2005 Review

The 2005 Moravian College men’s lacrosse team doubled its win total in just its second year as a varsity program with an overall mark of 6-11 this past season. The Greyhounds, under the direction of head coach Fran Meagher, also won its first-ever Middle Atlantic Conference match, posting a 3-7 conference slate. Moravian, which closed the season with wins in three of its final five matches, just missed a postseason berth after a pair of one-goal losses in conference action.

Sophomore attack Clint Quedenfeld (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West HS) led Moravian in scoring with 88 points on 18 goals and 70 assists. Quedenfeld was ranked second in the nation in assists per game and fifth in points per contest. Sophomore attack Daniel Larson (Dover, DE/Dover HS) led Moravian with 38 goals, and he contributed 18 assists for 56 points while sophomore midfielder Ken Blom (Rochelle Park, NJ/Bergen Catholic HS) had 17 goals and ten assists for 27 points. Blom also won 83 face-offs this season to go with 70 ground balls and five man-up goals while Larson scooped up 26 ground balls and has three game-winning goals.

Sophomore attack Nick Cacciutti (Media, PA/The Haverford School) also netted 38 goals, and he added three assists for 41 points. Cacciutti scored eight man-up goals and a man-down goal, and he had eight ground balls for the Greyhounds while Quedenfeld had 40 ground balls and a pair of man-up goals.

Freshman attack Scott Jackson (Greenwood, DE/Sussex Tech HS) had 25 goals and three assists for 28 points, and he contributed 23 face-off wins and 31 ground balls in his debut season. Sophomore midfielder T.J. Hirsch (Lake Peekskill, NY/Walter Panas HS) added 13 goals and an assist for 14 points this spring, and Hirsch won 81 of 149 face-offs this year to go with 79 ground balls.

Freshman midfielder Aaron Satterfield (Mt. Arlington, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS) netted six goals and two assists while freshman midfielder Shane Doucette (Merrick, NY/Calhoun HS) found the back of the cage seven times this year with one assist for the Greyhounds. Sophomore midfielder Tristan Flis (Harleysville, PA/North Penn HS) added four goals while junior midfielder Peter Coldwell (Bound Brook, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan HS) scored two goals. Satterfield grabbed 48 ground balls for Moravian while Doucette had 22 ground balls and freshman defender David Poppe (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury HS) had 33 ground balls.

Junior defender Greg Hawzen (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough HS) contributed 34 ground balls while freshman defender Brandon Keiper (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS) scooped up 40 ground balls and sophomore defender Tim Guider (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River HS) has 26 ground balls. Hawzen and Keiper each had one assist this spring.

Freshman defender Adam Melroy (Newton, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS) added 23 ground balls while junior defender Rocco DiPoalo (Keyport, NJ/Academy of Marine Science) had 18 ground balls for the Greyhounds. Sophomore midfielder A.J. Herold (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough HS) had six ground balls this past season while freshman Hakim Myers (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South HS) saw action in seven matches.

Freshman goalie Peter Coutros (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West HS) posted a 6-11 record in the cage for the Greyhounds with a 12.76 goals-against average, 208 saves and 36 ground balls in 945 minutes of action. Freshman keeper Peter Schenenman (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle HS) made eight saves and had a 9.33 goals-against average in 77 minutes of action.

Coach Meagher should return his whole team for the 2006 season when the Greyhounds look to challenge for one of the six berths in the MAC Tournament and the chance to earn the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championships.
