dowling scored off of an assist from Casey Dellostretto.
            Carson’s game-winning goal, her second goal of the season, came in the 97th minute off of a pass from junior forward Julie Bisci. 
            Gwynedd-Mercy had a 19-13 advantage in shots while Moravian had a 15-11 edge in penalty corners.  Greyhound sophomore goal Maura Acox had six saves in the victory while Ashley McGinty made eight saves for the Griffins.

Vs. Misericordia University – Lost 2-1 (double overtime) - Box Score

            Junior forward Ashlee Leonard scored with just 2:33 remaining in the second overtime to lift Misericordia University to a 2-1, double-overtime victory over Moravian in a non-conference match at Betty Prince Field.
            The Cougars had a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute when freshman forward Hayley Ellis netted her first collegiate goal off of a penalty corner taken by Leonard.
            Moravian, which has now played three overtime matches in five contests and has three of its four losses by one goal, would tie the score early in the second half on an unassisted goal by junior forward Julie Bisci that she lifted in from the right side of the circle for her third goal of the season.
            Leonard hit the game-winner, her fourth goal of the year, after the Greyhounds deflected a pass on the rebound of another Misericordia shot on a penalty corner.
            Statistically, the Greyhounds dominated the offensive play in the match, holding a 40-14 advantage in shots including a 16-4 edge in the overtime sessions and an 11-3 advantage in the second overtime.  Moravian also had an 18-9 edge in penalty corners.

            The 19th-ranked Elizabethtown College team shut out Moravian College, 3-0, in non-conference action in the Greyhounds’ 2008 home opener at Betty Prince Field.
            The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute on an unassisted goal by Andrea Miles.  Elizabethtown added a pair of second half goals with Tiffany Vogel scoring in the 47th minute and Ali Cavanaugh scoring in the 58th minute.
            The Blue Jays had a 24-2 advantage in shots and a 16-2 advantage in penalty corners.  Moravian sophomore goalie Maura Acox had 13 saves in the match while Liz Hannegan had one save for Elizabethtown.  Sophomore midfielder/defender Sarah Carman had a defensive save for the Greyhounds.

Vs. Washington (MD) College – Postponed to October 6th

           Moravian's 2008 home opener at Betty Prince Field, a non-conference contest with Washington (MD) College has been postponed due to rain and poor field conditions. The match has been rescheduled for Monday, October 6th and moved to Chestertown, Maryland with a 4:00 p.m. start.

At FDU-Florham – Won 2-1 (overtime) - Box Score

           Moravian earned its first win of the 2008 season behind a pair of goals from junior forward Julie Bisci, defeating FDU-Florham, 2-1 in overtime, in a non-conference match.
            The Devils jumped out to a 1-0 lead in just the second minute when Alex DeVito scored off of a pass from Alyssa Worbetz.  The match would remain that way until Bisci netted her first goal of the season, an unassisted tally in the 56th minute.  Bisci would then earn the Greyhounds the victory when she knocking in a pass from junior forward Kayla Carson in the 84 minute.
            FDU-Florham had a 17-6 advantage in shots and a 13-4 edge in penalty corners.  Greyhound sophomore goalie Maura Acox made 12 saves for her first win of the season while Jamie SanFilippo had four saves for the Devils.

            The Greyhounds suffered their second straight one-goal loss, falling to local rival DeSales University, 2-1, in non-conference action as the Bulldogs' Jamie Matthews scored on a rebound off of her own shot with just 15 seconds remaining in the match.
            Moravian, which saw a lead slip away in the final five minutes of the match for the second time this season, took a 1-0 lead in the the 19th minute when sophomore forward Vita Ranella netted her second goal of the season on a penalty corner. Junior midfielder Samantha Bell hit the corner pass to Ranella for the goal.
            The Bulldogs would not tie the match until the 66th minute when Alyssa Maltese scored off a pass from Catherine McGrillen. Matthews then netted the winning goal in the 70th minute.
            DeSales had a 15-9 advantage in shots including a 12-4 margin in the second half, while the Greyhounds held a 7-4 edge on penalty corners. Moravian sophomore goalie Maura Acox had six saves in the match while Bulldog goalie Jen Bessinger had two saves.

At Wilkes University – Lost 4-3 (3-1 on penalty strokes) - Box Score

            Moravian opened up the 2008 season with a 4-3 loss (3-1 on penalty strokes) at Wilkes University after the two teams were tied at 3-3 at the end of regulation and through two overtime periods.
            The Colonels jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third minute when Devon McKay scored off of a pass from Alyssa Koncelik. Moravian would tie the match in the 17th minute on the first goal of the season by sophomore forward Vita Ranella on a penalty corner set up by junior midfielder Damara Varney Sophomore forward Becky Renaldowould give the Greyhounds a 2-1 lead with a goal in the 33nd minute off of a pass from Ranella.
            Moravian would build its lead to 3-1 midway through the second half when junior forward Kayla Carson found the back of the cage in the 56th minute on a pass from junior forward Jillian Pagliei.
            The Colonels would respond with a pair of goals in the final 4:37 of regulation to force the extra sessions.  Jennifer Keegan scored off of a pass from Lindsey Raleigh in the 66th minute before Koncelik tied the match in the 68th minute. 
            After 30 minutes of scoreless play in the two overtime sessions, each team attempted four penalty strokes to determine the winner of the match.  For the Greyhounds, Ranella was the only player to score in the stroke-off while McKay, Britanny Sines and Alyson Paulauskas each scored for Wilkes to earn the win.  The Colonels had a 28-7 advantage in shots and a 12-7 edge in penalty corners in the match.
            Greyhound sophomore goalie Maura Acox recorded a career high 15 saves in the match while Lindsey Davenport had two saves for Wilkes.  The Colonels also had one team save.
