2008 Review

Under the direction of sixth year head coach Amy Endler, the 2008 Moravian College field hockey team posted a 7-11 record this fall.  The Greyhounds were 1-5 in the second year of the Landmark Conference and suffered a total of five one-goal losses during the season with two coming in overtime.

Leading the Greyhounds are junior forwards Kayla Carson (Leesport, PA/Wyomissing HS), pictured at right, and Julie Bisci (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg HS) who were both named to the 2008 Landmark All-Conference Field Hockey Second Team, each had five goals and four assists for a total of 14 points.  Sophomore forward Vita Ranella (Clarks Green, PA/Abington Heights HS) put five goals in the back of the cage to go along with two assists for a total of 12 points while sophomore forward Becky Renaldo (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) had four goals and two assists for a total of 10 points.

Junior forward Jillian Pagliei (Ivyland, PA/Council Rock North HS) contributed three goals and two assists for eight points while senior Julia Garofalo (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Township HS) had one goal and four assists for a total of six points.  Junior forward Damara Varney (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) had one goal and two assists for four points this season.  Sophomore forward Maureen Helfers (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke HS) and senior defender Laura Boyd (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS) each had one goal and one assist for three points.  Junior midfielder Samantha Bell (Sparta, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS) had one assist for one point this season.

Bisci, pictured at left, had four defensive saves to lead the Greyhounds this year.  Junior defender Stephanie Dellaquilla (Woodbury, NJ/West Deptford HS), who was also named to the 2008 Landmark All-Conference Field Hockey Second Team, contributed two defensive saves for Moravian.  Boyd, sophomore defender/midfielder Sarah Carman (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS) and junior defender Patty Eck (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua HS) each had one defensive save on the year. 

Time in goal was split between sophomore Maura Acox (Old Bridge, NJ/St. John Vianney HS) and sophomore Aliina Ross (Paoli, PA/Conestoga HS).  Acox played 1,229 minutes, had a 2.11 goals against average, 122 saves and two shutouts in her second season.  Ross played 127 minutes, had a 1.10 goals against average and 12 saves. 

Also contributing this season were senior midfielder/defender Lindsey Santacross (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony HS), junior forward Jillian Pagliei (Ivyland, PA/Council Rock North HS), sophomore defenders Alex Lopez (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan HS) and Lizzette Arias (Arlington, VA/Wakefield HS), and freshman forward Sarah Keenhold (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS).

Acox, Arias, Bell, Boyd, Eck, Garofalo, Lopez, Renaldo, Ross, Santacross, Schnable, and Varney were all named to the 2008 Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.
