The 2003-04 Moravian College golf team placed second of 14 schools at the 2004 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships. Moravian posted a team score of 775 in the tournament, which was shortened from 54 holes to 45 holes due to rain. The Greyhounds, under the direction of head coach John Makuvek for the 36th season, won three tournaments throughout the season and placed in the top five in 12 of 15 tournaments.
Freshman Brian Bergstol (Mt. Bethel, PA/Bangor HS) earned All-Conference First Team accolades with a second place finish with a 45-hole total of 186 on the par-72 course. Bergstol fired a 73 on the second day of the tournament. Bergstol finished his first-year for the Greyhounds with an average of 78.0 stokes per round with a season low score of 74, which captured first place individually at the Lehigh Valley Tournament at Saucon Valley Country Club and was tied for fourth at the Moravian Spring Invitational at Southmoore Golf Course.
Sophomore Dustin McCormick (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg HS) and senior Jamison Licausi (Tobyhanna, PA/Pocono Mountain HS) earned spots on the All-Conference Second Team by placing in the second ten. McCormick was 12th with a score of 194 while Licausi was 18th at 198. Both players had rounds of 81 on Sunday. McCormick averaged 78.9 strokes per round and had Moravian’s best round of the season, a 71 to win the Moravian Spring Invitational. Licausi averaged 80.5 strokes per round with a season low score of 76 at the Susquehanna University Fall Invitational played at Edgewood-in-the-Pines.
Senior Brian Kurylo (Sparta, NJ/Sparta HS) tied for 21st at the MAC Championships with a 45-hole total of 200 after a second day score of 80 while junior Todd Solecitto (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS) was tied for 35th with a two-day total of 207 after a 78 on the second day of competition. Kurylo sported an average of 82.7 with a low round of 73 at the Franklin & Marshall College Invitational at Bent Creek Country Club, taking medallist honors. Solecitto had an average of 81.1 strokes per round with a 73 at the Susquehanna Fall Invitational.
Freshman Matt Tomasic (Berlin, NJ/St. Augustine Prep HS) averaged 82.5 shots per round in his debut season with a low round of 70 at the Elizabethtown College Spring Blue Jay Classic at the Hershey Country Club. Classmate Thad Miller (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS) had an average of 83.3 strokes per round with a low of 80 twice, once at the Moravian Spring Invitational and again at the Lebanon Valley College Spring Invitational at the Lebanon Country Club. Sophomore John Donofrio (Easton, PA/Easton HS) shot 85.8 per round with a low score of 77 at the Moravian Spring Invitational while sophomore Scott Severino (Milford, NJ/Delaware Valley Regional HS) had an average of 87.0 over two rounds in his first year with the Greyhounds.
Coach Makuvek returns seven players next year that will try to win Moravian its first MAC title since 1997.
